of_o moral_a duty_n and_o that_o all_o institute_v religion_n that_o do_v not_o promote_v and_o further_o these_o or_o be_v destitute_a of_o they_o be_v abominable_a to_o god_n and_o under_o the_o gospel_n our_o saviour_n prefer_v a_o moral_a duty_n before_o any_o gift_n we_o can_v offer_v to_o god_n and_o will_v have_v it_o to_o take_v place_n mat._n 5._o 23_o 24._o if_o thou_o bring_v thy_o gift_n unto_o the_o altar_n and_o there_o remember_v that_o thy_o brother_n have_v aught_o against_o thou_o leave_v there_o thy_o gift_n before_o the_o altar_n and_o go_v thy_o way_n first_o be_v divine_a right_n and_o the_o doctrine_n of_o transubstantiation_n as_o plain_a as_o the_o institution_n of_o the_o sacrament_n yet_o these_o be_v but_o positive_a matter_n in_o religion_n there_o will_v be_v no_o reason_n to_o kill_v man_n for_o not_o understand_v and_o believe_v these_o thing_n nay_o it_o will_v be_v contrary_a to_o religion_n to_o do_v it_o because_o the_o law_n of_o mercy_n and_o humanity_n which_o be_v the_o law_n of_o nature_n ought_v not_o to_o be_v violate_v for_o the_o promote_a of_o any_o positive_a institution_n and_o god_n have_v plain_o say_v that_o he_o will_v have_v mercy_n rather_o than_o sacrifice_n yea_o rather_o than_o the_o sacrifice_n of_o the_o mass_n if_o it_o be_v what_o they_o pretend_v it_o be_v the_o offering_z of_o the_o natural_a body_n and_o blooâ—_n of_o christ_n because_o it_o will_v be_v needless_a for_o propitiation_n of_o sin_n be_v once_o make_v by_o christ_n offering_n himself_o once_o for_o all_o upon_o the_o cross_n there_o peace_n in_o the_o christian_a church_n there_o will_v be_v no_o church_n nor_o no_o christianity_n which_o will_v be_v the_o same_o wise_a contrivance_n as_o if_o a_o prince_n shall_v destroy_v his_o subject_n to_o keep_v his_o kingdom_n quiet_a four_o let_v we_o likewise_o consider_v that_o if_o this_o reason_n be_v good_a it_o be_v much_o strong_a for_o withhold_v the_o scripture_n from_o the_o and_o with_o advantage_n be_v much_o more_o to_o be_v fear_v from_o the_o learned_a than_o from_o the_o common_a people_n and_o the_o experience_n of_o all_o age_n have_v show_v that_o the_o great_a broacher_n and_o abettor_n of_o heresy_n in_o the_o christian_a church_n have_v be_v man_n of_o learning_n and_o wit_n and_o most_o of_o the_o famous_a heresy_n that_o be_v record_v in_o ecclesiastical_a history_n have_v their_o name_n from_o some_o learned_a man_n or_o other_o so_o that_o it_o be_v a_o great_a mistake_n to_o think_v that_o the_o way_n to_o prevent_v error_n and_o heresy_n in_o the_o church_n be_v to_o take_v the_o bible_n out_o of_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o people_n so_o long_o as_o the_o free_a use_n of_o it_o be_v permit_v to_o man_n of_o learning_n and_o skill_n in_o who_o hand_n the_o danger_n of_o pervert_v it_o be_v much_o great_a the_o ancient_a father_n i_o be_o sure_a do_v frequent_o prescribe_v to_o the_o people_n the_o constant_a and_o careful_a read_n of_o the_o holy_a scripture_n as_o the_o sure_a antidote_n against_o the_o poison_n of_o dangerous_a error_n and_o damnable_a heresy_n and_o if_o there_o be_v so_o much_o danger_n of_o seduction_n into_o error_n from_o the_o oracle_n of_o truth_n by_o what_o other_o or_o better_a mean_n can_v we_o hope_v to_o be_v secure_v against_o this_o danger_n if_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v so_o cross_a and_o improper_a a_o mean_n to_o this_o end_n one_o will_v think_v that_o the_o teach_n of_o man_n shall_v be_v much_o less_o effectual_a so_o that_o man_n must_v either_o be_v leave_v in_o their_o ignorance_n or_o they_o must_v be_v permit_v to_o learn_v from_o the_o word_n of_o truth_n and_o whatever_o force_n this_o reason_n of_o the_o danger_n of_o heresy_n have_v in_o it_o to_o deprive_v the_o common_a people_n of_o the_o use_n of_o the_o scripture_n i_o be_o sure_a it_o be_v much_o strong_a to_o wrest_v they_o out_o of_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o priest_n and_o the_o learned_a because_o they_o be_v much_o more_o capable_a of_o pervert_v they_o to_o so_o bad_a a_o purpose_n five_o and_o last_o this_o danger_n be_v as_o great_a and_o visible_a in_o the_o age_n of_o the_o apostle_n as_o it_o be_v now_o and_o yet_o they_o take_v a_o quite_o contrary_a course_n there_o be_v heresy_n then_o as_o well_o as_o now_o and_o either_o the_o scripture_n be_v not_o think_v by_o be_v in_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o people_n to_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o they_o or_o they_o do_v not_o think_v the_o take_n of_o they_o out_o of_o their_o hand_n a_o proper_a remedy_n reason_n which_o those_o who_o tempt_v other_o may_v have_v in_o tempt_v they_o and_o all_o temptation_n be_v for_o one_o of_o these_o three_o end_n or_o reason_n either_o for_o the_o trial_n and_o improvement_n of_o man_n virtue_n or_o by_o way_n of_o judgement_n and_o punishment_n for_o some_o former_a great_a sin_n and_o provocation_n or_o with_o a_o direct_a purpose_n and_o design_n to_o seduce_v man_n to_o sin_n these_o i_o think_v be_v the_o chief_a end_n and_o reason_n that_o can_v be_v imagine_v of_o exercise_v man_n with_o dangerous_a temptation_n first_o for_o the_o exercise_n and_o improvement_n of_o man_n grace_n and_o virtue_n and_o this_o be_v the_o end_n which_o god_n always_o aim_v at_o in_o bring_v good_a man_n or_o permit_v they_o to_o be_v bring_v into_o dangerous_a temptation_n and_o therefore_o st._n james_n speak_v of_o it_o as_o a_o matter_n of_o joy_n when_o good_a man_n be_v exercise_v with_o affliction_n not_o because_o affliction_n be_v temptation_n to_o their_o strength_n order_v thing_n so_o by_o his_o secret_a and_o wise_a providence_n that_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v assault_v by_o any_o temptation_n which_o be_v beyond_o their_o strength_n to_o resist_v and_o overcome_v and_o herein_o the_o security_n of_o good_a man_n do_v ordinary_o consist_v and_o the_o very_o best_a of_o we_o those_o who_o have_v the_o firm_a and_o most_o
