which_o a_o christian_a shall_v be_v exceed_o glad_a rejoice_v say_v our_o saviour_n and_o be_v exceed_o glad_a joy_n be_v nothing_o but_o the_o satisfaction_n of_o the_o soul_n in_o the_o union_n that_o it_o have_v with_o some_o good_a thing_n that_o be_v present_a so_o as_o it_o must_v necessary_o signify_v these_o thing_n negative_o 1._o a_o satisfaction_n of_o mind_n in_o opposition_n to_o grief_n and_o trouble_v and_o affliction_n grief_n be_v the_o true_a opposite_a to_o joy_n when_o we_o be_v bid_v to_o rejoice_v we_o be_v bid_v not_o to_o grieve_v for_o no_o man_n can_v rejoice_v and_o grieve_v hearty_o in_o a_o breath_n persecution_n be_v not_o a_o thing_n fit_a for_o a_o christian_n tear_n indeed_o there_o be_v nothing_o fit_a for_o a_o christian_n tear_n but_o only_a sin_n and_o so_o far_o there_o may_v be_v matter_n of_o grief_n for_o we_o under_o a_o persecution_n if_o it_o have_v be_v bring_v upon_o we_o by_o our_o sin_n or_o by_o our_o indiscretion_n but_o take_v it_o as_o it_o be_v a_o suffering_n for_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n it_o be_v not_o he_o slur_v the_o crown_n of_o martyrdom_n that_o drop_v a_o tear_n or_o spend_v a_o sigh_n upon_o it_o let_v man_n howl_v and_o weep_v that_o be_v send_v to_o gaol_n and_o bring_v to_o the_o gallow_n for_o the_o satisfaction_n of_o their_o lust_n but_o let_v they_o take_v heed_n of_o grieve_v that_o be_v only_o send_v to_o prison_n or_o bring_v to_o a_o stake_n for_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n 2._o a_o satisfaction_n of_o mind_n in_o opposition_n to_o discontent_n murmur_a or_o repine_v for_o not_o only_a grief_n which_o be_v direct_o opposite_a to_o our_o joy_n will_v spoil_v our_o mirth_n but_o even_o a_o discontent_n and_o dissatisfaction_n will_v spoil_v our_o joy_n for_o joy_n require_v the_o satisfaction_n of_o the_o mind_n so_o as_o it_o must_v be_v at_o rest_n and_o not_o toss_v up_o and_o down_o with_o the_o wave_n of_o many_o fear_n and_o care_n christian_n shall_v not_o be_v discontent_v at_o god_n dispensation_n they_o shall_v not_o grudge_v nor_o murmur_n nor_o repine_v at_o god_n if_o he_o shall_v please_v to_o bring_v they_o under_o such_o a_o dispensation_n as_o to_o suffer_v for_o his_o name_n sake_n 3._o it_o impli_v a_o satisfaction_n of_o mind_n in_o opposition_n to_o solicitude_n as_o he_o who_o heart_n be_v full_a of_o grief_n or_o who_o heart_n be_v full_a of_o discontent_n can_v rejoice_v so_o he_o who_o heart_n be_v full_a of_o carefulness_n can_v rejoice_v neither_o this_o be_v that_o which_o our_o divine_n have_v observe_v that_o it_o answer_v a_o hebrew_n word_n which_o signify_v dance_v joyful_o and_o be_v use_v of_o david_n 1_o chron._n 15.29_o dance_v before_o the_o ark_n and_o this_o agree_v with_o james_n 1.2_o count_v it_o all_o joy_n when_o you_o fall_v into_o divers_a temptation_n where_o temptation_n signify_v persecution_n thus_o the_o apostle_n act_v 5.41_o they_o depart_v from_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o council_n rejoice_v that_o they_o be_v count_v worthy_a to_o suffer_v shame_n for_o his_o name_n it_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o christian_n not_o only_o not_o to_o grieve_v and_o be_v trouble_v not_o only_o not_o to_o be_v discontent_v and_o to_o murmur_v and_o repine_v not_o only_o to_o be_v free_a from_o solicitude_n and_o trouble_n of_o spirit_n because_o of_o persecution_n but_o on_o the_o contrary_a to_o rejoice_v and_o to_o be_v glad_a yea_o and_o that_o with_o the_o great_a excess_n of_o joy_n to_o leap_v for_o joy_n obj._n but_o will_v some_o christian_n say_v how_o shall_v a_o christian_a do_v this_o can_v a_o man_n rejoice_v in_o evil_n be_v it_o not_o contrary_a to_o the_o very_a nature_n of_o man_n to_o rejoice_v in_o a_o evil_a be_v it_o not_o contrary_a to_o whatsoever_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o a_o christian_a to_o rejoice_v in_o the_o afflict_a hand_n of_o god_n upon_o he_o how_o then_o shall_v a_o man_n be_v glad_a and_o rejoice_v in_o persecution_n and_o either_o answer_v the_o law_n of_o nature_n or_o the_o will_n and_o pleasure_n of_o god_n not_o take_v notice_n of_o his_o dispensation_n sol._n i_o answer_v first_o
