our_o misery_n as_o if_o we_o be_v dead_a in_o deed_n &_o as_o if_o we_o feel_v that_o death_n whereof_o the_o scripture_n speak_v that_o we_o may_v attain_v to_o that_o life_n which_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n offer_v unto_o we_o by_o his_o gospel_n and_o this_o be_v the_o cause_n why_o the_o scripture_n so_o often_o reprove_v and_o as_o it_o be_v condemn_v we_o for_o our_o sin_n for_o god_n take_v no_o pleasure_n in_o deal_v with_o we_o after_o this_o manner_n but_o because_o he_o know_v the_o necessity_n thereof_o so_o then_o look_v how_o many_o threaten_n sentence_n of_o condemnation_n of_o reproof_n and_o such_o like_a be_v in_o the_o holy_a scripture_n they_o be_v even_o so_o many_o mallette_n to_o knock_v we_o on_o the_o head_n to_o bring_v we_o unto_o that_o so_o by_o little_a and_o little_o be_v quite_o and_o clean_o exclude_v from_o it_o now_o god_n have_v set_v before_o we_o our_o condemation_n namely_o in_o the_o law_n and_o in_o very_a deed_n all_o the_o scripture_n be_v full_a of_o they_o and_o when_o it_o be_v say_v that_o it_o be_v profitable_a among_o other_o thing_n it_o lay_v out_o the_o reproof_n and_o beside_o we_o know_v what_o the_o gospel_n teach_v 4.17_o 2._o tim._n 3.16_o mat._n 3.2_o &_o 4.17_o repent_v and_o amend_v for_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n be_v at_o hand_n thus_o we_o see_v how_o god_n dispose_v his_o elect_a to_o receive_v the_o free_a righteousness_n which_o he_o bestow_v upon_o they_o by_o his_o son_n which_o be_v that_o we_o shall_v repent_v and_o amend_v and_o what_o be_v the_o meaning_n hereof_o forsooth_o there_o must_v be_v such_o a_o sorrow_n and_o grief_n in_o we_o for_o our_o sin_n as_o that_o we_o must_v condemn_v ourselves_o for_o our_o wickedness_n and_o be_v revenge_v of_o yet_o notwithstanding_o say_v that_o he_o still_o presume_v on_o his_o virtue_n and_o think_v himself_o to_o be_v a_o very_a righteous_a man_n because_o he_o know_v
the_o law_n and_o rest_v thereon_o and_o utter_o contemn_v the_o grace_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n and_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n forsooth_o because_o he_o look_v no_o further_o but_o unto_o the_o dead_a letter_n and_o outward_a show_n thereof_o as_o when_o it_o be_v say_v thou_o shall_v not_o kill_v in_o very_a deed_n he_o right_o well_o know_v that_o he_o be_v no_o murderer_n afterward_o it_o be_v say_v thou_o shall_v not_o commit_v adultery_n never_o any_o man_n know_v he_o to_o be_v a_o lecher_n or_o whoremaster_n next_o after_n thou_o shall_v not_o steal_v neither_o and_o tie_v unto_o he_o let_v we_o look_v after_o none_o other_o good_a felicity_n nor_o rejoice_v but_o to_o glorify_v he_o let_v there_o be_v never_o hear_v from_o our_o mouth_n any_o thing_n else_o come_v to_o speak_v of_o prayer_n for_o this_o action_n shall_v cause_v we_o that_o be_v here_o beneath_o on_o the_o earth_n to_o have_v our_o cogitation_n in_o heaven_n because_o we_o be_v then_o as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o presence_n of_o our_o god_n and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o when_o we_o do_v pray_v what_o a_o number_n of_o frivolous_a imagination_n shall_v we_o have_v in_o our_o head_n which_o will_v hold_v we_o their_o captive_n and_o see_v it_o be_v so_o what_o must_v be_v the_o rest_n of_o our_o whole_a life_n even_o the_o like_a will_v become_v of_o all_o the_o commandment_n so_o then_o we_o see_v how_o the_o law_n drive_v we_o so_o to_o enter_v to_o examine_v &_o try_v our_o life_n that_o we_o shall_v find_v no_o hope_n in_o ourselves_o but_o be_v drive_v to_o seek_v the_o begin_n of_o our_o righteousness_n at_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n his_o hand_n now_o we_o see_v that_o these_o two_o thing_n be_v as_o contrary_v one_o to_o another_o as_o fire_n and_o water_n as_o to_o be_v account_v righteous_a before_o god_n by_o our_o work_n and_o to_o be_v accept_v of_o he_o by_o the_o virtue_n and_o power_n of_o faith_n for_o as_o saint_n paul_n say_v if_o we_o shall_v bring_v any_o thing_n that_o be_v we_o no_o doubt_n of_o it_o god_n shall_v then_o be_v behold_v unto_o we_o although_o we_o be_v neither_o whole_o nor_o yet_o perfect_o righteous_a yet_o how_o ever_o it_o be_v there_o may_v some_o proportionable_a reward_n be_v do_v unto_o us._n but_o it_o be_v say_v that_o faith_n and_o work_n can_v never_o agree_v together_o and_o therefore_o this_o must_v be_v our_o conclusion_n that_o when_o we_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n work_n must_v needs_o cease_v and_o be_v nothing_o worth_a now_o this_o at_o the_o first_o sight_n may_v seem_v to_o be_v a_o hard_a kind_n of_o speech_n to_o wit_n that_o faith_n and_o good_a work_n can_v never_o go_v together_o for_o it_o may_v seem_v that_o if_o faith_n only_o justifi_v that_o the_o reins_n be_v slack_v and_o let_v lose_v to_o all_o iniquity_n 3.12_o gal._n 3.12_o now_o s._n paul_n speak_v this_o according_a to_o a_o certain_a quality_n and_o regard_n as_o he_o also_o speak_v of_o the_o law_n and_o faith_n the_o law_n say_v he_o can_v no_o way_n agree_v with_o faith_n for_o they_o be_v two_o incompatible_a thing_n and_o in_o what_o sort_n for_o be_v not_o god_n as_o well_o the_o author_n of_o the_o law_n as_o of_o the_o gospel_n be_v there_o any_o contrariety_n or_o repugnancy_n in_o he_o without_o doubt_v no_o for_o he_o be_v unchangeable_a why_o then_o find_v s._n paul_n such_o a_o contrariety_n between_o the_o law_n and_o the_o gospel_n forsooth_o it_o be_v in_o respect_n of_o our_o justification_n and_o even_o so_o be_v it_o between_o faith_n &_o work_n and_o the_o contrariety_n be_v this_o because_o work_n be_v make_v merit_n and_o that_o which_o be_v more_o we_o can_v do_v no_o good_a work_n but_o by_o faith_n as_o we_o have_v already_o say_v and_o hereafter_o shall_v be_v more_o large_o handle_v for_o the_o cause_n and_o the_o effect_n be_v not_o contrary_n but_o when_o we_o will_v establish_v any_o merit_n in_o our_o work_n that_o be_v to_o say_v when_o as_o we_o will_v go_v about_o to_o make_v they_o available_a to_o obtain_v favour_n at_o god_n hand_n &_o to_o satisfy_v for_o our_o sin_n to_o be_v short_a when_o as_o we_o will_v bring_v they_o in_o to_o serve_v we_o for_o our_o salvation_n this_o be_v utter_o to_o overthrow_v faith_n &_o by_o this_o mean_n make_v it_o of_o no_o worth_n thus_o than_o we_o see_v that_o it_o be_v not_o without_o cause_n why_o saint_n paul_n conclude_v thus_o that_o see_v we_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n then_o be_v work_n of_o no_o value_n but_o must_v be_v quite_o and_o clean_o shut_v out_o of_o the_o door_n for_o any_o opinion_n that_o we_o ought_v to_o attribute_v unto_o merit_n or_o virtue_n whereby_o to_o please_v god_n withal_o now_o we_o be_v here_o eftsoon_o to_o note_v that_o god_n of_o his_o do_v what_o we_o lust_n be_v there_o any_o thing_n in_o we_o that_o be_v our_o own_o no_o very_o and_o therefore_o can_v we_o plead_v any_o merit_n albeit_o we_o perfect_o fulfil_v the_o law_n whereupon_o then_o depend_v the_o confidence_n which_o we_o take_v in_o our_o work_n forsooth_o even_o upon_o this_o promise_n that_o whosoever_o shall_v do_v these_o thing_n shall_v live_v by_o they_o for_o god_n bind_v himself_o hereunto_o of_o his_o own_o accord_n albeit_o he_o be_v not_o in_o reason_n tie_v unto_o it_o wherefore_o when_o as_o s._n paul_n speak_v of_o the_o work_n of_o make_v they_o acceptable_a before_o god_n but_o contrariwise_o that_o jesus_n christ_n must_v come_v to_o justify_v we_o of_o those_o thing_n whereof_o the_o law_n be_v never_o able_a to_o do_v what_o be_v mean_v by_o this_o say_n to_o justify_v we_o of_o thing_n that_o be_v to_o say_v to_o pardon_v and_o forgive_v we_o they_o we_o see_v now_o by_o this_o place_n which_o i_o have_v already_o speak_v of_o that_o the_o righteousness_n which_o moses_n here_o speak_v of_o be_v not_o a_o thing_n resident_a in_o our_o person_n but_o god_n free_a forgive_n of_o we_o when_o as_o he_o be_v merciful_a and_o love_a unto_o we_o albeit_o we_o be_v no_o whit_n worthy_a thereof_o for_o this_o which_o moses_n here_o set_v down_o shall_v never_o be_v able_a to_o be_v find_v in_o any_o man_n whatsoever_o but_o in_o jesus_n christ_n who_o must_v only_o justify_v we_o and_o how_o be_v that_o that_o be_v if_o the_o devil_n shall_v accuse_v we_o and_o god_n ready_a to_o judge_v and_o blood_n to_o wash_v we_o withal_o to_o be_v short_a we_o find_v in_o the_o person_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n whatsoever_o be_v requisite_a to_o make_v we_o acceptable_a before_o he_o because_o our_o sin_n be_v not_o impute_v unto_o us._n here_o then_o we_o see_v in_o sum_n what_o we_o be_v to_o remember_v from_o this_o place_n we_o be_v now_o to_o proceed_v somewhat_o further_o that_o be_v to_o say_v that_o when_o god_n have_v once_o for_o all_o receive_v we_o thus_o to_o mercy_n how_o he_o continue_v hold_v and_o vow_v we_o for_o righteous_a all_o the_o day_n of_o our_o life_n and_o even_o in_o death_n also_o for_o this_o be_v the_o principal_a point_n whereat_o we_o must_v aim_v &_o come_v unto_o howbeit_o we_o can_v at_o this_o time_n stand_v to_o handle_v it_o let_v it_o suffice_v they_o to_o the_o end_n thing_n may_v be_v well_o keep_v in_o mind_n that_o we_o know_v &_o understand_v what_o the_o open_a way_n be_v that_o we_o must_v have_v to_o be_v partaker_n of_o the_o everlasting_a salvation_n which_o come_v unto_o we_o by_o jesus_n christ_n the_o son_n of_o god_n that_o be_v we_o must_v know_v &_o understand_v how_o miserable_a &_o wretched_a our_o state_n and_o condition_n be_v not_o by_o confess_v the_o same_o with_o our_o mouth_n only_o or_o have_v a_o vain_a imagination_n swim_v in_o our_o brain_n thereof_o but_o to_o be_v so_o sorrowful_o wound_v and_o greeve_v as_o that_o we_o be_v confound_v before_o the_o majesty_n of_o god_n even_o to_o the_o very_o hate_v &_o detest_a of_o our_o own_o self_n and_o when_o we_o shall_v thus_o right_o judge_v of_o ourselves_o then_o shall_v we_o be_v sure_a that_o god_n will_v forgive_v us._n and_o when_o we_o shall_v be_v thus_o mortify_v in_o ourselves_o then_o shall_v we_o find_v life_n in_o jesus_n christ_n for_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o that_o we_o know_v ourselves_o to_o be_v very_o wretched_a sick_a creature_n and_o poor_a and_o needy_a souleâ—â—_n but_o we_o must_v be_v dead_a altogether_o to_o the_o end_n we_o may_v by_o the_o only_a grace_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n be_v reviue_v and_o that_o hereupon_o we_o may_v be_v so_o humble_v as_o the_o scripture_n will_v we_o which_o be_v to_o give_v unto_o god_n that_o honour_n that_o be_v due_a unto_o he_o and_o it_o be_v not_o without_o cause_n that_o david_n speak_v 51.17_o psal_n 51.17_o when_o as_o he_o say_v that_o it_o be_v a_o humble_a and_o contrite_a heart_n which_o god_n require_v for_o we_o shall_v never_o come_v unto_o he_o except_o we_o be_v altogether_o cast_v down_o in_o ourselves_o and_o then_o but_o we_o must_v also_o labour_v continual_o to_o increase_v our_o faith_n as_o it_o be_v very_o needful_a because_o it_o will_v ever_o be_v weak_a and_o to_o be_v short_a we_o must_v still_o go_v on_o from_o fâ—ith_n to_o faith_n it_o be_v say_v that_o god_n give_v the_o land_n of_o chanaan_n to_o abram_n it_o be_v in_o very_a deed_n already_o give_v he_o as_o we_o have_v hear_v in_o the_o able_a to_o abide_v either_o cold_a or_o heat_n not_o able_a to_o away_o with_o skirmish_v nor_o to_o be_v always_o in_o watch_n and_o ward_n but_o he_o that_o be_v long_o use_v hereunto_o shall_v be_v far_o betterable_a to_o endure_v these_o thing_n even_o so_o must_v it_o fare_v with_o we_o that_o when_o the_o lord_n shall_v have_v exercise_v we_o every_o manner_n of_o way_n we_o shall_v be_v so_o much_o the_o more_o able_a and_o ready_a the_o better_a and_o long_o to_o continue_v and_o although_o it_o shall_v seem_v to_o we_o that_o god_n deal_v very_o severe_o with_o we_o in_o lay_v too_o great_a load_n upon_o we_o yet_o let_v not_o we_o think_v our_o case_n to_o be_v strange_a and_o why_o so_o because_o we_o see_v here_o a_o pattern_n thereof_o in_o our_o father_n abraham_n make_v manifest_a at_o the_o last_o day_n and_o therefore_o he_o have_v no_o need_n to_o sound_v and_o try_v we_o faith_n affliction_n be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n and_o trial_n of_o out_o faith_n for_o he_o do_v that_o that_o be_v in_o we_o but_o this_o be_v refer_v to_o the_o probation_n of_o our_o faith_n for_o as_o we_o have_v already_o say_v god_n will_v not_o have_v his_o gift_n to_o be_v unprofitable_a but_o will_v apply_v they_o to_o some_o use_n to_o the_o end_n he_o may_v thereby_o be_v glorify_v and_o we_o thereby_o also_o so_o much_o the_o better_o be_v confirm_v consider_v how_o wonderful_o he_o regard_v we_o and_o will_v have_v we_o with_o patience_n fight_v against_o all_o the_o assalt_v of_o satan_n &_o of_o the_o world_n that_o we_o thereby_o may_v find_v by_o experience_n that_o god_n be_v with_o we_o and_o love_v we_o wherefore_o we_o have_v good_a cause_n the_o more_o confident_o to_o call_v upon_o he_o to_o run_v unto_o he_o and_o stay_v ourselves_o upon_o his_o goodness_n and_o not_o to_o doubt_v of_o his_o help_n even_o unto_o the_o end_n salvation_n god_n tri_v we_o by_o affliction_n both_o for_o his_o own_o glory_n and_o also_o for_o our_o can_v so_o withdraw_v he_o as_o that_o he_o do_v not_o continual_o pursue_v his_o purpose_n because_o god_n guide_v he_o wherefore_o we_o see_v that_o he_o be_v strengthen_v from_o above_o for_o it_o be_v impossible_a for_o he_o as_o he_o be_v a_o man_n to_o be_v able_a to_o overcome_v these_o sharp_a temptation_n and_o therefore_o god_n strengthen_v he_o with_o a_o mighty_a and_o a_o outstretch_a arm_n but_o that_o which_o be_v here_o set_v down_o of_o he_o be_v write_v for_o our_o instruction_n to_o the_o end_n we_o may_v know_v that_o although_o abraham_n be_v even_o as_o weak_a a_o man_n as_o we_o be_v yet_o he_o still_o strive_v and_o overcome_v whatsoever_o be_v contrary_a unto_o his_o faith_n and_o that_o through_o the_o only_a assistance_n of_o god_n and_o although_o at_o this_o day_n we_o know_v our_o own_o weakness_n yet_o let_v we_o not_o as_o a_o great_a many_o do_v flatter_v and_o deceive_v ourselves_o therein_o but_o it_o be_v the_o thing_n that_o shall_v the_o rather_o stir_v we_o up_o and_o prick_v we_o forward_o to_o call_v upon_o god_n and_o look_v for_o that_o at_o his_o hand_n which_o be_v want_v in_o we_o and_o so_o persevere_v and_o continue_v as_o that_o although_o the_o devil_n shall_v devise_v every_o manner_n of_o way_n to_o make_v we_o grow_v dissolute_a and_o go_v backward_o yet_o let_v we_o continual_o go_v on_o still_o more_o and_o more_o a_o direct_a course_n for_o that_o which_o be_v here_o say_v of_o three_o day_n journey_n be_v to_o show_v unto_o we_o that_o we_o must_v continue_v so_o long_o as_o it_o please_v god_n true_a it_o be_v that_o we_o may_v for_o a_o while_n endure_v temptation_n yea_o perhaps_o a_o whole_a year_n yea_o ten_o peradventure_o all_o the_o day_n of_o our_o life_n and_o all_o this_o must_v be_v abide_v but_o here_o we_o be_v to_o note_v that_o abraham_n be_v after_o another_o manner_n of_o sort_n tempt_v even_o all_o his_o life_n long_o for_o after_o he_o have_v recover_v his_o son_n isaak_n yet_o be_v he_o will_v frame_v himself_o to_o his_o will_n to_o be_v make_v a_o burn_a offering_n unto_o god_n here_o we_o see_v why_o it_o be_v namely_o say_v that_o they_o go_v together_o and_o that_o isaak_n carry_v the_o wood_n wherefore_o let_v we_o learn_v so_o to_o submit_v ourselves_o unto_o the_o will_n of_o god_n as_o that_o although_o we_o must_v violent_o suppress_v our_o passion_n and_o bring_v ourselves_o under_o as_o we_o have_v already_o say_v yet_o let_v we_o free_o and_o of_o our_o own_o accord_n field_n ourselves_o unto_o he_o for_o all_o the_o faithful_a must_v thus_o strive_v and_o fight_v to_o wite_v that_o although_o they_o suffer_v never_o so_o much_o sorrow_n and_o grief_n and_o although_o god_n so_o lively_o exercise_v they_o as_o they_o be_v touch_v with_o some_o doubt_n and_o remorse_n of_o conscience_n and_o be_v sometime_o as_o it_o be_v tire_v with_o their_o perverse_a and_o wicked_a deal_n with_o god_n yet_o must_v they_o in_o the_o end_n conclude_v thus_o even_o to_o submit_v and_o subject_v themselves_o unto_o his_o will_n and_o not_o suffer_v their_o contrary_a affection_n so_o to_o hinder_v they_o from_o submit_v themselves_o unto_o he_o but_o that_o they_o willing_o and_o of_o their_o own_o accord_n submit_v themselves_o unto_o he_o both_o in_o life_n and_o death_n a_o example_n hereof_o we_o have_v in_o our_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n speak_v
