the_o same_o only_o seem_v professor_n of_o god_n who_o be_v very_o zealous_a for_o the_o same_o thing_n and_o from_o their_o very_a zeal_n be_v make_v to_o rest_n with_o high_a thought_n of_o their_o condition_n but_o how_o far_o this_o zeal_n which_o be_v most_o common_o lead_v with_o more_o affection_n than_o judgement_n will_v bring_v man_n into_o a_o form_n of_o truth_n first_o it_o will_v lead_v man_n into_o a_o whole_a conformity_n to_o what_o it_o do_v conceive_v to_o be_v truth_n that_o it_o shall_v according_a to_o what_o it_o have_v serve_v god_n in_o all_o good_a conscience_n act_v 23._o 1._o and_o according_a to_o the_o law_n to_o be_v unblamable_a and_o untaxable_a then_o his_o conversation_n shall_v be_v very_o strict_a in_o the_o observation_n of_o what_o the_o law_n require_v and_o he_o shall_v act_v the_o same_o with_o much_o vehemency_n of_o spirit_n take_v all_o opportunity_n for_o the_o do_v of_o the_o same_o second_o it_o will_v carry_v the_o soul_n on_o to_o suffer_v cheerful_o what_o he_o may_v meet_v withal_o in_o this_o very_a particular_a three_o he_o may_v by_o zeal_n afflict_v his_o body_n sore_o 1_o co._n 13._o 3._o with_o fast_v and_o mourning_n under_o pretence_n the_o one_o to_o honour_n and_o obey_v god_n the_o other_o for_o dishonour_n bring_v to_o god_n so_o as_o he_o may_v be_v almost_o spend_v in_o body_n and_o spirit_n and_o estate_n in_o prosecute_a the_o thing_n of_o god_n according_a to_o his_o light_n far_o he_o may_v out_o of_o zeal_n come_v to_o gospel_n precept_n and_o may_v be_v zealous_a for_o that_o light_n in_o external_a form_n which_o be_v there_o require_v to_o be_v obey_v so_o as_o he_o may_v gather_v church_n and_o may_v suffer_v much_o in_o the_o conform_v to_o and_o practise_v with_o so_o much_o vehemency_n the_o ordinance_n common_o practise_v by_o the_o church_n in_o the_o apostle_n and_o our_o day_n so_o as_o his_o zeal_n may_v lead_v he_o out_o to_o teach_v and_o help_v forward_o that_o work_n study_v night_n and_o day_n to_o find_v out_o matter_n to_o furnish_v himself_o for_o edification_n so_o as_o for_o pain_n in_o the_o church_n and_o for_o zeal_n to_o observe_v the_o severity_n of_o those_o form_n and_o any_o thing_n require_v to_o be_v practise_v in_o the_o say_a church_n so_o as_o now_o it_o will_v have_v communion_n in_o ordinance_n with_o none_o but_o those_o of_o his_o own_o stamp_n &_o judgement_n be_v mighty_o carry_v forth_o to_o judge_n and_o pity_v those_o who_o be_v opposer_n of_o that_o light_n now_o this_o soul_n through_o zeal_n may_v go_v thus_o far_o yea_o to_o act_v up_o to_o the_o high_a thing_n the_o scripture_n do_v require_v in_o matter_n of_o visible_a practice_n and_o yet_o be_v not_o at_o all_o teach_v in_o the_o spirit_n neither_o get_v into_o the_o life_n and_o power_n of_o what_o he_o do_v profess_v but_o mere_o zealous_a for_o shadow_n and_o want_v the_o power_n so_o as_o he_o be_v command_v by_o the_o form_n and_o not_o the_o form_n by_o the_o power_n dwell_v within_o he_o now_o grant_v far_o that_o such_o a_o soul_n do_v act_n in_o truth_n according_a to_o this_o dispensation_n yet_o notwithstanding_o in_o this_o particular_a there_o be_v no_o cause_n of_o rest_n for_o nothing_o visible_o see_v flow_v from_o the_o creature_n aught_o to_o be_v its_o rest_n but_o some_o invisible_a flow_n into_o the_o creature_n which_o be_v be_v and_o substance_n from_o which_o and_o unto_o which_o a_o soul_n through_o zeal_n for_o god_n act_n also_o a_o creature_n thus_o zealous_a rest_v not_o at_o home_n but_o reform_v abroad_o also_o beginning_n with_o his_o own_o family_n and_o so_o go_v abroad_o to_o other_o and_o labour_n for_o a_o reformation_n and_o practice_n the_o same_o with_o much_o zeal_n so_o as_o he_o can_v not_o endure_v the_o visible_a appearance_n of_o any_o sin_n in_o himself_o or_o other_o he_o may_v help_v with_o much_o zeal_n the_o purge_n of_o city_n and_o nation_n of_o drunkenness_n or_o swear_v or_o any_o open_a prophanesse_n he_o may_v be_v for_o punish_v of_o evil_a doer_n in_o this_o particular_a with_o much_o severity_n and_o seem_v to_o be_v much_o trouble_v at_o the_o neglect_n of_o it_o he_o may_v rejoice_v much_o in_o this_o practice_n and_o may_v help_v forward_o this_o work_n in_o a_o nation_n very_o much_o and_o yet_o this_o no_o rest_n at_o all_o also_o he_o may_v be_v zealous_a yea_o mad_a of_o zeal_n for_o the_o worship_n of_o his_o god_n in_o reference_n unto_o other_o not_o only_o take_v all_o opportunity_n to_o inform_v they_o in_o the_o same_o but_o use_v all_o coercive_a power_n for_o confirm_v they_o thereunto_o so_o as_o he_o may_v be_v a_o instrument_n to_o bring_v family_n and_o most_o part_n of_o city_n into_o this_o outward_a conformity_n to_o the_o matter_n of_o worship_n and_o here_o he_o look_v upon_o a_o action_n do_v of_o great_a moment_n and_o weight_n and_o partly_o make_v this_o a_o evidence_n of_o his_o true_a enjoyment_n of_o god_n by_o reason_n of_o his_o zeal_n for_o god_n and_o the_o effect_n thereby_o produce_v which_o be_v the_o good_a of_o many_o now_o the_o cause_n of_o a_o soul_n thus_o rest_a partly_o flow_v from_o want_n of_o the_o information_n in_o judgement_n of_o the_o great_a deceit_n of_o the_o heart_n in_o put_v man_n by_o zeal_n upon_o such_o public_a action_n and_o then_o to_o cause_v it_o to_o rest_n and_o further_o it_o conceive_v its_o zeal_n for_o god_n and_o from_o a_o principle_n of_o god_n not_o be_v acquaint_v with_o a_o pharisaical_a zeal_n to_o be_v seâ—n_v of_o man_n or_o to_o get_v a_o name_n among_o man_n or_o that_o zeal_n which_o man_n have_v but_o not_o according_a to_o knowledge_n or_o the_o zeal_n paul_n have_v before_o conversion_n which_o excel_v both_o for_o vehemency_n and_o downrightnesse_n be_v the_o zeal_n of_o many_o a_o professor_n who_o be_v at_o rest_n in_o our_o day_n now_o a_o poor_a creature_n because_o he_o be_v make_v to_o suffer_v free_o and_o to_o hazard_v life_n and_o liberty_n in_o the_o prosecution_n of_o his_o zeal_n he_o be_v much_o puff_v up_o under_o these_o consideration_n 1._o that_o now_o this_o be_v a_o suffering_n with_o and_o for_o christ_n and_o therefore_o he_o shall_v reign_v with_o he_o and_o enjoy_v much_o from_o he_o 2._o that_o this_o be_v a_o part_n with_o all_o for_o christ_n and_o a_o great_a point_n of_o self-deniall_n and_o so_o a_o evidence_n of_o a_o disciple_n of_o christ_n when_o indeed_o the_o soul_n be_v in_o himself_o and_o have_v not_o at_o all_o attain_v that_o estate_n to_o forsake_v himself_o therefore_o let_v every_o heart_n though_o never_o so_o zealous_a for_o god_n take_v notice_n that_o his_o heart_n may_v deceive_v he_o in_o his_o zeal_n and_o his_o affection_n may_v blind_v his_o judgement_n and_o so_o it_o prove_v blind_a zeal_n or_o second_o consider_v that_o though_o it_o be_v such_o zeal_n as_o be_v good_a and_o to_o be_v approve_v of_o in_o its_o dispensation_n yet_o not_o at_o all_o to_o be_v rest_v upon_o nor_o to_o be_v a_o evidence_n of_o any_o true_a enjoyment_n of_o god_n though_o he_o pretend_v god_n in_o the_o forefront_n as_o jehu_n do_v the_o five_o false_a rest_n the_o next_o rest_n of_o a_o soul_n though_o i_o may_v not_o have_v speak_v of_o it_o because_o i_o have_v partly_o give_v it_o forth_o yet_o that_o thing_n may_v be_v the_o more_o open_v it_o be_v the_o creature_n righteousness_n or_o sanctification_n and_o outward_a holiness_n wherein_o both_o in_o carriage_n and_o word_n he_o do_v most_o sweet_o in_o probability_n savour_n of_o high_a enjoyment_n of_o god_n this_o be_v to_o be_v a_o testimony_n of_o the_o same_o to_o other_o though_o not_o to_o himself_o yet_o notwithstanding_o his_o rest_n be_v true_a holiness_n of_o a_o person_n make_v manifest_a in_o action_n flow_v from_o the_o justification_n of_o a_o soul_n make_v manifest_a in_o the_o spirit_n so_o that_o the_o true_a holiness_n or_o outward_a sanctification_n
attain_v qualification_n suitable_a to_o the_o law_n or_o else_o bring_v up_o into_o a_o high_a obedience_n to_o the_o law_n or_o he_o remain_v sensible_o miserable_a of_o the_o great_a misery_n in_o it_o then_o before_o which_o though_o it_o be_v more_o sad_a to_o the_o apprehension_n yet_o it_o be_v the_o way_n of_o god_n in_o the_o creature_n thus_o to_o frustrate_v the_o expectation_n of_o the_o creature_n in_o its_o labour_a to_o work_v happiness_n for_o itself_o until_o happiness_n be_v reveal_v within_o it_o the_o three_o cause_n be_v from_o the_o principle_n of_o nature_n and_o forth_o again_o from_o man_n unto_o god_n and_o before_o that_o though_o soul_n act_n never_o so_o glorious_o yet_o they_o be_v but_o adam_n run_v away_o from_o god_n and_o from_o the_o principle_n of_o nature_n clothe_v themselves_o gen._n 3._o 8._o which_o in_o time_n though_o man_n rest_v upon_o it_o prove_v self_n righteousness_n or_o a_o righteousness_n according_a to_o the_o law_n and_o not_o the_o righteo_n usnesse_n of_o god_n by_o faith_n and_o so_o his_o rest_n and_o peace_n shall_v be_v take_v from_o he_o and_o destroy_v in_o he_o 4._o the_o cause_n from_o which_o his_o thus_o act_v flow_v be_v from_o self-love_n and_o this_o will_v go_v beyond_o any_o thing_n former_o mention_v self-love_n in_o the_o gain_n of_o its_o own_o end_n will_v think_v nothing_o too_o difficult_a to_o attempt_v nothing_o too_o dear_a to_o part_v withal_o unless_o the_o thing_n we_o be_v now_o speak_v of_o which_o be_v man_n self_n when_o a_o man_n be_v swallow_v up_o with_o self_n instead_o of_o be_v swallow_v up_o with_o god_n whatsoever_o the_o creature_n be_v put_v upon_o when_o swallow_v up_o with_o god_n this_o creature_n thus_o lead_v forth_o out_o of_o self-love_n will_v resemble_v the_o same_o if_o not_o go_v beyond_o it_o nothing_o that_o stand_v in_o the_o way_n of_o the_o creature_n thus_o possess_v be_v too_o dear_a to_o it_o or_o too_o hard_a to_o attempt_v it_o happiness_n hand_v out_o in_o the_o law_n to_o those_o that_o keep_v it_o as_o namely_o do_v this_o and_o live_v it_o never_o consider_v what_o it_o can_v do_v and_o now_o can_v do_v but_o now_o it_o labour_v to_o try_v what_o may_v be_v do_v that_o a_o undo_v soul_n may_v be_v make_v happy_a oh_o the_o consideration_n of_o happiness_n do_v so_o affect_v a_o soul_n convince_v of_o the_o want_n of_o it_o that_o as_o the_o love_n of_o god_n enjoy_v do_v draw_v out_o that_o soul_n that_o enjoy_v it_o too_o much_o for_o god_n so_o this_o soul_n possess_v with_o the_o love_n of_o self_n do_v draw_v out_o the_o creature_n not_o out_o of_o himself_o yet_o to_o do_v or_o act_v any_o thing_n that_o may_v procure_v happiness_n to_o itself_o also_o self-love_n in_o this_o particular_a will_v not_o free_o have_v all_o from_o god_n nor_o will_v it_o be_v behold_v to_o god_n for_o all_o than_o it_o shall_v have_v nothing_o to_o glory_n in_o but_o god_n witness_v those_o cry_n out_o must_v do_v by_o he_o and_o bring_v he_o as_o a_o empty_a soul_n to_o he_o who_o be_v the_o fountain_n of_o life_n and_o to_o be_v reveal_v in_o he_o now_o to_o take_v away_o a_o objection_n which_o be_v that_o the_o creature_n must_v labour_v though_o not_o for_o life_n yet_o for_o a_o manifestation_n of_o life_n to_o this_o i_o answer_v that_o the_o life_n whereby_o man_n act_v to_o god_n be_v by_o the_o power_n of_o life_n reveal_v from_o god_n for_o before_o it_o be_v re-revealed_n man_n be_v dead_a it_o be_v the_o reveal_n of_o life_n into_o man_n which_o give_v life_n to_o man_n so_o that_o not_o in_o god_n because_o declare_v in_o scripture_n but_o upon_o god_n because_o reveal_v and_o experience_v in_o he_o and_o so_o be_v full_o know_v by_o he_o the_o three_o way_n whereby_o this_o knowledge_n come_v to_o be_v attain_v be_v from_o the_o declaring_n of_o the_o experience_n of_o other_o he_o by_o the_o same_o store_v himself_o with_o point_n of_o experience_n as_o well_o as_o point_n of_o judgement_n and_o here_o he_o can_v speak_v all_o manner_n of_o language_n as_o well_o as_o those_o that_o enjoy_v truth_n in_o they_o so_o that_o he_o can_v speak_v of_o point_n of_o judgement_n with_o those_o that_o be_v for_o that_o discourse_n and_o point_n of_o experience_n with_o those_o that_o be_v for_o that_o have_v a_o form_n of_o both_o in_o his_o understanding_n and_o from_o that_o be_v able_a to_o make_v out_o himself_o as_o those_o who_o sweet_o in_o the_o power_n of_o truth_n enjoy_v god_n but_o for_o this_o latter_a he_o have_v but_o steal_v the_o word_n from_o his_o neighbour_n he_o have_v get_v his_o experience_n to_o discourse_v of_o and_o this_o be_v the_o great_a deceit_n of_o man_n spirit_n in_o our_o day_n for_o when_o they_o hear_v of_o a_o precious_a high_a truth_n of_o god_n which_o they_o never_o hear_v of_o before_o they_o either_o oppose_v it_o or_o else_o they_o get_v the_o form_n of_o it_o into_o their_o notion_n or_o understanding_n and_o the_o next_o upportunity_n they_o have_v they_o declare_v it_o â—â—_o their_o own_o whereas_o though_o they_o be_v convince_v of_o the_o truth_n of_o it_o yet_o they_o be_v to_o wait_v for_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o the_o power_n of_o it_o in_o themselves_o and_o that_o it_o may_v be_v seal_v by_o the_o spirit_n in_o they_o 1_o cor._n 4._o 19_o 20._o but_o many_o conceive_v if_o they_o can_v but_o remember_v a_o truth_n though_o they_o have_v it_o not_o in_o the_o power_n of_o it_o in_o themselves_o that_o the_o very_o believe_v of_o it_o and_o assent_v to_o it_o be_v the_o experience_n of_o it_o and_o these_o be_v those_o who_o have_v a_o form_n of_o god_n or_o the_o truth_n in_o their_o understanding_n and_o wanâ—_n the_o power_n of_o that_o truth_n in_o their_o condition_n be_v happy_a then_o i_o be_v much_o more_o in_o respect_n of_o what_o i_o have_v enjoy_v more_o than_o they_o i_o be_o not_o any_o way_n inferior_a to_o any_o almost_o sure_o i_o be_o in_o so_o that_o we_o see_v here_o that_o man_n may_v get_v thing_n into_o the_o head_n before_o they_o be_v in_o the_o life_n and_o power_n of_o they_o in_o the_o heart_n which_o if_o rest_v upon_o bring_v with_o it_o a_o dangerous_a consequence_n as_o 1._o it_o be_v the_o way_n to_o a_o high_a security_n and_o such_o a_o security_n be_v but_o carnal_a as_o be_v not_o without_o ground_n it_o be_v the_o way_n in_o the_o second_o place_n to_o a_o self-glorying_a and_o creature_n exalt_v and_o to_o the_o displace_n of_o god_n three_o it_o be_v the_o way_n to_o fall_v into_o all_o manner_n increase_n in_o knowledge_n he_o daily_o grow_v in_o knowledge_n be_v daily_o more_o establish_v on_o his_o own_o bottom_n though_o not_o so_o think_v by_o himself_o this_o daily_a increase_n of_o knowledge_n in_o himself_o the_o benefit_n that_o sometime_o be_v redound_v to_o other_o by_o that_o do_v increase_v the_o flame_n and_o add_v fuel_n to_o the_o fire_n of_o this_o false_a rest_n the_o second_o excellent_a part_n or_o gift_n upon_o which_o man_n rest_v be_v prayer_n and_o this_o be_v make_v a_o idol_n of_o by_o such_o party_n who_o rest_v upon_o it_o but_o first_o of_o all_o when_o a_o man_n set_v his_o face_n towards_o god_n it_o will_v glad_o pray_v but_o want_v this_o proper_a gift_n it_o use_v form_n but_o after_o it_o see_v the_o vanity_n of_o that_o dispensation_n and_o the_o emptiness_n of_o it_o it_o now_o will_v glad_o pray_v in_o the_o spirit_n and_o continual_o be_v complain_v for_o want_n of_o matter_n
to_o express_v in_o conclusion_n it_o attain_v matter_n to_o express_v and_o in_o the_o attain_n matter_n do_v much_o abuse_n the_o same_o but_o the_o mean_v most_o common_o wherein_o it_o do_v it_o so_o as_o now_o the_o poor_a creature_n can_v speak_v three_o or_o four_o hour_n in_o prayer_n and_o can_v hardly_o comprehend_v himself_o within_o the_o space_n of_o one_o hour_n and_o here_o lie_v the_o deceit_n of_o the_o heart_n that_o here_o the_o soul_n make_v his_o rest_n and_o this_o to_o be_v a_o sure_a evidence_n of_o his_o interest_n in_o god_n but_o alas_o how_o blind_a and_o unsound_a this_o present_a evidence_n be_v let_v scripture_n and_o experience_n testify_v for_o alas_o a_o hypocrite_n or_o one_o who_o at_o all_o know_v not_o god_n may_v excel_v in_o the_o seem_a glory_n of_o this_o part_n yea_o excel_v those_o that_o live_v in_o the_o high_a enjoyment_n of_o god_n and_o here_o many_o soul_n make_v this_o dispensation_n a_o mere_a idol_n they_o draw_v all_o their_o peace_n and_o comfort_n from_o it_o for_o if_o in_o this_o part_n the_o creature_n excel_v he_o will_v be_v the_o often_o use_v of_o it_o live_v most_o upon_o it_o draw_v most_o comfort_n from_o it_o and_o glory_v the_o most_o in_o it_o for_o if_o ever_o the_o creature_n be_v straighten_a in_o this_o particular_a he_o begin_v to_o droop_v and_o be_v sad_a and_o full_a of_o trouble_n but_o if_o either_o in_o public_a or_o private_a he_o be_v enlarge_v much_o again_o he_o be_v mighty_o refresh_v and_o lift_v up_o and_o second_o if_o at_o any_o time_n he_o can_v have_v those_o common_a opportunity_n or_o set_a time_n than_o all_o his_o peace_n be_v go_v and_o it_o be_v because_o his_o peace_n be_v ground_v upon_o his_o often_o pray_v and_o his_o great_a enlargement_n in_o so_o do_v and_o indeed_o the_o soul_n blindness_n lie_v here_o for_o the_o creature_n take_v his_o enlargement_n to_o be_v a_o manifestation_n or_o evidence_n of_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n now_o a_o man_n may_v pray_v long_o and_o often_o and_o excel_v all_o in_o external_a form_n and_o yet_o have_v none_o of_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n manifest_v at_o all_o in_o the_o same_o neither_o be_v a_o straightning_n of_o the_o creature_n in_o expression_n to_o be_v any_o cause_n of_o sorrow_n or_o trouble_n if_o god_n be_v manifest_a neither_o be_v it_o a_o evidence_n of_o his_o not_o be_v manifest_v within_o so_o here_o partly_o lie_v the_o ground_n of_o a_o soul_n thus_o rest_a or_o take_v satisfaction_n or_o peace_n to_o his_o spirit_n in_o this_o dispensation_n now_o i_o will_v not_o be_v mistake_v that_o i_o be_o speak_v against_o this_o form_n or_o dispensation_n when_o a_o man_n be_v not_o command_v by_o the_o form_n but_o he_o be_v command_v from_o a_o power_n within_o so_o as_o he_o command_v it_o and_o use_v the_o same_o according_a to_o the_o end_n for_o which_o it_o be_v appoint_v for_o i_o look_v upon_o the_o same_o as_o to_o be_v a_o dispensation_n of_o god_n but_o i_o look_v upon_o the_o rest_a in_o it_o or_o have_v peace_n by_o it_o to_o be_v a_o corruption_n of_o a_o man_n own_o heart_n and_o a_o deceit_n thereof_o first_o therefore_o i_o commend_v these_o thing_n follow_v to_o be_v consider_v of_o all_o that_o though_o a_o man_n shall_v be_v never_o so_o glorious_a or_o admirable_a in_o this_o particular_a dispensation_n so_o as_o in_o the_o same_o he_o may_v be_v able_a to_o speak_v a_o whole_a day_n together_o yet_o his_o heart_n in_o this_o may_v deceive_v he_o and_o if_o it_o do_v not_o yet_o it_o be_v no_o safe_a rest_n or_o cause_n of_o peace_n or_o satisfaction_n or_o there_o be_v no_o safety_n in_o the_o excellent_n part_n that_o can_v be_v receive_v but_o they_o take_v their_o wing_n and_o flee_v away_o and_o here_o be_v not_o that_o in_o they_o which_o man_n conceive_v second_o man_n may_v have_v these_o part_n in_o the_o glory_n of_o they_o and_o yet_o have_v no_o fellowship_n or_o commmnion_n with_o god_n in_o they_o and_o so_o they_o may_v be_v rather_o snare_n they_o sure_o rest_v nay_o if_o it_o be_v so_o as_o many_o soul_n do_v enjoy_v god_n in_o they_o or_o rather_o communion_n with_o god_n in_o the_o same_o yet_o it_o be_v neither_o the_o duty_n or_o enlargement_n which_o be_v or_o aught_o to_o be_v the_o rest_n but_o god_n make_v manifest_a in_o the_o same_o the_o three_o part_n or_o gift_n be_v humility_n and_o this_o sometime_o come_v some_o of_o these_o way_n follow_v 1._o either_o from_o a_o instinct_n or_o property_n in_o nature_n oâ—_n 2._o from_o a_o self-reasoning_a or_o 3_o from_o resemble_v the_o truth_n of_o humility_n that_o be_v in_o another_o or_o 4._o from_o or_o as_o a_o effect_n of_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o god_n first_o it_o be_v in_o many_o who_o in_o the_o least_o have_v no_o divinâ—_n working_n of_o god_n in_o they_o any_o way_n make_v manifest_a yet_o they_o be_v excellent_a in_o this_o very_a particular_a which_o make_v they_o very_o lovely_a in_o the_o eye_n of_o all_o man_n so_o that_o a_o little_a of_o god_n will_v be_v see_v in_o such_o a_o creature_n but_o mere_o without_o the_o manifestation_n of_o grace_n such_o soul_n do_v appear_v to_o be_v gracious_a such_o a_o spirit_n as_o this_o â—_o can_v hardly_o be_v give_v to_o passion_n but_o full_a of_o meekness_n and_o love_n and_o moderation_n and_o yet_o this_o party_n gift_n aâ—_n common_a or_o natural_a to_o he_o he_o can_v be_v almoâ—_n otherwise_o this_o disposition_n be_v so_o natural_a but_o other_o bâ—_n nature_n be_v of_o a_o turbulent_a spirit_n and_o full_a of_o pride_n anâ—_n choler_n which_o make_v he_o to_o become_v odious_a to_o all_o and_o hererupon_o when_o he_o become_v odious_a to_o himself_o he_o fall_v in_o the_o second_o place_n to_o reason_n thus_o o_o how_o lovely_a do_v other_o appear_v to_o i_o how_o humble_a and_o low_o be_v they_o what_o a_o proud_a spirit_n be_o i_o of_o how_o be_o hate_v and_o become_v almost_o odious_a to_o all_o i_o will_v go_v see_v if_o i_o can_v help_v this_o carriage_n of_o i_o now_o this_o soul_n one_o look_n to_o take_v away_o the_o effect_n though_o the_o cause_n abide_v and_o here_o he_o labour_v to_o frame_v his_o speech_n and_o his_o jesture_n and_o action_n and_o so_o by_o much_o pain_n get_v a_o form_n of_o humility_n and_o now_o carry_v himself_o very_o sweet_o towards_o all_o so_o that_o now_o there_o be_v a_o strong_a change_n wrought_v in_o this_o person_n so_o that_o he_o be_v admire_v by_o all_o and_o chief_o by_o himself_o who_o be_v of_o such_o a_o high_a carriage_n and_o of_o a_o proud_a and_o turbulent_a spirit_n and_o now_o he_o be_v of_o a_o calm_a and_o quiet_a spirit_n this_o appear_v to_o be_v a_o great_a change_n and_o so_o judge_v of_o it_o he_o be_v high_o exalt_v in_o his_o opinion_n of_o himself_o and_o conceive_v he_o have_v enjoy_v abundance_n of_o grace_n from_o god_n that_o have_v thus_o humble_v he_o when_o indeed_o he_o have_v it_o but_o in_o the_o form_n of_o it_o not_o in_o the_o power_n have_v the_o branch_n and_o effect_n take_v away_o for_o the_o present_a in_o the_o outward_a expression_n of_o it_o but_o transform_v into_o another_o shape_n and_o that_o be_v more_o inward_a make_v of_o he_o more_o spiritual_o proud_a and_o so_o have_v high_a conceit_n of_o the_o happiness_n of_o his_o condition_n and_o so_o rest_v second_o it_o reason_n thus_o god_n resist_v the_o proud_a and_o give_v grace_n to_o the_o humble_a 1_o pet._n 5._o 5._o now_o in_o his_o highness_n of_o carriage_n or_o turbulence_n of_o spirit_n he_o look_v upon_o his_o condition_n as_o to_o be_v resist_v of_o god_n whereupon_o he_o pray_v and_o use_v what_o mean_v he_o can_v to_o restrain_v himself_o say_v he_o it_o may_v be_v i_o may_v be_v i_o may_v come_v to_o in_o his_o understanding_n because_o the_o one_o excel_v the_o other_o in_o this_o part_n of_o memory_n and_o this_o make_v the_o one_o more_o esteem_v than_o the_o other_o and_o the_o one_o to_o appear_v more_o weak_a than_o the_o other_o but_o alas_o though_o all_o these_o be_v in_o one_o man_n in_o a_o high_a strain_n than_o i_o have_v declare_v yet_o they_o all_o be_v but_o a_o poor_a rest_n or_o cause_n of_o joy_n or_o contentment_n to_o any_o heart_n and_o true_o when_o god_n appear_v so_o as_o to_o manifest_v himself_o the_o soul_n shall_v see_v the_o weakness_n and_o folly_n of_o his_o spirit_n to_o be_v satisfy_v in_o the_o whole_a not_o to_o be_v any_o cause_n of_o rest_n though_o they_o be_v dispensation_n of_o god_n and_o be_v free_o give_v by_o god_n for_o all_o to_o have_v a_o time_n of_o peace_n and_o rest_n only_o because_o he_o apprehend_v his_o desperate_a wound_n to_o be_v cure_v and_o thus_o soul_n do_v in_o a_o time_n of_o strait_n accept_v of_o scripture_n in_o this_o case_n to_o be_v the_o only_a teacher_n whereupon_o he_o give_v himself_o to_o a_o diligent_a search_n of_o the_o same_o where_o he_o meet_v withal_o some_o place_n how_o the_o saint_n be_v former_o qualify_v and_o these_o preparation_n they_o have_v within_o they_o whereupon_o he_o set_v a_o labour_a with_o his_o own_o heart_n to_o bring_v it_o into_o such_o a_o estate_n of_o mourning_n humiliation_n or_o repentance_n with_o hunger_a after_o god_n as_o also_o loathe_v fin_n and_o have_v a_o weariness_n and_o burden_n under_o it_o and_o when_o he_o have_v thus_o do_v here_o lie_v the_o angel-like_o design_n sometime_o of_o satan_n to_o come_v in_o the_o same_o manner_n and_o with_o the_o same_o effect_n to_o deceive_v that_o god_n come_v in_o with_o to_o save_v and_o so_o transform_v himself_o into_o god_n shape_n and_o one_o of_o the_o chief_a way_n he_o have_v be_v to_o apply_v himself_o in_o such_o a_o way_n of_o work_v like_o god_n as_o he_o may_v the_o a_o foundation_n as_o this_o yet_o this_o he_o do_v of_o purpose_n to_o deceive_v three_o man_n be_v own_o memory_n or_o fancy_n be_v upon_o some_o serious_a meditation_n may_v in_o the_o same_o manner_n and_o way_n bring_v and_o represent_v before_o the_o soul_n such_o a_o scripture_n and_o here_o lie_v most_o of_o the_o deceit_n of_o the_o fancy_n and_o and_o imagination_n thus_o to_o work_v this_o way_n there_o come_v in_o a_o scripture_n into_o the_o thought_n of_o such_o a_o soul_n fancy_n and_o imagination_n to_o drive_v on_o his_o own_o design_n make_v it_o as_o it_o be_v a_o nose_n of_o wax_n to_o apply_v it_o to_o what_o use_n or_o way_n he_o please_v yet_o he_o will_v make_v it_o the_o ground_n of_o his_o imagination_n and_o fancy_n and_o so_o man_n this_o way_n come_v to_o rest_n upon_o a_o deceit_n and_o fiction_n and_o not_o upon_o any_o ground_n in_o the_o glorious_a manifestation_n of_o god_n now_o scripture_n it_o be_v true_a do_v display_v in_o a_o mystery_n most_o precious_a thing_n which_o if_o a_o soul_n do_v enjoy_v they_o their_z thus_o enjoy_v of_o the_o truth_n there_o display_v will_v be_v a_o rest_n unto_o they_o but_o so_o long_o as_o a_o man_n read_v truth_n in_o the_o letter_n without_o he_o until_o he_o can_v read_v it_o in_o the_o spirit_n within_o he_o there_o be_v little_a cause_n of_o rest_n to_o such_o a_o heart_n as_o instance_n for_o a_o man_n to_o be_v overwhelm_v in_o gross_a darkness_n and_o in_o this_o darkness_n the_o soul_n not_o able_a to_o behold_v the_o glory_n of_o god_n now_o from_o his_o read_n in_o scripture_n he_o see_v god_n there_o express_v to_o be_v a_o light_n and_o to_o be_v full_a of_o glory_n yet_o notwithstanding_o from_o the_o fight_n of_o this_o in_o scripture_n though_o he_o want_v this_o who_o have_v go_v through_o this_o dispensation_n and_o have_v believe_v this_o to_o be_v a_o truth_n when_o now_o alas_o they_o see_v that_o they_o be_v both_o ignorant_a of_o what_o this_o christ_n be_v or_o what_o be_v mean_v by_o his_o death_n want_v the_o knowledge_n of_o it_o in_o themselves_o now_o the_o terror_n of_o death_n have_v or_o do_v seize_v upon_o they_o and_o instead_o of_o be_v
