time_n he_o have_v the_o promise_n and_o the_o gospel_n preach_v to_o he_o by_o the_o faith_n of_o which_o he_o be_v save_v the_o law_n be_v not_o give_v till_o above_o 400._o year_n after_o he_o receive_v the_o promise_n which_o be_v long_o after_o abraham_n be_v dead_a and_o bury_v so_o you_o see_v all_o transgression_n do_v not_o necessitate_v the_o law_n be_v be_v give_v for_o all_o the_o discovery_n from_o god_n make_v to_o some_o eminent_a patriarch_n such_o as_o enoch_n and_o noah_n but_o especial_o and_o famous_o to_o abraham_n and_o by_o these_o deliver_v to_o the_o people_n enoch_n be_v say_v to_o be_v the_o seven_o from_o adam_n and_o to_o prophesy_v judas_n 14._o and_o noah_n to_o be_v the_o 8_o person_n a_o preacher_n of_o righteousness_n which_o perhaps_o may_v as_o well_o signify_v his_o be_v the_o eight_o famous_a preacher_n from_o adam_n as_o one_o of_o the_o eight_o save_v in_o the_o ark_n 2_o pet._n 2.5_o from_o these_o the_o people_n of_o god_n before_o the_o law_n have_v a_o traditional_a divinity_n and_o gospel_n which_o may_v serve_v well_o enough_o and_o do_v very_o well_o with_o the_o people_n of_o god_n in_o their_o day_n who_o be_v but_o few_o as_o it_o shall_v seem_v to_o hinder_v they_o from_o run_v out_o violent_o into_o transgression_n but_o when_o god_n have_v enter_v into_o covenant_n with_o a_o carnal_a seed_n of_o abraham_n that_o shall_v come_v of_o his_o son_n isaac_n and_o this_o seed_n of_o abraham_n according_a to_o the_o promise_n grow_v and_o multiply_v like_o the_o star_n of_o heaven_n for_o number_n &_o can_v not_o be_v contain_v in_o their_o duty_n by_o so_o few_o traditional_a rule_n as_o the_o patriarch_n and_o the_o good_a man_n in_o their_o day_n live_v and_o serve_v god_n by_o or_o that_o the_o prophet_n which_o they_o have_v among_o they_o one_o at_o a_o time_n be_v not_o able_a to_o teach_v so_o great_a a_o people_n as_o they_o shall_v be_v teach_v but_o that_o they_o will_v be_v apt_a to_o break_v out_o into_o manifold_a transgression_n except_o they_o have_v the_o law_n write_v plain_o for_o they_o in_o table_n of_o stone_n so_o that_o every_o man_n may_v teach_v his_o neighbour_n when_o they_o grow_v irregular_a and_o ungodly_a say_v know_v the_o lord_n then_o for_o the_o sake_n of_o these_o transgression_n and_o for_o the_o prevention_n of_o they_o the_o law_n be_v add_v so_o you_o see_v the_o law_n be_v give_v by_o moses_n only_o occasional_o if_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n can_v have_v be_v contain_v in_o obedience_n as_o well_o as_o adam_n and_o the_o church_n of_o god_n in_o his_o time_n be_v and_o till_o abraham_n time_n and_o after_o abraham_n time_n for_o a_o great_a while_n and_o this_o without_o the_o law_n it_o seem_v the_o law_n have_v never_o be_v give_v by_o moses_n this_o be_v the_o substance_n of_o the_o answer_n and_o to_o this_o suit_n exceed_v well_o another_o place_n of_o the_o same_o apostle_n 1_o tim_n 1.7_o 8_o 9_o there_o be_v a_o sort_n of_o man_n say_v he_o that_o have_v swerve_v from_o the_o way_n of_o faith_n and_o they_o will_v needs_o be_v teacher_n of_o the_o law_n but_o alas_o they_o know_v not_o what_o they_o undertake_v in_o it_o it_o be_v true_a say_v the_o apostle_n the_o law_n be_v good_a if_o a_o man_n use_v it_o lawful_o but_o you_o may_v make_v such_o a_o use_n of_o the_o law_n viz._n in_o the_o matter_n of_o justificaton_n that_o it_o may_v do_v you_o a_o mischief_n and_o whereas_o these_o ignorant_a law-preacher_n tell_v we_o that_o the_o law_n be_v give_v by_o moses_n for_o a_o way_n of_o justification_n we_o know_v say_v he_o ver_fw-la 9_o that_o the_o law_n be_v not_o make_v be_v never_o give_v for_o the_o righteous_a man_n but_o for_o the_o lawless_a and_o disobedient_a for_o the_o ungodly_a and_o for_o sinner_n for_o the_o unholy_a and_o profane_a for_o these_o serve_v the_o law_n of_o the_o first_o table_n for_o murderer_n of_o father_n and_o murderer_n of_o mother_n for_o last_o query_n the_o law_n strict_o take_v for_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n do_v only_o teach_v christ_n virtual_o and_o by_o consequence_n as_o it_o teach_v they_o that_o they_o can_v not_o be_v justify_v by_o its_o righteousness_n and_o thus_o for_o aught_o i_o know_v the_o law_n in_o its_o accusation_n teach_v christ_n to_o the_o gentile_n as_o it_o convince_v they_o of_o the_o insufficiency_n of_o their_o own_o righteousness_n but_o now_o the_o law_n in_o the_o second_o sense_n as_o take_v for_o the_o scripture_n of_o the_o old_a testament_n teach_v christ_n formal_o and_o direct_o though_o more_o obscure_o than_o the_o gospel_n teach_v he_o viz._n in_o type_n and_o prophecy_n it_o be_v endless_a to_o reckon_v up_o all_o the_o type_n promise_n and_o prophecy_n of_o christ_n that_o be_v in_o the_o old-testament_n this_o way_n indeed_o the_o law_n can_v not_o teach_v christ_n unto_o the_o gentile_n who_o have_v not_o the_o scripture_n of_o the_o old-testament_n it_o be_v now_o high_a time_n and_o yet_o in_o this_o place_n seasonable_a enough_o to_o answer_v some_o other_o part_n of_o the_o objection_n which_o i_o propose_v at_o large_a some_o page_n since_o which_o plead_v for_o the_o law_n its_o be_v a_o way_n of_o justification_n unto_o the_o jew_n at_o least_o before_o the_o come_n of_o christ_n if_o not_o to_o we_o now_o and_o something_o of_o that_o not_o steadfast_o look_v to_o the_o end_n of_o that_o which_o be_v alolish_v they_o can_v not_o see_v christ_n the_o end_n of_o the_o law_n 2_o cor._n 3.13_o 14_o 15._o four_o there_o be_v thus_o much_o indeed_o to_o be_v say_v concern_v the_o dispensation_n itself_o that_o it_o be_v dark_a and_o obscure_a the_o child_n of_o israel_n have_v not_o only_o blind_v eye_n and_o a_o veil_a heart_n but_o moses_n have_v also_o a_o veil_n upon_o his_o face_n ver_fw-la 13._o which_o be_v one_o reason_n they_o can_v not_o see_v that_o grace_n which_o be_v in_o his_o dispensation_n moses_n have_v a_o as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o law_n itself_o so_o the_o apostle_n tell_v we_o heb._n 8.7_o for_o if_o that_o first_o covenant_n have_v be_v faultless_a there_o shall_v no_o place_n have_v be_v seek_v for_o the_o second_o what_o this_o fault_n be_v be_v common_o know_v and_o discourse_v and_o it_o be_v the_o obscurity_n of_o it_o the_o promise_n of_o it_o be_v not_o so_o plain_a &_o therefore_o may_v keep_v in_o that_o way_n all_o their_o life_n if_o they_o be_v not_o strict_a observer_n of_o the_o effect_n of_o that_o way_n upon_o their_o conscience_n which_o be_v to_o gall_n and_o sting_v they_o and_o weary_v they_o out_o of_o their_o very_a life_n till_o they_o come_v to_o the_o way_n of_o grace_n and_o thus_o we_o find_v the_o generality_n of_o the_o jew_n do_v mistake_v and_o ruin_v themselves_o by_o it_o so_o that_o unless_o god_n have_v by_o a_o wonderful_a hand_n as_o he_o pluck_v lot_n out_o of_o sodom_n and_o perhaps_o by_o irresistible_a illumination_n and_o attraction_n bring_v a_o remnant_n to_o himself_o all_o israel_n have_v be_v burn_v up_o by_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n they_o have_v be_v as_o sodom_n and_o gomorrah_n rom._n 9.29_o to_o the_o end_n rom._n 10.1.2.3_o i_o may_v well_o transcribe_v every_o word_n of_o these_o eight_o verse_n now_o this_o be_v the_o fault_n which_o god_n find_v with_o his_o first_o covenant_n that_o though_o it_o be_v a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n yet_o he_o be_v so_o gracious_a that_o he_o think_v it_o be_v not_o plain_a enough_o to_o save_v the_o generality_n of_o they_o they_o will_v be_v still_o mistake_v and_o misconstrue_v his_o covenant_n it_o will_v not_o make_v they_o holy_a enough_o nor_o save_v enough_o of_o they_o and_o therefore_o this_o fault_n the_o lord_n amends_o in_o the_o second_o â—ovenant_n in_o the_o new-covenant_n heb._n 8_o 9_o for_o find_v fault_n he_o say_v behold_v the_o day_n come_v say_v the_o lord_n that_o i_o will_v make_v a_o new_a covenant_n with_o the_o house_n of_o israel_n not_o according_a to_o the_o covenant_n that_o i_o make_v with_o their_o father_n when_o i_o take_v they_o by_o the_o hand_n to_o lead_v they_o out_o of_o the_o land_n of_o egypt_n because_o here_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o the_o change_n because_o they_o continue_v not_o in_o my_o covenant_n and_o i_o regard_v they_o not_o it_o be_v a_o covevenant_n which_o they_o break_v with_o i_o and_o i_o break_v with_o they_o upon_o there_o be_v a_o fault_n in_o that_o covenant_n which_o seem_v to_o be_v this_o it_o have_v not_o grace_n enough_o in_o it_o to_o hold_v they_o they_o continue_v not_o in_o it_o the_o fault_n be_v lay_v upon_o the_o covenant_n not_o so_o much_o upon_o the_o party_n covenant_v though_o they_o be_v not_o free_a from_o blame_n god_n indeed_o be_v free_a he_o be_v ready_a to_o give_v his_o grace_n and_o spirit_n under_o the_o first_o covenant_n but_o the_o covenant_n be_v not_o a_o free_a channel_n for_o conveyance_n of_o this_o precious_a water_n of_o life_n for_o the_o spirit_n run_v free_a in_o the_o clear_a promise_n &_o therefore_o the_o gospel_n which_o be_v full_a of_o rich_a and_o plain_a promise_n be_v call_v the_o ministration_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o call_v by_o the_o name_n of_o spirit_n whereas_o the_o law_n of_o moses_n be_v a_o dead_a mere_a outside_n literal_a thing_n in_o comparison_n of_o it_o 2_o cor._n 3.6_o i_o say_v the_o fault_n be_v lay_v upon_o the_o covenant_n which_o yet_o be_v a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n now_o what_o other_o fault_n it_o can_v be_v then_o this_o that_o the_o lord_n do_v not_o think_v it_o gracious_a enough_o i_o can_v imagine_v and_o i_o think_v that_o be_v the_o fault_n the_o scripture_n pitch_v upon_o now_o because_o moses_n dispensation_n or_o the_o first_o covenant_n make_v with_o the_o jew_n be_v thus_o faulty_a have_v a_o covenant_n of_o work_n in_o 〈◊〉_d and_o be_v mistake_v by_o the_o jew_n to_o be_v a_o covenant_n of_o work_n it_o may_v well_o be_v call_v by_o the_o apostle_n before_o there_o be_v the_o same_o reason_n of_o the_o gospel_n its_o be_v add_v to_o the_o law_n that_o there_o be_v of_o the_o dispensation_n of_o moses_n to_o be_v add_v to_o what_o they_o know_v of_o god_n before_o a_o kill_a letter_n a_o ministration_n of_o death_n and_o condemnation_n and_o deserve_v to_o be_v abrogate_a and_o disannul_v if_o the_o lord_n will_v make_v a_o better_a clear_a more_o gracious_a and_o save_a and_o yet_o it_o can_v by_o no_o mean_n be_v conclude_v hence_o that_o it_o be_v true_o either_o in_o its_o own_o nature_n or_o in_o the_o intention_n of_o the_o lord_n who_o give_v it_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n nay_o the_o contrary_a hereunto_o be_v sufficient_o evince_v ob._n 4._o but_o yet_o there_o be_v a_o very_a considerable_a objection_n behind_o which_o be_v thus_o you_o have_v acknowledge_v that_o in_o moses_n write_n there_o be_v a_o covenant_n of_o work_n describe_v that_o st._n paul_n assert_n now_o i_o will_v add_v say_v the_o objection_n that_o it_o be_v not_o only_o there_o describe_v but_o there_o commend_v to_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n as_o a_o part_n at_o least_o if_o not_o the_o chief_a part_n of_o the_o dispensation_n by_o moses_n and_o it_o be_v give_v with_o as_o great_a authority_n and_o have_v as_o solemn_a a_o sanction_n upon_o it_o as_o any_o part_n of_o the_o law_n of_o moses_n for_o in_o that_o place_n which_o the_o apostle_n paul_n quote_v out_o of_o moses_n viz._n leu._n 18.5_o for_o the_o description_n of_o a_o legal_a righteousness_n we_o have_v these_o word_n you_o shall_v therefore_o keep_v mp_a seatute_n and_o my_o judgement_n which_o if_o a_o man_n do_v he_o shall_v live_v in_o they_o i_o be_o the_o lord_n so_o in_o the_o foregoing_a verse_n 1_o 2._o and_o the_o lord_n speak_v unto_o moses_n say_v speak_v unto_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n and_o say_v unto_o they_o i_o be_o the_o lord_n your_o god_n then_o follow_v the_o three_o verse_n wherein_o the_o majesty_n they_o be_v deliver_v with_o even_o with_o this_o addition_n three_o several_a time_n in_o the_o compass_n of_o four_o verse_n i_o be_o the_o lord_n and_o i_o be_o the_o lord_n your_o god_n this_o do_v not_o look_v like_o a_o old_a antiquate_a covenant_n make_v with_o adam_n about_o 2000_o year_n before_o and_o of_o use_n to_o he_o but_o only_o for_o the_o strst_a day_n of_o his_o creation_n i_o conclude_v therefore_o say_v the_o objector_n that_o it_o be_v a_o valid_a covenant_n and_o deliver_v with_o intention_n that_o man_n shall_v be_v justify_v by_o it_o and_o beside_o i_o add_v that_o which_o have_v great_a strength_n in_o it_o that_o even_o jesus_n christ_n himself_o repeat_v this_o covenant_n of_o work_n in_o moses_n his_o own_o word_n and_o direct_v a_o man_n to_o covenant_n of_o work_n for_o these_o two_o reason_n 1._o for_o that_o the_o ceremonial_a law_n neither_o be_v nor_o can_v be_v a_o part_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n which_o the_o moral_a law_n shall_v accept_v it_o for_o such_o unto_o justification_n which_o appear_v from_o this_o double_a demonstration_n as_o i_o may_v call_v it_o a_o priori_fw-la &_o a_o posteriori_fw-la a_o priori_fw-la for_o that_o before_o the_o law_n be_v give_v there_o be_v a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n which_o the_o law_n can_v not_o come_v in_o to_o disannul_v and_o a_o posteriori_fw-la for_o that_o the_o very_a
