afterwards_o when_o he_o be_v to_o go_v up_o to_o jerusalem_n 20.23_o he_o go_v bind_v in_o the_o spirit_n as_o himself_o tell_v we_o put_v on_o by_o a_o secret_a inspiration_n thus_o god_n have_v make_v his_o will_n know_v to_o some_o of_o his_o people_n heretofore_o and_o i_o will_v not_o deny_v but_o he_o may_v do_v the_o like_a at_o this_o day_n but_o this_o we_o have_v no_o warrant_n to_o expect_v or_o look_v for_o second_o to_o that_o which_o we_o be_v to_o have_v a_o eye_n unto_o for_o the_o regulate_n of_o our_o flight_n or_o stay_n be_v the_o will_n of_o god_n make_v know_v to_o we_o in_o a_o more_o ordinary_a way_n viz._n by_o his_o word_n or_o work_n these_o two_o way_n god_n do_v ordinary_o make_v know_v his_o will_n unto_o the_o son_n of_o man_n touch_v whatever_o he_o will_v have_v they_o do_v or_o not_o to_o do_v by_o his_o word_n give_v they_o at_o least_o some_o general_a rule_n and_o direction_n by_o his_o work_n his_o work_n of_o providence_n second_v the_o word_n and_o give_v they_o at_o least_o the_o hint_n of_o more_o particular_a direction_n and_o thus_o do_v he_o make_v his_o will_n know_v unto_o his_o people_n in_o this_o particular_a case_n the_o case_n of_o fly_v or_o stay_v viz._n by_o his_o word_n and_o work_n 12.14_o these_o two_o as_o some_o expositor_n carry_v it_o be_v the_o two_o wing_n which_o be_v say_v to_o be_v give_v to_o the_o may_v conduce_v most_o to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o good_a of_o other_o these_o be_v two_o of_o the_o main_a end_n which_o every_o christian_n shall_v live_v too_o his_o own_o salvation_n be_v the_o three_o and_o these_o two_o he_o must_v have_v a_o eye_n unto_o as_o in_o all_o other_o his_o action_n so_o in_o this_o god_n first_o in_o the_o first_o place_n he_o must_v have_v a_o eye_n to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n which_o shall_v be_v to_o the_o christian_a as_o the_o polestar_n to_o the_o mariner_n now_o here_o sometime_o it_o may_v so_o fall_v out_o that_o a_o christian_n may_v glorify_v god_n more_o by_o his_o fly_v then_o by_o his_o stand_n in_o this_o case_n god_n bid_v he_o flee_v sometime_o on_o the_o other_o hand_n he_o may_v glorify_v god_n more_o by_o his_o stand_v then_o by_o his_o fly_n in_o this_o case_n god_n bid_v he_o stand_v and_o according_o a_o christian_n be_v to_o order_v himself_o this_o q._n but_o who_o shall_v be_v the_o judge_n of_o this_o a._o why_o that_o must_v every_o man_n own_o conscience_n non_fw-la externus_fw-la judex_fw-la conscience_n sed_fw-la domesticus_fw-la as_o p._n martyr_n resolve_v it_o not_o any_o foreign_a judge_n at_o least_o not_o primary_o and_o principal_o true_a it_o be_v we_o may_v and_o aught_o to_o consult_v with_o other_o about_o it_o because_o we_o be_v prone_a to_o be_v partial_a in_o our_o own_o cause_n but_o the_o judge_n that_o must_v give_v sentence_n in_o this_o case_n must_v be_v the_o judge_n in_o a_o man_n own_o bosom_n every_o man_n own_o conscience_n this_o be_v that_o which_o every_o christian_a in_o the_o case_n of_o fly_v ought_v first_o to_o consult_v with_o ask_v conscience_n what_o it_o be_v that_o induce_v he_o to_o flee_v and_o press_v it_o to_o give_v a_o true_a answer_n viz._n whether_o it_o be_v the_o glory_n of_o god_n or_o his_o own_o safety_n his_o own_o peace_n and_o tranquillity_n whether_o god_n or_o himself_o that_o he_o look_v at_o perhaps_o here_o conscience_n will_v answer_v both_o i_o accept_v the_o answer_n yield_v it_o that_o where_o both_o may_v stand_v together_o a_o christian_a both_o may_v and_o aught_o to_o have_v a_o eye_n to_o both_o god_n glory_n and_o his_o own_o good_a even_o his_o outward_a peace_n and_o tranquillity_n inquire_v but_o here_o to_o press_v conscience_n a_o little_a further_o let_v it_o be_v inquire_v ourselves_o first_o which_o of_o these_o be_v the_o main_a spring_n the_o first_o principle_n that_o which_o first_o set_v a_o man_n a_o go_v be_v it_o god_n or_o himself_o god_n glory_n

or_o his_o own_o safety_n this_o question_n my_o brethren_n put_v home_o upon_o conscience_n it_o may_v happy_o come_v near_o we_o we_o be_v all_o natural_o near_a unto_o ourselves_o and_o ofttimes_o too_o near_o so_o it_o be_v when_o we_o set_v up_o ourselves_o our_o own_o peace_n our_o own_o outward_a tranquillity_n as_o the_o first_o and_o main_a thing_n which_o we_o look_v at_o in_o the_o be_v not_o some_o diminution_n to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n whether_o we_o may_v not_o glorify_v god_n more_o by_o our_o stand_v then_o by_o our_o fly_n here_o press_v conscience_n to_o give_v sente●ce_n according_a to_o evidence_n and_o according_a th●reunto_o order_n we_o ourselves_o for_o our_o fly_a or_o stand_v do_v that_o which_o may_v conduce_v most_o to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n second_o good_a and_o second_o that_o which_o may_v conduce_v most_o to_o the_o good_a of_o other_o special_o the_o public_a good_a we_o be_v not_o bear_v neither_o shall_v we_o live_v mere_o for_o ourselves_o all_o of_o we_o for_o other_o all_o of_o we_o for_o the_o public_a as_o member_n do_v for_o the_o good_a of_o the_o body_n so_o shall_v christian_n live_v for_o the_o good_a of_o the_o community_n the_o good_a of_o the_o church_n and_o this_o we_o must_v have_v a_o eye_n unto_o as_o in_o our_o whole_a course_n so_o in_o this_o case_n of_o fly_v or_o stand_v in_o time_n of_o persecution_n now_o here_o sometime_o it_o so_o fall_v out_o that_o christian_n can_v fly_v without_o both_o public_a scandal_n and_o danger_n the_o case_n special_o of_o public_a person_n magistrate_n and_o minister_n their_o flight_n ofttimes_o endanger_v the_o community_n as_o the_o flight_n of_o the_o shepherd_n do_v the_o flock_n or_o as_o the_o flight_n of_o the_o mariner_n in_o paul_n voyage_n will_v have_v do_v the_o passenger_n touch_v who_o paul_n tell_v the_o centurion_n and_o soldier_n except_o these_o abide_v in_o the_o ship_n 27.31_o you_o can_v be_v save_v now_o in_o this_o case_n they_o be_v thus_o engage_v god_n bid_v they_o stand_v and_o therefore_o they_o may_v not_o flee_v upon_o this_o ground_n that_o worthy_a governor_n nehemiah_n take_v up_o that_o seduction_n there_o god_n bid_v he_o stand_v on_o the_o other_o hand_n sometime_o as_o private_a so_o public_a person_n may_v withdraw_v themselves_o without_o any_o detriment_n to_o the_o church_n nay_o their_o flee_n may_v be_v a_o advantage_n to_o it_o thereby_o they_o may_v have_v the_o opportunity_n off_o do_v moregood_a to_o the_o church_n then_o otherwise_o they_o can_v do_v in_o this_o case_n god_n bid_v they_o flee_v and_o they_o have_v their_o master_n go_v before_o they_o in_o it_o our_o bless_a saviour_n as_o i_o tell_v you_o be_v in_o danger_n by_o his_o adversary_n he_o often_o withdraw_v himself_o this_o he_o do_v for_o the_o great_a advantage_n and_o benefit_n of_o his_o church_n that_o he_o may_v have_v opportunity_n for_o the_o finish_n of_o the_o work_n which_o his_o father_n have_v give_v he_o to_o do_v what_o himself_o therein_o do_v he_o order_v his_o apostle_n and_o disciple_n to_o do_v the_o like_a when_o they_o persecute_v you_o in_o ox_n city_n flee_v into_o another_o and_o wherefore_o must_v they_o fly_v why_o that_o so_o by_o that_o mean_n they_o may_v have_v opportunity_n to_o do_v the_o work_n which_o their_o lord_n and_o master_n have_v give_v herein_o take_v this_o rule_n of_o the_o word_n along_o with_o we_o we_o must_v have_v recourse_n to_o the_o work_n of_o god_n i_o mean_v his_o providential_a work_n the_o passage_n of_o his_o two-●old_v viz._n inward_a or_o outward_a his_o work_n within_o we_o and_o his_o work_n without_o we_o first_o his_o inward_a work_n his_o work_n upon_o the_o inwardman_n heart_n upon_o our_o heart_n and_o spirit_n in_o the_o order_n and_o temper_v of_o they_o this_o we_o find_v god_n do_v various_o even_o as_o the_o smith_n deal_v with_o his_o iron_n which_o sometime_o he_o harden_v sometime_o he_o softness_n harden_v thus_o deal_v god_n with_o the_o spirit_n of_o his_o own_o people_n sometime_o he_o harden_v they_o take_v it_o in_o a_o good_a sense_n fleel_v they_o as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o heroical_a resolution_n put_v into_o their_o heart_n a_o spirit_n of_o courage_n and_o fortitude_n so_o strengthen_v they_o with_o all_o might_n according_a to_o his_o glorious_a power_n unto_o all_o patience_n and_o long_a suffering_n with_o joyfulness_n 1.11_o as_o paul_n pray_v for_o his_o coloss●ans_n as_o that_o they_o dare_v look_v whatever_o danger_n or_o enemy_n in_o the_o face_n thus_o be_v it_o with_o elias_n when_o he_o take_v up_o that_o resolution_n that_o whatever_o come_v he_o will_v look_v his_o arch-enemy_n ahab_n in_o the_o face_n notwithstanding_o that_o ahab_n
