to_o convince_v man_n of_o second_o vindicat._n p._n 268_o 269._o so_o again_o p._n 323._o he_o urge_v that_o his_o death_n and_o resurrection_n be_v matter_n of_o fact_n which_o happen_v to_o he_o in_o their_o due_a time_n to_o complete_a in_o he_o the_o character_n and_o prediction_n of_o the_o messiah_n and_o demonstrate_v he_o to_o be_v the_o deliverer_n promise_v they_o be_v no_o more_o necessary_a to_o be_v believe_v to_o make_v a_o man_n a_o christian_n than_o any_o other_o part_n of_o divine_a revelation_n etc._n etc._n thus_o mr._n lock_n but_o the_o question_n be_v not_o whether_o the_o crucifixion_n death_n and_o resurrection_n of_o christ_n be_v propose_v by_o the_o apostle_n as_o the_o fundamental_a truth_n which_o they_o principal_o aim_v at_o and_o endeavour_v to_o convince_v their_o hearer_n of_o but_o whether_o they_o be_v not_o propose_v by_o they_o as_o fundamental_a truth_n whether_o this_o that_o jesus_n be_v the_o messiah_n be_v the_o principal_a article_n and_o whether_o it_o be_v the_o only_a article_n preach_v by_o the_o apostle_n as_o necessary_a to_o the_o make_v man_n christian_n be_v different_a question_n mr._n lock_v in_o his_o reasonab_n of_o christian._n p._n 31._o say_v express_o of_o the_o article_n of_o christ_n resurrection_n that_o it_o be_v also_o common_o require_v to_o be_v believe_v as_o a_o necessary_a article_n where_o we_o may_v observe_v the_o word_n also_o which_o denote_v that_o not_o only_o the_o article_n of_o jesus_n be_v the_o messiah_n but_o also_o this_o of_o the_o resurrection_n be_v common_o require_v as_o necessary_a and_o according_o the_o same_o mr._n lock_n say_v present_o after_o that_o our_o saviour_n resurrection_n be_v necessary_a now_o to_o be_v believe_v by_o those_o who_o will_v receive_v he_o as_o the_o messiah_n it_o be_v true_a that_o in_o a_o place_n late_o cite_v viz._n his_o second_o vindication_n p._n 323._o he_o say_v that_o the_o article_n of_o christ_n death_n and_o resurrection_n be_v no_o more_o necessary_a to_o be_v believe_v to_o make_v a_o man_n a_o christian_n than_o any_o other_o part_n of_o divine_a revelation_n but_o than_o it_o immediate_o follow_v but_o as_o far_o as_o they_o have_v a_o immediate_a connexion_n with_o his_o be_v the_o messiah_n and_o can_v be_v deny_v without_o deny_v he_o to_o be_v the_o messiah_n and_o so_o he_o plain_o grant_v that_o so_o far_o as_o they_o have_v such_o a_o connexion_n with_o his_o be_v the_o messiah_n they_o be_v necessary_a to_o be_v believe_v to_o make_v a_o man_n a_o christian_n which_o be_v as_o much_o as_o we_o need_v desire_v for_o thence_o it_o follow_v that_o this_o that_o jesus_n be_v the_o messiah_n be_v not_o the_o sole_a doctrine_n that_o be_v preach_v as_o necessary_a to_o be_v believe_v to_o that_o end_n i_o must_v not_o forget_v that_o mr._n lock_v also_o say_v that_o our_o saviour_n crucifixion_n death_n and_o resurrection_n be_v mention_v and_o make_v use_n of_o to_o prove_v that_o jesus_n be_v the_o messiah_n if_o so_o these_o article_n that_o jesus_n be_v crucified_a that_o he_o die_v and_o that_o he_o rise_v from_o death_n be_v the_o premise_n and_o this_o that_o he_o be_v the_o messiah_n the_o conclusion_n now_o it_o must_v be_v acknowledge_v that_o the_o premise_n be_v necessary_a to_o be_v believe_v before_o we_o can_v believe_v the_o conclusion_n and_o therefore_o this_o make_v against_o mr._n lock_n not_o at_o all_o for_o he_o if_o we_o can_v believe_v that_o jesus_n be_v the_o messiah_n unless_o we_o believe_v that_o he_o rise_v from_o the_o dead_a which_o mr._n lock_n confess_v then_o the_o article_n of_o the_o resurrection_n be_v necessary_a to_o be_v preach_v and_o believe_v to_o make_v a_o man_n a_o christian._n 3._o he_o say_v that_o his_o resurrection_n and_o some_o other_o article_n be_v put_v for_o his_o be_v the_o messiah_n and_o propose_v to_o be_v believe_v in_o the_o place_n of_o it_o but_o i_o shall_v â—â—ve_v occasion_n time_n insist_v on_o thus_o in_o his_o reasonab_n of_o christianity_n p._n 31._o he_o say_v that_o christ_n resurrection_n be_v sometime_o sole_o insist_v on_o so_o in_o his_o second_o vindication_n p._n 284._o he_o plain_o confess_v that_o in_o the_o story_n of_o what_o paul_n and_o barnabas_n say_v at_o lystra_n the_o article_n of_o the_o messiah_n be_v not_o mention_v though_o at_o the_o same_o time_n they_o preach_v the_o article_n of_o the_o one_o live_v god_n see_v also_o ibid._n p._n 307._o where_o he_o say_v that_o it_o be_v not_o at_o all_o to_o be_v wonder_v that_o his_o ascension_n dominion_n and_o judge_v the_o quick_a and_o dead_a be_v sometime_o put_v alone_o and_o if_o they_o be_v sometime_o put_v alone_o than_o the_o article_n of_o his_o be_v the_o messiah_n be_v sometime_o omit_v to_o the_o same_o purpose_n he_o say_v ibid._n p._n 308._o these_o where_o they_o be_v set_v alone_o for_o the_o faith_n to_o which_o salvation_n be_v promise_v plain_o
