perfection_n of_o the_o sensitive_a above_o the_o animate_v and_o of_o the_o rational_a above_o the_o sensitive_a 4._o that_o as_o the_o several_a creature_n be_v move_v to_o their_o several_a preservation_n and_o perfection_n as_o to_o their_o several_a end_n so_o they_o have_v suitable_a inclination_n disposition_n and_o motion_n place_v in_o they_o conducible_a to_o those_o end_n as_o the_o motion_n of_o body_n to_o their_o several_a station_n the_o generation_n of_o vegetable_n and_o their_o attraction_n of_o supply_n of_o nourishment_n answerable_a to_o their_o temper_n the_o fade_a of_o sensitive_n and_o assimilation_n of_o the_o nourishment_n to_o their_o own_o nature_n supply_v the_o decay_n thereof_o natural_a instinct_n of_o every_o species_n to_o avoid_v those_o thing_n place_n and_o food_n that_o be_v destructive_a provide_v for_o variety_n of_o season_n multiplication_n of_o their_o species_n and_o infinite_a the_o like_a which_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o that_o rule_n law_n or_o means_n that_o the_o first_o cause_n have_v put_v in_o they_o for_o the_o attain_v that_o end_n which_o he_o have_v put_v in_o they_o viz._n their_o preservation_n and_o perfection_n and_o this_o be_v the_o great_a wisdom_n as_o i_o may_v call_v it_o of_o the_o creature_n that_o it_o pursue_v that_o end_n by_o that_o law_n which_o the_o first_o cause_n have_v give_v it_o mankind_n have_v some_o thing_n in_o he_o common_a with_o other_o inferior_a being_n and_o in_o respect_n thereof_o have_v the_o same_o natural_a end_n viz._n the_o preservation_n of_o his_o subsistence_n by_o the_o same_o law_n of_o nature_n which_o he_o do_v and_o may_v and_o aught_o to_o preserve_v as_o other_o creature_n do_v but_o if_o he_o have_v a_o high_a degree_n of_o be_v than_o cause_n whereinto_o he_o be_v or_o shall_v be_v carry_v 2._o a_o high_a and_o different_a law_n give_v by_o the_o first_o cause_n in_o order_n to_o that_o end_n which_o while_o he_o follow_v he_o be_v most_o wise_a because_o most_o conformable_a to_o the_o will_n of_o his_o maker_n and_o move_v to_o a_o suitable_a end_n to_o himself_o by_o a_o suitable_a mean_n and_o which_o when_o he_o decline_v he_o be_v more_o brutish_a than_o the_o beast_n because_o he_o either_o move_v to_o no_o end_n or_o by_o such_o a_o rule_n by_o which_o it_o be_v impossible_a he_o shall_v attain_v it_o the_o conclusion_n than_o be_v that_o man_n be_v by_o the_o first_o cause_n make_v for_o a_o end_v answerable_a to_o his_o own_o perfection_n by_o such_o a_o rule_n or_o law_n as_o be_v by_o the_o first_o cause_n ordain_v to_o be_v conducible_a to_o this_o end_n that_o therefore_o all_o other_o end_v and_o perfection_n that_o be_v below_o the_o uttermost_a height_n and_o perfection_n of_o man_n may_v consist_v with_o this_o end_n for_o we_o be_v not_o to_o conceive_v so_o improvident_o of_o the_o first_o cause_n that_o he_o shall_v put_v a_o thing_n in_o such_o a_o degree_n of_o be_v that_o the_o religion_n viz._n the_o knowledge_n that_o there_o be_v a_o god_n and_o some_o thing_n concern_v his_o essence_n that_o he_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o all_o thing_n that_o he_o make_v all_o thing_n for_o his_o own_o end_n and_o those_o other_o thing_n before_o mention_v may_v be_v acquire_v by_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n and_o reason_n yet_o such_o be_v the_o height_n and_o remoteness_n of_o the_o subject_a that_o it_o require_v much_o industry_n and_o consideration_n to_o carry_v we_o step_v by_o step_n unto_o this_o height_n but_o when_o we_o have_v arrive_v to_o this_o which_o few_o attain_n unto_o yet_o there_o be_v so_o much_o confusion_n in_o these_o notion_n and_o they_o be_v so_o far_o fetch_v that_o they_o make_v not_o that_o clear_a impression_n upon_o the_o understanding_n as_o be_v fit_a but_o admit_v they_o do_v yet_o we_o be_v still_o to_o seek_v what_o be_v that_o rule_n whereby_o to_o lead_v we_o to_o attain_v to_o our_o great_a end_n and_o this_o god_n or_o no_o this_o be_v the_o gross_a ignorance_n because_o it_o be_v against_o the_o first_o and_o most_o universal_a principle_n for_o the_o affirmation_n of_o the_o be_v of_o any_o thing_n be_v the_o first_o foundation_n whereupon_o every_o inquiry_n be_v build_v this_o be_v atheism_n and_o mere_a brutishness_n 2._o when_o a_o man_n have_v once_o state_v that_o question_n affirmative_o that_o there_o be_v some_o superior_a power_n the_o next_o question_n and_o the_o next_o step_n of_o man_n ignorance_n be_v concern_v the_o nature_n of_o this_o god_n what_o he_o be_v whether_o one_o or_o more_o whether_o visible_a and_o if_o so_o what_o visible_a etc._n etc._n this_o though_o it_o may_v by_o natural_a reason_n be_v state_v very_o far_o as_o appear_v before_o and_o so_o this_o ignorance_n receive_v a_o cure_n in_o a_o great_a measure_n yet_o so_o far_o be_v our_o intellectual_n darken_v in_o this_o matter_n that_o man_n be_v hardly_o set_v right_a in_o this_o and_o hence_o grow_v those_o strange_a variety_n of_o god_n in_o the_o world_n this_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o idolatry_n and_o polytheism_n 3._o when_o a_o man_n be_v right_o principlee_v concern_v god_n and_o consequent_o conclude_v that_o he_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o all_o thing_n the_o next_o special_a question_n be_v whether_o god_n have_v give_v to_o every_o thing_n his_o several_a end_n and_o rule_n or_o law_n conduce_v to_o that_o end_n and_o consequent_o whether_o he_o have_v appoint_v to_o man_n any_o end_n and_o rule_n conduce_v to_o that_o end_v different_a from_o other_o creature_n or_o whether_o he_o be_v leave_v to_o do_v as_o he_o please_v and_o not_o confine_v by_o the_o will_n of_o god_n to_o some_o end_n and_o rule_n conduce_v to_o it_o the_o ignorance_n of_o this_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o supineness_n epicurism_n impiety_n and_o profess_a injustice_n 4._o when_o a_o man_n find_v that_o god_n be_v a_o free_a and_o intellectual_a agent_n and_o see_v as_o he_o may_v by_o natural_a reason_n every_o thing_n order_v to_o a_o suitable_a end_n to_o his_o be_v and_o by_o a_o suitable_a mean_n or_o rule_n conduce_v to_o that_o end_n and_o find_v a_o high_a degree_n of_o be_v in_o himself_o than_o in_o other_o creature_n and_o consequent_o a_o high_a end_n and_o consequent_o a_o high_a rule_n conduce_v to_o that_o end_n he_o do_v most_o natural_o resolve_v this_o rule_n into_o that_o law_n which_o by_o the_o will_n of_o god_n be_v give_v to_o man_n conduce_v to_o that_o end_n the_o subject_a of_o which_o rule_n must_v be_v all_o his_o internal_a and_o external_n action_n both_o in_o reference_n to_o god_n to_o himself_o and_o to_o other_o but_o here_o then_o be_v the_o next_o question_n and_o the_o next_o degree_n of_o ignorance_n in_o man_n viz._n what_o all_o intention_n obey_v with_o all_o sincerity_n cheerfulness_n and_o exactness_n all_o which_o be_v but_o natural_a conclusion_n from_o the_o nature_n of_o god_n the_o nature_n of_o man_n and_o the_o relation_n that_o he_o bear_v to_o god_n as_o his_o creator_n lord_n and_o preserver_n yet_o because_o we_o know_v not_o what_o that_o will_n of_o god_n particular_o be_v we_o frame_v several_a way_n and_o rule_n of_o worship_n according_a as_o our_o several_a fancy_n persuade_v we_o to_o be_v agreeable_a to_o that_o will_n which_o be_v either_o unnecessary_a and_o superstructive_a or_o erroneous_a and_o offensive_a and_o which_o be_v the_o most_o dangerous_a ingredient_n conclude_v both_o his_o own_o way_n necessary_a and_o the_o other_o dangerous_o erroneous_a these_o defect_n in_o the_o understanding_n must_v needs_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o much_o error_n and_o obliquity_n in_o the_o whole_a man_n and_o his_o action_n and_o these_o defect_n be_v most_o clear_o visible_a in_o the_o whole_a world_n nay_o in_o the_o most_o know_a climate_n time_n and_o person_n thereof_o in_o the_o last_o part_n concern_v the_o worship_n of_o god_n we_o see_v several_a sort_n of_o man_n high_o opinionate_a concern_v their_o own_o particular_a way_n or_o worship_n and_o most_o magisterial_o condemn_v the_o way_n of_o other_o as_o bad_a as_o paganism_n when_o it_o may_v fall_v out_o subject_a and_o so_o for_o the_o most_o part_n it_o do_v that_o what_o be_v superad_v beyond_o the_o plain_a and_o sincere_a fear_n of_o god_n subjection_n to_o his_o will_n thankfulness_n for_o his_o mercy_n belief_n of_o the_o great_a mean_n he_o have_v provide_v for_o our_o salvation_n and_o those_o other_o grand_a principle_n whereof_o before_o and_o anon_o be_v but_o mere_a superstruction_n of_o humane_a invention_n ignorance_n imbecility_n or_o policy_n and_o yet_o make_v the_o great_a part_n of_o the_o business_n and_o inquiry_n and_o difference_n among_o man_n in_o matter_n of_o clear_o and_o necessary_o arise_v from_o these_o viz._n of_o love_n to_o his_o majesty_n fear_v of_o offend_a care_v to_o conform_v to_o his_o will_n dependence_n upon_o he_o thankfulness_n to_o he_o contentedness_n and_o cheerfulness_n in_o he_o valuation_n of_o the_o world_n according_a to_o its_o true_a estimate_n etc._n etc._n will_v most_o effectual_o follow_v in_o the_o will_n and_o those_o affection_n that_o be_v subservient_fw-fr to_o it_o and_o consequent_o in_o the_o life_n and_o action_n of_o man_n one_o divine_a principle_n sound_o and_o clear_o seat_v in_o the_o understanding_n will_v improve_v itself_o into_o infinite_a practical_a deduction_n for_o the_o regulation_n of_o the_o will_n but_o where_o these_o be_v want_v the_o motion_n of_o the_o will_n must_v needs_o be_v eccentric_a but_o where_o they_o be_v but_o weak_o and_o doubtful_o receive_v in_o the_o understanding_n the_o operation_n of_o the_o understanding_n upon_o they_o be_v but_o weak_a the_o inclination_n in_o the_o will_v weak_a and_o easy_o overmatcht_v with_o the_o least_o difficulty_n and_o seldom_o arrive_v to_o action_n or_o constancy_n in_o the_o life_n for_o according_a to_o the_o measure_n and_o intention_n and_o clearness_n of_o the_o conviction_n of_o the_o understanding_n concern_v any_o object_n the_o more_o fruitful_a rational_a and_o powerful_a be_v those_o practical_a conclusion_n deduce_v from_o it_o and_o
therefore_o must_v needs_o take_v up_o the_o high_a and_o choice_a desire_n to_o attain_v and_o keep_v he_o god_n be_v please_v to_o communicate_v himself_o to_o these_o desire_n his_o acceptation_n of_o they_o and_o intimate_v expression_n of_o love_n to_o his_o creature_n this_o as_o it_o be_v the_o high_a happiness_n and_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o creature_n so_o it_o can_v choose_v but_o engage_v the_o soul_n to_o return_v love_n and_o obedience_n to_o the_o will_n of_o his_o god_n especial_o when_o all_o those_o engagement_n to_o obedience_n be_v likewise_o present_v to_o the_o soul_n that_o it_o owe_v its_o be_v to_o he_o that_o his_o will_n be_v most_o righteous_a and_o fit_a to_o be_v obey_v and_o this_o obedience_n arise_v from_o these_o principle_n of_o love_n to_o god_n as_o it_o be_v without_o all_o hypocrisy_n so_o it_o be_v without_o all_o pain_n and_o tediousness_n for_o it_o do_v arise_v from_o a_o inward_a and_o active_a principle_n and_o be_v act_v by_o most_o obedient_a and_o active_a faculty_n man_n take_v no_o less_o delight_n in_o his_o obedience_n which_o be_v the_o fruit_n of_o his_o love_n and_o duty_n to_o his_o maker_n than_o he_o do_v in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o beauty_n and_o goodness_n of_o his_o maker_n which_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o that_o love_n and_o duty_n and_o as_o the_o act_n of_o the_o natural_a appetite_n upon_o a_o proper_a and_o seasonable_a object_n when_o they_o exceed_v not_o their_o proportion_n be_v delightful_a so_o the_o act_n of_o the_o rational_a appetite_n consist_v in_o love_n and_o obedience_n to_o god_n wherein_o they_o can_v not_o exceed_v their_o just_a proportion_n be_v the_o delight_n of_o the_o soul_n his_o holiness_n consist_v in_o the_o return_n to_o his_o maker_n of_o love_n and_o have_v make_v and_o behold_v it_o be_v very_o good._n ib._n ver._n 31._o 2._o the_o mean_n whereby_o he_o attain_v or_o rather_o preserve_v this_o state_n of_o happiness_n which_o be_v in_o effect_n congenite_fw-la with_o though_o not_o essential_a to_o his_o be_v this_o be_v only_o obedience_n to_o the_o will_n of_o his_o maker_n in_o all_o inferior_a creature_n we_o see_v a_o kind_n of_o inclination_n or_o instinct_n to_o follow_v the_o rule_n of_o their_o nature_n this_o conduct_n they_o to_o that_o degree_n of_o felicity_n and_o beauty_n which_o be_v commensurate_a to_o their_o nature_n herein_o though_o they_o follow_v the_o will_n of_o their_o creator_n in_o the_o law_n of_o their_o creation_n it_o be_v not_o proper_o obedience_n nor_o that_o instinct_n proper_o a_o law_n the_o latter_a be_v only_o give_v and_o the_o former_a only_o perform_v by_o such_o a_o creature_n as_o have_v liberty_n and_o choice_n and_o consequent_o knowledge_n and_o understanding_n without_o which_o it_o be_v impossible_a to_o have_v the_o other_o man_n alone_a of_o all_o visible_a creature_n be_v endue_v with_o both_o and_o so_o fit_v to_o receive_v a_o law_n and_o to_o obey_v it_o be_v thus_o fit_v he_o have_v a_o double_a engagement_n of_o obedience_n viz._n of_o duty_n and_o of_o profit_n 1._o of_o duty_n he_o receive_v his_o be_v from_o his_o maker_n and_o that_o be_v furnish_v with_o happiness_n this_o be_v a_o infinite_a and_o boundless_a engagement_n of_o duty_n even_o to_o the_o utmost_a of_o his_o be_v 2._o of_o profit_n or_o advantage_n this_o stock_n of_o happiness_n that_o be_v but_o now_o free_o confer_v upon_o he_o be_v put_v into_o his_o hand_n under_o this_o condition_n if_o he_o break_v his_o condition_n he_o forfeit_v and_o that_o most_o just_o his_o therefore_o be_v of_o two_o kind_n 1._o such_o as_o do_v bear_v a_o kind_n of_o proportion_n or_o convenience_n to_o the_o nature_n of_o man_n such_o be_v all_o those_o moral_n dictate_v which_o we_o be_v not_o clean_o lose_v but_o even_o in_o man_n without_o education_n do_v strange_o manifest_v itself_o in_o divers_a particular_n 2_o in_o respect_n of_o obligation_n for_o there_o can_v be_v nothing_o imaginable_o unjust_a without_o these_o two_o consideration_n viz._n 1._o a_o law_n command_v or_o forbid_v a_o thing_n under_o a_o pain_n whatsoever_o fall_v not_o within_o the_o command_n of_o god_n than_o it_o bind_v in_o a_o fear_n to_o offend_v because_o thereby_o we_o become_v liable_a to_o punishment_n which_o we_o be_v sure_o he_o have_v power_n and_o right_o to_o inflict_v his_o power_n be_v universal_a and_o unavoidable_a and_o his_o right_n and_o dominion_n over_o his_o creature_n absolute_a and_o uncontrollable_a thus_o we_o find_v a_o plain_a obligation_n in_o those_o law_n that_o be_v give_v by_o the_o first_o cause_n and_o consequent_o admit_v such_o a_o law_n we_o have_v a_o clear_a rule_n whereby_o to_o measure_v what_o be_v just_a and_o what_o be_v unjust_a the_o rule_n or_o law_n that_o be_v give_v to_o man_n by_o the_o first_o cause_n of_o our_o be_v 9_o from_o the_o consideration_n of_o the_o first_o cause_n and_o of_o the_o premise_n it_o must_v needs_o follow_v that_o he_o be_v immutable_a for_o mutability_n be_v inconsistent_a 1._o with_o his_o perfection_n it_o be_v impossible_a that_o a_o pure_a act_n can_v have_v any_o change_n for_o all_o change_n do_v necessary_o infer_v passibility_n and_o receptibility_n of_o what_o it_o have_v not_o before_o and_o to_o suppose_v that_o be_v to_o conclude_v he_o be_v not_o actus_fw-la act_n of_o his_o understanding_n and_o will_n and_o these_o be_v immutable_a as_o well_o as_o his_o essence_n for_o indeed_o they_o be_v but_o notional_o divide_v from_o it_o in_o we_o our_o will_n be_v one_o thing_n and_o our_o will_v another_o but_o that_o be_v inconsistent_a with_o the_o simplicity_n of_o the_o first_o cause_n hence_o it_o be_v that_o as_o his_o essence_n so_o his_o will_n be_v immutable_a he_o will_v nothing_o now_o but_o what_o he_o ever_o will_v and_o understand_v from_o eternity_n what_o he_o now_o know_v for_o eternity_n have_v neither_o now_o nor_o then_o in_o it_o 2._o the_o emanant_fw-la act_n those_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o the_o execution_n of_o that_o immutable_a will_n these_o be_v subject_a to_o mutation_n but_o without_o the_o least_o mutation_n but_o our_o gross_a conception_n that_o do_v imagine_v any_o part_n of_o eternity_n past_a or_o any_o part_n to_o come_v or_o that_o time_n do_v divide_v the_o fore_a part_n of_o eternity_n from_o the_o future_a part_n of_o eternity_n it_o be_v a_o indivisible_a permanent_a duration_n nothing_o past_a nothing_o future_a but_o the_o same_o fix_a instant_n consequent_o the_o act_n of_o the_o thing_n be_v direct_v and_o govern_v unto_o their_o several_a end_n by_o he_o touch_v the_o former_a viz._n that_o all_o thing_n beside_o he_o have_v their_o original_n be_v from_o he_o that_o be_v a_o necessary_a consequent_a of_o the_o admission_n of_o a_o first_o be_v for_o whatsoever_o be_v not_o first_o there_o be_v a_o time_n when_o it_o be_v not_o for_o otherwise_o it_o must_v be_v answerable_a to_o it_o and_o according_a to_o the_o levity_n or_o weight_n vanity_n or_o reality_n of_o the_o object_n this_o enjoyment_n be_v diversify_v 2._o not_o mortal_a or_o perish_a as_o the_o want_n of_o a_o proportion_n between_o the_o immaterial_a nature_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o material_a object_n render_v they_o unpleasing_a and_o unsatisfactory_a to_o the_o soul_n so_o if_o there_o be_v a_o suitableness_n between_o their_o nature_n yet_o if_o there_o be_v a_o suitableness_n in_o their_o duration_n it_o want_v that_o which_o be_v necessary_o require_v to_o happiness_n or_o a_o end_n answerable_a to_o the_o soul_n and_o that_o upon_o a_o double_a reason_n 1._o in_o the_o fruition_n the_o very_a enjoyment_n of_o a_o suitable_a good_a which_o i_o be_o sure_a must_v leave_v i_o mingle_v fear_n and_o preapprehension_n of_o the_o loss_n of_o my_o present_a enjoyment_n and_o consequent_o can_v possible_o be_v happiness_n and_o from_o hence_o likewise_o grow_v that_o vexation_n which_o be_v dip_v in_o the_o high_a enjoyment_n every_o man_n in_o the_o very_a enjoyment_n have_v the_o present_a apprehension_n of_o a_o inevitable_a future_a loss_n of_o they_o especial_o in_o death_n which_o do_v take_v away_o that_o possibility_n of_o far_a unite_n of_o external_a object_n to_o man._n 2._o in_o the_o loss_n of_o it_o that_o can_v be_v a_o suitable_a end_n to_o a_o corporeal_a creature_n do_v put_v into_o his_o hand_n such_o a_o good_a as_o be_v common_a with_o other_o creature_n which_o he_o may_v just_o enjoy_v so_o as_o he_o furnish_v he_o with_o a_o immaterial_a immortal_a soul_n he_o do_v order_v that_o soul_n to_o a_o end_v answerable_a to_o itself_o and_o above_o other_o creature_n viz._n a_o immaterial_a immortal_a good._n and_o less_o than_o this_o can_v be_v a_o end_n answerable_a to_o the_o wisdom_n of_o the_o worker_n nor_o value_n of_o the_o work._n 2._o thus_o concern_v the_o nature_n of_o the_o soul_n now_o concern_v the_o faculty_n whereby_o it_o be_v enable_v to_o move_v to_o that_o end._n and_o these_o have_v a_o threefold_a use_n 1._o first_o they_o serve_v as_o fit_a receptacle_n to_o entertain_v and_o be_v unite_v unto_o that_o good_a which_o be_v the_o proper_a end_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o hold_v some_o proportion_n with_o that_o object_n wherein_o the_o happiness_n of_o the_o soul_n consist_v 2._o they_o serve_v as_o receptacle_n to_o receive_v that_o rule_n or_o law_n which_o must_v conduce_v to_o that_o end_n and_o therefore_o they_o be_v likewise_o fit_v for_o that_o 3._o they_o serve_v as_o help_v and_o carry_v they_o on_o to_o that_o good_a according_a to_o that_o rule_n or_o propension_n the_o two_o great_a affection_n that_o every_o be_v be_v endue_v with_o be_v the_o truth_n of_o its_o be_v and_o the_o goodness_n of_o it_o answerable_a to_o those_o be_v the_o two_o great_a faculty_n or_o power_n of_o the_o soul_n the_o understanding_n which_o be_v conversant_a about_o the_o former_a and_o the_o will_n which_o be_v conversant_a about_o the_o latter_a yet_o in_o the_o very_a same_o faculty_n both_o these_o be_v conjoin_v under_o their_o distinct_a notion_n the_o understanding_n take_v into_o consideration_n the_o truth_n of_o that_o which_o be_v propound_v as_o good_a and_o the_o will_n be_v carry_v with_o a_o desire_n to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o truth_n as_o good._n now_o concern_v the_o understanding_n it_o have_v a_o threefold_a power_n 1._o a_o receptive_a or_o passive_a power_n whereby_o it_o take_v in_o those_o object_n that_o be_v convey_v to_o it_o by_o a_o impression_n from_o without_o whether_o it_o be_v by_o the_o ordinary_a and_o natural_a way_n of_o the_o sense_n or_o by_o a_o supernatural_a impression_n or_o by_o artificial_a mean_n as_o speech_n or_o read_v or_o other_o sign_n and_o thus_o it_o receive_v not_o only_o simple_a apprehension_n but_o likewise_o complex_n or_o proposition_n now_o without_o this_o receptive_a power_n it_o be_v impossible_a for_o any_o knowledge_n to_o be_v in_o the_o soul_n because_o our_o knowledge_n be_v not_o by_o intuition_n as_o the_o divine_a knowledge_n be_v but_o by_o reception_n of_o the_o thing_n know_v into_o the_o soul._n and_o hence_o it_o be_v plain_a that_o all_o knowledge_n be_v extrinsical_a to_o the_o soul_n for_o though_o it_o be_v apta_fw-la nata_fw-la to_o receive_v the_o species_n understanding_n the_o rule_n whereby_o this_o active_a power_n of_o the_o understanding_n work_v be_v that_o we_o call_v reason_n which_o be_v but_o a_o beam_n of_o the_o divine_a light_n a_o part_n of_o the_o image_n of_o god_n in_o man_n and_o of_o singular_a use_n in_o all_o his_o action_n if_o right_o use_v de_fw-fr hoc_fw-la infra_fw-la now_o as_o all_o receptive_a or_o passive_a power_n the_o sense_n and_o the_o knowledge_n of_o principle_n and_o these_o be_v of_o two_o kind_n 1._o such_o as_o be_v per_fw-la se_fw-la nota_fw-la and_o without_o any_o argumentation_n be_v subscribe_v unto_o as_o many_o principle_n in_o the_o mathematics_n 2._o such_o as_o be_v inscribe_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n by_o the_o maker_n of_o man._n thus_o without_o all_o question_n at_o first_o if_o a_o man_n therefore_o know_v all_o the_o finite_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n yet_o be_v not_o the_o understanding_n so_o fill_v but_o be_v there_o more_o to_o be_v know_v he_o will_v have_v motion_n of_o the_o will_n nothing_o below_o a_o infinite_a good_a can_v satisfy_v it_o and_o now_o as_o we_o have_v argue_v upward_o from_o the_o capacity_n and_o vastness_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o its_o faculty_n that_o nothing_o below_o a_o infinite_a good_a can_v be_v its_o end_n so_o we_o must_v argue_v downward_o too_o the_o great_a and_o wise_a creator_n who_o have_v the_o disposition_n of_o all_o thing_n to_o their_o end_n and_o who_o in_o his_o infinite_a wisdom_n have_v put_v motion_n and_o capacity_n in_o all_o thing_n conduce_v and_o fit_a for_o those_o end_n for_o which_o he_o have_v ordain_v they_o have_v appoint_v himself_o to_o be_v the_o end_n of_o his_o immortal_a creature_n and_o therefore_o have_v put_v in_o the_o soul_n a_o capacity_n too_o large_a for_o any_o anxious_a trouble_a crave_v unsatisfied_a mind_n now_o when_o the_o soul_n true_o know_v and_o be_v true_o set_v upon_o his_o supreme_a end_n it_o know_v its_o duty_n and_o therefore_o be_v not_o idle_a it_o know_v the_o power_n of_o his_o maker_n therefore_o be_v not_o anxious_a and_o know_v the_o use_n and_o value_n of_o the_o creature_n and_o therefore_o value_v it_o no_o far_o than_o it_o be_v useful_a to_o its_o proper_a end_n it_o know_v the_o love_n and_o wisdom_n of_o his_o maker_n and_o therefore_o refer_v all_o to_o he_o as_o he_o that_o want_v neither_o power_n to_o provide_v for_o it_o nor_o wisdom_n to_o proportion_n nor_o love_n to_o communicate_v according_a to_o the_o exigence_n of_o my_o condition_n and_o admit_v he_o do_v his_o will_n must_v be_v do_v and_o not_o angelical_a way_n or_o how_o far_o it_o be_v able_a to_o retain_v or_o improve_v those_o conception_n and_o species_n that_o it_o have_v here_o and_o whether_o it_o have_v a_o complete_a operation_n or_o what_o degree_n of_o fruition_n it_o have_v of_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n it_o be_v above_o our_o reach_n to_o determine_v only_o this_o we_o may_v conjecture_v that_o the_o soul_n be_v not_o place_v in_o that_o perfect_a degree_n of_o be_v and_o subsistence_n as_o be_v the_o angel_n in_o as_o much_o as_o it_o be_v make_v in_o order_n to_o a_o body_n by_o which_o in_o it_o it_o exercise_v its_o motion_n faculty_n and_o operation_n and_o therefore_o without_o all_o question_n when_o it_o shall_v hereafter_o be_v reunite_v to_o a_o most_o perfect_a spiritualised_a body_n indissoluble_o
