successor_n in_o the_o whole_a apostolical_a office_n so_o far_o as_o it_o be_v ordinary_a and_o to_o have_v successor_n that_o therefore_o the_o bishop_n office_n may_v in_o regard_n of_o that_o succession_n be_v say_v to_o be_v apostolical_a that_o yet_o it_o do_v not_o follow_v that_o they_o must_v needs_o be_v call_v apostle_n take_v the_o denomination_n from_o the_o office_n in_o as_o much_o as_o the_o denomination_n of_o the_o apostle_n peculiar_o so_o call_v be_v not_o give_v they_o from_o the_o office_n whereunto_o they_o be_v send_v but_o as_o the_o word_n itself_o rather_o import_v from_o the_o immediateness_n of_o their_o mission_n be_v send_v immediate_o by_o christ_n himself_o in_o respect_n whereof_o for_o distinction_n sake_n and_o in_o honour_n to_o their_o person_n it_o be_v think_v fit_a by_o those_o that_o succeed_v in_o common_a usage_n to_o abstain_v from_o that_o denomination_n and_o to_o be_v style_v rather_o by_o the_o name_n of_o bishop_n that_o if_o the_o apostle_n have_v no_o successor_n the_o presbyter_n who_o be_v their_o successor_n in_o part_n immediate_o and_o subordinate_o to_o the_o bishop_n will_v be_v very_o hard_o set_v to_o prove_v the_o warrant_n of_o their_o own_o office_n and_o mission_n which_o if_o not_o derive_v from_o the_o apostle_n who_o only_o receive_v power_n of_o mission_n from_o christ_n by_o a_o continue_a line_n of_o succession_n his_o majesty_n see_v not_o upon_o what_o other_o bottom_n it_o can_v stand_v x._o reply_n 19-23_a as_o to_o the_o stand_a officer_n of_o the_o church_n you_o insist_v upon_o two_o place_n of_o scripture_n phil._n 1._o 1._o and_o 1_o tim._n 3._o to_o prove_v that_o there_o be_v to_o be_v no_o more_o stand_v officer_n in_o the_o church_n than_o the_o two_o in_o those_o place_n mention_v viz._n presbyter_n who_o be_v there_o call_v bishop_n and_o deacon_n whereunto_o his_o majesty_n answer_n be_v that_o there_o may_v be_v other_o though_o not_o mention_v in_o those_o of_o the_o gospel_n they_o assume_v other_o in_o partem_fw-la curae_fw-la commit_v to_o their_o charge_n the_o peculiar_a oversight_n of_o the_o church_n in_o some_o principal_a city_n and_o the_o town_n and_o village_n adjacent_a as_o james_n at_o jerusalem_n and_o other_o in_o other_o place_n soon_o or_o late_a as_o they_o see_v it_o expedient_a for_o the_o service_n of_o the_o church_n that_o the_o person_n so_o by_o they_o appoint_v to_o such_o peculiar_a charge_n do_v exercise_v the_o power_n of_o ordination_n and_o other_o government_n under_o the_o apostle_n and_o be_v therefore_o in_o the_o church_n story_n call_v bishop_n of_o those_o place_n in_o a_o distinct_a sense_n that_o in_o some_o place_n where_o the_o apostle_n be_v themselves_o more_o frequent_o conversant_a they_o do_v for_o some_o while_o govern_v the_o church_n immediate_o by_o themselves_o before_o they_o set_v bishop_n there_o and_o that_o after_o the_o apostle_n time_n bishop_n only_o be_v the_o ordinary_a governor_n of_o the_o church_n of_o christ_n and_o his_o majesty_n believe_v it_o can_v be_v prove_v either_o from_o clear_a evidence_n of_o scripture_n or_o credible_a testimony_n of_o antiquity_n that_o ever_o any_o presbyter_n or_o presbytery_n exercise_v the_o power_n either_o of_o ordination_n at_o all_o without_o a_o bishop_n or_o of_o that_o which_o they_o but_o to_o manifest_v the_o inconsequence_n of_o the_o argument_n whereby_o you_o will_v conclude_v but_o two_o stand_a officer_n only_o because_o but_o two_o there_o name_v give_v this_o as_o one_o probable_a conjecture_n why_o there_o may_v be_v no_o bishop_n in_o distinct_a sense_n there_o mention_v because_o possible_o the_o apostle_n have_v not_o as_o yet_o set_v any_o bishop_n over_o that_o church_n which_o his_o majesty_n do_v not_o propose_v as_o the_o only_a no_o nor_o yet_o as_o the_o most_o probable_a conjecture_n for_o which_o cause_n
