the_o covenant_n and_o so_o to_o make_v it_o baptizeable_a however_o as_o p._n martyr_n state_n it_o right_o in_o point_n of_o salvation_n every_o one_o who_o be_v capable_a of_o it_o must_v be_v save_v by_o his_o own_o faith_n the_o just_o shall_v 4._o live_v by_o his_o faith_n not_o the_o faith_n of_o another_o faith_n a._n 4._o but_o in_o the_o four_o place_n it_o may_v be_v true_o affirm_v the_o seed_n and_o beginning_n of_o faith_n wrought_v in_o the_o heart_n by_o the_o secret_a work_n of_o the_o spirit_n a_o inclination_n to_o believe_v and_o to_o show_v forth_o their_o faith_n when_o they_o come_v to_o year_n of_o maturity_n and_o from_o hence_o may_v they_o be_v call_v 28._o believer_n a._n 5._o however_o in_o the_o five_o place_n infant_n of_o believe_a parent_n though_o they_o have_v neither_o actual_a nor_o yet_o habitual_a faith_n yet_o be_v they_o not_o to_o be_v look_v upon_o as_o infidel_n and_o unbeliever_n for_o the_o open_n and_o clear_v of_o which_o we_o exclude_v they_o either_o from_o salvation_n or_o from_o baptism_n true_o the_o former_a do_v both_o that_o positive_a or_o privitive_a infidelity_n the_o habit_n of_o unbelief_n shut_v man_n out_o of_o the_o kingdom_n both_o of_o grace_n and_o glory_n the_o israelite_n last_o can_v not_o enter_v into_o canaan_n a_o type_n of_o both_o because_o of_o their_o unbelief_n not_o so_o this_o negative_a unbelief_n infant_n of_o believe_a parent_n though_o for_o the_o present_a they_o be_v destitute_a of_o faith_n yet_o be_v they_o not_o thereby_o shut_v out_o of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o glory_n nor_o yet_o to_o be_v debar_v from_o the_o privilege_n of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o grace_n which_o be_v agreeable_a to_o their_o condition_n neither_o be_v they_o to_o be_v reckon_v or_o repute_v as_o infidel_n be_v bear_v of_o believe_a parent_n they_o be_v a_o holy_a seed_n member_n of_o the_o church_n within_o the_o covenant_n which_o be_v all_o that_o be_v to_o be_v look_v at_o in_o the_o dispence_n of_o this_o ordinance_n not_o the_o inward_a sanctification_n of_o the_o heart_n whether_o present_a or_o future_a but_o the_o outward_a state_n and_o condition_n of_o the_o person_n this_o be_v that_o which_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v to_o be_v regulate_v by_o in_o the_o administration_n of_o this_o sacrament_n state_n which_o by_o the_o way_n let_v it_o be_v take_v notice_n of_o against_o some_o more_o moderate_a anabaptist_n who_o will_v not_o stick_v to_o indulge_v thus_o much_o unto_o we_o that_o do_v they_o know_v what_o infant_n do_v belong_v not_o to_o withhold_v the_o outward_a privilege_n from_o any_o for_o want_n of_o inward_a grace_n they_o have_v right_a and_o title_n thereunto_o by_o virtue_n of_o their_o visible_a state_n their_o be_v under_o the_o covenant_n outward_o but_o i_o hasten_v to_o a_o conclusion_n of_o this_o point_n one_o or_o two_o objection_n more_o and_o i_o have_v do_v baptism_n obj._n infant_n be_v not_o subject_n capable_a of_o any_o benefit_n by_o baptism_n and_o therefore_o why_o shall_v they_o be_v baptize_v answ_n to_o this_o i_o have_v in_o part_n answer_v heretofore_o let_v i_o now_o do_v it_o material_a it_o seem_v however_o that_o this_o be_v a_o practice_n then_o in_o use_n in_o those_o time_n and_o from_o hence_o as_o judicious_a author_n with_o good_a probability_n conjecture_n come_v that_o custom_n so_o ancient_o and_o universal_o receive_v among_o the_o church_n till_o of_o very_a late_a time_n viz._n the_o have_v of_o godfather_n and_o godmother_n as_o we_o call_v they_o in_o baptism_n some_o person_n special_o appoint_v to_o bear_v witness_n of_o the_o receive_n of_o such_o a_o person_n into_o the_o church_n of_o god_n by_o baptism_n and_o of_o the_o name_n then_o give_v unto_o he_o but_o this_o by_o the_o way_n from_o these_o do_v child_n among_o the_o israelite_n receive_v the_o testimony_n of_o their_o circumcision_n which_o they_o be_v induce_v the_o more_o to_o give_v credit_n to_o because_o they_o see_v the_o same_o practise_v upon_o other_o daily_a and_o even_o such_o a_o testimony_n have_v child_n now_o concern_v their_o baptism_n beside_o the_o testimony_n of_o the_o whole_a congregation_n which_o many_o have_v and_o other_o ought_v to_o have_v repl._n but_o this_o be_v but_o a_o humane_a testimony_n and_o consequent_o fallible_a how_o shall_v i_o build_v my_o faith_n upon_o it_o a._n i_o answer_v a_o humane_a testimony_n be_v sufficient_a to_o build_v a_o humane_a faith_n upon_o true_o a_o divine_a faith_n must_v have_v a_o divine_a testimony_n but_o to_o a_o humane_a faith_n a_o humane_a testimony_n may_v suffice_v now_o such_o be_v this_o faith_n to_o believe_v that_o i_o be_v baptise_a this_o be_v but_o a_o humane_a this_o case_n the_o apprehension_n of_o the_o thing_n shall_v be_v in_o stead_n of_o the_o thing_n itself_o as_o in_o the_o case_n of_o person_n die_v before_o they_o can_v have_v the_o sacrament_n
