our_o action_n wherein_o we_o must_v observe_v these_o seven_o several_a instruction_n and_o help_n 1._o instruction_n that_o know_v ourselves_o to_o be_v naked_a miserable_a and_o of_o all_o good_a thing_n indigent_a we_o shall_v labour_v ever_o by_o all_o mean_n to_o procure_v the_o grace_n and_o help_v of_o god_n that_o there_o may_v be_v such_o a_o change_n make_v in_o our_o soul_n whereby_o we_o may_v seel_v that_o our_o will_n insist_o upon_o this_o not_o to_o seek_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v our_o own_o as_o our_o own_o but_o to_o seek_v god_n and_o whatsoever_o good_a thing_n be_v in_o he_o and_o ourselves_o as_o the_o thing_n that_o be_v of_o god_n and_o whorewith_o of_o his_o infinite_a goodness_n and_o mercy_n he_o wish_v himself_o to_o be_v serve_v so_o that_o we_o hold_v evermore_o his_o most_o excellent_a grace_n and_o infinite_a glory_n as_o our_o own_o good_n nay_o far_o more_o excellent_a than_o our_o own_o and_o that_o we_o praise_v he_o and_o rejoice_v in_o he_o of_o infinite_a glory_n of_o his_o infinite_a goodness_n will_v have_v we_o to_o be_v so_o magnify_v with_o the_o sublime_a inheritance_n and_o riches_n which_o himself_o possess_v and_o with_o he_o all_o those_o which_o for_o their_o last_o rest_n and_o good_a do_v desire_n that_o the_o divine_a majesty_n may_v have_v so_o great_a glory_n as_o it_o have_v and_o this_o be_v to_o be_v one_o spirit_n with_o god_n and_o be_v the_o sum_n of_o all_o christian_a perfection_n for_o it_o be_v a_o doctrine_n clear_a by_o the_o sacred_a scripture_n and_o holy_a father_n that_o we_o be_v all_o bring_v forth_o into_o this_o world_n not_o to_o rest_v and_o settle_v upon_o the_o brittle_a good_a thing_n of_o this_o life_n and_o in_o they_o to_o solace_v ourselves_o see_v they_o be_v the_o least_o low_a and_o vile_a of_o the_o good_a thing_n of_o god_n but_o that_o use_v they_o so_o far_o forth_o as_o they_o serve_v for_o our_o necessity_n according_a to_o god_n ordinance_n we_o spend_v own_o self_n who_o be_v a_o infinite_a good_a in_o who_o we_o shall_v far_o more_o eminent_o and_o abundant_o possess_v all_o good_a thing_n than_o we_o be_v able_a to_o magine_v again_o we_o may_v observe_v that_o albeit_o god_n have_v not_o tie_v we_o under_o the_o commination_n of_o eternal_a death_n that_o we_o shall_v perpetual_o intend_v nothing_o else_o but_o his_o observance_n but_o only_o then_o when_o any_o of_o his_o commandment_n be_v to_o be_v observe_v yet_o by_o the_o law_n of_o equity_n whereby_o we_o ought_v to_o observe_v ourselves_o as_o the_o son_n of_o so_o great_a a_o father_n not_o only_o man_n of_o a_o religious_a profession_n but_o even_o all_o christian_n be_v bind_v to_o procure_v unto_o themselves_o a_o more_o sublime_a and_o heavenly_a degree_n of_o sanctity_n and_o evermore_o to_o serve_v that_o so_o mighty_a a_o lord_n and_o father_n for_o it_o be_v not_o of_o some_o few_o but_o of_o all_o in_o general_a that_o the_o lord_n pronounce_v those_o word_n let_v we_o make_v man_n according_a to_o our_o own_o image_n and_o smilitude_n and_o then_o be_v man_n whole_o find_v according_a to_o the_o image_n of_o god_n when_o he_o exercise_v himself_o herein_o to_o know_v and_o love_v the_o wonderful_a thing_n of_o god_n take_v exceed_v great_a joy_n thereat_o and_o in_o the_o gospel_n he_o say_v be_v you_o perfect_a 5._o math._n 5._o as_o your_o heavenly_a father_n be_v also_o perfect_a sure_o it_o be_v most_o meet_a that_o he_o be_v holy_a who_o be_v the_o son_n of_o he_o who_o seraphines_n incessant_o call_v holy_a holy_a holy_a that_o never_o forget_v who_o son_n we_o be_v we_o shall_v not_o think_v it_o sufficient_a to_o be_v holy_a in_o a_o low_a degree_n but_o as_o our_o frailty_n will_v suffer_v we_o to_o strive_v for_o the_o goal_n of_o all_o perfection_n abstract_v our_o heart_n from_o the_o love_n of_o all_o earthly_a thing_n and_o reflect_v they_o upon_o our_o father_n who_o be_v of_o infinite_a goodness_n and_o with_o to_o be_v note_v that_o it_o behove_v the_o servant_n of_o god_n who_o will_v please_v his_o lord_n to_o plant_v in_o his_o soul_n a_o very_a puissant_a will_n or_o habit_n of_o will_v engender_v of_o strong_a and_o frequent_a act_n of_o will_v it_o which_o will_n or_o habit_n so_o ingraff_v in_o he_o may_v move_v he_o and_o make_v he_o think_v that_o whatsoever_o he_o do_v in_o body_n or_o soul_n now_o desire_v all_o the_o toil_n vexation_n contempt_n &c_n &c_n injury_n to_o be_v do_v thou_o which_o be_v wish_v desire_v &c_n &c_n assume_v so_o that_o it_o be_v not_o against_o the_o will_n of_o god_n or_o be_v the_o occasion_n of_o the_o loss_n of_o some_o spiritual_a or_o temporal_a good_a so_o this_o be_v necessary_a the_o caution_n discretion_n and_o counsel_n of_o some_o wise_a and_o holy_a man_n and_o a_o continual_a fear_n that_o under_o the_o colour_n of_o good_a we_o be_v not_o deceive_v for_o we_o must_v not_o believe_v every_o spirit_n 4._o 1_o joh._n 4._o but_o above_o all_o the_o light_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n bring_v much_o light_n unto_o this_o business_n which_o without_o doubt_n shall_v be_v give_v to_o they_o that_o with_o humility_n of_o heart_n seek_v it_o it_o be_v also_o beside_o necessary_a if_o we_o will_v worthy_o hate_v ourselves_o not_o only_o to_o leave_v all_o delectable_a thing_n and_o withal_o desire_v all_o greevance_n and_o vexation_n but_o withal_o we_o must_v herein_o rejoice_v when_o any_o such_o adversity_n and_o privation_n of_o pleasant_a thing_n nay_o of_o necessary_a thing_n befall_v we_o from_o any_o which_o be_v more_o grievous_a unto_o we_o then_o whilst_o we_o â—ake_v they_o up_o ourselves_o but_o chies_o when_o in_o our_o judgement_n he_o who_o do_v such_o thing_n to_o we_o do_v it_o with_o a_o indiscreet_a and_o malicious_a intent_n and_o albeit_o we_o can_v without_o manifest_v sign_n judge_v hereof_o nor_o yet_o then_o with_o any_o firm_a resolution_n and_o albeit_o we_o ought_v much_o to_o lament_v the_o offence_n of_o the_o persecuter_n and_o wrong_a doer_n love_v he_o in_o the_o bowel_n of_o compassion_n as_o one_o from_o who_o we_o have_v receive_v a_o singular_a benefit_n yet_o when_o we_o shall_v manifest_o see_v it_o we_o must_v be_v very_o careful_a that_o so_o great_a a_o gift_n &_o precious_a pearl_n perish_v not_o but_o consider_v the_o reason_n wherefore_o every_o one_o must_v hate_v himself_o as_o we_o shall_v show_v anon_o then_o must_v our_o will_n come_v on_o produce_v most_o frequent_a act_n of_o desire_v and_o accept_v such_o persecution_n and_o contempt_n which_o be_v do_v unto_o we_o which_o thing_n when_o we_o have_v do_v we_o shall_v be_v enrich_v with_o the_o holy_a hatred_n which_o we_o look_v for_o all_o these_o thing_n christ_n jesus_n our_o master_n have_v both_o by_o word_n and_o example_n teach_v we_o who_o most_o holy_a soul_n albeit_o never_o wound_v with_o the_o sting_n of_o any_o sin_n and_o so_o there_o be_v no_o necessity_n of_o handle_v that_o precious_a body_n with_o any_o asperity_n of_o hatred_n yet_o will_v he_o for_o our_o example_n despise_v all_o delectable_a thing_n and_o suffer_v persecution_n and_o to_o be_v so_o evil_o entreat_v as_o never_o be_v any_o other_o man_n all_o which_o he_o do_v that_o we_o may_v learn_v what_o we_o ought_v to_o do_v to_o obtain_v this_o hatred_n of_o ourselves_o which_o be_v so_o necessary_a see_v then_o his_o majesty_n will_v suffer_v such_o thing_n by_o his_o example_n to_o induce_v we_o to_o the_o like_a christ_n suffer_v for_o we_o 2._o 1._o pet._n 2._o and_o learn_v we_o a_o example_n to_o follow_v his_o step_n let_v we_o for_o the_o love_n of_o god_n open_v our_o eye_n and_o behold_v if_o it_o be_v just_a that_o our_o god_n and_o lord_n shall_v suffer_v so_o much_o for_o our_o sin_n and_o to_o our_o instruction_n so_o many_o injury_n indignity_n and_o persection_n while_o we_o cast_v off_o all_o shame_n forsake_v he_o and_o not_o only_o not_o in_o act_n bear_v any_o kind_n of_o punishment_n or_o injury_n for_o his_o sake_n but_o not_o so_o much_o as_o to_o have_v will_n to_o suffer_v it_o nor_o yet_o ever_o meditate_v or_o desire_v it_o and_o much_o less_o that_o any_o man_n shall_v speak_v to_o we_o of_o it_o sure_o as_o it_o will_v be_v ridiculous_a if_o any_o do_v desire_n to_o be_v call_v a_o student_n in_o divinity_n or_o to_o be_v account_v a_o divine_a which_o be_v neither_o exercise_v in_o that_o study_n nor_o yet_o be_v desirous_a to_o know_v any_o principle_n of_o it_o so_o be_v it_o ridiculous_a that_o any_o shall_v esteem_v himself_o the_o servant_n of_o god_n or_o be_v in_o any_o religious_a congregation_n which_o be_v the_o school_n of_o all_o virtue_n who_o labour_v not_o to_o procure_v and_o have_v this_o holy_a hatred_n chief_o have_v so_o excellent_a a_o master_n to_o teach_v it_o us._n let_v they_o consider_v this_o who_o be_v so_o negligent_a in_o religion_n that_o they_o think_v all_o christian_a duty_n to_o be_v but_o matter_n of_o conformity_n and_o let_v they_o know_v that_o the_o name_n of_o christian_n agree_v not_o to_o they_o unless_o they_o study_v the_o doctrine_n of_o so_o sublime_a a_o searcher_n deliver_v unto_o we_o both_o by_o word_n and_o example_n and_o sure_o if_o nothing_o else_o will_v drive_v we_o to_o this_o care_n but_o only_o that_o we_o may_v imitate_v so_o great_a a_o master_n as_o the_o son_n of_o god_n and_o be_v make_v like_o he_o even_o that_o may_v suffice_v without_o any_o other_o reason_n to_o make_v we_o walk_v the_o journey_n which_o so_o worthy_a a_o master_n have_v tread_v out_o for_o we_o see_v we_o be_v sure_a that_o he_o can_v there_o err_v in_o the_o way_n nor_o have_v lose_v the_o crown_n of_o glory_n but_o that_o we_o may_v more_o full_o obtain_v this_o thing_n one_o thing_n be_v to_o be_v note_v which_o at_o the_o first_o blush_n may_v seem_v to_o be_v of_o small_a moment_n but_o more_o advise_o consider_v will_v be_v think_v of_o much_o worth_n namely_o that_o the_o chief_a exercise_n most_o expedient_a for_o we_o to_o use_v for_o the_o gain_v of_o this_o holy_a hatred_n be_v that_o incessant_o we_o pursue_v and_o assault_v those_o our_o innumerable_a small_a desire_n which_o every_o moment_n occur_v and_o the_o manner_n of_o pursue_v they_o be_v after_o the_o fashion_n of_o those_o who_o endeavour_n to_o set_v upon_o a_o potent_a adversary_n by_o deceit_n for_o with_o great_a circumspection_n we_o must_v provide_v whether_o happy_o we_o desire_v any_o thing_n which_o be_v not_o of_o god_n nor_o lead_v we_o unto_o god_n and_o assoon_o as_o we_o perceive_v that_o anything_o fall_v out_o that_o may_v delight_v we_o beside_o and_o without_o god_n sudden_o the_o will_n be_v to_o be_v incline_v to_o contradict_v it_o and_o not_o to_o accept_v it_o but_o assoon_o as_o we_o shall_v see_v any_o thing_n befall_v we_o contrarinat_a or_o displeasant_a to_o we_o by_o and_o by_o to_o incline_v the_o will_n to_o desire_v that_o which_o if_o any_o shall_v frequent_o exercise_v he_o shall_v far_o soon_o obtain_v this_o holy_a hatred_n and_o withal_o so_o great_a dominion_n over_o himsclfe_n as_o can_v be_v in_o word_n express_v for_o it_o be_v most_o certain_a that_o this_o be_v the_o key_n of_o all_o those_o treasure_n belong_v to_o perfection_n 2_o for_o what_o cause_n we_o must_v hate_v ourselves_o be_v now_o to_o be_v discuss_v which_o albeit_o may_v sufficient_o be_v ground_v out_o of_o these_o assertion_n of_o our_o saviour_n he_o that_o hate_v not_o his_o own_o soul_n can_v be_v my_o disciple_n 11._o luk._n 11._o matth._n 11._o and_o he_o that_o will_v follow_v i_o let_v he_o deny_v himself_o etc._n etc._n yet_o to_o give_v the_o great_a satisfaction_n to_o this_o point_n which_o be_v hold_v of_o most_o man_n for_o paradoxall_a and_o untrue_a we_o must_v observe_v that_o for_o many_o cause_v it_o be_v very_o profitable_a for_o we_o and_o that_o god_n requite_v no_o less_o service_n at_o our_o hand_n then_o to_o hate_v ourselves_o 1_o which_o may_v serve_v for_o all_o we_o must_v hate_v ourselves_o because_o what_o evil_a so_o ever_o be_v in_o we_o and_o what_o defect_n of_o virtue_n and_o good_a soever_o be_v in_o we_o proceed_v from_o this_o that_o we_o do_v not_o hate_v ourselves_o for_o all_o this_o evil_a and_o all_o defect_n of_o good_a in_o we_o be_v derive_v from_o this_o that_o we_o love_v and_o desire_v some_o thing_n against_o or_o beside_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n all_o which_o we_o do_v only_o for_o the_o love_n of_o ourselves_o therefore_o if_o we_o will_v have_v our_o soul_n enrich_v with_o the_o good_a thing_n of_o god_n and_o enfranchise_v from_o the_o evil_a we_o can_v but_o hate_v ourselves_o he_o that_o love_v his_o soul_n 12._o joh._n 12._o lose_v his_o soul_n say_v the_o eternal_a truth_n it_o be_v the_o root_n and_o fountain_n of_o all_o evil_a in_o man_n heart_n therefore_o one_o say_v well_o if_o thou_o shall_v love_v evil_a august_n august_n than_o thou_o some_o excellent_a thing_n but_o with_o all_o and_o much_o more_o that_o we_o have_v a_o sublimate_v and_o high_a motive_n and_o scope_n and_o the_o motive_n that_o shall_v set_v we_o to_o pray_v must_v be_v to_o believe_v that_o our_o lord_n god_n will_v that_o we_o shall_v have_v what_o we_o ask_v and_o he_o will_v have_v we_o to_o ask_v that_o we_o may_v thereby_o be_v dispose_v to_o his_o service_n for_o bless_a be_v the_o bread_n which_o he_o eat_v who_o eat_v to_o this_o end_n that_o he_o may_v live_v and_o live_a may_v be_v employ_v in_o increase_v in_o the_o love_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o god_n for_o so_o the_o ask_n of_o bread_n and_o whatsoever_o else_o with_o a_o such_o motive_n be_v much_o esteem_v in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n beside_o of_o such_o a_o mind_n we_o must_v be_v that_o if_o we_o think_v it_o not_o acceptable_a unto_o god_n that_o we_o obtain_v that_o which_o we_o most_o desire_v forthwith_o as_o much_o as_o be_v in_o we_o we_o must_v neither_o desire_v nor_o ask_v it_o the_o hungry_a soul_n for_o the_o most_o part_n by_o the_o famine_n that_o oppress_v he_o be_v move_v to_o ask_v bread_n but_o so_o be_v not_o he_o who_o right_o pray_v unto_o god_n he_o must_v ask_v meat_n and_o necessary_a grace_n and_o glory_n not_o chief_o for_o that_o he_o have_v need_n of_o these_o but_o for_o that_o the_o lord_n god_n will_v that_o we_o shall_v have_v they_o expect_v only_o our_o prayer_n that_o he_o may_v give_v they_o unto_o we_o so_o that_o the_o will_n of_o god_n desirous_a that_o we_o shall_v have_v these_o thing_n must_v more_o move_v we_o to_o ask_v and_o desire_v our_o own_o good_a than_o the_o joy_n and_o glory_n which_o we_o hope_v may_v accrue_v unto_o we_o thereby_o therefore_o the_o manner_n of_o pray_v aught_o to_o be_v that_o our_o soul_n have_v attain_v to_o a_o habit_n of_o ask_v that_o which_o god_n desire_v above_o any_o other_o thing_n and_o exercise_v by_o many_o act_n of_o so_o ask_v it_o not_o chief_o for_o our_o own_o good_a but_o for_o that_o his_o most_o holy_a will_n be_v most_o worthy_a to_o be_v desire_v above_o all_o desireable_n whatsoever_o we_o shall_v ask_v let_v it_o be_v immix_v and_o interweave_v with_o such_o a_o habit_n and_o all_o the_o word_n of_o our_o prayer_n let_v they_o be_v join_v to_o the_o act_n of_o willing_a and_o desire_v whatsoever_o we_o shall_v ask_v for_o this_o cause_n that_o god_n desire_v that_o we_o shall_v have_v it_o whereby_o we_o may_v thus_o become_v his_o more_o acceptable_a servant_n and_o have_v the_o great_a love_n towards_o he_o happy_a be_v they_o that_o can_v thus_o pray_v for_o in_o few_o day_n they_o shall_v grow_v to_o be_v potent_a man_n in_o the_o lord_n to_o perform_v all_o the_o foresay_a thing_n be_v necessary_a the_o 2._o and_o love_n and_o not_o for_o the_o love_n of_o the_o thing_n desire_v albeit_o yet_o even_o the_o love_n of_o the_o thing_n may_v be_v keep_v with_o much_o perfection_n so_o that_o in_o act_v it_o be_v resire_v to_o this_o that_o therefore_o it_o may_v be_v love_v because_o god_n will_v that_o we_o shall_v love_v that_o thing_n which_o now_o be_v not_o so_o in_o the_o former_a kind_n and_o therefore_o exceed_v the_o bound_n of_o prayer_n therefore_o many_o consider_v this_o have_v come_v to_o know_v that_o the_o love_n of_o themselves_o be_v hide_v under_o the_o shadow_n of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o that_o it_o be_v true_a that_o albeit_o they_o love_v god_n yet_o be_v they_o not_o move_v with_o this_o love_n in_o act_n while_o they_o pray_v but_o with_o the_o love_n of_o themselves_o albeit_o not_o with_o a_o ill_a love_n whereby_o they_o be_v move_v to_o ask_v that_o which_o they_o do_v because_o it_o be_v good_a this_o will_v be_v more_o easy_o understand_v by_o that_o which_o often_o fall_v out_o among_o such_o as_o love_v one_o another_o that_o one_o ask_v something_o of_o another_o and_o that_o with_o the_o love_n wherewith_o he_o love_v he_o yet_o not_o of_o or_o for_o the_o love_n which_o he_o have_v towards_o he_o of_o who_o he_o ask_v but_o for_o the_o love_n of_o himself_o and_o his_o own_o benefit_n therefore_o as_o before_o be_v say_v we_o must_v not_o ask_v so_o of_o god_n but_o we_o must_v ask_v with_o and_o for_o his_o love_n that_o be_v we_o must_v actual_o perceive_v a_o desire_n of_o obtain_v that_o we_o ask_v whereby_o god_n by_o that_o may_v receive_v from_o we_o a_o acceptable_a obedience_n sure_o great_a and_o necessary_a be_v the_o attention_n that_o we_o may_v know_v the_o difference_n of_o these_o love_n for_o it_o be_v a_o thing_n necessary_a to_o be_v know_v and_o many_o think_v they_o have_v go_v aright_o in_o this_o business_n but_o look_v near_o into_o the_o thing_n they_o have_v find_v it_o to_o be_v only_o the_o imagination_n of_o the_o true_a love_n of_o god_n and_o themselves_o to_o be_v far_o from_o it_o indeed_o he_o therefore_o believe_v and_o know_v himself_o to_o be_v in_o the_o right_a way_n who_o continual_o build_v as_o upon_o his_o guide_n in_o the_o way_n upon_o a_o actual_a desire_n of_o obtain_v by_o prayer_n these_o or_o these_o grace_n that_o god_n may_v rejoice_v to_o see_v he_o so_o beautify_v and_o that_o he_o may_v grow_v in_o his_o love_n and_o although_o at_o the_o begin_n of_o this_o exercise_n many_o shall_v not_o only_o feel_v that_o they_o do_v not_o increase_v in_o devotion_n but_o rather_o to_o have_v make_v shipwreck_n of_o that_o which_o they_o have_v before_o for_o which_o they_o shall_v be_v much_o grieve_v in_o their_o soul_n yet_o let_v they_o go_v on_o cheerful_o in_o this_o great_a work_n and_o let_v they_o not_o admire_v that_o they_o feel_v this_o diminution_n of_o devotion_n for_o in_o that_o he_o find_v in_o himself_o this_o coldness_n and_o indevotion_n he_o shall_v perform_v a_o far_o more_o worthy_a duty_n than_o before_o while_o he_o seem_v to_o taste_v a_o great_a sweetness_n and_o contentment_n for_o this_o contentment_n be_v wont_a to_o arise_v from_o the_o love_n of_o himself_o albeit_o not_o evil_a which_o yet_o be_v to_o be_v abandon_v that_o one_o may_v be_v whole_o addict_v to_o the_o love_n of_o god_n which_o be_v best_a of_o all_o for_o when_o it_o arise_v from_o the_o love_n of_o ourselves_o which_o be_v very_o great_a we_o find_v great_a sweetness_n and_o pleasure_n in_o it_o but_o that_o love_n be_v discard_v the_o love_n of_o god_n above_o entertain_v which_o at_o the_o beginning_n be_v but_o small_a little_a sweetness_n and_o devotion_n be_v feel_v but_o this_o love_n increase_v the_o pleasure_n and_o devotion_n will_v also_o increase_v for_o illustration_n whereof_o our_o own_o experience_n will_v serve_v we_o see_v that_o two_o stick_n do_v burn_v together_o the_o one_o being_n dry_a and_o easy_o fire_v the_o other_o not_o so_o yet_o the_o fire_n of_o the_o one_o make_v the_o other_o be_v green_a and_o not_o so_o apt_a to_o burn_v to_o flame_n and_o as_o itself_o do_v but_o if_o you_o remove_v they_o asunder_o you_o shall_v find_v that_o stick_n which_o be_v not_o so_o dry_a to_o loose_v both_o his_o flame_n and_o heat_n too_o and_o to_o keep_v it_o from_o go_v quite_o out_o he_o must_v be_v enforce_v either_o to_o use_v the_o bellows_n or_o else_o re-match_n it_o with_o the_o former_a which_o first_o set_v it_o on_o fire_n in_o like_a manner_n our_o love_n of_o god_n be_v not_o so_o hot_a and_o inflame_v of_o itself_o if_o yet_o it_o be_v join_v to_o the_o love_n
for_o we_o take_v unto_o we_o that_o glory_n that_o be_v due_a to_o god_n alone_o or_o else_o we_o glory_v in_o ourselves_o when_o we_o shall_v glory_v in_o the_o lord_n therefore_o let_v every_o man_n suspect_v that_o it_o be_v vain_a &_o not_o spiritual_a joy_n which_o he_o take_v of_o the_o benefit_n receive_v from_o god_n while_o he_o rejoice_v not_o in_o the_o same_o manner_n consider_v the_o benefit_n which_o other_o have_v receive_v for_o albeit_o we_o ought_v fistt_v choose_v good_a thing_n for_o ourselves_o before_o other_o &_o also_o to_o rejoice_v that_o when_o it_o be_v not_o decree_v that_o we_o together_o with_o they_o shall_v obtain_v it_o it_o fall_v out_o that_o we_o have_v it_o yet_o while_o both_o we_o and_o they_o obtain_v good_a thing_n at_o the_o good_a hand_n and_o grace_n he_o shall_v ever_o flee_v all_o kind_n of_o complacency_n and_o joy_n while_o he_o recogitate_v the_o benefit_n of_o god_n which_o he_o have_v receive_v of_o god_n or_o hear_v of_o himself_o and_o shall_v rather_o accustom_v himself_o at_o those_o time_n to_o stand_v in_o fear_n whereby_o shall_v with_o a_o certain_a grief_n have_v vain_a glory_n in_o suspicion_n which_o be_v only_o in_o the_o wicked_a and_o such_o as_o desire_v not_o the_o true_a good_a we_o will_v return_v to_o the_o first_o vain_a glory_n which_o arise_v from_o that_o good_a which_o a_o man_n have_v do_v or_o hear_v of_o himself_o the_o thing_n which_o may_v easy_o disturne_v we_o from_o so_o great_a a_o evil_a be_v the_o consideration_n of_o the_o mighty_a vanity_n &_o falsity_n which_o may_v be_v find_v in_o it_o for_o there_o be_v no_o man_n that_o be_v give_v to_o virtue_n who_o do_v not_o hate_v the_o thing_n which_o be_v vain_a and_o false_a &_o so_o often_o and_o long_o may_v one_o consider_v this_o thing_n and_o that_o which_o follow_v that_o by_o much_o use_n of_o consider_v it_o he_o may_v conceive_v so_o great_a a_o hatred_n against_o this_o evil_n of_o vain_a glory_n that_o thencefourth_o it_o will_v ever_o scarce_o offer_v itself_o to_o a_o man_n and_o this_o be_v the_o consideration_n it_o be_v a_o vile_a and_o odious_a thing_n if_o any_o noble_a courtier_n shall_v esteem_v it_o for_o a_o great_a matter_n and_o shall_v boast_v of_o it_o that_o he_o have_v put_v himself_o in_o some_o small_a peril_n out_o of_o his_o love_n and_o duty_n to_o the_o king_n which_o king_n before_o that_o by_o reason_n of_o he_o and_o for_o the_o great_a love_n he_o bear_v to_o he_o have_v expose_v himself_o to_o many_o great_a danger_n and_o wound_n but_o if_o the_o same_o noble_a man_n shall_v not_o only_o esteem_v that_o small_a favour_n he_o have_v do_v for_o his_o king_n to_o who_o he_o ought_v so_o much_o very_o high_o but_o also_o boast_v of_o it_o abroad_o his_o levity_n &_o folly_n be_v worthy_a every_o where_n to_o be_v laugh_v at_o but_o yet_o this_o vanity_n of_o his_o be_v much_o more_o abominable_a if_o the_o king_n himself_o shall_v have_v bear_v all_o this_o toil_n without_o all_o help_n of_o this_o noble_a man_n and_o that_o the_o noble_a man_n shall_v have_v suffer_v that_o little_a danger_n with_o the_o great_a favour_n and_o help_v of_o exercise_v in_o high_o esteem_v and_o praise_v the_o most_o high_a god_n to_o who_o all_o praise_n and_o glory_n be_v due_a shall_v be_v take_v up_o in_o esteem_v i_o to_o be_v of_o any_o worth_n to_o that_o his_o own_o only_a care_n and_o business_n may_v be_v to_o know_v himself_o and_o cleanse_v himself_o from_o sin_n there_o be_v he_o fill_v with_o bitterness_n whilst_o he_o find_v himself_o less_o cleanse_v and_o less_o servant_n than_o he_o shall_v be_v there_o be_v he_o offend_v at_o himself_o and_o from_o the_o knowledge_n of_o himself_o take_v just_a occasion_n of_o indignation_n against_o himself_o and_o so_o arise_v from_o sorrow_n and_o indignation_n to_o the_o hope_n of_o divine_a mercy_n to_o the_o tranquillity_n of_o the_o mind_n and_o to_o the_o feel_n of_o celestial_a consolation_n for_o present_o the_o prophet_n add_v the_o hand_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v upon_o i_o comfort_v i_o for_o those_o do_v the_o hand_n of_o god_n recreate_v &_o refresh_v who_o it_o find_v prick_v in_o conscience_n and_o forsake_v out_o of_o the_o knowledge_n of_o their_o daily_a slip_n therefore_o this_o be_v a_o sâ—re_v conclusion_n that_o the_o discussion_n of_o the_o conscience_n be_v the_o original_n of_o compunction_n the_o mother_n of_o all_o godly_a sorrow_n whereby_o we_o be_v prepare_v to_o receive_v consolation_n and_o pardon_n of_o our_o sin_n this_o necessity_n of_o of_o friend_n domestical_a necessity_n care_v of_o child_n solicitude_n of_o wife_n fear_v of_o soldier_n and_o a_o thousand_o other_o cause_n do_v encompass_v thou_o but_o when_o thou_o shall_v come_v unto_o thy_o bed_n to_o give_v thy_o member_n rest_n and_o a_o quiet_a haven_n no_o man_n then_o trouble_v thou_o no_o man_n knock_v say_v in_o thy_o soul_n and_o in_o thy_o heart_n we_o spend_v a_o day_n o_o my_o soul_n what_o good_a have_v we_o do_v or_o what_o evil_a have_v we_o wrought_v if_o any_o evil_n do_v so_o no_o more_o if_o any_o good_a give_v thanks_n unto_o god_n and_o remember_v thy_o sin_n pour_v out_o thy_o tear_n and_o labour_n to_o blot_v they_o out_o pray_v to_o god_n and_o so_o suffer_v thy_o soul_n to_o rest_v confess_v thy_o sin_n make_v a_o account_n to_o confession_n of_o thy_o thought_n that_o in_o the_o last_o daiy_n thou_o may_v not_o be_v more_o slothful_a to_o search_v out_o thy_o sin_n therefore_o behold_v how_o the_o examination_n of_o the_o conscience_n stir_v up_o compunction_n and_o a_o mind_n prick_v be_v first_o trouble_v with_o the_o sting_n of_o sin_n find_v out_o joyfulness_n and_o comfort_n 3_o hence_o arise_v a_o three_o necessity_n of_o discussion_n that_o without_o it_o common_o we_o can_v obtain_v remission_n of_o our_o sin_n i_o say_v common_o because_o sometime_o a_o man_n get_v the_o pardon_n of_o of_o his_o sin_n albeit_o he_o forget_v many_o of_o they_o whilst_o he_o true_o grieve_v and_o repent_v for_o his_o sin_n ingenerall_n but_o if_o we_o look_v upon_o the_o law_n of_o god_n
