estrange_v from_o he_o by_o sin_n be_v very_o right_o esteem_v dead_a now_o we_o be_v to_o note_v the_o end_n of_o this_o purgation_n to_o wit_n that_o we_o shall_v serve_v the_o live_a god_n for_o although_o we_o be_v wash_v by_o christ_n christ_n nothing_o we_o do_v be_v acceptable_a in_o god_n sight_n till_o we_o be_v purge_v by_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n yet_o it_o be_v not_o that_o we_o shall_v by_o and_o by_o go_v wallow_v ourselves_o afresh_o in_o our_o dung_n but_o that_o our_o purity_n may_v serve_v to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n moreover_o the_o apostle_n hereby_o teach_v we_o that_o nothing_o proceed_v from_o we_o which_o can_v be_v acceptable_a unto_o god_n till_o we_o be_v purge_v by_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n for_o see_v we_o be_v all_o of_o we_o enemy_n of_o god_n before_o we_o be_v reconcile_v he_o must_v in_o his_o justice_n hate_v all_o our_o work_n the_o beginning_n therefore_o of_o the_o true_a and_o lawful_a service_n of_o god_n be_v reconciliation_n the_o true_a and_o only_a mediator_n he_o also_o touch_v the_o virtue_n &_o efficacy_n of_o his_o death_n when_o he_o say_v that_o the_o price_n be_v pay_v for_o sin_n which_o can_v not_o be_v purge_v perpetual_a anguish_n of_o conscience_n that_o rest_n only_o in_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o la_o contrariwise_o when_o we_o be_v once_o come_v to_o christ_n nothing_o remain_v that_o may_v torment_v we_o because_o in_o he_o we_o find_v and_o obtain_v full_a and_o perfect_a redemption_n thus_o then_o by_o these_o word_n he_o show_v the_o weakness_n of_o the_o law_n to_o the_o end_n the_o jew_n shall_v no_o long_o rest_v in_o it_o and_o withal_o teach_v they_o to_o keep_v themselves_o close_o to_o christ_n because_o in_o he_o be_v to_o be_v find_v whatsoever_o can_v be_v desire_v to_o condemnation_n notwithstanding_o all_o the_o outward_a purgation_n the_o law_n can_v afford_v they_o for_o this_o cause_n s._n paul_n say_v that_o the_o law_n be_v a_o ordinance_n that_o be_v against_o us._n for_o when_o the_o sinner_n present_v himself_o and_o do_v public_o confess_v that_o he_o be_v indebt_v to_o god_n and_o in_o offer_v of_o a_o innocent_a beast_n do_v acknowledge_v there_o but_o this_o one_o place_n yet_o be_v it_o sufficient_a to_o show_v that_o this_o epistle_n be_v not_o write_v in_o hebrew_n for_o berith_n in_o the_o hebrew_n tongue_n signify_v covenant_n and_o not_o testament_n but_o because_o the_o greek_a word_n diathece_n have_v these_o two_o signification_n to_o wit_n of_o the_o covenant_n and_o of_o the_o testament_n for_o this_o cause_n the_o apostle_n allude_v to_o the_o second_o signification_n affirm_v that_o the_o promise_n can_v not_o otherwise_o be_v of_o any_o weight_n or_o stability_n unless_o they_o have_v be_v seal_v by_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n
11_o let_v we_o study_v therefore_o to_o enter_v into_o that_o rest_n least_o any_o man_n fall_v after_o the_o same_o ensample_n of_o disobedience_n 12_o for_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v lively_a and_o mighty_a in_o operation_n and_o sharp_a than_o any_o two_o edge_a sword_n and_o enter_v through_o even_o unto_o the_o divide_n asunder_o of_o the_o soul_n and_o the_o spirit_n and_o of_o the_o joint_n and_o the_o marrow_n and_o be_v a_o discerner_n of_o the_o thought_n &_o the_o intent_n of_o the_o heart_n 13_o neither_o be_v there_o any_o creature_n which_o be_v not_o manifest_a in_o his_o paint_a table_n also_o that_o we_o shall_v not_o doubt_v but_o the_o like_a will_v befall_v we_o if_o we_o be_v find_v guilty_a of_o the_o same_o infidelity_n to_o fall_v then_o be_v take_v to_o perish_v or_o to_o speak_v more_o clear_o it_o be_v take_v for_o the_o punishment_n and_o not_o for_o the_o sin_n but_o this_o metaphor_n be_v to_o be_v refer_v both_o to_o the_o former_a word_n of_o enter_v as_o also_o to_o the_o pitiful_a fall_n of_o the_o father_n 10.8_o 1._o cor._n 10.8_o by_o who_o example_n he_o mean_v to_o terrify_v the_o jew_n for_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v lively_a word_n be_v not_o effectual_a indifferent_o and_o equal_o in_o all_o for_o the_o virtue_n thereof_o manifest_v itself_o in_o the_o elect_a that_o be_v humble_v in_o the_o true_a acknowledgement_n of_o themselves_o they_o shall_v have_v their_o recourse_n to_o the_o grace_n of_o christ_n which_o can_v be_v do_v unless_o it_o pierce_v into_o the_o very_a depth_n of_o the_o heart_n for_o hypocrisy_n anvil_n drive_v the_o blow_n back_o again_o be_v they_o never_o so_o mighty_a and_o therefore_o it_o be_v unpossible_a the_o word_n of_o god_n shall_v pierce_v so_o far_o in_o they_o as_o to_o come_v to_o the_o division_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o of_o the_o spirit_n for_o this_o cause_n it_o seem_v that_o this_o title_n ought_v only_o to_o be_v restrain_v to_o the_o faithful_a see_v none_o but_o they_o do_v examine_v themselves_o thus_o to_o the_o quick_a notwithstanding_o the_o coherence_n of_o the_o text_n of_o the_o apostle_n show_v that_o it_o be_v a_o general_a sentence_n which_o extend_v itself_o even_o to_o the_o reprobate_n for_o although_o they_o be_v not_o soften_v by_o it_o but_o do_v set_v heart_n of_o iron_n and_o steel_n against_o god_n and_o his_o word_n yet_o must_v at_o the_o first_o day_n yet_o by_o the_o event_n at_o the_o last_o you_o shall_v know_v that_o the_o word_n be_v not_o preach_v to_o any_o man_n in_o vain_a very_o it_o be_v a_o general_a sentence_n forthwith_o arraign_v before_o god_n judgement_n seat_n and_o find_v guilty_a as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v if_o any_o man_n be_v of_o that_o mind_n that_o he_o think_v it_o be_v but_o a_o beat_n of_o the_o air_n in_o vain_a when_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v preach_v he_o great_o err_v and_o deceive_v himself_o for_o the_o word_n be_v lively_a and_o full_a of_o secret_a efficacy_n which_o leave_v meaning_n the_o earth_n say_v he_o which_o drink_v in_o the_o rain_n present_o after_o seed_n time_n if_o it_o bring_v not_o forth_o of_o the_o kernel_n a_o bastard_n or_o wild_a grass_n be_v at_o the_o length_n bring_v to_o the_o ripeness_n of_o good_a corn_n by_o the_o blessing_n of_o god_n so_o also_o they_o that_o receive_v the_o seed_n of_o the_o gospel_n into_o their_o heart_n and_o of_o this_o seed_n do_v bring_v forth_o a_o good_a and_o natural_a blade_n do_v always_o grow_v better_a and_o better_o till_o they_o bring_v forth_o ripe_a fruit_n contrariwise_o the_o earth_n which_o have_v be_v plough_v and_o water_v and_o yet_o bring_v forth_o nothing_o but_o thorn_n and_o brier_n give_v no_o hope_n to_o the_o reaper_n ver._n 8_o but_o which_o be_v worse_o the_o more_o that_o which_o be_v come_v forth_o grow_v the_o more_o be_v he_o leave_v hopeless_a and_o therefore_o the_o only_a remedy_n be_v that_o the_o labourer_n set_v this_o field_n on_o fire_n which_o be_v so_o full_a of_o naughty_a and_o unprofitable_a grass_n so_o they_o also_o who_o by_o their_o loose_a and_o wicked_a affection_n do_v corrupt_v the_o seed_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o in_o their_o life_n they_o give_v no_o token_n at_o all_o of_o profit_v and_o go_v forward_o they_o show_v themselves_o to_o be_v castawaies_a so_o as_o they_o give_v no_o hope_n of_o any_o good_a harvest_n the_o apostle_n then_o in_o this_o place_n not_o only_o handle_v the_o fruit_n of_o the_o gospel_n but_o still_o hold_v on_o his_o exhortation_n that_o we_o shall_v embrace_v the_o gospel_n with_o a_o reader_n may_v be_v overwhelm_v and_o altogether_o amaze_v it_o be_v needful_a now_o to_o allay_v this_o sharpness_n and_o therefore_o he_o say_v that_o though_o he_o have_v thus_o speak_v it_o be_v to_o make_v it_o serve_v his_o purpose_n objection_n for_o here_o the_o question_n be_v about_o the_o abrogation_n of_o ceremony_n and_o the_o prophet_n speak_v of_o the_o whole_a law_n for_o let_v it_o be_v grant_v that_o god_n do_v write_v the_o rule_n of_o holiness_n of_o life_n in_o the_o heart_n which_o yet_o be_v give_v by_o the_o voice_n of_o man_n and_o by_o they_o put_v into_o writing_n what_o be_v all_o this_o to_o the_o purpose_n in_o regard_n of_o ceremony_n i_o answer_v answer_v it_o be_v a_o argument_n from_o the_o whole_a to_o a_o part_n for_o we_o be_v not_o to_o doubt_v but_o the_o prophet_n comprehend_v the_o whole_a ministry_n of_o moses_n when_o he_o say_v i_o have_v make_v a_o covenant_n with_o you_o which_o covenant_n you_o break_v the_o law_n indeed_o be_v clothe_v as_o it_o be_v with_o ceremony_n but_o now_o the_o body_n be_v destroy_v and_o dead_a what_o use_n be_v there_o of_o the_o garment_n for_o it_o be_v a_o common_a prover_n be_v well_o enough_o know_v that_o the_o appurtenance_n or_o accessary_a be_v of_o the_o nature_n of_o his_o principal_n it_o be_v no_o marvel_n then_o if_o the_o ceremony_n which_o be_v but_o hangby_n as_o you_o will_v say_v of_o the_o old_a testament_n with_o the_o whole_a ministry_n of_o moses_n be_v abolish_v and_o it_o be_v always_o the_o usual_a custom_n of_o the_o apostle_n when_o they_o contend_v about_o ceremony_n to_o dispute_v general_o of_o the_o whole_a law_n so_o then_o although_o this_o pprophecy_n of_o jeremiah_n stretch_v itself_o further_a than_o to_o the_o ceremony_n yet_o notwithstanding_o because_o they_o be_v include_v under_o the_o name_n of_o the_o old_a testament_n the_o apostle_n fit_o apply_v this_o pprophecy_n to_o his_o present_a purpose_n moreover_o all_o do_v confess_v that_o by_o the_o day_n whereof_o the_o prophet_n make_v mention_v be_v signify_v the_o kingdom_n of_o christ_n he_o name_v the_o house_n of_o israel_n and_o the_o house_n of_o judah_n because_o the_o posterity_n of_o abraham_n be_v divide_v into_o two_o kingdom_n therefore_o it_o be_v a_o promise_n that_o the_o whole_a body_n of_o all_o the_o elect_a shall_v be_v gather_v again_o together_o in_o one_o howsoever_o in_o time_n past_a they_o be_v sever_v not_o according_a to_o the_o covenant_n which_o i_o make_v etc._n etc._n verse_n 9_o hereby_o he_o show_v that_o there_o shall_v be_v a_o difference_n between_o that_o covenant_n which_o then_o be_v in_o force_n and_o the_o new_a covenant_n the_o which_o he_o give_v they_o hope_n of_o otherwise_o the_o prophet_n will_v have_v say_v i_o will_v renew_v and_o establish_v again_o with_o you_o the_o covenant_n which_o be_v break_v by_o your_o default_n but_o he_o now_o say_v express_o that_o it_o shall_v not_o be_v like_a unto_o it_o their_o revolt_n by_o the_o repetition_n of_o so_o great_a a_o benefit_n although_o he_o condemn_v not_o the_o ingratitude_n of_o one_o generation_n only_o but_o as_o those_o which_o be_v deliver_v revolt_v by_o and_o by_o and_o their_o successor_n likewise_o fall_v often_o into_o the_o same_o fault_n after_o they_o so_o he_o do_v in_o this_o speech_n challenge_v the_o whole_a nation_n of_o disloyalty_n and_o of_o break_v the_o covenant_n when_o he_o say_v he_o despise_v they_o or_o regard_v they_o not_o he_o give_v they_o to_o understand_v that_o although_o they_o be_v once_o adopt_v to_o be_v his_o people_n yet_o that_o shall_v profit_v they_o nothing_o unless_o he_o succour_v they_o by_o a_o new_a remedy_n the_o prophet_n have_v other_o term_n according_a as_o the_o matter_n be_v couch_v together_o in_o the_o hebrew_n text_n but_o that_o be_v of_o no_o great_a importance_n as_o touch_v the_o point_n now_o in_o question_n for_o this_o be_v the_o covenant_n verse_n 10_o etc._n etc._n there_o be_v two_o principal_a article_n in_o this_o covenant_n the_o first_o be_v touch_v the_o free_a remission_n of_o sin_n the_o second_o of_o the_o inward_a reformation_n of_o the_o heart_n there_o be_v a_o three_o but_o that_o depend_v upon_o the_o second_o &_o that_o be_v the_o illumination_n of_o the_o mind_n with_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n now_o there_o be_v here_o many_o thing_n worthy_a our_o observation_n the_o first_o be_v that_o god_n call_v we_o to_o he_o in_o vain_a while_o he_o only_o speak_v unto_o we_o by_o the_o voice_n of_o man_n we_o must_v not_o deny_v but_o that_o which_o he_o teach_v be_v right_n and_o just_a but_o yet_o he_o speak_v but_o to_o deaf_a ear_n yea_o and_o albeit_o it_o may_v seem_v that_o we_o understand_v somewhat_o yet_o be_v it_o only_o a_o outward_a sound_n that_o beat_v the_o air_n for_o the_o heart_n still_o remain_v full_a of_o rebellion_n and_o frowardness_n cast_v off_o the_o yoke_n of_o wholesome_a doctrine_n in_o a_o word_n god_n word_n never_o enter_v into_o the_o secret_a of_o the_o heart_n be_v of_o themselves_o more_o hard_o than_o iron_n or_o stone_n till_o he_o by_o his_o his_o spirit_n do_v soften_v they_o not_o only_o that_o but_o the_o case_n be_v yet_o far_o otherwise_o for_o we_o have_v a_o contrary_a law_n engrave_v within_o they_o spirit_n god_n word_n never_o take_v place_n in_o our_o heart_n our_o nature_n before_o god_n have_v regenerate_v us._n i_o grant_v that_o we_o both_o will_v and_o choose_v and_o that_o free_o without_o constraint_n freewill_n freewill_n but_o our_o will_n be_v carry_v away_o even_o with_o a_o furious_a violence_n to_o resist_v god_n and_o be_v not_o able_a in_o any_o thing_n to_o subject_v itself_o to_o his_o righteousness_n this_o be_v the_o cause_n why_o the_o law_n bring_v nothing_o but_o destruction_n and_o death_n
out_o unto_o us._n for_o if_o this_o have_v not_o be_v add_v a_o door_n have_v be_v open_v to_o many_o false_a conjecture_n but_o now_o the_o matter_n be_v out_o of_o all_o question_n witaess_n none_o ought_v to_o be_v condemn_v but_o such_o as_o be_v convince_v by_o witaess_n that_o he_o speak_v here_o of_o apostasy_n yet_o we_o must_v note_v herewithal_o this_o equity_n which_o almost_o all_o politic_n have_v follow_v to_o wit_n that_o none_o be_v condemn_v till_o he_o be_v convict_v by_o witness_n which_o tread_v under_o foot_n the_o son_n of_o god_n this_o be_v common_a both_o to_o the_o apostate_n of_o the_o law_n and_o the_o gospel_n to_o wit_n that_o both_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o do_v perish_v without_o mercy_n but_o the_o manner_n of_o their_o ruin_n be_v diverse_a for_o the_o apostle_n threaten_v not_o bodily_a death_n alone_o to_o the_o contemner_n of_o christ_n but_o also_o eternal_a damnation_n for_o this_o cause_n he_o say_v that_o these_o have_v deserve_v a_o most_o grievous_a torment_n now_o he_o set_v forth_o the_o revolt_n of_o christian_n by_o three_o form_n of_o speech_n for_o he_o say_v first_o that_o by_o this_o mean_n the_o son_n of_o god_n be_v tread_v under_o foot_n 2._o that_o his_o blood_n be_v count_v a_o profane_a thing_n 3._o that_o they_o despite_v the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n now_o it_o be_v worse_a to_o tread_v under_o foot_n than_o to_o despise_v and_o the_o dignity_n of_o christ_n be_v far_o above_o the_o dignity_n of_o moses_n and_o note_v also_o that_o he_o do_v not_o simple_o oppose_v the_o gospel_n to_o the_o law_n but_o the_o person_n of_o christ_n and_o of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n to_o the_o person_n of_o moses_n only_o and_o count_v the_o blood_n of_o the_o testament_n as_o a_o unholy_a thing_n he_o aggravate_v this_o ingratitude_n by_o make_v comparison_n of_o the_o benefit_n questionless_a it_o be_v a_o great_a villainy_n to_o profane_v the_o blood_n of_o christ_n which_o be_v the_o matter_n of_o our_o sanctification_n now_o they_o do_v it_o which_o revolt_v from_o the_o faith_n for_o the_o eye_n of_o our_o faith_n look_v not_o upon_o the_o bare_a and_o naked_a doctrine_n but_o to_o the_o blood_n by_o which_o our_o salvation_n be_v establish_v and_o therefore_o he_o call_v it_o the_o blood_n of_o the_o testament_n because_o the_o promise_n thereof_o be_v then_o ratify_v and_o confirm_v unto_o we_o when_o this_o pledge_n of_o our_o redemption_n be_v add_v but_o he_o show_v what_o the_o mean_a of_o this_o ratification_n be_v when_o he_o say_v by_o which_o we_o be_v sanctify_v because_o the_o notwithstanding_o he_o allude_v to_o the_o ancient_a manner_n of_o sprinkle_v which_o serve_v nothing_o at_o all_o to_o true_a sanctification_n us._n four_o effect_n which_o the_o holy_a ghost_n work_v in_o us._n but_o be_v only_o a_o shadow_n or_o figure_n of_o it_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n he_o call_v it_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n because_o of_o the_o effect_n for_o as_o much_o as_o by_o he_o and_o his_o virtue_n we_o enjoy_v that_o grace_n which_o be_v offer_v we_o in_o christ_n for_o it_o be_v he_o that_o illuminate_v our_o understanding_n by_o faith_n which_o seal_v up_o our_o adoption_n in_o our_o heart_n which_o regenerate_v we_o into_o newness_n of_o life_n which_o ingraft_v we_o into_o the_o body_n of_o christ_n to_o the_o end_n he_o may_v live_v in_o we_o and_o we_o in_o he_o he_o be_v right_o then_o call_v the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n see_v by_o he_o christ_n with_o all_o his_o benefit_n be_v make_v we_o now_o it_o be_v too_o great_a and_o wicked_a a_o impiety_n to_o despite_v he_o who_o bestow_v upon_o we_o so_o many_o and_o so_o excellent_a benefit_n from_o this_o we_o may_v gather_v that_o all_o those_o who_o willing_o do_v cause_n the_o spirit_n of_o god_n to_o become_v unprofitable_a unto_o they_o which_o once_o they_o receive_v do_v thereby_o revile_v and_o despite_v he_o therefore_o we_o be_v not_o to_o wonder_v if_o god_n do_v so_o severe_o punish_v such_o sacrilege_n we_o must_v not_o marvel_v if_o he_o stop_v his_o ear_n to_o those_o which_o have_v tread_v under_o foot_n christ_n the_o mediator_n who_o only_o obtain_v for_o we_o that_o we_o know_v he_o that_o have_v say_v vengeance_n belong_v unto_o i_o etc._n etc._n these_o two_o place_n be_v take_v out_o of_o the_o 32._o of_o deut._n 35._o now_o see_v moses_n there_o promise_v that_o god_n will_v show_v vengeance_n upon_o they_o that_o have_v wrong_v his_o people_n it_o seem_v that_o that_o which_o be_v there_o speak_v of_o vengeance_n be_v here_o improper_o wrest_v to_o the_o matter_n in_o hand_n for_o what_o shall_v the_o apostle_n drift_n now_o be_v he_o say_v that_o the_o impiety_n of_o those_o who_o have_v mock_v god_n shall_v not_o go_v unpunished_a and_o s._n paul_n in_o the_o 12._o to_o the_o rom._n 19_o follow_v the_o true_a meaning_n of_o this_o place_n of_o moses_n apply_v it_o to_o another_o end_n for_o exhort_v we_o to_o patience_n he_o command_v we_o that_o we_o they_o by_o another_o mean_n as_o often_o then_o as_o the_o trouble_n which_o we_o have_v suffer_v for_o christ_n shall_v come_v into_o our_o mind_n let_v they_o be_v so_o many_o goad_n in_o our_o side_n to_o prick_v we_o forward_o to_o profit_v more_o and_o more_o partly_o while_o you_o be_v make_v verse_n 33_o etc._n etc._n we_o see_v to_o what_o manner_n of_o person_n he_o because_o you_o be_v dull_a of_o hear_v who_o in_o the_o day_n etc._n etc._n verse_n 7_o because_o the_o outward_a form_n and_o beauty_n of_o christ_n be_v often_o diffigure_v by_o the_o cross_n when_o man_n consider_v not_o to_o what_o end_n he_o be_v humble_v and_o abase_v the_o apostle_n here_o again_o teach_v that_o which_o he_o have_v touch_v before_o to_o wit_n that_o there_o shine_v a_o marucilous_a goodness_n of_o he_o
in_o this_o in_o that_o he_o subject_v himself_o to_o our_o infirmity_n for_o our_o benefit_n and_o profit_n whence_o it_o appear_v that_o our_o faith_n be_v confirm_v and_o his_o honour_n no_o way_n diminish_v by_o this_o his_o bear_n of_o our_o misery_n now_o he_o assign_v two_o cause_n wherefore_o it_o behove_v that_o christ_n shall_v suffer_v the_o near_a cause_n and_o the_o last_o the_o deliver_v from_o his_o trouble_n and_o this_o he_o say_v to_o the_o end_n none_o shall_v think_v that_o christ_n have_v a_o heart_n of_o brass_n without_o feeling_n for_o we_o must_v always_o consider_v to_o what_o end_n every_o thing_n be_v speak_v if_o christ_n have_v not_o be_v touch_v with_o any_o sorrow_n what_o consolation_n will_v have_v come_v unto_o we_o by_o his_o passion_n but_o when_o we_o hear_v that_o he_o feel_v not_o bodily_a pain_n alone_o but_o also_o endure_v sharp_a torment_n in_o his_o spirit_n herein_o be_v the_o similitude_n show_v between_o he_o and_o us._n for_o when_o christ_n say_v he_o endure_v death_n and_o other_o misery_n it_o be_v not_o to_o the_o end_n he_o shall_v set_v they_o light_n or_o not_o be_v touch_v with_o any_o feel_n of_o they_o for_o he_o pray_v with_o cry_n and_o tear_n by_o which_o he_o give_v testimony_n of_o the_o great_a anguish_n that_o be_v in_o his_o heart_n the_o apostle_n then_o by_o these_o tear_n and_o strong_a cry_n will_v but_o what_o use_n have_v this_o true_o that_o as_o often_o as_o we_o be_v press_v under_o temptation_n we_o learn_v to_o fasten_v all_o our_o sense_n upon_o the_o son_n of_o god_n who_o feel_v the_o like_a see_v he_o go_v before_o we_o then_o spirit_n what_o we_o be_v to_o do_v in_o temptation_n of_o spirit_n we_o have_v no_o cause_n to_o be_v out_o of_o heart_n and_o withal_o we_o be_v admonish_v not_o to_o sue_v unto_o any_o for_o deliverance_n out_o of_o our_o misery_n but_o to_o god_n alone_o for_o what_o better_a rule_n of_o prayer_n can_v we_o have_v than_o the_o example_n of_o christ_n now_o he_o direct_v his_o prayer_n to_o none_o but_o to_o his_o father_n o_o my_o father_n say_v he_o if_o it_o be_v possible_a etc._n etc._n matth._n 26.39_o and_o the_o apostle_n show_v we_o that_o we_o be_v to_o do_v the_o like_a when_o he_o say_v that_o christ_n offer_v up_o prayer_n to_o he_o that_o be_v able_a to_o save_v he_o from_o death_n for_o hereby_o he_o signify_v that_o and_o the_o more_o attent_a when_o we_o make_v our_o prayer_n servant_n prayer_n ought_v to_o be_v servant_n for_o we_o ought_v not_o to_o go_v to_o prayer_n retchless_n but_o with_o fervency_n of_o spirit_n and_o be_v hear_v in_o that_o which_o he_o fear_v some_o have_v translate_v for_o his_o reverence_n but_o i_o do_v not_o at_o any_o hand_n approve_v of_o it_o for_o first_o the_o adiective_n he_o be_v not_o add_v in_o the_o greek_a moreover_o the_o word_n which_o follow_v signify_v of_o or_o some_o word_n like_a unto_o it_o see_v then_o that_o the_o greek_a noun_n which_o be_v put_v here_o signify_v oftentimes_o rather_o fear_n or_o care_n i_o doubt_v not_o but_o the_o apostle_n mean_v to_o show_v that_o christ_n be_v hear_v in_o that_o which_o he_o fear_v that_o be_v to_o say_v albeit_o he_o be_v overwhelm_v with_o sorrow_n and_o adversity_n yet_o he_o fall_v not_o under_o the_o flesh_n ourselves_o our_o obedience_n chief_o appear_v in_o the_o denial_n of_o ourselves_o to_o yield_v to_o that_o which_o be_v please_v unto_o god_n then_o and_o never_o till_o then_o do_v our_o obedience_n appear_v this_o i_o say_v be_v a_o singular_a and_o evident_a testimony_n of_o perfect_a subjection_n when_o as_o we_o prefer_v death_n itself_o to_o which_o we_o be_v call_v of_o god_n although_o it_o bring_v fear_n and_o horror_n before_o life_n which_o all_o of_o we_o do_v rather_o natural_o desire_v and_o be_v consecrate_v be_v make_v etc._n etc._n verse_n 9_o this_o be_v the_o last_o or_o further_a end_n as_o they_o say_v wherefore_o it_o behoove_v christ_n to_o with_o it_o while_o it_o remain_v write_v in_o table_n of_o stone_n as_o s._n paul_n teach_v 2._o cor._n 3.3_o to_o be_v short_a then_o do_v we_o receive_v that_o which_o god_n command_v with_o obedient_a heart_n when_o he_o change_v and_o correct_v the_o natural_a perversitie_n of_o they_o by_o the_o work_n of_o his_o spirit_n otherwise_o he_o shall_v find_v in_o we_o nothing_o but_o corrupt_a affection_n and_o a_o heart_n whole_o incline_v to_o evil_a for_o this_o sentence_n of_o god_n be_v clear_a and_o evident_a that_o a_o new_a covenant_n must_v be_v make_v by_o which_o god_n have_v his_o efficacy_n continual_o for_o this_o grace_n extend_v itself_o throughout_o the_o whole_a kingdom_n of_o christ_n which_o s._n paul_n also_o do_v sufficient_o show_v 2._o blood_n our_o city_n of_o refuge_n be_v the_o remission_n of_o sin_n in_o christ_n blood_n cor._n 5._o and_o indeed_o this_o be_v the_o city_n of_o our_o refuge_n unto_o which_o if_o we_o flee_v not_o by_o faith_n 33.12_o psal_n 144.15_o for_o david_n cry_v excellent_o in_o the_o psalm_n bless_v be_v the_o people_n who_o have_v the_o lord_n for_o their_o god_n now_o we_o need_v not_o doubt_v but_o this_o father_n be_v deprive_v of_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o whether_o they_o taste_v not_o of_o god_n fatherly_a kindness_n in_o the_o remission_n of_o their_o sin_n for_o it_o well_o appear_v that_o they_o serve_v god_n in_o sincerity_n of_o heart_n and_o in_o purity_n of_o conscience_n and_o that_o they_o walk_v in_o his_o commandment_n which_o sure_o they_o can_v not_o have_v do_v unless_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n have_v teach_v they_o inward_o it_o also_o appear_v that_o as_o oft_o as_o they_o think_v upon_o their_o sin_n they_o be_v comfort_v and_o sustain_v by_o the_o hope_n and_o confidence_n which_o they_o have_v in_o the_o free_a remission_n of_o they_o objection_n but_o may_n some_o say_v it_o seem_v that_o the_o apostle_n exclude_v they_o from_o have_v part_n in_o any_o of_o these_o benefit_n in_o put_v over_o the_o prophecy_n of_o jeremy_n to_o the_o come_n of_o christ_n i_o answer_v answer_v he_o simple_o deny_v not_o that_o god_n write_v his_o law_n of_o light_n much_o like_o the_o light_n of_o the_o moon_n and_o star_n in_o comparison_n of_o that_o light_n of_o the_o gospel_n which_o now_o show_v itself_o with_o a_o surpass_a clearness_n objection_n if_o it_o be_v object_v that_o the_o faith_n and_o obedience_n of_o abraham_n be_v so_o excellent_a that_o the_o like_a be_v not_o to_o be_v find_v at_o this_o day_n in_o all_o the_o world_n i_o answer_v answer_v that_o the_o question_n be_v not_o here_o of_o man_n person_n but_o of_o the_o order_n and_o dispensation_n of_o govern_v the_o church_n moreover_o that_o whatsoever_o
