our_o report_n use_v let_v we_o then_o sigh_v and_o complain_v with_o the_o prophet_n yea_o let_v we_o be_v even_o greeve_v in_o our_o soul_n if_o we_o see_v little_a fruit_n to_o come_v of_o our_o labour_n and_o let_v we_o pour_v forth_o our_o complaint_n before_o god_n for_o thus_o ought_v the_o faithful_a servant_n of_o god_n to_o be_v affect_v if_o they_o mean_v sincere_o to_o discharge_v their_o duty_n isaiah_n show_v then_o that_o the_o number_n of_o those_o shall_v be_v very_o small_a that_o shall_v submit_v themselves_o to_o the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n for_o when_o he_o cry_v who_o will_v believe_v our_o preach_n it_o be_v as_o much_o as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v that_o of_o a_o hundred_o that_o hear_v the_o gospel_n scarce_o one_o of_o they_o will_v prove_v a_o believer_n if_o they_o that_o have_v preach_v continue_v blâ—nd_n how_o miserable_a blind_a must_v they_o be_v that_o have_v no_o preach_v at_o all_o yet_o there_o be_v but_o a_o few_o that_o believe_v what_o shall_v become_v of_o they_o that_o enjoy_v no_o preach_v at_o all_o shall_v we_o need_v to_o wonder_n much_o at_o their_o extreme_a blindness_n if_o the_o earth_n that_o be_v well_o husband_v bring_v forth_o but_o little_a fruit_n what_o be_v to_o be_v expect_v from_o that_o that_o be_v utter_o barren_a and_o unhusband_v but_o the_o gospel_n lose_v no_o whit_n of_o his_o excellency_n though_o it_o get_v but_o few_o follower_n neither_o do_v the_o small_a number_n of_o believer_n diminish_v the_o authority_n thereof_o nor_o yet_o obscure_a the_o infinite_a glory_n of_o it_o but_o rather_o so_o great_a be_v the_o mystery_n of_o it_o that_o it_o can_v hardly_o find_v any_o welcome_n in_o the_o world_n for_o it_o be_v esteem_v folly_n 1._o cor._n 1.23_o because_o it_o be_v far_o above_o the_o reach_n of_o their_o carnal_a reason_n in_o the_o second_o member_n isaiah_n more_o clear_o set_v down_o the_o reason_n why_o there_o be_v so_o few_o believer_n what_o be_v that_o believe_v the_o reason_n why_o so_o few_o believe_v none_o can_v come_v unto_o god_n without_o the_o especial_a illumination_n of_o his_o holy_a spirit_n but_o those_o be_v deceive_v in_o my_o judgement_n who_o think_v that_o arm_n here_o signify_v jesus_n christ_n for_o it_o be_v a_o render_n of_o the_o cause_n why_o the_o gospel_n get_v mo_z north_n attendant_n namely_o they_o can_v comprehend_v the_o mystery_n thereof_o by_o the_o dexterity_n of_o their_o turall_a wit_n this_o be_v a_o very_a worthy_a sentence_n therefore_o and_o it_o be_v allege_v both_o by_o saint_n john_n and_o saint_n paul_n to_o this_o very_a purpose_n john_n say_v that_o albeit_o christ_n have_v do_v so_o many_o miracle_n yet_o they_o believe_v not_o that_o the_o word_n which_o isaiah_n have_v speak_v may_v be_v fulfil_v lord_n who_o have_v believe_v our_o report_n and_o to_o who_o be_v the_o arm_n of_o the_o lord_n reveal_v john_n 12.37_o and_o saint_n paul_n say_v but_o all_o have_v not_o obey_v the_o gospel_n for_o isaiah_n say_v lord_n who_o have_v believe_v our_o preach_n rom._n 10.16_o both_o of_o they_o show_v how_o we_o be_v not_o to_o wonder_v if_o that_o which_o be_v so_o long_o since_o foretell_v do_v still_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o so_o they_o may_v remove_v that_o scandal_n which_o otherwise_o will_v remain_v in_o regard_n of_o this_o people_n revolt_n who_o in_o stead_n of_o acknowledge_v and_o receive_v christ_n when_o he_o come_v do_v obstinate_o resist_v he_o and_o yet_o isaiah_n mean_v not_o to_o tax_v his_o own_o countryman_n alone_o with_o this_o sin_n gentile_n this_o incredulity_n common_a both_o to_o jew_n and_o gentile_n but_o comprehend_v all_o those_o that_o shall_v succeed_v they_o to_o the_o end_n of_o the_o world_n for_o as_o long_o as_o christ_n shall_v have_v any_o kingdom_n on_o earth_n this_o prophecy_n must_v be_v daily_o accomplish_v and_o therefore_o the_o faithful_a aught_o to_o be_v confirm_v with_o this_o testimony_n against_o such_o a_o offence_n moreover_o this_o refute_v their_o ignorance_n who_o imagine_v that_o faith_n be_v in_o every_o man_n power_n because_o the_o word_n preach_v be_v common_a to_o all_o for_o though_o all_o be_v call_v to_o salvation_n by_o the_o ministry_n thereof_o choose_v many_o call_v but_o few_o choose_v yet_o the_o prophet_n express_o affirm_v that_o the_o outward_a voice_n which_o call_v profit_v nothing_o unless_o the_o particular_a grace_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n concur_v therewith_o but_o whence_o be_v this_o difference_n only_o from_o god_n secret_a election_n who_o reserve_v the_o cause_n thereof_o hide_v in_o his_o own_o counsel_n verse_n 2._o but_o he_o shall_v grow_v up_o before_o he_o as_o a_o branch_n &_o as_o a_o root_n out_o of_o a_o dry_a ground_n he_o have_v like_o a_o wither_a stock_n of_o a_o tree_n which_o have_v no_o sap_n nor_o any_o appearance_n of_o beauty_n leave_v and_o therefore_o in_o that_o place_n he_o name_v not_o the_o house_n royal_a but_o of_o ishai_n who_o name_n be_v then_o little_o renown_v only_o the_o prophet_n add_v here_o a_o dry_a ground_n thereby_o signify_v that_o christ_n shall_v take_v no_o force_n from_o the_o moisture_n of_o the_o earth_n to_o cause_v he_o to_o grow_v as_o tree_n do_v but_o shall_v increase_v after_o a_o supernatural_a manner_n those_o who_o allegorise_v here_o and_o think_v that_o the_o virgin_n ground_n which_o in_o appearance_n will_v never_o grow_v to_o any_o stature_n for_o indeed_o if_o we_o shall_v consider_v by_o what_o mean_v christ_n have_v establish_v his_o kingdom_n and_o what_o like_a smoke_n and_o the_o earth_n shall_v wax_v old_a as_o a_o garment_n and_o they_o that_o dwell_v therein_o shall_v perish_v in_o like_a manner_n but_o my_o salvation_n shall_v be_v for_o ever_o and_o my_o righteousness_n shall_v not_o be_v abolish_v while_o we_o see_v so_o many_o change_n fall_v out_o in_o the_o world_n and_o that_o the_o church_n as_o we_o often_o think_v shall_v be_v violent_o swallow_v up_o therein_o church_n the_o stability_n of_o the_o church_n it_o be_v very_o needful_a that_o our_o mind_n shall_v be_v gather_v up_o far_o above_o the_o whole_a order_n of_o nature_n otherwise_o the_o salvation_n of_o the_o church_n shall_v seem_v to_o hang_v in_o a_o net_n and_o to_o float_v up_o and_o down_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o these_o tempest_n we_o may_v easy_o discern_v with_o what_o wisdom_n god_n govern_v all_o thing_n both_o in_o heaven_n above_o and_o in_o the_o earth_n below_o second_o with_o what_o a_o fatherly_a care_n he_o uphold_v and_o preserve_v his_o work_n and_o the_o whole_a frame_n of_o the_o world_n three_o with_o what_o equity_n he_o dispose_v and_o provide_v for_o all_o his_o creature_n therein_o but_o his_o care_n and_o providence_n over_o his_o church_n be_v surpass_v great_a which_o indeed_o he_o have_v separate_v from_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o world_n the_o prophet_n have_v here_o comprehend_v both_o these_o point_n for_o he_o command_v the_o faithful_a to_o turn_v their_o eye_n on_o every_o side_n of_o they_o to_o consider_v god_n admirable_a providence_n as_o well_o in_o the_o heaven_n as_o in_o the_o earth_n by_o which_o he_o have_v constant_o continue_v from_o the_o creation_n that_o goodly_a order_n by_o he_o then_o establish_v he_o add_v that_o although_o these_o thing_n seem_v to_o fall_v to_o decay_v yet_o it_o be_v unpossible_a that_o the_o church_n which_o have_v her_o sure_a foundation_n in_o god_n shall_v ever_o be_v shake_v as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v heaven_n and_o earth_n shall_v perish_v a_o hundred_o time_n rather_o than_o the_o promise_n upon_o which_o the_o salvation_n of_o the_o church_n be_v ground_v shall_v be_v abolish_v he_o therefore_o put_v salvation_n in_o the_o first_o place_n and_o then_o he_o add_v righteousness_n which_o be_v the_o solid_a foundation_n wherewith_o this_o salvation_n be_v uphold_v when_o danger_n threaten_v we_o on_o all_o side_n then_o let_v we_o learn_v in_o perplexity_n and_o tremble_v in_o regard_n of_o our_o misery_n we_o have_v much_o ado_n to_o apprehend_v or_o embrace_v the_o promise_n there_o be_v great_a need_n then_o that_o we_o shall_v often_o be_v rouse_v and_o waken_v up_o to_o attention_n until_o we_o have_v wound_v ourselves_o out_o of_o all_o entangling_n but_o he_o direct_v not_o his_o speech_n here_o to_o the_o hypocrite_n who_o the_o lord_n will_v have_v audience_n namely_o of_o such_o as_o know_v righteousness_n second_o expound_v what_o this_o knowledge_n be_v he_o add_v the_o people_n in_o who_o heart_n my_o law_n be_v write_v and_o plant_v for_o there_o be_v no_o righteousness_n without_o god_n word_n let_v man_n make_v never_o so_o many_o law_n and_o that_o in_o the_o best_a form_n they_o can_v devise_v yet_o they_o can_v not_o bring_v we_o to_o true_a righteousness_n they_o may_v well_o bring_v we_o to_o some_o shadow_n of_o it_o but_o they_o shall_v never_o attain_v so_o far_o as_o to_o express_v it_o in_o the_o heart_n that_o so_o be_v leaven_a with_o this_o heavenly_a doctrine_n math._n 13.33_o we_o may_v be_v whole_o transform_v into_o it_o 2._o cor._n 3.18_o verse_n 8._o for_o the_o moth_n live_v for_o see_v he_o mention_n not_o they_o at_o all_o but_o only_o recommend_v unto_o they_o the_o perpetuity_n of_o his_o righteousness_n it_o may_v be_v object_v what_o profit_n shall_v we_o have_v by_o this_o that_o god_n righteousness_n shall_v remain_v for_o ever_o while_o we_o in_o the_o mean_a while_n be_v overwhelm_v with_o misery_n but_o the_o prophet_n in_o these_o word_n advertise_v we_o that_o the_o consolation_n which_o belong_v unto_o we_o in_o affliction_n must_v arise_v from_o hence_o that_o our_o health_n and_o salvation_n be_v after_o a_o sort_n shut_v up_o understanding_n for_o we_o think_v that_o god_n sleep_v as_o long_o as_o he_o defer_v to_o relieve_v our_o misery_n and_o yet_o the_o lord_n bear_v with_o we_o thus_o far_o that_o he_o suffer_v we_o to_o pray_v with_o such_o word_n as_o savour_n somewhat_o of_o the_o infirmity_n of_o our_o nature_n the_o faithful_a then_o pray_v that_o god_n will_v arise_v or_o awake_v not_o as_o if_o he_o be_v idle_a or_o asleep_a in_o heaven_n but_o they_o rather_o acknowledge_v therein_o their_o own_o dulness_n or_o slothfulness_n in_o regard_n they_o can_v conceive_v aught_o else_o of_o god_n as_o long_o as_o he_o defer_v to_o help_v they_o notwithstanding_o howsoever_o the_o flesh_n imagine_v that_o he_o sleep_v and_o neglect_v our_o misery_n yet_o faith_n look_v high_a and_o apprehend_v his_o
