An ansvvere to a certaine treatise of the crosse in baptisme. Intituled A short treatise of the crosse in baptisme contracted into this syllogisme. No humane ordinance becomming an idoll may lawfully be vsed in the service of God. But the signe of the crosse, being an humane ordinance is become an idoll. Ergo: the signe of the crosse, may not lawfully bee vsed in the service of God. VVherein not only the weaknesse of the syllogisme it selfe, but also of the grounds and proofes thereof, are plainely discovered. By L.H. Doct. of Divinitie.

dedication_n we_o testify_v and_o declare_v our_o love_n duty_n &_o affection_n towards_o he_o &_o appoint_v the_o book_n so_o dedicate_v to_o be_v a_o manifest_a sign_n token_n proof_n argument_n and_o declaration_n of_o our_o love_n the_o word_n dedicate_v therefore_o be_v ecclesiastical_a and_o very_o frequent_a in_o this_o signification_n it_o be_v think_v fit_a to_o be_v retain_v in_o this_o matter_n rather_o than_o to_o take_v in_o a_o word_n more_o strange_a &_o nothing_o so_o significant_a especial_o consider_v that_o there_o be_v many_o word_n and_o sentence_n in_o that_o canon_n both_o affirmative_a and_o negative_a very_o sufficient_a to_o declare_v and_o make_v manifest_a unto_o all_o reasonable_a man_n that_o the_o church_n of_o england_n do_v not_o attribute_v any_o sanctifi_n or_o consecrate_v of_o the_o child_n to_o the_o service_n of_o christ_n unto_o any_o virtue_n grace_n or_o power_n of_o or_o in_o the_o sign_n of_o the_o cross_n three_o though_o
