so_o answerable_o we_o may_v know_v whether_o we_o be_v dead_a unto_o sin_n these_o three_o way_n first_o by_o this_o antecedent_n which_o go_v before_o it_o namely_o 5.17_o see_v these_o three_o more_o large_o in_o my_o sermon_n on_o 2_o cor._n 5.17_o if_o we_o be_v sick_a of_o sin_n if_o as_o a_o man_n surcharge_v with_o gross_a humour_n be_v never_o at_o ease_n till_o he_o have_v abate_v these_o two_o concomitant_n which_o go_v with_o it_o first_o the_o sense_n of_o sin_n must_v decay_v if_o therefore_o our_o eye_n do_v feeble_o behold_v vanity_n and_o not_o with_o that_o vigour_n and_o content_a as_o before_o if_o our_o ear_n can_v endure_v to_o hear_v of_o it_o if_o we_o fly_v from_o the_o garment_n spot_v of_o the_o flesh_n as_o from_o a_o serpent_n if_o we_o find_v no_o relish_n and_o savour_n in_o it_o but_o with_o a_o honest_a heart_n can_v say_v to_o it_o as_o to_o a_o unprofitable_a thing_n get_v thou_o hence_o then_o be_v we_o in_o a_o second_o degree_n in_o the_o death_n of_o sin_n but_o if_o second_o we_o be_v come_v to_o the_o pang_n of_o this_o death_n and_o do_v find_v that_o our_o sin_n through_o our_o loathness_n to_o forsake_v they_o have_v strive_v and_o struggle_v as_o for_o life_n have_v disturb_v the_o peace_n of_o our_o soul_n have_v sad_a the_o flesh_n as_o those_o that_o mourn_v for_o the_o death_n of_o their_o friend_n have_v comfort_v the_o spirit_n as_o those_o that_o rejoice_v at_o the_o death_n of_o enemy_n and_o so_o have_v make_v the_o pain_n of_o the_o new_a birth_n the_o great_a then_o be_v we_o a_o degree_n further_o in_o the_o death_n unto_o sin_n three_o we_o shall_v know_v it_o by_o these_o consequent_n which_o follow_v upon_o it_o to_o wit_n coldness_n and_o putrefaction_n if_o therefore_o the_o most_o cruel_a by_o nature_n so_o obedient_a to_o the_o doctrine_n of_o jesus_n christ_n that_o they_o may_v be_v alter_v and_o lead_v to_o work_n of_o mercy_n in_o such_o kind_n as_o the_o gospel_n require_v that_o so_o the_o mouth_n of_o they_o of_o gath_n and_o ashkalon_n may_v be_v stop_v and_o they_o may_v ever_o be_v ashamed_a to_o bark_v against_o we_o again_o three_o who_o be_v these_o that_o except_o against_o we_o i_o be_o sure_a we_o have_v more_o just_a cause_n to_o except_v against_o the_o popish_a work_n of_o mercy_n because_o whatsoever_o they_o do_v it_o be_v in_o pride_n and_o vainglory_n to_o merit_v a_o eternal_a estate_n their_o work_n proceed_v not_o from_o faith_n neither_o be_v they_o sanctify_v by_o faith_n because_o they_o tend_v to_o maintain_v idleness_n assurance_n of_o a_o reward_n in_o heaven_n there_o be_v many_o convince_a of_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n but_o few_o be_v convert_v and_o so_o they_o be_v not_o fill_v with_o mercy_n and_o compassion_n as_o they_o shall_v be_v and_o yet_o we_o be_v not_o to_o blame_v our_o religion_n which_o be_v merciful_a but_o such_o hard-hearted_a person_n that_o do_v not_o make_v that_o use_n of_o it_o which_o they_o shall_v but_o have_v rather_o spend_v their_o estate_n in_o garish_a pomp_n pride_n and_o prodigality_n than_o in_o relieve_v the_o saint_n of_o god_n loe_o thus_o do_v it_o still_o stand_v good_a that_o our_o religion_n rather_o than_o popery_n have_v this_o mark_n of_o mercy_n upon_o it_o notwithstanding_o these_o show_n the_o last_o ground_n which_o i_o propound_v to_o be_v consider_v from_o hence_o be_v this_o that_o pure_a religion_n will_v keep_v we_o from_o open_a and_o profess_a tainture_n this_o be_v that_o which_o the_o apostle_n impli_v when_o he_o say_v
