there_o send_v he_o to_o tharsus_n where_o he_o be_v bear_v that_o both_o by_o defence_n of_o his_o place_n and_o also_o by_o defence_n of_o his_o kinsman_n he_o may_v be_v keep_v from_o his_o enemy_n and_o here_o we_o learn_v not_o to_o be_v weary_a of_o welldoing_a but_o to_o make_v one_o good_a turn_n the_o beginning_n of_o another_o the_o love_n of_o his_o country_n and_o the_o care_n he_o word_n receive_v the_o sacrament_n keep_v of_o the_o sabbath_n etc._n etc._n all_o which_o thing_n must_v be_v level_v to_o the_o increase_n of_o our_o knowledge_n and_o build_v up_o of_o a_o good_a conscience_n neither_o with_o frantic_a heretic_n despise_v the_o mean_n as_o though_o without_o they_o we_o can_v live_v in_o obedience_n to_o god_n or_o love_n to_o our_o brethren_n 5_o it_o be_v a_o easy_a thing_n to_o dissuade_v man_n from_o holy_a day_n but_o it_o be_v a_o hard_a thing_n to_o bring_v man_n to_o the_o true_a observation_n of_o the_o sabbath_n it_o be_v easy_a to_o dissuade_v man_n from_o popish_a shrift_n but_o it_o be_v hard_o to_o bring_v they_o to_o christian_a conession_n of_o sin_n it_o be_v easy_a to_o withdraw_v man_n from_o superstitious_a fast_a day_n but_o it_o be_v hard_o to_o bring_v they_o to_o the_o true_a use_n of_o fast_v it_o be_v easy_a to_o remove_v the_o papistical_a feast_v day_n but_o hard_o to_o bring_v in_o the_o godly_a love-feast_n 6_o as_o the_o lord_n give_v the_o wicked_a a_o taste_n of_o hell_n in_o this_o life_n so_o do_v he_o give_v a_o taste_n of_o heaven_n and_o of_o his_o goodness_n to_o his_o holy_a child_n in_o this_o life_n for_o godliness_n have_v the_o promise_n of_o god_n love_n to_o be_v manifest_v and_o find_v of_o the_o faithful_a both_o in_o this_o life_n and_o in_o the_o life_n to_o come_v of_o the_o truth_n of_o god_n promise_v we_o must_v consider_v thus_o if_o we_o look_v well_o to_o our_o small_a obedience_n and_o manifold_a transgression_n we_o shall_v not_o think_v it_o much_o if_o we_o feel_v his_o fatherly_a correction_n it_o may_v be_v that_o ever_o since_o we_o have_v give_v ourselves_o to_o god_n service_n we_o be_v more_o afflict_a diverse_a way_n then_o if_o we_o consider_v that_o we_o before_o all_o thing_n be_v in_o better_a case_n no_o such_o disturbance_n in_o religion_n no_o such_o noise_n of_o notorious_a sin_n no_o such_o turmoiling_n on_o every_o side_n all_o thing_n be_v at_o good_a quiet_n but_o now_o we_o have_v more_o trouble_n than_o ever_o in_o former_a time_n be_v hear_v of_o the_o wicked_a do_v not_o only_o break_v their_o neck_n at_o this_o block_n but_o god_n his_o own_o child_n have_v dangerous_o stumble_v at_o it_o for_o when_o job_n david_n jeremiah_n without_o god_n his_o spirit_n behold_v the_o prosperity_n of_o the_o wicked_a and_o the_o adversity_n all_o sin_n and_o wickedness_n it_o be_v marvelous_a to_o see_v how_o great_o parent_n can_v bewail_v the_o want_n of_o one_o natural_a gift_n proceed_v of_o some_o imperfection_n and_o how_o easy_o they_o can_v pass_v over_o without_o any_o grief_n the_o want_n of_o all_o spiritual_a graoe_n spring_v from_o corrupt_a education_n in_o like_a manner_n it_o be_v strange_a that_o man_n can_v take_v the_o matter_n so_o heavy_o when_o their_o child_n break_v into_o such_o offence_n as_o either_o have_v open_a shame_n or_o civil_a punishment_n follow_v they_o and_o yet_o can_v make_v no_o bone_n but_o post_n over_o such_o sin_n as_o be_v against_o the_o majesty_n of_o god_n accompany_v with_o everlasting_a confusion_n and_o unspeakable_a torment_n wherein_o what_o do_v most_o part_n of_o man_n bewray_v but_o their_o greathy_a pocrisie_n in_o that_o neither_o their_o joy_n nor_o their_o grief_n be_v sound_a to_o their_o child_n and_o that_o they_o love_v themselves_o more_o in_o clothe_v as_o solomon_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o his_o royalty_n though_o their_o robe_n be_v as_o rich_a as_o be_v aaron_n ephod_n or_o breastplate_n or_o the_o most_o costly_a part_n of_o his_o garment_n all_o be_v of_o no_o worth_n without_o grace_n though_o they_o feed_v on_o the_o dainty_a dish_n and_o do_v eat_v angel_n food_n as_o the_o israelite_n be_v say_v to_o do_v yet_o if_o they_o be_v sinful_a and_o rebellious_a they_o shall_v perish_v as_o corah_n dathan_n and_o akiron_n and_o many_o other_o of_o they_o do_v though_o their_o habitation_n be_v as_o sumptuous_a &_o delightful_a he_o pray_v that_o he_o may_v not_o be_v oppress_v of_o his_o enemy_n now_o he_o pray_v that_o his_o enemy_n may_v be_v suppress_v at_o the_o first_o sight_n this_o will_v seem_v not_o to_o be_v a_o charitable_a kind_n of_o deal_v to_o pray_v against_o enemy_n because_o love_n require_v that_o we_o shall_v pray_v for_o our_o enemy_n how_o then_o do_v this_o agree_v with_o the_o rule_n of_o love_n or_o shall_v we_o think_v that_o the_o man_n of_o god_n do_v any_o thing_n here_o against_o enemy_n the_o law_n of_o charity_n we_o have_v show_v that_o the_o child_n of_o god_n be_v never_o enkindle_v with_o wrath_n for_o their_o own_o cause_n but_o for_o the_o breach_n of_o the_o law_n of_o god_n so_o this_o man_n of_o god_n have_v no_o respect_n of_o himself_o but_o of_o god_n law_n his_o cause_n be_v good_a his_o persecutor_n cause_n be_v evil_a he_o hurt_v they_o not_o but_o labour_v by_o all_o mean_n to_o overcome_v they_o with_o good_a he_o do_v not_o for_o a_o while_n but_o continue_v long_o in_o it_o he_o be_v not_o weary_a of_o his_o well_o do_v but_o go_v forward_o even_o to_o the_o very_o fail_v of_o his_o eye_n yea_o his_o eye_n as_o he_o say_v in_o the_o last_o grow_v desperate_a than_o we_o may_v desire_v the_o lord_n to_o take_v his_o cause_n into_o his_o own_o hand_n and_o here_o we_o be_v to_o observe_v the_o prophet_n say_v they_o have_v etc._n etc._n where_o he_o note_v not_o any_o particular_a person_n nor_o make_v mention_n of_o the_o destruction_n of_o any_o singular_a man_n but_o use_v a_o general_a rule_n wherefore_o for_o our_o instruction_n these_o rule_n be_v more_o diligent_o to_o be_v observe_v first_o we_o be_v to_o look_v that_o our_o cause_n be_v good_a and_o our_o adversary_n cause_n be_v evil_a second_o enemy_n that_o we_o be_v leave_v they_o to_o god_n secret_a judgement_n thus_o we_o see_v here_o be_v no_o breach_n of_o charity_n but_o now_o adays_o we_o may_v hereby_o see_v man_n revenge_v rather_o their_o own_o affection_n than_o defend_v god_n glory_n wherefore_o when_o we_o have_v pray_v ill_o against_o they_o for_o who_o we_o never_o flesh_n pray_v for_o good_a i_o say_v to_o they_o tremble_v and_o fear_v for_o this_o be_v not_o the_o zeal_n of_o eliah_n this_o be_v not_o the_o zeal_n of_o david_n it_o be_v a_o zeal_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o not_o of_o the_o spirit_n it_o will_v work_v their_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n be_v not_o far_o off_o either_o to_o their_o amendment_n or_o to_o their_o further_a and_o more_o speedy_a destruction_n if_o we_o go_v through_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o prophet_n we_o shall_v see_v this_o to_o be_v true_a as_o first_o we_o may_v see_v in_o the_o first_o second_o three_o six_o seven_o and_o eight_o of_o isaiah_n the_o prophet_n of_o god_n threaten_v the_o israelite_n that_o because_o they_o come_v to_o worship_n of_o a_o custom_n but_o lay_v still_o in_o their_o sin_n because_o they_o be_v rebellious_a give_v to_o pleasure_n and_o contemner_n mean_a time_n they_o fall_v into_o sin_n yet_o they_o will_v not_o fall_v from_o sin_n to_o sin_n sure_o the_o lord_n will_v in_o time_n draw_v they_o out_o of_o their_o sin_n and_o spare_v they_o from_o the_o common_a destruction_n as_o he_o do_v here_o david_n who_o though_o not_o this_o general_a contempt_n of_o the_o word_n yet_o some_o sin_n he_o have_v this_o be_v then_o in_o the_o child_n of_o god_n true_o call_v that_o although_o sometime_o more_o carnal_a than_o spiritual_a and_o slide_v into_o many_o want_n and_o infirmity_n yet_o they_o fall_v not_o from_o one_o sin_n to_o the_o word_n we_o will_v see_v our_o heart_n then_o must_v we_o bring_v they_o to_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n for_o he_o hate_v hypocrisy_n &_o will_v be_v worship_v in_o truth_n and_o therefore_o shall_v all_o perish_v if_o not_o in_o these_o yet_o in_o some_o of_o these_o if_o not_o in_o some_o of_o these_o yet_o in_o some_o other_o like_a to_o these_o for_o the_o lord_n have_v many_o and_o diverse_a judgement_n whereby_o he_o will_v tread_v down_o his_o enemy_n beside_o the_o apostle_n say_v eph._n 5._o 6._o col._n 3._o 6._o speak_v of_o fornicator_n covetous_a man_n adulterer_n idolater_n &_o wantoness_n let_v no_o man_n deceive_v you_o with_o vain_a word_n for_o for_o such_o thing_n come_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n upon_o the_o child_n of_o disobedience_n this_o be_v speak_v mercy_n and_o there_o be_v a_o judgement_n of_o severity_n the_o first_o whereof_o be_v understand_v in_o this_o place_n as_o we_o may_v gather_v by_o the_o word_n go_v before_o hear_v my_o voice_n o_o lord_n according_a to_o thy_o love_a kindness_n of_o which_o covenant_n of_o mercy_n he_o also_o make_v mention_n in_o the_o next_o portion_n vers_n 7._o consider_v o_o lord_n how_o i_o love_v thy_o precept_n quicken_v i_o according_a to_o thy_o love_a kindness_n this_o be_v that_o covenant_n of_o grace_n wherein_o the_o lord_n have_v promise_v to_o pardon_v our_o sin_n and_o to_o hear_v our_o prayer_n wherefore_o though_o in_o respect_n of_o god_n wrath_n and_o our_o sin_n we_o dare_v not_o appear_v before_o his_o majesty_n yet_o in_o compare_v our_o cause_n which_o be_v the_o lord_n cause_n with_o the_o cause_n of_o our_o adversary_n who_o be_v also_o the_o adversary_n of_o god_n and_o in_o respect_n of_o his_o mercy_n in_o defend_v his_o own_o cause_n and_o in_o preserve_v they_o that_o maintain_v a_o good_a cause_n we_o may_v come_v with_o boldness_n unto_o he_o and_o with_o a_o assure_a hope_n that_o our_o prayer_n shall_v be_v hear_v thus_o we_o may_v call_v to_o mind_n how_o god_n be_v accustom_v to_o deal_v with_o his_o people_n fear_v before_o he_o in_o respect_n of_o ourselves_o but_o recover_v ourselves_o through_o hope_n in_o his_o sweet_a promise_n whereon_o we_o must_v â—o_o stay_v ourselves_o as_o the_o remembrance_n of_o they_o may_v support_v we_o and_o to_o do_v this_o the_o better_a we_o must_v observe_v the_o accomplishment_n of_o they_o both_o in_o ourselves_o and_o in_o other_o thus_o we_o may_v see_v what_o a_o great_a stay_v it_o be_v in_o trouble_n to_o know_v that_o no_o other_o trouble_n overtake_v we_o none_o other_o temptation_n have_v invade_v we_o than_o such_o as_o have_v overtake_v and_o invade_v other_o of_o god_n child_n &_o wherein_o they_o have_v find_v deliverance_n further_o we_o may_v herein_o desire_v the_o lord_n to_o afford_v sentence_n with_o we_o when_o our_o cause_n be_v good_a though_o we_o be_v not_o so_o upright_o in_o defend_v it_o as_o we_o ought_v to_o be_v or_o when_o our_o good_a cause_n be_v well_o handle_v and_o that_o not_o for_o ourselves_o but_o in_o respect_n of_o our_o adversary_n ill_a cause_n he_o will_v deliver_v us._n wherefore_o when_o we_o will_v obtain_v our_o request_n we_o must_v endeavour_n as_o much_o as_o in_o we_o lie_v to_o offer_v a_o good_a cause_n unto_o the_o lord_n and_o well_o handle_v vers._n 150._o they_o draw_v near_o that_o follow_v after_o night-watche_n i_o wait_v on_o thy_o word_n i_o mediate_v on_o thy_o word_n i_o have_v observe_v thy_o judgement_n of_o old_a when_o i_o be_o thus_o near_o will_v thou_o forsake_v i_o they_o be_v in_o time_n we_o come_v to_o the_o like_a temptation_n let_v we_o labour_n to_o be_v profitable_a in_o the_o like_a meditation_n for_o flesh_n and_o blood_n think_v it_o strange_a that_o wicked_a cause_n now_o why_o the_o wicked_a flourish_n so_o long_o and_o why_o the_o lord_n defer_v to_o help_v his_o child_n be_v that_o the_o wicked_a may_v either_o by_o his_o long_a suffering_n come_v to_o repentance_n or_o else_o be_v leave_v excuseless_a yea_o after_o he_o often_o stay_v to_o pour_v forth_o his_o vengeance_n because_o note_n their_o sin_n be_v not_o accomplish_v and_o their_o iniquity_n be_v not_o come_v to_o the_o full_a height_n measure_n and_o number_n and_o that_o his_o child_n may_v have_v their_o secret_a sin_n punish_v here_o that_o be_v to_o humble_v they_o to_o allure_v they_o to_o obedience_n to_o try_v their_o faith_n to_o prove_v their_o patience_n to_o work_v in_o they_o a_o contempt_n of_o this_o world_n and_o a_o desire_n of_o the_o world_n to_o come_v so_o that_o that_o which_o they_o suffer_v unjust_o of_o man_n just_o they_o suffer_v of_o god_n and_o when_o god_n child_n do_v not_o thus_o profit_n the_o lord_n in_o mercy_n will_v let_v the_o rod_n still_o tarry_v upon_o they_o until_o they_o have_v profit_v in_o some_o good_a measure_n thus_o we_o see_v the_o justice_n of_o god_n will_v not_o suffer_v he_o to_o punish_v until_o sin_n be_v come_v to_o the_o full_a and_o the_o love_n of_o god_n will_v not_o leave_v to_o correct_v he_o until_o there_o grow_v some_o profit_n and_o yet_o so_o as_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n the_o chilren_n of_o god_n sustain_v no_o loss_n because_o whatsoever_o they_o outward_o lose_v they_o inward_o gain_v wherefore_o see_v the_o lord_n have_v promise_v that_o the_o rod_n of_o the_o wicked_a shall_v not_o fall_v on_o the_o lot_n of_o the_o righteous_a and_o that_o our_o temptation_n shall_v not_o be_v great_a than_o we_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o bear_v we_o must_v know_v that_o when_o the_o godly_a once_o begin_v to_o faint_v and_o the_o wicked_a think_v they_o be_v come_v to_o their_o height_n even_o than_o it_o be_v due_a time_n with_o the_o lord_n to_o send_v happy_a deliverance_n to_o the_o one_o and_o a_o speedy_a overthrow_n of_o all_o the_o counâ—â—ls_n of_o the_o other_o the_o man_n of_o god_n then_o have_v these_o effect_n in_o he_o be_v near_o his_o deliverance_n but_o the_o wicked_a be_v in_o their_o pride_n be_v near_o god_n vengeance_n how_o necessary_a this_o doctrine_n be_v common_a practice_n may_v admonish_v we_o for_o thus_o reason_v flesh_n and_o blood_n
