lest_o if_o he_o shall_v proceed_v in_o not_o favour_v his_o weak_a stomach_n and_o his_o body_n labour_v under_o often_o infirmity_n immediate_o the_o tabernacle_n of_o his_o body_n shall_v fall_v in_o civil_a policy_n he_o forbid_v servant_n to_o despise_v their_o master_n upon_o that_o account_n because_o they_o be_v equal_a in_o christ_n and_o he_o command_v that_o they_o serve_v they_o so_o much_o the_o more_o ready_o because_o their_o master_n be_v faithful_a and_o belove_v of_o god_n and_o for_o this_o cause_n so_o much_o the_o more_o worthy_a to_o receive_v the_o fruit_n of_o their_o of_o their_o teach_v other_o thing_n or_o otherwise_o than_o the_o apostle_n not_o rest_v satisfy_v in_o the_o simplicity_n of_o christian_a piety_n from_o who_o carriage_n and_o manner_n the_o meritorious_a cause_n of_o the_o chastisement_n he_o give_v six_o reason_n and_o consent_v not_o reas._n 1_o they_o be_v obstinate_a who_o submit_v not_o themselves_o to_o the_o wholesome_a word_n of_o christ_n or_o to_o sound_a doctrine_n which_o in_o the_o maâ—â—er_n and_o manner_n of_o teach_v be_v after_o godliness_n vers._n 4._o he_o be_v proud_a know_v nothing_o but_o dote_v about_o foolish_a question_n and_o strife_n of_o word_n whereof_o reas._o 4._o because_o by_o these_o cavillation_n they_o stir_v up_o envy_n contention_n rail_v evil_a surmizing_n vers._n 5._o perverse_a dispute_n of_o man_n of_o corrupt_a mind_n and_o destitute_a of_o the_o truth_n suppose_v that_o gain_n be_v godliness_n from_o such_o withdraw_v thyself_o reas._n 5._o because_o by_o their_o perverse_a dispute_n they_o discover_v themselves_o to_o be_v of_o a_o perverse_a and_o corrupt_a mind_n destitute_a of_o the_o truth_n and_o more_o studious_a of_o gain_n than_o godliness_n yea_o to_o be_v such_o who_o make_v a_o gain_n of_o godliness_n whereupon_o he_o infer_v the_o censure_n of_o withdraw_a from_o they_o which_o be_v the_o consequence_n of_o excommunication_n vers._n 6._o christian_a religion_n and_o become_v most_o miserable_a vers._n 11._o but_o thou_o o_o man_n of_o god_n flee_v these_o thing_n and_o follow_v after_o righteousness_n godliness_n faith_n love_n patience_n meekness_n reas._n 7._o with_o a_o special_a application_n because_o this_o vice_n be_v unworthy_a a_o minister_n who_o be_v a_o man_n of_o god_n and_o separate_v to_o the_o heavenly_a righteousness_n or_o faithfulness_n faithful_o perform_v the_o free_a promise_n make_v to_o our_o father_n and_o be_v derive_v to_o we_o together_o with_o all_o other_o benefit_n through_o the_o righteousness_n of_o jesus_n christ_n our_o lord_n vers._n 2._o grace_n and_o peace_n be_v multiply_v unto_o you_o through_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n and_o of_o jesus_n our_o lord_n the_o three_o thing_n in_o the_o inscription_n of_o the_o epistle_n be_v a_o salutation_n wherein_o be_v his_o prayer_n and_o confirmation_n of_o it_o in_o his_o prayer_n he_o wish_v to_o all_o the_o faithful_a hebrew_n a_o full_a manifestation_n multiplication_n and_o increase_v of_o all_o save_a gift_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o multiplication_n of_o peace_n or_o of_o all_o benefit_n which_o conduce_v to_o the_o promote_a and_o perfect_v of_o their_o present_a and_o future_a felicity_n and_o that_o by_o the_o increase_n of_o save_a faith_n or_o acknowledgement_n of_o god_n and_o christ_n as_o they_o be_v reveal_v in_o the_o gospel_n vers._n 3._o according_a as_o his_o divine_a power_n have_v give_v unto_o we_o all_o thing_n that_o pertain_v unto_o life_n and_o godliness_n through_o the_o knowledge_n of_o he_o that_o have_v call_v we_o to_o glory_n and_o virtue_n he_o confirm_v the_o hope_n of_o his_o desire_n viz._n that_o god_n will_v multiply_v grace_n and_o peace_n towards_o they_o by_o faith_n in_o five_o argument_n divine_a power_n argum._n 1._o the_o power_n or_o effectual_a grace_n work_v powerful_o have_v bestow_v upon_o you_o all_o expedient_n which_o belong_v to_o holiness_n or_o grace_n to_o life_n or_o peace_n by_o the_o knowledge_n or_o faith_n of_o he_o both_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o right_n to_o as_o also_o the_o admission_n of_o you_o into_o the_o profession_n therefore_o god_n will_v increase_v and_o multiply_v those_o gift_n until_o you_o obtain_v perfection_n of_o life_n and_o holiness_n for_o there_o be_v the_o like_a reason_n for_o the_o beginning_n and_o progress_n as_o touch_v the_o favour_n of_o god_n have_v call_v argum._n 2._o god_n have_v call_v you_o to_o virtue_n or_o grace_n and_o to_o glory_n or_o peace_n therefore_o he_o will_v perfect_v those_o thing_n in_o you_o to_o which_o he_o have_v call_v you_o vers._n 4._o whereby_o be_v give_v unto_o we_o exceed_v great_a and_o precious_a promise_n that_o by_o these_o you_o may_v be_v partaker_n of_o the_o divine_a nature_n have_v escape_v the_o corruption_n that_o be_v in_o the_o world_n through_o lust_n argum._n 3._o confirm_v the_o former_a god_n have_v give_v you_o the_o promise_n of_o the_o gospel_n which_o as_o they_o be_v very_o great_a because_o of_o the_o great_a thing_n viz._n of_o righteousness_n and_o eternal_a life_n so_o also_o they_o be_v precious_a and_o main_o necessary_a to_o you_o for_o the_o obtain_n of_o life_n therefore_o he_o will_v perform_v those_o promise_n by_o multiply_v even_o unto_o perfection_n those_o thing_n which_o he_o have_v promise_v that_o by_o these_o argum._n 4._o for_o this_o end_n he_o have_v give_v both_o the_o promise_n and_o beginning_n of_o these_o thing_n promise_v to_o you_o that_o you_o may_v be_v partaker_n of_o the_o divine_a nature_n not_o as_o to_o the_o essence_n but_o as_o to_o the_o virtue_n and_o perfection_n which_o represent_v the_o nature_n of_o god_n in_o heavenly_a wisdom_n holiness_n and_o happiness_n as_o in_o a_o lively_a image_n therefore_o he_o will_v multiply_v to_o you_o grace_n and_o peace_n that_o he_o may_v attain_v his_o end_n in_o perfect_v of_o you_o have_v escape_v argum._n 5._o now_o you_o have_v escape_v from_o the_o kingdom_n of_o death_n and_o the_o covenant_n of_o sin_n be_v free_v from_o destruction_n wherein_o the_o world_n lie_v through_o lust_n or_o concupiscence_n therefore_o the_o same_o gracious_a good_a pleasure_n of_o god_n 〈◊〉_d multiply_v to_o you_o grace_n which_o be_v oppose_v to_o sin_n and_o peace_n which_o be_v oppose_v to_o destruction_n vers._n 5._o and_o beside_o this_o give_v all_o diligence_n add_v to_o your_o faith_n virtue_n and_o to_o virtue_n knowledge_n after_o the_o preface_n he_o exhort_v they_o to_o a_o serious_a endeavour_n of_o grow_v in_o faith_n and_o godliness_n reckon_v up_o by_o degree_n the_o chief_a christian_a virtue_n whereof_o the_o first_o be_v faith_n which_o open_v unto_o we_o the_o first_o entrance_n to_o god_n to_o this_o be_v adjoin_v virtue_n or_o follow_v after_o righteousness_n in_o general_n because_o without_o faith_n it_o be_v dead_a and_o ineffectual_a prudence_n or_o knowledge_n follow_v which_o consist_v in_o a_o full_a knowledge_n of_o heavenly_a mystery_n and_o the_o application_n of_o they_o to_o practice_n vers._n 6._o and_o to_o knowledge_n temperance_n and_o to_o temperance_n patience_n and_o to_o patience_n godliness_n after_o this_o he_o require_v temperance_n whereby_o every_o one_o keep_v himself_o from_o those_o enticement_n whereby_o he_o may_v be_v take_v off_o from_o his_o duty_n he_o will_v have_v patience_n or_o fortitude_n which_o consist_v in_o bear_v adversity_n and_o not_o in_o cease_v from_o our_o duty_n for_o the_o evil_n which_o pursue_v we_o annex_v to_o temperance_n and_o these_o virtue_n be_v four_o which_o be_v common_o call_v cardinal_n to_o these_o he_o will_v have_v three_o other_o join_v 1._o godliness_n which_o chief_o consist_v in_o the_o very_a worship_n of_o god_n vers._n 7._o and_o to_o godliness_n brotherly_a kindness_n and_o to_o brotherly_a kindness_n charity_n the_o other_o virtue_n which_o he_o will_v have_v add_v be_v 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d brotherly_n love_v whereby_o we_o embrace_v our_o brethren_n or_o the_o household_n of_o faith_n the_o last_o virtue_n be_v charity_n or_o common_a love_n which_o be_v to_o be_v extend_v to_o all_o man_n even_o to_o enemy_n vers._n 8._o for_o if_o these_o thing_n be_v in_o you_o and_o abound_v they_o make_v you_o that_o you_o shall_v neither_o be_v barren_a nor_o unfruitful_a in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n
