they_o be_v bind_v to_o the_o determination_n therein_o express_v both_o for_o the_o chief_a time_n necessary_a and_o sufficient_a for_o continuance_n and_o frequency_n which_o be_v one_o whole_a day_n in_o seven_o according_a to_o the_o four_o commandment_n and_o for_o the_o particular_a day_n which_o be_v the_o first_o day_n of_o the_o week_n the_o lord_n day_n according_a to_o the_o new_a testament_n we_o proceed_v to_o another_o argument_n and_o come_v more_o presse_o to_o oppose_v the_o church_n authority_n in_o this_o determination_n premise_v xxiv_o a_o caution_n premise_v and_o if_o herein_o we_o shall_v seem_v by_o some_o argument_n to_o shake_v the_o authority_n the_o church_n be_v esteem_v to_o have_v in_o other_o thing_n or_o to_o favour_v the_o authority_n which_o be_v challenge_v by_o some_o to_o belong_v to_o particular_a church_n or_o congregation_n we_o desire_v not_o to_o be_v mistake_v for_o as_o we_o shall_v argue_v nothing_o upon_o this_o occasion_n but_o as_o we_o have_v already_o argue_v that_o it_o rather_o belong_v to_o every_o man_n and_o woman_n single_a for_o themselves_o then_o to_o any_o number_n of_o man_n for_o all_o the_o rest_n therefore_o again_o we_o profess_v that_o in_o those_o matter_n wherein_o the_o church_n have_v authority_n the_o authority_n be_v in_o the_o church-governor_n not_o in_o the_o whole_a body_n and_o great_a authority_n in_o superior_a government_n as_o in_o synod_n provincial_n and_o nationall_n together_o with_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o christian_a magistrate_n most_o of_o all_o in_o general_n counsel_n or_o such_o a_o council_n as_o be_v of_o many_o christian_a nation_n together_o call_v by_o the_o consent_n of_o christian_a prince_n and_o state_n 2._o that_o we_o be_v persuade_v the_o wherein_o god_n have_v not_o determine_v this_o way_n or_o that_o way_n precise_o and_o so_o be_v matter_n of_o small_a concernment_n which_o may_v admit_v of_o variation_n in_o divers_a church_n at_o and_o careless_o they_o have_v hitherto_o handle_v this_o point_n about_o the_o determination_n of_o this_o necessary-sufficient-chiefe_a time_n for_o religion_n by_o the_o church_n authority_n as_o if_o they_o have_v have_v to_o do_v with_o man_n that_o will_v take_v their_o dictate_v for_o oracle_n and_o never_o require_v satisfaction_n in_o most_o important_a difficulty_n which_o attend_v their_o position_n and_o conclusion_n our_o next_o argument_n be_v this_o religion_n xxv_o arg._n 2._o the_o church_n can_v make_v time_n necessary_a to_o religion_n if_o the_o church_n have_v its_o determination_n be_v not_o necessary_a for_o if_o it_o be_v necessary_a before_o than_o the_o church_n do_v not_o make_v the_o determination_n or_o exercise_v a_o legislative_a authority_n but_o make_v a_o time_n necessary_a which_o be_v not_o before_o necessary_a by_o virtue_n of_o its_o determination_n than_o it_o can_v make_v any_o time_n it_o shall_v determine_v necessary_a by_o virtue_n of_o its_o determination_n for_o a_o quatenus_fw-la ad_fw-la omus_fw-la valet_fw-la consequentia_fw-la the_o authority_n 62._o to_o the_o purpose_n of_o this_o antecedent_n see_v hereafter_o a_o that_o they_o shall_v think_v good_a to_o determine_v shall_v be_v necessary_a to_o religion_n which_o all_o man_n will_v confess_v to_o be_v absurd_a therefore_o it_o remain_v that_o the_o
church_n can_v make_v a_o time_n necessary_a to_o religion_n by_o virtue_n of_o its_o determination_n which_o be_v not_o necessary_a before_o 2._o to_o make_v a_o thing_n necessary_a to_o religion_n chief_a time_n in_o all_o the_o forenote_v regard_n therefore_o if_o the_o church_n have_v authority_n to_o determine_v this_o chief_a time_n to_o make_v this_o determination_n it_o have_v authority_n to_o make_v that_o time_n sufficient_a by_o virtue_n of_o its_o determination_n which_o before_o be_v not_o sufficient_a for_o if_o it_o be_v sufficient_a before_o than_o the_o church_n do_v not_o proper_o make_v the_o determination_n but_o only_o declare_v it_o it_o do_v not_o exercise_v any_o legislative_a act_n but_o only_o prudentiall_a and_o ministerial_a it_o only_o preach_v to_o its_o member_n what_o time_n god_n in_o nature_n or_o scripture_n have_v make_v sufficient_a not_o determine_v any_o thing_n decisive_o by_o virtue_n of_o any_o authority_n give_v it_o in_o the_o case_n the_o antecedent_n be_v also_o again_o divers_a way_n confirm_v 1._o because_o if_o the_o church_n can_v make_v a_o time_n sufficient_a unto_o religion_n by_o virtue_n of_o its_o authority_n or_o determination_n which_o before_o be_v not_o sufficient_a than_o it_o can_v make_v any_o time_n that_o it_o shall_v determine_v sufficient_a by_o virtue_n of_o the_o same_o authority_n and_o determination_n for_o again_o a_o quatenus_fw-la ad_fw-la omne_fw-la valet_fw-la consequentia_fw-la the_o authority_n and_o so_o the_o virtue_n of_o it_o be_v the_o same_o in_o one_o determination_n as_o in_o another_o and_o then_o one_o hour_n in_o a_o week_n or_o two_o hour_n in_o a_o month_n or_o in_o a_o year_n or_o any_o other_o proportion_n or_o number_n will_v be_v sufficient_a unto_o religion_n if_o the_o church_n shall_v so_o determine_v it_o but_o this_o also_o can_v be_v deny_v to_o be_v most_o absurd_a therefore_o it_o remain_v that_o the_o church_n can_v make_v a_o time_n sufficient_a unto_o religion_n by_o virtue_n of_o its_o authority_n and_o determination_n which_o be_v not_o sufficient_a before_o 2._o to_o make_v a_o time_n sufficient_a to_o god_n honour_n in_o his_o acceptation_n be_v his_o own_o royal_a prerogative_n according_a to_o his_o own_o expression_n of_o his_o approbation_n but_o this_o he_o have_v not_o communicate_v to_o the_o church_n in_o any_o thing_n whatsoever_o 71._o of_o god_n blessing_n require_v to_o make_v the_o time_n sufficient_a see_v afterward_o a_o distinct_a proof_n sect._n 71._o for_o the_o main_a and_o chief_a part_n of_o it_o and_o therefore_o not_o in_o this_o matter_n have_v he_o give_v the_o church_n authority_n have_v no_o where_n confine_v his_o approbation_n to_o the_o church_n determination_n 3._o to_o make_v a_o thing_n sufficient_a to_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n in_o god_n blessing_n be_v also_o a_o peculiar_a of_o his_o almighty_a grace_n and_o he_o have_v not_o give_v the_o church_n power_n to_o convey_v in_o any_o other_o thing_n his_o heavenly_a grace_n at_o their_o pleasure_n and_o therefore_o not_o in_o this_o matter_n of_o time_n 4._o the_o church_n authority_n as_o we_o say_v before_o be_v general_o acknowledge_v not_o to_o reach_v beyond_o thing_n indifferent_a but_o to_o make_v a_o time_n sufficient_a for_o religion_n which_o before_o be_v not_o sufficient_a exceed_v the_o limit_n of_o thing_n indifferent_a ergo_fw-la the_o church_n have_v no_o such_o authority_n 5._o to_o make_v a_o thing_n sufficient_a to_o satisfy_v sober_a conscience_n in_o reference_n to_o a_o just_a ground_n of_o persuasion_n of_o god_n acceptation_n and_o blessing_n there_o can_v be_v no_o less_o than_o a_o impossibility_n of_o error_n in_o the_o determine_v the_o proportion_n and_o the_o distribution_n of_o it_o between_o the_o continuance_n and_o frequency_n but_o this_o god_n have_v no_o where_o promise_v to_o the_o church_n in_o any_o matter_n that_o be_v to_o no_o number_n of_o man_n outward_o profess_v themselves_o to_o be_v the_o church_n except_o only_o to_o the_o apostle_n neither_o do_v our_o adversary_n in_o this_o point_n so_o much_o as_o pretend_v a_o impossibility_n of_o the_o church_n err_v as_o appear_v even_o by_o their_o argue_v that_o the_o church_n may_v alter_v the_o determination_n after_o it_o be_v make_v therefore_o we_o say_v again_o and_o conclude_v that_o the_o church_n determination_n or_o authority_n can_v make_v a_o time_n which_o before_o be_v not_o sufficient_a to_o be_v sufficient_a to_o satisfy_v any_o sober_a conscience_n and_o so_o no_o way_n sufficient_a for_o religion_n answer_v xxvii_o a_o exception_n answer_v we_o be_v not_o ignorant_a that_o to_o both_o these_o forego_n argument_n about_o the_o necessity_n and_o sufficiency_n of_o this_o chief_a time_n there_o may_v be_v some_o kind_n of_o answer_n make_v out_o of_o the_o adversary_n book_n namely_o that_o they_o argue_v not_o that_o the_o church_n have_v authority_n to_o must_v not_o be_v less_o than_o one_o in_o seven_o only_o they_o still_o keep_v aloof_o off_o in_o the_o point_n of_o continuance_n which_o yet_o as_o have_v be_v oft_o note_v and_o have_v need_n to_o be_v oft_o repeat_v and_o remember_v be_v the_o main_a subject_n of_o all_o the_o dispute_n and_o quarrel_n between_o they_o and_o we_o in_o this_o they_o dare_v not_o yet_o at_o least_o have_v not_o but_o that_o nature_n and_o reason_n or_o scripture_n some_o or_o all_o of_o these_o do_v beforehand_o determine_v the_o necessity_n and_o sufficiency_n of_o it_o and_o that_o the_o church_n office_n herein_o be_v no_o more_o but_o of_o a_o crier_n or_o preacher_n as_o our_o divine_n urge_v against_o the_o papist_n in_o point_n of_o the_o church_n authority_n to_o determine_v what_o book_n be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n to_o declare_v and_o pronounce_v and_o then_o consequent_o to_o use_v her_o authority_n over_o her_o member_n to_o urge_v they_o to_o the_o observation_n of_o it_o as_o much_o as_o may_v be_v and_o not_o at_o all_o of_o a_o lawgiver_n to_o determine_v it_o and_o thus_o much_o we_o very_o believe_v these_o argument_n have_v evince_v undeniable_o which_o therefore_o we_o again_o desire_v our_o reader_n to_o observe_v that_o so_o the_o church_n absolute_a and_o unlimited_a authority_n may_v be_v no_o more_o urge_v in_o this_o controversy_n no_o not_o in_o general_n manifold_a continual_a necessity_n faint_n decay_n and_o temptation_n so_o that_o whatever_o our_o adversary_n dispute_v against_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n we_o conceive_v they_o dispute_v mean_n of_o blessing_n to_o the_o right_a user_n of_o it_o according_a to_o god_n command_n and_o observe_v that_o because_o god_n see_v that_o the_o encouragement_n of_o a_o blessing_n be_v great_o
