upon_o the_o true_a god_n and_o the_o knowledge_n of_o he_o they_o become_v vain_a in_o their_o imagination_n and_o endless_a in_o their_o seek_v out_o of_o false_a god_n and_o confidence_n therefore_o among_o pagan_n even_o in_o one_o ship_n there_o be_v more_o false_a god_n then_o one_o worship_v they_o cry_v every_o man_n to_o his_o god_n there_o be_v no_o certainty_n when_o the_o true_a god_n be_v forsake_v 5._o although_o man_n ought_v not_o to_o be_v unwilling_a to_o yield_v up_o their_o life_n to_o god_n when_o or_o wheresoever_o he_o in_o his_o providence_n shall_v be_v possible_o he_o have_v more_o power_n or_o good_a will_n to_o such_o as_o worship_v he_o then_o they_o have_v which_o be_v the_o first_o step_n to_o his_o discovery_n doct._n 1._o a_o child_n of_o god_n may_v sometime_o miscarry_v so_o far_o through_o infirmity_n negligence_n and_o tentation_n that_o even_o a_o pagan_a by_o nature_n light_n may_v see_v he_o reprovable_a and_o blame-worthy_a for_o so_o be_v jonah_n reprove_v by_o the_o shipmaster_n what_o mean_v thou_o etc._n etc._n 2._o it_o be_v deep_o censurable_a and_o absurd_a even_o to_o nature_n eye_n to_o be_v secure_a in_o trouble_n what_o mean_v thou_o o_o sleeper_n arise_v etc._n etc._n 3._o variety_n of_o false_a god_n hold_v man_n in_o great_a suspense_n and_o incertainty_n therefore_o every_o man_n have_v cry_v to_o his_o god_n ver_fw-la 5._o yet_o they_o be_v not_o settle_v but_o will_v have_v jonah_n to_o essay_n his_o god_n if_o he_o be_v better_o than_o the_o rest_n arise_v call_v upon_o thy_o god_n so_o much_o also_o do_v that_o doubtful_a speech_n if_o so_o be_v that_o god_n will_v think_v upon_o we_o etc._n etc._n import_n in_o this_o place_n in_o part_n 4._o nature_n light_n will_v acknowledge_v that_o he_o who_o be_v the_o true_a god_n have_v power_n to_o deliver_v in_o most_o extreme_a danger_n for_o in_o this_o great_a tempest_n they_o assert_v it_o if_o god_n think_v on_o we_o we_o will_v not_o perish_v 5._o howsoever_o in_o a_o calm_a day_n nature_n conceit_n and_o boast_v of_o merit_n yet_o in_o a_o strait_a even_o natural_a man_n be_v force_v to_o have_v their_o recourse_n only_o to_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n for_o these_o pagan_n have_v no_o ground_n of_o hope_n that_o they_o shall_v not_o perish_v but_o in_o god_n think_v or_o be_v bright_a and_o shine_a as_o the_o word_n common_a and_o ordinary_a cross_n or_o to_o look_v on_o common_a and_o ordinary_a sin_n as_o provocation_n sufficient_a to_o bring_v on_o sad_a trial_n for_o they_o must_v seek_v some_o singular_a cause_n here_o far_o less_o to_o look_v on_o affliction_n as_o trial_n of_o faith_n or_o for_o prevent_v of_o sin_n 2._o man_n in_o nature_n use_v not_o so_o much_o to_o take_v up_o and_o be_v sensible_a of_o sin_n from_o the_o law_n of_o god_n have_v authority_n in_o their_o heart_n as_o grope_v it_o in_o some_o trial_n and_o difficulty_n therefore_o they_o of_o who_o sense_n of_o guilt_n we_o hear_v not_o before_o do_v now_o in_o their_o trial_n begin_v to_o think_v for_o who_o cause_n this_o evil_n be_v 3._o prayer_n never_o so_o much_o assay_v in_o a_o day_n of_o distress_n will_v to_o it_o as_o they_o be_v willing_a to_o have_v the_o quarrel_n seek_v out_o and_o to_o submit_v themselves_o to_o a_o lot_n for_o that_o effect_n they_o say_v every_o one_o to_o his_o fellow_n come_v and_o let_v we_o cast_v lot_n that_o we_o may_v know_v etc._n etc._n affliction_n will_v command_v man_n to_o turn_v from_o iniquity_n who_o will_v not_o hear_v such_o a_o charge_n in_o any_o other_o language_n job_n 36.10_o 5._o the_o lord_n all-seeing_a eye_n perceive_v every_o secret_a sin_n and_o his_o providence_n overrule_v most_o contingent_a and_o uncertain_a event_n and_o holy_o may_v be_v therefore_o the_o lot_n guide_v by_o god_n fall_v upon_o jonah_n signify_v his_o rebellion_n to_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o all_o their_o danger_n rather_o than_o their_o idolatry_n though_o
