be_v so_o quite_o contrary_a to_o the_o very_a beginning_n of_o the_o work_n of_o grace_n not_o contrary_a to_o the_o degree_n only_o but_o to_o the_o very_a begin_n the_o main_a work_n of_o god_n at_o the_o very_a first_o in_o work_v grace_n in_o the_o soul_n be_v to_o disengage_v the_o soul_n from_o the_o creature_n it_o be_v to_o take_v it_o off_o from_o the_o earth_n and_o from_o all_o creature_n here_o below_o for_o natural_o it_o be_v true_a that_o as_o we_o be_v of_o the_o earth_n so_o we_o be_v earthly_a and_o have_v our_o spirit_n engage_v to_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o earth_n but_o then_o come_v the_o work_n of_o grace_n upon_o the_o soul_n and_o take_v it_o off_o and_o discharge_v the_o heart_n from_o the_o earth_n and_o therefore_o you_o find_v that_o christ_n lay_v in_o this_o as_o the_o first_o lesson_n that_o he_o that_o will_v be_v my_o disciple_n must_v deny_v himself_o and_o take_v up_o his_o cross_n and_o follow_v i_o as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v never_o think_v of_o be_v a_o christian_n except_o you_o will_v deny_v yourselves_o self_n what_o be_v that_o all_o natural_a contentment_n natural-self_n and_o sinful-self_n to_o be_v empty_v whole_o of_o yourselves_o and_o creature-comfort_n and_o contentment_n and_o take_v up_o my_o cross_n to_o be_v willing_a to_o suffer_v any_o thing_n in_o regard_n of_o earthly_a comfort_n to_o be_v willing_a to_o lay_v down_o all_o at_o my_o foot_n and_o to_o give_v up_o your_o interest_n in_o all_o and_o to_o take_v up_o my_o cross_n this_o be_v the_o very_a first_o beginning_n of_o christ_n bring_v disciple_n to_o himself_o then_o say_v the_o soul_n let_v i_o have_v my_o sin_n pardon_v and_o farewell_o earth_n it_o be_v heaven_n holiness_n renew_v of_o the_o image_n of_o god_n communion_n and_o union_n with_o god_n and_o live_v to_o the_o eternal_a praise_n of_o his_o name_n in_o christ_n that_o my_o heart_n be_v upon_o i_o say_v this_o in_o the_o begin_n of_o god_n work_v the_o heart_n to_o other_o thing_n in_o which_o thy_o chief_a good_a consist_v thou_o be_v make_v for_o high_a and_o better_a thing_n than_o these_o god_n have_v noble_a thought_n about_o mankind_n than_o mere_o to_o let_v he_o have_v a_o few_o contentment_n here_o in_o the_o earth_n oh_o soul_n come_v away_o and_o look_v after_o high_a thing_n here_o be_v the_o first_o work_n of_o grace_n and_o the_o soul_n answer_v unto_o this_o call_n of_o god_n and_o say_v lord_n i_o come_v and_o so_o give_v up_o its_o self_n to_o god_n to_o dispose_v of_o it_o and_o this_o be_v in_o the_o begin_n of_o the_o work_n of_o grace_n now_o how_o contrary_a be_v earthly-mindednesse_a to_o the_o work_n of_o god_n in_o bring_v grace_n into_o the_o heart_n conceive_v it_o in_o these_o three_o thing_n 1._o the_o very_a work_n of_o conversion_n it_o be_v set_v out_o in_o scripture_n by_o god_n call_v the_o soul_n out_o of_o the_o world_n who_o he_o have_v predestinate_v he_o he_o have_v call_v when_o god_n effectual_o begin_v to_o work_v upon_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o sinner_n he_o do_v cause_n a_o voice_n to_o be_v hear_v in_o the_o soul_n oh_o soul_n thou_o have_v be_v busy_v thyself_o about_o many_o thing_n but_o there_o be_v one_o thing_n necesseary_a oh_o come_v out_o of_o that_o way_n of_o thou_o that_o thou_o be_v in_o thou_o can_v never_o be_v happy_a else_o thou_o will_v be_v undo_v in_o be_v earthly_a and_o to_o have_v a_o heart_n cleave_v to_o these_o thing_n sure_o such_o a_o one_o be_v not_o as_o yet_o effectual_o call_v out_o of_o the_o world_n 2._o and_o then_o from_o thence_o follow_v upon_o the_o soul_n answer_v to_o this_o call_n the_o lord_n difingage_v the_o heart_n from_o all_o creature-comfort_n and_o teach_v the_o first_o lesson_n to_o deny_v himself_o and_o to_o take_v up_o christ_n cross_n now_o what_o be_v more_o opposite_a to_o self-denial_n and_o the_o take_n up_o of_o the_o cross_n of_o christ_n than_o earthly-mindednesse_a the_o text_n say_v here_o they_o be_v enemy_n to_o the_o cross_n of_o christ_n and_o then_o a_o three_o thing_n in_o conversion_n it_o be_v the_o resign_v up_o of_o the_o soul_n to_o god_n as_o the_o chief_a good_a the_o soul_n upon_o the_o call_n of_o god_n it_o learn_v the_o lesson_n of_o self-denial_n and_o take_v up_o the_o cross_n and_o so_o be_v disengage_v from_o the_o creature_n now_o it_o resign_v up_o itself_o to_o god_n as_o a_o infinite_a soul_n satisfy_v good_a for_o ever_o now_o you_o can_v but_o in_o the_o name_n of_o this_o see_v how_o opposite_a earthly-mindednesse_a be_v to_o it_o and_o then_o for_o the_o work_n of_o grace_n upon_o the_o heart_n after_o the_o heart_n be_v convert_v and_o turn_v to_o god_n first_o grace_n bring_v a_o new_a light_n into_o the_o soul_n a_o spiritual_a and_o divine_a light_n be_v set_v up_o in_o the_o soul_n upon_o the_o conversion_n of_o a_o sinner_n to_o god_n but_o now_o the_o earth_n you_o know_v it_o be_v the_o dark_a part_n of_o the_o world_n and_o earthly_a mindedness_n it_o cause_v darkness_n to_o be_v upon_o the_o spirit_n as_o the_o interposition_n of_o the_o earth_n between_o we_o &_o the_o sun_n it_o do_v hinder_v the_o sight_n of_o from_o heaven_n but_o now_o thou_o that_o be_v a_o earthly-minded_n man_n or_o woman_n be_v yet_o but_o a_o child_n of_o adam_n of_o the_o first_o man_n and_o so_o be_v of_o the_o earth_n earthly_a this_o be_v opposite_a to_o grace_n grace_n work_v a_o new_a creation_n in_o the_o soul_n 3._o and_o grace_n be_v of_o a_o elevate_a nature_n raise_v the_o heart_n above_o its_o self_n and_o above_o the_o creature_n yea_o above_o the_o world_n in_o some_o respect_n above_o angel_n themselves_o above_o principality_n and_o power_n above_o all_o create_a thing_n grace_n be_v of_o a_o raise_n be_v true_a of_o many_o man_n in_o this_o case_n that_o i_o be_o speak_v of_o their_o very_a soul_n do_v cleave_v to_o the_o dust_n their_o spirit_n be_v mix_v with_o the_o earth_n and_o therefore_o they_o be_v drossy_a though_o it_o may_v be_v they_o have_v some_o good_a common_a gift_n some_o good_a natural_a part_n and_o some_o work_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n upon_o they_o yet_o their_o be_v say_v of_o samson_n his_o soul_n do_v cleave_v to_o dalilab_v talk_v what_o you_o will_v against_o that_o woman_n or_o of_o the_o excellency_n of_o any_o other_o woman_n yet_o his_o soul_n cleave_v to_o that_o woman_n so_o it_o be_v in_o a_o earthly_a mind_a man_n let_v what_o will_v be_v say_v against_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o earth_n or_o what_o can_v be_v say_v for_o the_o set_n forth_o of_o the_o excellency_n of_o the_o thing_n of_o heaven_n yet_o his_o soul_n cleave_v to_o the_o earth_n as_o the_o serpent_n belly_n do_v to_o the_o dust_n of_o the_o ground_n that_o be_v a_o earthly_a mind_a man_n four_o a_o earthly_a mind_a man_n it_o on_o who_o heart_n be_v fill_v with_o distract_n care_v about_o the_o earth_n what_o he_o shall_v eat_v and_o drink_v and_o what_o he_o shall_v put_v on_o how_o he_o shall_v provide_v for_o himself_o and_o his_o family_n and_o what_o shall_v become_v of_o he_o at_o such_o a_o time_n though_o he_o be_v well_o now_o yet_o what_o may_v become_v of_o he_o afterward_o when_o the_o heart_n be_v fill_v with_o distract_n care_v about_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o earth_n so_o far_o as_o the_o heart_n have_v these_o prevail_a over_o it_o so_o far_o such_o a_o man_n may_v be_v judge_v to_o be_v earthly_a there_o be_v two_o thing_n that_o do_v cause_n distrate_v care_n about_o any_o business_n the_o first_o be_v a_o apprehension_n of_o some_o very_a great_a evil_n in_o case_n i_o shall_v be_v disappoint_v i_o look_v upon_o my_o disappointment_n in_o such_o a_o thing_n as_o a_o most_o intolerable_a evil_n to_o i_o if_o i_o shall_v be_v disappoint_v i_o know_v not_o what_o in_o the_o world_n to_o do_v that_o be_v the_o first_o the_o second_o be_v a_o uncertainty_n in_o the_o mean_n for_o the_o preventment_n of_o this_o disappointment_n when_o as_o i_o look_v upon_o disappointment_n as_o a_o very_a great_a evil_n so_o those_o mean_n that_o shall_v prevent_v and_o help_v i_o against_o disappointment_n i_o can_v trust_v to_o i_o look_v upon_o they_o as_o too_o weak_a to_o help_v i_o notwithstanding_o all_o such_o mean_n i_o may_v yet_o be_v desappoint_v this_o cause_n distract_n thought_n so_o it_o be_v in_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o earth_n a_o earthly_a mind_a man_n or_o woman_n have_v his_o thought_n fill_v with_o distract_n care_v about_o the_o world_n that_o be_v thus_o first_o they_o looking_z upon_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n as_o such_o great_a thing_n they_o conceive_v if_o they_o shall_v be_v disappoint_v they_o shall_v be_v undo_v they_o look_v upon_o it_o as_o such_o a_o fearful_a unsufferable_a evil_n to_o be_v deprive_v of_o their_o estate_n and_o outward_a comfort_n in_o this_o world_n second_o they_o do_v look_v upon_o the_o mean_n of_o provision_n for_o themselves_o and_o family_n as_o have_v any_o certainty_n in_o it_o which_o be_v a_o main_a thing_n to_o be_v consider_v of_o as_o for_o outward_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n they_o find_v by_o experience_n there_o be_v uncertainty_n in_o they_o and_o then_o for_o any_o promse_n that_o there_o be_v in_o scripture_n that_o god_n will_v provide_v for_o they_o and_o their_o family_n alas_o that_o they_o dare_v not_o trust_v to_o that_o be_v a_o thing_n that_o of_o all_o mean_n they_o think_v to_o be_v the_o weak_a lord_n have_v mercy_n upon_o they_o say_v they_o if_o they_o have_v nothing_o else_o to_o trust_v to_o but_o only_o a_o word_n in_o scripture_n they_o think_v themselves_o most_o miserable_a and_o wretched_a but_o now_o it_o will_v be_v otherwise_o with_o the_o soul_n if_o it_o be_v not_o earthly_a mind_v it_o will_v not_o be_v at_o any_o great_a pause_n how_o thing_n do_v fall_v out_o here_o in_o the_o matter_n of_o the_o world_n it_o be_v true_a perhaps_o i_o may_v miscarry_v in_o such_o a_o business_n and_o my_o estate_n may_v be_v take_v from_o i_o by_o the_o chaldaean_n or_o sabean_o as_o job_n be_v but_o i_o shall_v not_o be_v undo_v my_o happiness_n be_v not_o go_v i_o shall_v have_v that_o that_o will_v comfort_v i_o when_o all_o that_o be_v go_v suppose_v the_o worst_a yet_o this_o will_v not_o undo_v i_o indeed_o a_o man_n that_o send_v abroad_o in_o a_o venture_n all_o his_o whole_a estate_n he_o be_v very_o solicitous_a because_o if_o there_o be_v ill_a news_n about_o it_o he_o be_v undo_v but_o another_o man_n that_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o riches_n house_n and_o land_n and_o a_o stock_n at_o home_n to_o maintain_v he_o and_o his_o family_n if_o there_o come_v such_o ill_a news_n i_o have_v a_o stock_n to_o live_v on_o he_o think_v therefore_o he_o be_v not_o so_o much_o solicitous_a so_o a_o worldly_a man_n all_o his_o stock_n be_v in_o the_o earth_n there_o be_v his_o only_a portion_n and_o if_o he_o miscarry_v there_o he_o be_v undo_v but_o a_o godly_a man_n though_o he_o have_v the_o thing_n of_o the_o earth_n yet_o he_o have_v something_o else_o treasure_n in_o heaven_n to_o rest_v upon_o beside_o the_o earth_n and_o therefore_o he_o be_v not_o so_o solicitous_a and_o then_o for_o the_o second_o the_o uncertainty_n of_o mean_n and_o help_n if_o a_o godly_a man_n look_v upon_o outward_a cause_n he_o see_v all_o be_v uncertain_a but_o he_o have_v a_o promise_n to_o rest_v upon_o i_o will_v never_o leave_v you_o nor_o forsake_v you_o cast_v your_o care_n upon_o i_o for_o i_o care_v for_o you_o and_o this_o heart_n and_o endeavour_n of_o his_o life_n be_v about_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o earth_n he_o make_v it_o his_o great_a business_n and_o the_o strong_a endeavour_n of_o his_o spirit_n be_v exercise_v in_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o earth_n he_o eager_o and_o greedy_o work_v with_o the_o strong_a intention_n about_o these_o thing_n his_o whole_a soul_n the_o whole_a man_n be_v lay_v out_o about_o the_o world_n it_o be_v the_o adequate_a object_n of_o his_o soul_n you_o will_v say_v other_o man_n they_o be_v busy_a in_o their_o calling_n as_o well_o as_o these_o that_o you_o account_v earthly_a mind_a man_n i_o but_o mark_v they_o be_v busy_a about_o their_o calling_n in_o obedience_n to_o god_n and_o for_o outward_a thing_n set_v aside_o their_o obedience_n to_o god_n then_o i_o say_v all_o the_o thing_n that_o they_o busy_a themselves_o about_o in_o the_o world_n be_v it_o not_o under_o that_o consideration_n that_o they_o be_v obey_v god_n in_o it_o they_o will_v not_o be_v adequate_a object_n for_o their_o soul_n i_o mean_v by_o a_o adequate_a object_n that_o that_o be_v sufficient_a to_o take_v up_o the_o whole_a strength_n of_o the_o soul_n to_o lay_v it_o out_o full_o i_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o work_n of_o creation_n that_o god_n have_v make_v the_o earth_n be_v the_o mean_a it_o be_v the_o base_a and_o low_a thing_n and_o have_v the_o least_o beauty_n in_o it_o in_o its_o self_n and_o it_o be_v the_o most_o dull_a and_o mean_a element_n of_o all_o and_o to_o make_v earthly_a thing_n to_o be_v a_o god_n to_o you_o this_o be_v most_o vile_a object_n you_o will_v say_v for_o this_o idolatry_n what_o be_v there_o in_o it_o answ_n there_o be_v two_o particular_n to_o open_a the_o evil_a of_o idolatry_n or_o earthly-mindednesse_a first_o the_o evil_a of_o your_o preach_v christ_n and_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n alone_o and_o christian_a religion_n in_o the_o purity_n of_o it_o be_v that_o that_o be_v not_o suitable_a to_o their_o carnal_a heart_n and_o therefore_o they_o be_v enemy_n to_o it_o oh_o earthly-mindednesse_a do_v make_v we_o enemy_n to_o spiritual_a thing_n where_o have_v you_o great_a enemy_n unto_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n unto_o spiritual_a thing_n unto_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n as_o we_o have_v occasion_n to_o hint_n and_o to_o the_o work_n of_o god_n grace_n upon_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n and_o woman_n no_o great_a enemy_n unto_o these_o thing_n than_o earthly_a mind_a man_n man_n that_o savour_v the_o thing_n of_o the_o earth_n that_o can_v go_v up_o and_o down_o and_o care_v not_o if_o they_o can_v but_o load_v themselves_o with_o thick_a clay_n grow_v rich_a in_o the_o world_n and_o fare_v delicious_o every_o day_n with_o dives_n make_v provision_n for_o the_o flesh_n to_o fulfil_v the_o lust_n thereof_o there_o be_v a_o antipathy_n in_o their_o spirit_n against_o jesus_n christ_n and_o all_o goodness_n the_o four_o evil_n then_o four_o there_o be_v scarce_o any_o disposition_n more_o the_o greek_a language_n be_v not_o a_o earthly_a one_o according_a to_o the_o usual_a etymology_n give_v of_o it_o now_o grace_v it_o make_v the_o soul_n holy_a it_o sanctify_v the_o soul_n it_o set_v apart_o the_o soul_n for_o god_n and_o dedicate_v and_o consecrate_v the_o soul_n to_o god_n and_o therefore_o you_o see_v that_o it_o be_v opposite_a to_o the_o work_n of_o god_n in_o bring_v grace_n into_o the_o soul_n and_o to_o the_o work_n of_o grace_n and_o the_o power_n of_o godliness_n in_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n this_o be_v the_o great_a evil_n of_o earthly_a mindedness_n the_o five_o evil._n but_o five_o for_o the_o discovery_n of_o the_o great_a evil_n that_o there_o be_v in_o earthly-mindedness_a it_o put_v man_n upon_o very_o great_a temptation_n and_o for_o that_o we_o need_v no_o other_o scripture_n than_o that_o in_o the_o 1_o of_o tim._n 6._o 9_o say_v the_o apostle_n there_o but_o they_o that_o will_v be_v rich_a fall_v into_o temptation_n and_o a_o snare_n a_o snare_n as_o the_o apostle_n here_o speak_v of_o but_o when_o the_o heart_n be_v set_v upon_o it_o that_o it_o needs_o must_v have_v a_o estate_n whatsoever_o come_v on_o it_o now_o they_o that_o will_v be_v so_o they_o say_v the_o apostle_n fall_v into_o temptation_n and_o a_o snare_n there_o be_v dangerous_a temptation_n in_o follow_v after_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o earth_n and_o there_o be_v a_o snare_n in_o they_o that_o you_o do_v not_o think_v of_o for_o you_o think_v only_o of_o the_o bravery_n of_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o earth_n how_o sumptuous_o you_o shall_v live_v and_o how_o fine_a you_o shall_v be_v in_o your_o house_n and_o clothes_n and_o what_o table_n you_o may_v keep_v you_o only_o think_v of_o these_o thing_n that_o may_v give_v the_o flesh_n contentment_n but_o you_o do_v not_o think_v of_o the_o temptation_n and_o the_o snare_n that_o be_v in_o they_o and_o those_o who_o heart_n be_v set_v upon_o these_o thing_n they_o fall_v into_o the_o snare_n nay_o temptation_n those_o that_o be_v earthly-minded_n have_v great_a temptation_n to_o shift_v up_o and_o down_o to_o strain_v their_o conscience_n for_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o earth_n for_o so_o it_o be_v that_o while_o we_o live_v in_o this_o world_n god_n have_v make_v the_o thing_n of_o the_o earth_n to_o be_v as_o thorn_n and_o so_o they_o be_v compare_v in_o scripture_n and_o it_o be_v hard_a for_o one_o to_o meddle_v with_o thorn_n without_o prick_v his_o finger_n they_o be_v as_o brier_n &_o its_o hard_a for_o the_o sheep_n ro_o get_v among_o they_o but_o she_o will_v lose_v some_o of_o her_o wool_n and_o so_o it_o be_v hard_a for_o the_o heart_n to_o be_v busy_a about_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o earth_n but_o it_o will_v be_v prick_v and_o lose_v some_o of_o its_o fleece_n in_o will_v fall_v into_o temptation_n and_o a_o snare_n and_o be_v catch_v oh_o how_o many_o man_n and_o woman_n that_o have_v enlighten_v conscience_n &_o they_o think_v sometime_o that_o they_o will_v not_o for_o all_o the_o world_n do_v any_o thing_n against_o their_o conscience_n though_o they_o may_v gain_v all_o the_o glory_n and_o riches_n under_o heaven_n well_o but_o yet_o their_o heart_n be_v earthly_a when_o it_o come_v to_o some_o particular_a how_o ready_a be_v they_o at_o least_o to_o strain_v conscience_n and_o not_o to_o attend_v to_o the_o voice_n of_o conscience_n and_o be_v willing_a that_o conscience_n shall_v have_v its_o mouth_n stop_v for_o the_o time_n indeed_o if_o their_o conscience_n do_v plain_o tell_v they_o that_o this_o thing_n be_v absolute_o sin_n against_o god_n perhaps_o they_o will_v not_o do_v it_o but_o that_o be_v not_o the_o snare_n for_o it_o be_v no_o snare_n when_o i_o see_v the_o danger_n before_o i_o here_o be_v a_o deep_a pit_n and_o if_o i_o step_v a_o step_n further_o i_o fall_v into_o it_o this_o be_v no_o snare_n but_o now_o there_o be_v some_o that_o be_v not_o catch_v so_o by_o a_o pit_n that_o be_v open_a but_o the_o devil_n do_v lay_v upon_o the_o pit_n it_o may_v some_o green_a grass_n so_o that_o they_o shall_v not_o perceive_v or_o very_o hardly_o perceive_v the_o danger_n thus_o such_o as_o have_v earthly_a heart_n they_o fall_v into_o a_o snare_n and_o temptation_n they_o be_v put_v upon_o strain_v of_o conscience_n and_o wring_v it_o as_o much_o as_o may_v be_v and_o many_o shift_n that_o they_o be_v put_v too_o oh_o a_o man_n when_o once_o he_o be_v get_v into_o a_o earthly_a business_n he_o know_v not_o how_o in_o the_o world_n to_o bear_v it_o if_o he_o be_v cross_v in_o it_o it_o may_v be_v i_o have_v go_v thus_o far_o and_o i_o have_v very_o great_a hope_n that_o i_o shall_v succeed_v in_o it_o only_o there_o be_v one_o stop_v now_o for_o he_o to_o think_v that_o for_o this_o one_o stop_n i_o be_o like_a to_o lose_v all_o oh_o it_o go_v to_o his_o heart_n oh_o but_o now_o if_o you_o will_v but_o strain_v conscience_n a_o little_a you_o may_v get_v over_o it_o present_o a_o earthly-man_n will_v strain_v hard_o but_o he_o will_v get_v over_o it_o whereas_o now_o be_v the_o heart_n take_v off_o from_o the_o earth_n though_o such_o a_o man_n have_v go_v on_o never_o so_o far_o in_o a_o business_n if_o there_o come_v a_o stop_n in_o a_o matter_n of_o conscience_n yea_o if_o it_o be_v but_o a_o doubt_n that_o such_o a_o thing_n be_v sin_n it_o be_v enough_o to_o stop_v he_o a_o mere_a doubt_n lest_o he_o shall_v sin_n will_v be_v enough_o for_o to_o make_v he_o say_v let_v the_o business_n fall_v if_o it_o will_v there_o may_v be_v a_o snare_n in_o this_o and_o i_o see_v some_o cause_n to_o doubt_v now_o if_o the_o heart_n be_v spiritual_a it_o will_v be_v take_v off_o but_o a_o earthly_a mind_n will_v go_v through_o very_a many_o dreadful_a thing_n and_o do_v not_o much_o trouble_v himself_o and_o so_o do_v ensnare_v himself_o exceed_o that_o he_o may_v get_v a_o estate_n or_o preserve_v it_o when_o once_o he_o have_v get_v it_o that_o be_v the_o five_o thing_n the_o six_o evil._n the_o six_o thing_n wherein_o the_o danger_n of_o earthly-mindednes_a consist_v be_v this_o that_o it_o be_v one_o of_o the_o great_a hindrance_n in_o the_o world_n to_o profit_v by_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n oh_o many_o of_o you_o can_v but_o be_v convince_v in_o your_o conscience_n that_o you_o have_v not_o profit_v by_o the_o word_n and_o sometime_o you_o will_v complain_v of_o the_o want_n of_o profit_v under_o the_o mean_n oh_o that_o you_o have_v but_o heart_n to_o look_v into_o the_o cause_n of_o it_o from_o whence_o it_o be_v that_o you_o profit_v so_o little_a it_o will_v appear_v to_o come_v from_o your_o earthly-mindedness_a you_o bring_v a_o heart_n full_a of_o the_o world_n full_a of_o dross_n with_o you_o no_o marvel_n though_o you_o do_v not_o see_v those_o spiritual_a and_o heavenly_a thing_n that_o be_v in_o the_o word_n when_o as_o there_o be_v so_o much_o dross_n in_o your_o eye_n you_o know_v traveler_n in_o the_o summer_n time_n travel_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o dust_n
and_o in_o company_n they_o have_v not_o that_o freedom_n of_o their_o eye_n to_o see_v thing_n as_o at_o another_o time_n oh_o many_o man_n come_v to_o the_o word_n with_o their_o thik_a clay_n &_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o filth_n that_o do_v clam_n up_o their_o very_a eye_n and_o dead_a their_o heart_n in_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n you_o know_v what_o christ_n say_v to_o martha_n when_o mary_n be_v sit_v at_o christ_n foot_n and_o hear_v his_o word_n but_o martha_n be_v cumber_v with_o many_o thing_n so_o it_o be_v many_o time_n with_o those_o that_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n though_o they_o be_v in_o the_o presence_n of_o christ_n and_o have_v the_o sound_n of_o the_o word_n in_o their_o ear_n yet_o their_o heart_n be_v cumber_v about_o many_o thing_n there_o be_v a_o great_a noise_n in_o their_o heart_n they_o be_v busy_v in_o the_o world_n even_o while_o they_o be_v hear_v of_o the_o word_n as_o you_o find_v it_o in_o the_o 33._o of_o ezek._n 31._o ver_fw-la there_o be_v a_o notable_a description_n i_o fear_v it_o may_v be_v of_o many_o of_o you_o and_o they_o come_v unto_o thou_o say_v the_o lord_n to_o the_o prophet_n as_o the_o people_n come_v and_o they_o sit_v before_o thou_o as_o my_o people_n and_o they_o hear_v thy_o word_n but_o they_o will_v not_o do_v they_o for_o with_o their_o mouth_n they_o show_v much_o love_n but_o their_o heart_n commend_v the_o sermon_n it_o may_v be_v they_o will_v say_v he_o be_v a_o excellent_a preacher_n it_o be_v a_o very_a good_a sermon_n that_o we_o hear_v this_o day_n they_o will_v show_v love_n with_o their_o mouth_n but_o yet_o their_o heart_n go_v after_o their_o covetousness_n for_o all_o that_o they_o hear_v a_o man_n speak_v fine_a thing_n and_o bring_v excellent_a expression_n for_o this_o which_o show_v it_o clear_o in_o the_o 13._o of_o matt._n 22._o ver_fw-la you_o know_v the_o several_a sort_n of_o ground_n that_o have_v the_o seed_n of_o the_o word_n sow_v into_o they_o but_o there_o be_v but_o one_o of_o they_o that_o be_v good_a and_o faithful_a and_o among_o other_o there_o be_v the_o thorny_a ground_n he_o also_o that_o receive_a seed_n among_o the_o thorn_n be_v he_o that_o hear_v the_o word_n and_o the_o care_n of_o this_o world_n and_o the_o deceitfulness_n of_o riches_n choke_v the_o word_n and_o it_o become_v unfruitful_a i_o beseech_v you_o observe_v it_o these_o that_o our_o saviour_n speak_v of_o here_o in_o this_o parable_n that_o get_v no_o benefit_n by_o the_o word_n be_v not_o man_n that_o live_v lewd_o your_o drunkard_n swearer_n and_o whoremaster_n but_o those_o that_o have_v earthly_a heart_n it_o be_v say_v the_o deceitfulness_n of_o riches_n the_o thing_n of_o the_o earth_n do_v not_o hinder_v in_o a_o open_a way_n for_o thousand_o of_o man_n that_o have_v earthly_a heart_n they_o do_v not_o know_v that_o they_o have_v earthly_a heart_n no_o it_o be_v the_o deceitfulness_n of_o riches_n and_o it_o choke_v the_o word_n it_o may_v be_v just_a when_o they_o be_v in_o hear_v of_o the_o word_n it_o do_v affect_v they_o oh_o they_o think_v it_o be_v sweet_a and_o they_o will_v remember_v it_o but_o the_o deceitfulness_n of_o riches_n and_o the_o care_n of_o this_o world_n choke_v the_o word_n when_o they_o come_v they_o have_v business_n about_o the_o world_n and_o their_o house_n and_o garden_n and_o come_n in_o and_o full_a table_n and_o all_o the_o delight_n that_o they_o have_v in_o the_o world_n come_v and_o possess_v the_o heart_n that_o the_o word_n be_v choke_v it_o can_v get_v down_o into_o the_o soul_n to_o sink_v in_o there_o and_o so_o to_o prevail_v in_o the_o soul_n to_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n oh_o the_o word_n be_v choke_v oh_o many_o of_o you_o come_v here_o three_o time_n on_o the_o lord_n day_n and_o have_v precious_a seed_n sow_v all_o those_o time_n and_o yet_o oh_o how_o it_o be_v choke_v through_o the_o care_n of_o this_o world_n and_o through_o the_o deceitfulness_n of_o in_o the_o word_n they_o have_v lose_v the_o relish_n of_o the_o word_n it_o be_v not_o now_o sweet_a to_o they_o as_o former_o it_o have_v be_v oh_o many_o example_n there_o have_v be_v this_o way_n that_o be_v the_o great_a evil_n of_o earthly-mindednesse_a that_o it_o do_v hinder_v the_o great_a benefit_n of_o the_o word_n and_o there_o be_v much_o evil_n in_o this_o if_o you_o have_v heart_n to_o receive_v what_o be_v deliver_v your_o heart_n will_v tremble_v at_o the_o thought_n of_o this_o oh_o lord_n what_o shall_v i_o be_v hinder_v from_o profit_v by_o this_o word_n it_o be_v the_o great_a blessing_n of_o god_n to_o the_o world_n it_o be_v that_o that_o must_v save_v my_o soul_n there_o be_v more_o worth_n in_o it_o than_o ten_o thousand_o world_n whatsoever_o shall_v hinder_v as_o the_o forerunner_n of_o that_o glorious_a communion_n that_o you_o shall_v enjoy_v with_o he_o together_o with_o the_o saint_n and_o angel_n to_o all_o eternity_n and_o thus_o we_o have_v give_v
