levite_n give_v a_o atonement_n for_o they_o and_o be_v offer_v up_o to_o the_o lord_n in_o their_o stead_n and_o as_o the_o rabbin_n say_v every_o first_o bear_v lay_v on_o hand_n on_o the_o levite_n that_o be_v for_o he_o which_o if_o it_o be_v so_o will_v afford_v we_o two_o other_o answer_n to_o this_o text._n 1._o the_o child_n of_o israel_n have_v not_o only_o a_o special_a command_n but_o hand_n the_o levite_n be_v not_o thereupon_o invest_v into_o their_o office_n it_o be_v aaron_n wave_n of_o the_o levite_n and_o separate_v they_o from_o among_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n that_o do_v constitute_v and_o make_v they_o church-officer_n if_o this_o be_v full_o grant_v nothing_o be_v gain_v against_o we_o for_o we_o be_v far_o from_o think_v that_o ordination_n do_v constitute_v or_o make_v church_n officer_n much_o less_o do_v we_o imagine_v that_o imposition_n of_o hand_n do_v it_o but_o from_o hence_o we_o gather_v thus_o much_o that_o it_o be_v not_o the_o intendment_n of_o imposition_n of_o hand_n in_o old_a testament_n day_n to_o confer_v a_o office_n and_o therefore_o see_v the_o ceremony_n be_v borrow_v thence_o it_o be_v very_o unlikely_a that_o in_o new_a ordination_n do_v limit_v it_o to_o officer_n only_o let_v our_o brethren_n prove_v any_o such_o limitation_n and_o unless_o they_o can_v do_v that_o which_o we_o suppose_v they_o never_o can_v it_o will_v necessary_o follow_v that_o in_o a_o church_n which_o have_v no_o officer_n some_o believer_n may_v lawful_o or_o warrantable_o ordain_v without_o officer_n if_o they_o may_v perform_v the_o tell_v we_o that_o they_o may_v argue_v from_o what_o be_v record_v by_o jewish_a 184._o jus_fw-la divin_n min._n p._n 184._o writer_n concern_v the_o custom_n of_o create_v man_n member_n of_o their_o great_a council_n or_o sanhedrin_n and_o they_o tell_v we_o that_o when_o a_o successor_n be_v to_o be_v provide_v for_o moses_n god_n command_v he_o to_o take_v joshua_n and_o lay_v his_o we_o suppose_v our_o brethren_n do_v not_o take_v authoritative-teaching_a in_o this_o sense_n neither_o for_o undoubted_o all_o that_o preach_v be_v to_o do_v it_o with_o life_n and_o zeal_n and_o to_o use_v utmost_a endeavour_n that_o the_o gospel_n may_v come_v in_o power_n to_o the_o heart_n of_o those_o they_o speak_v to_o that_o so_o they_o may_v not_o labour_v in_o vain_a they_o will_v not_o allow_v gift_v brethren_n to_o preach_v in_o a_o contrary_a manner_n to_o this_o 3._o but_o authority_n be_v take_v by_o some_o for_o that_o power_n which_o a_o officer_n have_v over_o those_o that_o he_o bear_v office_n to_o and_o because_o our_o brethren_n in_o their_o aforementioned_a distinction_n do_v oppose_v it_o unto_o and_o difference_n it_o from_o brotherly_a charitative_n teach_v therefore_o we_o judge_v that_o they_o take_v authoritative_a teach_n in_o this_o sense_n viz._n for_o the_o preach_n as_o officer_n and_o the_o exercise_n of_o office-power_n therein_o and_o those_o two_o scripture_n which_o they_o allege_v to_o prove_v authoritative_a teach_n do_v both_o of_o they_o speak_v of_o preach_v office-wise_a as_o 1_o thes_n 5._o 12._o only_o officer_n be_v over_o the_o church_n of_o the_o thessalonian_o in_o the_o lord_n and_o therefore_o none_o but_o officer_n can_v so_o admonish_v the_o church_n but_o we_o assert_v that_o gift_a member_n may_v admonish_v a_o church_n in_o a_o brotherly_a way_n though_o not_o as_o over_o it_o in_o the_o lord_n so_o titus_n 2._o 15._o this_o be_v not_o only_o a_o direction_n give_v to_o titus_n a_o officer_n but_o also_o about_o a_o special_a act_n wherein_o he_o be_v to_o put_v forth_o office-power_n viz._n in_o the_o case_n of_o rebuke_n when_o any_o church-member_n be_v obstinate_a he_o be_v direct_v how_o to_o exercise_v his_o office_n then_o rebuke_v not_o only_o in_o a_o brotherly_a way_n but_o as_o over_o they_o in_o the_o lord_n with_o command_n yea_o with_o all_o command_n church-member_n be_v oblige_v to_o hearken_v unto_o admonition_n or_o just_a rebuke_n from_o the_o mouth_n of_o any_o brother_n matth._n 18._o 15._o but_o they_o be_v under_o special_a and_o double_a obligation_n to_o hearken_v unto_o admonition_n and_o just_a rebuke_n from_o the_o mouth_n of_o their_o officer_n because_o else_o they_o be_v guilty_a of_o contemn_v another_o ordinance_n of_o christ_n viz._n office-relation_n it_o become_v a_o sin_n not_o only_o against_o he_o as_o a_o brother_n but_o as_o a_o officer_n it_o be_v a_o offence_n not_o only_o against_o the_o relation_n of_o brotherhood_n but_o against_o a_o high_a relation_n of_o office_n there_o be_v a_o break_n of_o their_o own_o engagement_n which_o they_o make_v in_o commit_v themselves_o to_o his_o charge_n it_o be_v against_o that_o command_n hebr._n 13._o 17._o obey_v they_o that_o have_v the_o rule_n over_o you_o and_o submit_v yourselves_o so_o that_o officer_n may_v give_v special_a command_n in_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n to_o those_o they_o bear_v office_n unto_o that_o they_o obey_v the_o will_n of_o christ_n and_o may_v rebuke_v they_o with_o all_o command_n for_o disobedience_n a_o officer_n of_o one_o congregation_n can_v by_o any_o gospel-rule_a that_o yet_o we_o find_v either_o give_v such_o command_n or_o rebuke_n to_o the_o member_n of_o another_o church_n he_o may_v in_o a_o brotherly_a way_n or_o the_o scholar_n in_o the_o schoolmaster_n absence_n yet_o not_o as_o be_v over_o the_o child_n or_o servant_n or_o school_n not_o as_o have_v the_o charge_n of_o they_o only_o the_o parent_n or_o master_n or_o schoolmaster_n do_v command_v or_o rebuke_v authoritative_o as_o be_v set_v over_o they_o now_o if_o our_o brethren_n take_v authoritative_a preach_v in_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n they_o allege_v to_o prove_v it_o by_o as_o we_o suppose_v they_o do_v then_o their_o three_o proposition_n viz._n that_o none_o may_v take_v upon_o he_o the_o office_n of_o the_o ministry_n without_o a_o call_n and_o that_o none_o may_v do_v the_o work_n of_o the_o ministry_n authoritative_o i._n e._n office-wise_a without_o ordination_n and_o all_o their_o argument_n to_o prove_v it_o if_o they_o prove_v no_o more_o than_o they_o bring_v they_o for_o may_v be_v grant_v and_o yet_o they_o have_v gain_v nothing_o against_o the_o preach_n of_o gift_a man_n without_o ordination_n for_o we_o may_v say_v though_o gift_a man_n may_v not_o preach_v in_o public_a assembly_n or_o church_n authoritative_o i._n e._n office-wise_a as_o be_v over_o they_o in_o the_o lord_n yet_o they_o have_v authority_n i._n e._n a_o right_a and_o lawful_a power_n from_o christ_n charitative_o to_o preach_v in_o public_a assembly_n in_o a_o brotherly_a way_n they_o may_v with_o life_n fervour_n and_o zeal_n exhort_v to_o duty_n and_o show_v the_o danger_n of_o neglect_v it_o and_o rebuke_v for_o sin_n not_o as_o be_v over_o they_o but_o as_o be_v desirous_a of_o their_o eternal_a good_a and_o officer_n out_o of_o their_o own_o church_n can_v do_v no_o more_o yet_o because_o our_o brethren_n will_v as_o by_o some_o expression_n we_o gather_v be_v understand_v to_o speak_v against_o all_o preach_n of_o gift_a man_n in_o ordinary_a case_n without_o ordination_n therefore_o we_o shall_v give_v some_o ground_n for_o it_o and_o answer_v such_o argument_n as_o they_o bring_v against_o it_o chap._n v._n wherein_o two_o argument_n be_v urge_v prove_v the_o lawfulness_n of_o the_o preach_a of_o gift_a brethren_n though_o not_o ordain_v our_o assertion_n be_v that_o some_o man_n who_o be_v not_o ordain_v officer_n may_v preach_v or_o that_o person_n who_o have_v preach_a gift_n and_o grace_n or_o be_v apt_a to_o teach_v may_v ordinary_o exercise_v those_o gift_n in_o public_a assembly_n though_o they_o be_v not_o ordain_v officer_n this_o appear_v by_o these_o argument_n argum._n 1._o from_o the_o antecedaneousness_n of_o election_n to_o ordination_n if_o election_n from_o a_o church_n ought_v by_o gospel-order_n to_o precede_v or_o go_v before_o ordination_n of_o officer_n then_o person_n not_o ordain_v may_v ordinary_o preach_v but_o election_n ought_v by_o gospel-order_n to_o precede_v or_o go_v before_o ordination_n of_o officer_n ergo_fw-la person_n not_o ordain_v may_v ordinary_o preach_v the_o consequence_n of_o the_o major_n be_v clear_v thus_o because_o good_a experience_n that_o a_o man_n be_v gift_v for_o office_n and_o that_o his_o gift_n be_v suitable_a to_o that_o church_n be_v so_o necessary_a as_o antecedent_n to_o election_n that_o it_o can_v be_v ground_v or_o regular_a without_o it_o a_o church_n can_v in_o faith_n elect_a or_o choose_v a_o man_n and_o commit_v their_o soul_n to_o his_o charge_n for_o teach_v and_o oversight_n if_o they_o have_v not_o ground_n to_o persuade_v they_o that_o he_o be_v gift_v and_o qualify_v as_o christ_n require_v officer_n shall_v be_v 1_o tim._n 3._o 1_o 2_o etc._n etc._n and_o that_o his_o gift_n be_v
3_o 1_o 7_o 14._o so_o they_o be_v steward_n which_o do_v not_o only_o denote_v their_o have_v a_o warrant_n to_o officiate_v but_o also_o their_o be_v over_o the_o household_n luk._n 12._o 42_o who_o then_o be_v that_o faithful_a and_o wise_a steward_n who_o his_o lord_n shall_v make_v ruler_n over_o his_o household_n they_o have_v some_o house_n or_o church_n of_o god_n which_o they_o be_v
