because_o we_o feel_v not_o the_o like_a temptation_n for_o they_o that_o zeal_n have_v no_o sight_n of_o their_o corruption_n know_v not_o their_o unbelief_n and_o they_o that_o feel_v not_o their_o unbelief_n feel_v not_o the_o necessity_n of_o this_o strengthen_n of_o their_o faith_n and_o as_o they_o that_o know_v not_o their_o unbelief_n know_v nothing_o so_o they_o that_o believe_v and_o see_v their_o unbelief_n know_v this_o to_o be_v necessary_a they_o then_o that_o have_v a_o true_a trial_n of_o their_o unbelief_n know_v this_o faith_n to_o be_v a_o rare_a gift_n of_o god_n so_o that_o the_o prophet_n commend_v the_o word_n of_o god_n here_o of_o experience_n for_o he_o say_v thy_o word_n be_v prove_v most_o pure_a his_o meaning_n be_v this_o this_o be_v the_o cause_n why_o i_o be_o so_o zealous_a even_o because_o i_o love_v thy_o word_n and_o therefore_o o'lord_n i_o love_v thy_o word_n because_o i_o find_v it_o by_o proof_n to_o be_v so_o pure_a that_o we_o then_o may_v make_v this_o our_o rule_n for_o examination_n why_o be_v we_o so_o cold_a in_o zeal_n even_o because_o we_o be_v cold_a in_o the_o love_n of_o the_o word_n for_o as_o our_o love_n increase_v so_o increase_v also_o our_o delight_n and_o grief_n our_o delight_n to_o see_v the_o thing_n love_v to_o have_v happy_a proceed_n our_o grief_n to_o see_v the_o thing_n which_o we_o love_v to_o be_v despise_v this_o we_o see_v to_o be_v in_o every_o kind_n of_o love_n for_o a_o man_n that_o true_o love_v his_o wifâ—_n can_v abide_v to_o see_v his_o wife_n contemn_v and_o discredit_v nor_o the_o woman_n that_o true_o love_v her_o husband_n can_v abide_v to_o see_v he_o reject_v and_o despise_v when_o we_o love_v our_o friend_n we_o be_v grieve_v to_o see_v any_o contempt_n offer_v unto_o he_o this_o than_o we_o see_v in_o the_o nature_n of_o true_a love_n to_o rejoice_v to_o see_v the_o person_n love_v advance_a or_o the_o thing_n which_o we_o love_v esteem_v and_o grieve_v to_o see_v either_o the_o person_n or_o thing_n so_o love_v to_o be_v cast_v down_o and_o contemn_v it_o be_v a_o grief_n even_o to_o the_o heathenish_a philosopher_n to_o see_v their_o doctrine_n not_o regard_v be_v they_o so_o move_v for_o the_o small_a regard_n of_o that_o earthly_a doctrine_n which_o have_v no_o exact_a truth_n in_o it_o but_o be_v mingle_v with_o infinite_a error_n and_o untruth_n and_o shall_v not_o we_o much_o more_o be_v move_v to_o see_v the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o have_v so_o exact_a a_o truth_n and_o no_o untruth_n contemn_v and_o little_o set_v by_o wherefore_o when_o we_o have_v not_o this_o godly_a grief_n in_o we_o it_o be_v a_o manifest_a argument_n that_o our_o love_n be_v very_o cold_a for_o as_o our_o love_n be_v the_o great_a so_o undoubted_o our_o grief_n will_v be_v the_o great_a and_o so_o as_o our_o love_n be_v the_o less_o so_o will_v our_o grief_n to_o see_v the_o thing_n deface_v be_v also_o the_o less_o when_o we_o have_v much_o delight_n in_o any_o thing_n we_o be_v much_o grieve_v and_o who_o be_v more_o grieve_v to_o see_v the_o word_n of_o god_n tread_v down_o than_o the_o godly_a because_o of_o all_o other_o their_o delight_n be_v most_o in_o it_o not_o without_o cause_n than_o be_v this_o love_n commend_v unto_o we_o to_o be_v a_o token_n of_o our_o zeal_n and_o therefore_o we_o see_v psalm_n 67._o the_o church_n praise_v a_o easy_a thing_n because_o it_o be_v a_o thing_n whereto_o of_o necessity_n we_o must_v yield_v but_o also_o of_o our_o inferior_n who_o we_o may_v seem_v to_o contemn_v for_o all_o man_n will_v grant_v that_o a_o child_n ought_v willing_o to_o be_v admonish_v of_o his_o father_n or_o a_o servant_n ought_v obedient_o to_o be_v reprehend_v of_o his_o master_n but_o few_o will_n in_o practice_n superior_n but_o most_o just_o exasperate_v they_o against_o they_o for_o as_o magistrate_n minister_n and_o master_n by_o god_n his_o ordinance_n be_v to_o admonish_v rebuke_n and_o reprehend_v so_o subject_n inferior_n and_o servant_n by_o the_o same_o rule_n be_v to_o advise_v obey_v and_o advertise_v thus_o zeal_n go_v from_o respect_n of_o the_o person_n to_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o cause_n another_o property_n of_o zeal_n be_v to_o be_v constant_a not_o to_o be_v hot_a by_o fit_n cold_a in_o the_o end_n and_o propertie_n only_o so_o long_o as_o the_o world_n favour_v it_o must_v not_o be_v earnest_a in_o the_o beginning_n and_o secure_a in_o the_o end_n but_o keep_v a_o continual_a tenor_n and_o temperature_n job_n wife_n seem_v to_o go_v far_o so_o long_o as_o she_o can_v wash_v her_o path_n with_o butter_n saul_n and_o pharaoh_n have_v some_o good_a motion_n by_o fit_n &_o upon_o some_o occasion_n can_v play_v fast_o and_o loose_a be_v of_o a_o strange_a complexion_n that_o they_o can_v be_v hot_a &_o cold_a in_o a_o moment_n this_o property_n of_o zeal_n teach_v we_o sad_a how_o to_o be_v affect_v in_o the_o prosperity_n and_o affliction_n of_o the_o church_n namely_o that_o the_o public_a prosperity_n of_o zion_n shall_v comfort_v we_o &_o cause_v we_o to_o rejoice_v when_o our_o private_a cross_n may_v make_v we_o sad_a as_o paul_n be_v imprison_v be_v not_o so_o by_o admonish_v they_o of_o their_o fault_n in_o time_n prevent_v the_o judgement_n of_o god_n they_o do_v through_o a_o false_a love_n and_o manifest_a hatred_n pull_v the_o judgement_n of_o god_n upon_o they_o who_o they_o love_v most_o dear_o he_o love_v most_o natural_o that_o have_v learned_a to_o love_v spiritual_o and_o he_o love_v most_o sincere_o that_o can_v abide_v sin_n in_o the_o party_n love_v without_o some_o wholesome_a admonition_n but_o do_v not_o many_o now_o adays_o zealous_o mislike_v sin_n in_o stranger_n who_o will_v not_o mislike_v the_o selfsame_o sin_n if_o it_o they_o whereby_o they_o bewray_v their_o great_a corruption_n that_o they_o neither_o be_v zealous_a in_o truth_n or_o god_n glory_n nor_o lover_n aright_o of_o their_o child_n because_o they_o can_v be_v sharp_a enough_o in_o reprehension_n if_o they_o fail_v but_o a_o little_a in_o thriftines_n &_o yet_o be_v cold_a enough_o in_o admonition_n if_o they_o fail_v never_o so_o much_o in_o godliness_n well_o let_v these_o fleshly_a zealous_a man_n lay_v to_o their_o heart_n the_o blind_a affection_n of_o helâ—_n who_o be_v the_o dear_a child_n of_o god_n be_v severe_o punish_v of_o even_o with_o jeopardy_n of_o nature_n can_v defend_v the_o quarrel_n of_o god_n henceforth_o labour_v to_o know_v no_o man_n after_o the_o flesh_n but_o to_o endeavour_n spiritual_o by_o faith_n to_o see_v and_o know_v christ_n jesus_n so_o as_o no_o outward_a league_n do_v blear_a and_o dazzle_v our_o eye_n as_o that_o we_o shall_v not_o espy_v sin_n in_o the_o near_a kindred_n to_o correct_v it_o or_o that_o we_o shall_v not_o discern_v virtue_n in_o the_o great_a alien_n to_o reverence_v it_o cast_v off_o then_o this_o veil_n of_o fleshly_a love_n we_o must_v labour_v to_o love_v most_o where_o the_o image_n of_o god_n appear_v most_o &_o there_o show_v our_o affection_n in_o less_o measure_n where_o sin_n may_v be_v as_o a_o mark_n whereby_o god_n restrain_v our_o love_n even_o to_o they_o where_o nature_n may_v soon_o deceive_v us._n now_o whereas_o many_o have_v great_a courage_n to_o rebuke_v such_o as_o either_o can_v gainsay_v they_o or_o gainsay_v they_o can_v prevail_v against_o they_o here_o come_v another_o property_n of_o zeal_n zeal_n to_o be_v speak_v of_o and_o that_o be_v that_o it_o fear_v not_o the_o face_n of_o the_o mighty_a neither_o be_v it_o dismay_v who_o although_o we_o have_v the_o general_a rule_n of_o our_o do_n yet_o fail_v in_o the_o particular_a practice_n thereof_o i_o believe_v he_o confess_v that_o all_o wisdom_n be_v in_o god_n word_n to_o by_o affliction_n and_o which_o will_v bring_v affliction_n upon_o us._n if_o he_o will_v hear_v when_o we_o humble_o cry_v in_o affliction_n how_o much_o more_o if_o we_o make_v our_o humble_a die_v to_o sin_n and_o that_o sin_n be_v loathsome_a to_o we_o then_o be_v it_o a_o token_n of_o god_n favour_n for_o afflction_n be_v common_a to_o all_o eccles._n 9_o but_o when_o we_o profit_v by_o they_o then_o be_v they_o good_a to_o us._n for_o if_o good_a thing_n become_v hurtful_a if_o they_o be_v not_o sanctify_v much_o more_o shall_v affliction_n if_o they_o be_v not_o sanctify_v in_o charitable_a kind_n of_o deal_v to_o pray_v against_o enemy_n because_o love_n require_v that_o we_o shall_v pray_v for_o our_o enemy_n how_o then_o do_v this_o agree_v with_o the_o rule_n of_o love_n or_o shall_v we_o think_v that_o the_o man_n of_o god_n do_v any_o thing_n here_o against_o enemy_n the_o law_n of_o charity_n we_o have_v show_v that_o the_o child_n of_o god_n be_v never_o enkindle_v with_o wrath_n for_o their_o own_o cause_n but_o for_o the_o breach_n of_o the_o law_n of_o god_n so_o this_o man_n of_o god_n have_v no_o respect_n of_o himself_o but_o of_o god_n law_n his_o cause_n be_v good_a his_o persecutor_n cause_n be_v evil_a he_o hurt_v they_o not_o but_o labour_v by_o all_o mean_n to_o overcome_v they_o with_o good_a he_o do_v not_o for_o a_o while_n but_o continue_v long_o in_o it_o he_o be_v not_o weary_a of_o his_o well_o do_v but_o go_v forward_o even_o to_o the_o very_o fail_v of_o his_o eye_n yea_o his_o eye_n as_o he_o say_v in_o the_o last_o verse_n of_o port._n 7._o gush_v out_o with_o tear_n because_o their_o sin_n be_v so_o great_a he_o seek_v peace_n &_o ensue_v it_o and_o yet_o he_o see_v no_o amendment_n but_o that_o they_o be_v a_o good_a cause_n and_o see_v that_o we_o have_v persevere_v in_o execute_v judgement_n and_o justice_n and_o yet_o the_o iniquity_n of_o our_o adversary_n lay_v itself_o so_o open_a that_o it_o grow_v desperate_a than_o we_o may_v desire_v the_o lord_n to_o take_v his_o cause_n into_o his_o own_o hand_n and_o here_o we_o be_v to_o observe_v the_o prophet_n say_v they_o have_v etc._n etc._n where_o he_o note_v not_o any_o particular_a person_n nor_o make_v mention_n of_o the_o destruction_n of_o any_o singular_a man_n but_o use_v a_o general_a rule_n wherefore_o for_o our_o instruction_n these_o rule_n be_v more_o diligent_o to_o be_v observe_v first_o we_o be_v to_o look_v that_o our_o cause_n be_v good_a and_o our_o adversary_n cause_n be_v evil_a second_o enemy_n that_o we_o be_v prophet_n we_o shall_v see_v this_o to_o be_v true_a as_o first_o we_o may_v see_v in_o the_o first_o second_o three_o six_o seven_o and_o eight_o of_o isaiah_n the_o prophet_n of_o god_n threaten_v the_o israelite_n that_o because_o they_o come_v to_o worship_n of_o a_o custom_n but_o lay_v still_o in_o their_o sin_n because_o they_o be_v rebellious_a give_v to_o pleasure_n and_o contemner_n from_o the_o common_a destruction_n as_o he_o do_v here_o david_n who_o though_o not_o this_o general_a contempt_n of_o the_o word_n yet_o some_o sin_n he_o have_v this_o be_v then_o in_o the_o child_n of_o god_n true_o call_v that_o although_o sometime_o more_o carnal_a than_o spiritual_a and_o slide_v into_o many_o want_n and_o infirmity_n yet_o they_o fall_v not_o from_o one_o sin_n to_o another_o sin_n but_o they_o tremble_v be_v rebuke_v by_o the_o word_n they_o esteem_v reverent_o of_o the_o prayer_n of_o the_o faithful_a they_o think_v high_o of_o the_o sacrament_n use_v in_o but_o we_o must_v narrow_o search_v into_o our_o heart_n to_o see_v what_o cause_n have_v move_v we_o so_o to_o do_v for_o if_o we_o do_v not_o with_o sorrow_n repent_v we_o of_o our_o wickedness_n undoubted_o true_a that_o those_o man_n be_v deceive_v by_o their_o own_o heart_n which_o be_v not_o right_a with_o god_n if_o there_o be_v any_o conscience_n if_o there_o be_v any_o heart_n or_o spirit_n in_o man_n they_o will_v profit_v something_o or_o at_o least_o they_o will_v be_v great_o grieve_v for_o their_o not_o profit_v moreover_o when_o we_o have_v bring_v our_o purpose_n to_o
