himself_o unto_o it_o and_o beside_o they_o hinder_v the_o soul_n in_o its_o motion_n and_o communication_n of_o itself_o to_o christ_n i_o be_o so_o trouble_v say_v the_o psalmist_n that_o i_o can_v of_o spiritual_a life_n so_o he_o must_v be_v lead_v by_o the_o spirit_n if_o god_n do_v not_o excite_v the_o grace_n bestow_v on_o he_o it_o will_v be_v choke_v by_o that_o body_n of_o death_n that_o lust_n and_o corruption_n which_o be_v in_o the_o best_a man_n heart_n what_o can_v the_o creature_n do_v when_o the_o holy_a spirit_n have_v quicken_v his_o habit_n of_o grace_n he_o can_v act_v and_o exercise_v they_o and_o put_v forth_o spiritual_a act_n but_o do_v he_o no_o more_o need_v the_o influence_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n yes_o without_o christ_n he_o can_v do_v nothing_o he_o himself_o he_o can_v use_v or_o exercise_v they_o but_o let_v he_o who_o glori_v glory_n in_o this_o that_o to_o he_o christ_n be_v all_o in_o all_o that_o he_o live_v he_o act_v and_o bring_v a_o good_a action_n to_o a_o issue_n but_o yet_o not_o he_o but_o christ_n that_o live_v in_o he_o act_v with_o he_o and_o work_v in_o he_o what_o he_o accept_v from_o he_o it_o be_v christ_n who_o lay_v case_n and_o so_o shâ—â—_n up_o this_o discourse_n 1._o my_o argument_n shall_v be_v draw_v from_o the_o high_a concern_v of_o the_o soul_n in_o its_o spikenard_n send_v forth_o its_o smell_n every_o soul_n be_v concern_v in_o it_o three_o way_n 1._o in_o point_n of_o duty_n as_o god_n thereby_o be_v glorify_v 2._o in_o point_n of_o comfort_n as_o it_o will_v evidence_n its_o spikenard_n to_o be_v such_o indeed_o 3._o in_o point_n of_o honour_n as_o it_o bring_v the_o soul_n to_o a_o repute_n in_o the_o world_n 1._o i_o say_v first_o in_o point_n of_o duty_n as_o god_n be_v thereby_o glorify_v for_o this_o cause_n we_o be_v bear_v for_o this_o cause_n be_v every_o man_n come_v into_o the_o world_n that_o he_o may_v bring_v honour_n and_o glory_n to_o his_o great_a creator_n herein_o say_v our_o saviour_n john_n 15._o be_v my_o father_n glorify_v if_o you_o bring_v forth_o mach_v fruit_n and_o as_o the_o lord_n be_v glorify_v by_o the_o vigorous_a exercise_n of_o its_o grace_n so_o be_v he_o also_o honour_v by_o the_o predication_n of_o his_o grace_n by_o the_o sweet_a smell_n which_o our_o habit_n and_o exercise_n of_o grace_n have_v in_o the_o world_n that_o they_o may_v see_v your_o good_a work_n say_v our_o saviour_n matth._n 5._o and_o glorify_v your_o father_n which_o be_v in_o heaven_n that_o they_o may_v see_v your_o good_a work_n say_v the_o apostle_n and_o glorify_v god_n in_o the_o day_n of_o their_o visitation_n no_o man_n so_o glorify_v god_n as_o he_o who_o vigorous_o exercise_v his_o habit_n of_o grace_n the_o barren_a field_n be_v not_o that_o field_n which_o credit_v the_o husbandman_n the_o barren_a and_o unfruitful_a soul_n be_v not_o that_o soul_n which_o bring_v honour_n and_o glory_n to_o god_n it_o be_v the_o fruitful_a soul_n who_o smell_n be_v like_o the_o smell_n of_o a_o field_n which_o the_o lord_n have_v bless_v that_o bring_v honour_n to_o god_n and_o so_o eminent_o serve_v the_o great_a end_n of_o his_o creation_n 2._o the_o soul_n be_v not_o only_o concern_v in_o it_o in_o point_n of_o duty_n but_o also_o as_o to_o its_o peace_n and_o comfort_n indeed_o it_o can_v be_v but_o that_o comfort_n shall_v result_v from_o the_o soul_n performance_n of_o its_o duty_n for_o the_o fruit_n of_o righteousness_n shall_v be_v peace_n but_o yet_o first_o as_o he_o or_o she_o that_o have_v a_o box_n of_o spikenard_n or_o any_o christian_n grace_n that_o give_v he_o a_o name_n and_o honour_n a_o repute_n before_o man_n the_o world_n take_v no_o notice_n of_o our_o habit_n of_o grace_n while_o they_o lie_v dormant_a in_o the_o soul_n but_o when_o they_o show_v themselves_o in_o our_o conversation_n in_o the_o exercise_n of_o faith_n humility_n patience_n meekness_n obedience_n than_o have_v a_o christian_a honour_n before_o man_n thus_o you_o see_v how_o a_o christian_a be_v concern_v to_o have_v his_o spikenard_n send_v forth_o the_o smell_n thereof_o now_o see_v so_o much_o depend_v upon_o this_o that_o a_o
