speak_v of_o god_n ordinance_n and_o the_o good_a use_n of_o ruler_n in_o regard_n whereof_o there_o be_v conscience_n to_o be_v make_v of_o subjection_n to_o the_o magistrate_n tim._n let_v we_o now_o hear_v what_o doctrine_n arise_v from_o the_o word_n thus_o open_v silas_n that_o to_o give_v subjection_n to_o ruler_n be_v no_o indifferent_a thing_n to_o be_v do_v at_o our_o pleasure_n as_o a_o thing_n at_o our_o own_o election_n we_o be_v bind_v to_o be_v subject_a as_o either_o we_o will_v escape_v punishment_n or_o keep_v our_o conscience_n unto_o godward_o unspotted_a if_o we_o be_v not_o subject_a we_o incur_v god_n wrath_n we_o make_v shipwreck_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n two_o of_o the_o great_a evil_n and_o therefore_o we_o must_v needs_o be_v subject_a by_o which_o mean_n we_o shall_v enjoy_v god_n favour_n and_o the_o peace_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n which_o be_v two_o of_o the_o chief_a good_a thing_n second_o be_v we_o sure_a to_o avoid_v both_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n and_o the_o punishment_n of_o the_o ruler_n yet_o we_o ought_v to_o be_v subject_a unto_o they_o that_o we_o may_v preserve_v a_o uncorrupt_a conscience_n which_o be_v a_o far_o great_a benefit_n then_o to_o avoid_v corporal_a pain_n three_o our_o external_a obedience_n be_v not_o sufficient_a unless_o it_o be_v join_v with_o subjection_n of_o conscience_n not_o to_o speak_v evil_a with_o our_o tongue_n nor_o with_o our_o hand_n to_o resist_v the_o magistrate_n be_v then_o a_o christian_a action_n when_o in_o our_o conscience_n we_o reverence_v ruler_n as_o this_o reprove_v such_o people_n that_o be_v subject_a not_o in_o singleness_n of_o heart_n but_o with_o eye-subiection_n so_o it_o exhort_v we_o in_o perform_v subjection_n not_o to_o set_v our_o member_n a-work_o only_o but_o to_o do_v our_o duty_n to_o superior_n of_o conscience_n to_o god_n otherwise_o there_o may_v be_v fruit_n of_o our_o subjection_n unto_o ruler_n but_o none_o to_o ourselves_o before_o god_n tim._n but_o may_v it_o be_v right_o collect_v from_o this_o text_n that_o the_o doubt_n law_n of_o man_n do_v as_o true_o absolute_o and_o 〈◊〉_d bind_v our_o conscience_n as_o do_v the_o law_n of_o god_n silas_n no_o very_o this_o be_v the_o prerogative_n of_o god_n that_o solution_n he_o be_v alone_o the_o lawgiver_n to_o the_o conscience_n jam._n 2._o there_o be_v one_o lawgiver_n even_o god_n god_n alone_o be_v the_o lord_n of_o the_o conscience_n 1._o for_o he_o make_v it_o 2._o he_o govern_v it_o 3._o &_o he_o alone_o be_v able_a to_o save_v or_o destroy_v it_o for_o breach_n of_o his_o law_n and_o therefore_o his_o law_n have_v absolute_a and_o proper_a power_n to_o bind_v the_o conscience_n of_o such_o as_o break_v they_o to_o sin_n and_o damnation_n whereas_o man_n law_n do_v bind_v our_o conscience_n it_o be_v not_o through_o any_o power_n of_o themselves_o but_o by_o virtue_n of_o god_n law_n command_v we_o to_o be_v subject_a unto_o they_o and_o of_o the_o thing_n command_v be_v agreeable_a to_o divine_a law_n second_o if_o man_n law_n shall_v proper_o bind_v as_o they_o be_v man_v than_o the_o midwife_n disobey_v pharaoh_n exod._n 1._o and_o the_o three_o hebrews_n disobey_v 〈◊〉_d about_o fall_v down_o to_o the_o image_n dan._n 3._o have_v sin_v against_o conscience_n whereas_o their_o example_n be_v in_o scripture_n commend_v for_o our_o imitation_n also_o then_o peter_n james_n and_o john_n have_v not_o give_v a_o sound_a answer_n unto_o the_o ruler_n forbid_v they_o to_o preach_v say_v it_o be_v better_a to_o obey_v god_n then_o man_n three_o both_o the_o minister_n and_o the_o people_n of_o christ_n shall_v be_v equal_o bind_v to_o study_v humane_a law_n as_o divine_a which_o be_v a_o absurd_a thing_n also_o then_o humane_a law_n shall_v be_v as_o perfect_a as_o divine_v whereunto_o as_o nothing_o be_v to_o be_v add_v so_o nothing_o be_v to_o be_v take_v therefrom_o last_o there_o be_v no_o tribunal_n seat_n save_v that_o of_o god_n in_o heaven_n high_a and_o great_a than_o that_o tribunal_n which_o be_v set_v up_o in_o our_o conscience_n on_o earth_n if_o the_o law_n of_o man_n as_o it_o be_v of_o
