not_o that_o to_o hinder_v they_o from_o join_v in_o it_o our_o business_n shall_v not_o be_v to_o move_v question_n and_o dispute_n about_o the_o preparedness_n of_o other_o but_o to_o be_v careful_a due_o to_o prepare_v ourselves_o and_o when_o once_o we_o be_v sit_o qualify_v for_o it_o we_o ought_v to_o come_v whether_o they_o be_v so_o or_o no._n their_o unworthiness_n will_v have_v all_o fit_a and_o unfit_a of_o holy_a and_o unholy_a person_n it_o be_v compare_v to_o a_o net_n wherein_o fish_n of_o all_o sort_n be_v catch_v both_o good_a and_o bad_a mat_n 13.47_o 48_o to_o a_o field_n where_o both_o wheat_n and_o tare_n spring_v up_o and_o wherein_o both_o must_v grow_v together_o till_o the_o harvest_n v_o 24_o 25_o 30._o all_o christian_n be_v not_o such_o as_o their_o saviour_n christ_n be_v and_o such_o as_o their_o religion_n require_v they_o shall_v be_v and_o therefore_o if_o we_o refuse_v to_o share_v in_o any_o holy_a thing_n whilst_o some_o unworthy_a person_n there_o be_v some_o vicious_a as_o well_o as_o godly_a person_n if_o we_o decline_v all_o society_n and_o fellowship_n which_o have_v ill_a man_n to_o partake_v in_o it_o we_o must_v not_o stop_v in_o avoid_v the_o communion_n and_o leap_v out_o of_o the_o christian_a church_n and_o profession_n but_o if_o we_o run_v on_o so_o far_o as_o this_o principle_n will_v lead_v we_o become_v outlaw_n to_o family_n township_n kingdom_n yea_o to_o all_o mankind_n 3._o one_o shall_v not_o bear_v another_o but_o every_o man_n his_o own_o burden_n so_o that_o if_o not_o we_o but_o only_o they_o be_v unworthy_a we_o be_v safe_a and_o may_v free_o câ—me_v and_o they_o alone_o be_v debar_v from_o receive_v god_n will_v not_o punish_v one_o soul_n for_o another_o fault_n or_o be_v angry_a at_o this_o out_o of_o compassion_n for_o their_o soul_n and_o concern_v for_o the_o honour_n of_o this_o ordinance_n may_v see_v cause_n to_o remove_v they_o from_o it_o but_o if_o neither_o the_o danger_n of_o the_o thing_n nor_o any_o affectionate_a and_o fair_a warn_v nor_o the_o enfeeble_a hand_n of_o discipline_n when_o it_o be_v become_v impotent_a and_o of_o small_a account_n through_o the_o number_n of_o offender_n who_o be_v too_o strong_a for_o it_o or_o through_o the_o multitude_n of_o schism_n and_o division_n one_o party_n entertain_v what_o another_o exclude_v which_o cut_v off_o all_o the_o force_n of_o it_o if_o notwithstanding_o all_o these_o i_o say_v unworthy_a man_n will_v still_o press_v in_o and_o presume_v to_o communicate_v yet_o be_v their_o unworthiness_n only_o to_o themselves_o but_o as_o for_o other_o who_o be_v true_o worthy_a they_o have_v no_o hurt_n at_o all_o by_o it_o they_o shall_v not_o suffer_v for_o their_o brethren_n sin_n nor_o be_v incapacitate_v by_o their_o unfitness_n so_o that_o whilst_o they_o have_v no_o unworthiness_n in_o their_o own_o soul_n they_o may_v approach_v the_o holy_a table_n and_o cheerful_o receive_v still_o but_o yet_o further_o 3._o if_o any_o shall_v be_v real_o scandalize_v at_o the_o presence_n of_o those_o who_o be_v notorious_o wicked_a or_o who_o have_v do_v any_o wrong_n to_o their_o neighbour_n either_o in_o word_n or_o deed_n upon_o complaint_n make_v in_o the_o congregation_n they_o be_v to_o be_v suspend_v from_o the_o holy_a table_n and_o deny_v the_o sacrament_n for_o this_o care_n our_o church_n have_v take_v in_o this_o case_n to_o prevent_v all_o those_o who_o wickedness_n give_v public_a scandal_n and_o offence_n from_o share_v in_o these_o holy_a mystery_n if_o any_o communicant_a say_v the_o rubric_n before_o the_o communion-service_n be_v a_o open_a and_o notorious_a evil_a liver_n or_o have_v do_v any_o wrong_n to_o his_o neighbour_n by_o word_n or_o deed_n so_o that_o the_o congregation_n be_v thereby_o offend_v the_o curate_n have_v knowledge_n thereof_o shall_v call_v he_o and_o advertise_v he_o that_o in_o any_o wise_a he_o presume_v not_o to_o come_v to_o the_o lord_n table_n until_o he_o have_v open_o declare_v himself_o to_o have_v true_o repent_v and_o amend_v his_o former_a naughty_a life_n that_o the_o congregation_n may_v thereby_o be_v satisfy_v which_o before_o be_v offend_v and_o that_o he_o have_v recompense_v the_o party_n to_o who_o he_o have_v do_v wrong_a or_o at_o least_o declare_v himself_o to_o be_v in_o full_a purpose_n so_o to_o do_v as_o soon_o as_o convenient_o he_o may_v as_o for_o those_o than_o who_o be_v keep_v back_o from_o this_o feast_n because_o they_o see_v some_o unworthy_a person_n be_v admit_v to_o it_o my_o answer_n to_o they_o in_o brief_a be_v this_o that_o they_o ought_v not_o to_o be_v forward_o in_o judge_v any_o other_o unworthy_a because_o it_o be_v hard_a for_o they_o to_o know_v it_o and_o they_o be_v liable_a to_o be_v mistake_v in_o it_o and_o that_o when_o they_o have_v great_a and_o plain_a cause_n to_o conclude_v other_o unworthy_a yet_o ought_v not_o that_o in_o any_o wise_a to_o hinder_v they_o who_o be_v true_o worthy_a from_o come_v to_o it_o for_o if_o the_o company_n of_o unworthy_a receiver_n be_v a_o just_a hindrance_n it_o will_v have_v hinder_v our_o bless_a lord_n and_o the_o primitive_a christian_n since_o it_o lay_v in_o their_o way_n as_o well_o as_o now_o it_o do_v in_o we_o it_o will_v not_o rest_v in_o withhold_a we_o from_o the_o communion_n but_o serve_v equal_o to_o put_v we_o by_o from_o be_v member_n of_o the_o church_n or_o profess_v the_o christian_a religion_n but_o it_o be_v plain_o of_o no_o force_n for_o either_o of_o they_o since_o one_o man_n shall_v not_o bear_v another_o but_o every_o one_o his_o own_o burden_n but_o if_o still_o any_o be_v real_o scandalize_v by_o the_o company_n of_o such_o as_o be_v notorious_o wicked_a that_o offenâ—e_n may_v be_v remove_v when_o they_o have_v a_o mind_n to_o it_o for_o upon_o complaint_n make_v those_o unworthy_a person_n be_v to_o be_v suspend_v from_o the_o holy_a table_n and_o deny_v the_o sacrament_n a_o eleven_o hindrance_n whereby_o several_a person_n be_v keep_v back_o from_o join_v in_o this_o feast_n be_v the_o gesture_n which_o be_v require_v to_o it_o for_o though_o right-glad_o they_o will_v be_v admit_v to_o the_o sacrament_n yet_o they_o dare_v not_o kneel_v as_o the_o church_n appoint_v all_o man_n to_o do_v when_o they_o receive_v it_o now_o when_o any_o person_n refuse_v the_o holy_a sacrament_n upon_o this_o account_n they_o have_v no_o sufficient_a plea_n or_o just_a excuse_n from_o it_o when_o our_o lord_n shall_v ask_v they_o at_o the_o last_o day_n why_o they_o do_v not_o communicate_v according_a to_o his_o appointment_n it_o will_v be_v but_o a_o bad_a answer_n in_o they_o to_o say_v it_o be_v because_o they_o can_v not_o sit_v or_o use_v some_o other_o posture_n which_o they_o think_v convenient_a for_o since_o he_o have_v only_o require_v the_o thing_n but_o have_v no_o where_o enjoin_v the_o gesture_n we_o be_v to_o receive_v in_o he_o will_v have_v just_a reason_n to_o reply_v to_o such_o man_n that_o then_o it_o seem_v they_o will_v not_o do_v what_o he_o bid_v they_o unless_o at_o the_o same_o time_n they_o can_v do_v that_o also_o which_o he_o have_v not_o bid_v nor_o perform_v his_o will_n unless_o withal_o they_o shall_v be_v allow_v to_o have_v their_o own_o which_o just_o merit_v a_o severe_a reproof_n but_o be_v far_o from_o be_v a_o matter_n of_o commendation_n but_o that_o they_o may_v not_o inexcusable_o neglect_v so_o great_a a_o commandment_n upon_o so_o weak_a a_o reason_n for_o it_o i_o will_v offer_v to_o their_o consideration_n these_o three_o thing_n 1._o kneel_v be_v no_o unsuitable_a posture_n in_o receive_v the_o holy_a sacrament_n so_o that_o if_o we_o be_v leave_v at_o liberty_n we_o may_v have_v enough_o to_o justify_v ourselves_o in_o make_v use_n of_o it_o 2._o it_o be_v appoint_v by_o our_o governor_n who_o god_n command_v we_o to_o obey_v in_o all_o lawful_a thing_n so_o that_o every_o good_a man_n who_o be_v under_o authority_n aught_o to_o observe_v it_o but_o if_o it_o be_v not_o our_o duty_n when_o authority_n have_v thus_o require_v the_o use_n of_o it_o and_o it_o have_v no_o reason_n from_o itself_o to_o recommend_v it_o but_o it_o be_v much_o better_a that_o some_o other_o posture_n shall_v be_v use_v yet_o 3._o since_o it_o lawful_o may_v be_v use_v too_o though_o not_o so_o well_o as_o another_o if_o man_n have_v any_o due_a value_n for_o and_o desire_v of_o the_o sacrament_n for_o its_o sake_n and_o rather_o than_o miss_v of_o it_o they_o shall_v at_o least_o comply_v with_o it_o 1._o kneel_v be_v no_o unsuitable_a posture_n in_o receive_v the_o holy_a sacrament_n so_o that_o if_o we_o be_v leave_v at_o liberty_n we_o may_v have_v enough_o to_o justify_v ourselves_o in_o make_v use_n of_o it_o for_o the_o sacrament_n as_o i_o have_v already_o show_v be_v a_o religious_a feast_n wherein_o we_o be_v christian_a worship_n for_o than_o not_o only_o they_o who_o virtue_n be_v most_o high_a and_o perfect_a but_o all_o the_o faithful_a be_v call_v upon_o to_o communicate_v and_o they_o who_o be_v judge_v fit_a to_o meet_v at_o the_o prayer_n and_o other_o service_n be_v think_v worthy_a to_o meet_v at_o the_o lord_n table_n too_o and_o since_o they_o fit_v they_o for_o it_o in_o those_o day_n it_o can_v be_v think_v but_o that_o they_o must_v needs_o fit_v we_o in_o we_o also_o as_o for_o those_o than_o who_o have_v be_v wont_a to_o think_v more_o hardly_o of_o the_o sacrament_n than_o of_o other_o part_n of_o worship_n and_o how_o frequent_a soever_o they_o be_v in_o they_o to_o come_v but_o seldom_o unto_o it_o by_o reason_n of_o the_o apprehend_a difficulty_n in_o a_o worthy_a partake_n of_o it_o if_o they_o due_o consider_v these_o three_o thing_n they_o will_v see_v cause_n to_o change_v their_o mind_n and_o forbear_v to_o complain_v any_o more_o against_o it_o for_o the_o virtue_n that_o be_v require_v of_o we_o in_o a_o worthy_a communion_n be_v all_o necessary_a part_n of_o duty_n and_o of_o a_o good_a man_n and_o be_v as_o much_o require_v to_o a_o worthy_a prayer_n vow_n thanksgiving_n and_o every_o other_o act_n of_o religion_n and_o be_v not_o necessary_o require_v in_o more_o intense_a and_o transport_v degree_n in_o it_o than_o in_o other_o instance_n of_o devotion_n so_o that_o no_o good_a man_n have_v any_o cause_n at_o all_o to_o repine_v at_o it_o or_o abstain_v from_o it_o it_o lie_v hard_o upon_o and_o can_v be_v blame_v by_o none_o but_o those_o who_o for_o the_o same_o reason_n must_v blame_v every_o other_o ordinance_n and_o part_n of_o divine_a service_n which_o require_v as_o much_o of_o a_o worthy_a worshipper_n as_o this_o and_o who_o at_o the_o same_o rate_n as_o they_o cast_v off_o it_o must_v renounce_v their_o christianity_n and_o throw_v aside_o all_o religion_n too_o and_o thus_o have_v note_v some_o thing_n that_o may_v help_v to_o reconcile_v all_o good_a mind_n to_o this_o bless_a sacrament_n and_o silence_v the_o complaint_n of_o hardship_n in_o a_o worthy_a receive_n it_o i_o shall_v proceed_v now_o 2_o lie_n to_o show_v plain_o who_o be_v unworthy_a of_o it_o and_o what_o they_o must_v do_v to_o fit_v and_o prepare_v themselves_o for_o it_o and_o so_o conclude_v this_o point_n now_o these_o in_o one_o word_n be_v all_o that_o be_v impenitent_a that_o have_v commit_v any_o damn_v fault_n and_o be_v not_o full_o set_v and_o purpose_v to_o amend_v it_o for_o all_o the_o virtue_n of_o worthy_a receive_v as_o we_o have_v see_v be_v necessary_a part_n of_o duty_n and_o of_o a_o good_a man_n so_o that_o if_o any_o person_n will_v repent_v of_o all_o his_o breach_n of_o they_o and_o take_v care_n thenceforward_o to_o endow_v his_o soul_n with_o they_o he_o will_v be_v worthy_a to_o be_v entertain_v at_o this_o feast_n and_o fit_a to_o be_v bid_v welcome_a beside_o if_o repentance_n and_o forsake_v all_o his_o sin_n will_v go_v down_o with_o he_o there_o be_v no_o man_n who_o pretend_v to_o religion_n but_o may_v perform_v every_o thing_n else_o which_o be_v require_v to_o this_o communion_n for_o there_o will_v be_v no_o great_a difficulty_n in_o pay_v christ_n honour_n and_o reveverence_n and_o follow_v he_o with_o love_n and_o thankfulness_n and_o resign_v ourselves_o up_o to_o his_o use_n and_o abhor_v of_o our_o sin_n if_o repentance_n and_o reformation_n be_v not_o annex_v to_o they_o man_n can_v love_v christ_n hearty_o and_o thank_v he_o free_o and_o honour_v he_o abundant_o and_o resign_v themselves_o up_o to_o he_o whole_o and_o believe_v in_o he_o cheerful_o if_o he_o will_v not_o peremptory_o require_v they_o to_o amend_v their_o way_n and_o forsake_v their_o sin_n which_o be_v the_o thing_n they_o place_v their_o chief_a pleasure_n and_o delight_n in_o so_o that_o if_o any_o man_n will_v not_o fit_v himself_o for_o receive_v it_o be_v not_o for_o the_o difficulty_n of_o other_o duty_n as_o if_o he_o can_v not_o brook_v they_o but_o only_o for_o the_o difficulty_n of_o repentance_n so_o that_o impenitence_n be_v true_o at_o the_o bottom_n he_o will_v not_o satisfy_v those_o who_o have_v suffer_v by_o he_o or_o forgive_v those_o who_o have_v injure_v he_o or_o be_v at_o peace_n and_o charity_n with_o all_o man_n or_o renounce_v that_o injustice_n lasciviousness_n drunkenness_n or_o other_o know_a sin_n which_o in_o confirm_v the_o new_a covenant_n he_o must_v promise_v god_n he_o will_v depart_v from_o it_o be_v because_o his_o heart_n stick_v to_o some_o of_o these_o or_o some_o other_o such_o like_a transgression_n and_o will_v not_o go_v off_o from_o they_o that_o he_o be_v a_o unfit_a and_o unworthy_a uncleanness_n malice_n contentiousness_n fraud_n oppression_n slander_n censoriousness_n evil-speaking_a or_o some_o other_o damn_v crime_n which_o he_o will_v not_o be_v at_o the_o pain_n to_o leave_v for_o christ_n sake_n or_o for_o any_o thing_n that_o he_o either_o have_v or_o will_v do_v for_o he_o now_o if_o any_o of_o those_o who_o read_v this_o treatise_n be_v such_o as_o these_o and_o i_o put_v the_o matter_n to_o their_o own_o conscience_n i_o confess_v they_o be_v not_o worthy_a to_o come_v to_o the_o sacrament_n till_o they_o turn_v away_o from_o such_o a_o know_a fault_n
