conduce_v to_o our_o peace_n the_o simple_a or_o real_a thing_n that_o belong_v unto_o our_o peace_n be_v the_o good_a thing_n themselves_o which_o lie_v wrap_v up_o in_o those_o divine_a axiom_n or_o notion_n of_o sacred_a scripture_n namely_o god_n in_o christ_n heaven_n etc._n etc._n the_o former_a be_v the_o object_n of_o faith_n assent_n the_o late_a of_o its_o consent_n election_n and_o choice_n again_o the_o notional_a thing_n that_o belong_v to_o our_o peace_n which_o be_v the_o complexe_n object_n of_o faith_n assent_n may_v be_v consider_v by_o we_o 1._o material_o 2._o formal_o the_o material_a complexe_n object_n of_o faith_n assent_n be_v the_o scriptural_a notion_n which_o faith_n assent_v unto_o the_o formal_a object_n of_o faith_n assent_n be_v the_o formal_a reason_n proper_a motive_n or_o principal_a ground_n of_o its_o assent_n that_o which_o induce_v or_o draw_v our_o mind_n to_o assent_v unto_o sacred_a scriptural_a notion_n as_o also_o constitute_v specify_v and_o distinguish_v divine_a save_a assent_n last_o the_o notional_a material_a object_n of_o our_o assent_n be_v either_o general_n or_o particular_a the_o general_a object_n be_v the_o whole_a word_n of_o god_n the_o particular_a be_v the_o gospel_n or_o covenant_n of_o grace_n which_o give_v we_o a_o more_o particular_a and_o express_a idea_n of_o the_o thing_n that_o belong_v to_o our_o peace_n the_o thing_n that_o belong_v unto_o our_o peace_n be_v thus_o distribute_v according_a to_o their_o several_a constitution_n and_o regard_v to_o faith_n we_o may_v with_o more_o facility_n and_o perspicuity_n determine_v and_o resolve_v our_o question_n what_o it_o be_v not_o to_o know_v the_o thing_n that_o belong_v unto_o our_o peace_n but_o before_o we_o enter_v on_o the_o explication_n of_o unbelief_n we_o must_v premise_v that_o our_o intendment_n be_v to_o treat_v of_o it_o in_o its_o general_n and_o abstract_a nature_n and_o not_o as_o it_o relate_v to_o this_o or_o that_o subject_n for_o albeit_o our_o text_n speak_v of_o the_o unbelief_n of_o person_n irregenerate_a yet_o inasmuch_o as_o the_o unbelief_n of_o person_n regenerate_v differ_v not_o total_o from_o that_o in_o person_n irregenerate_a we_o may_v very_o well_o and_o proper_o treat_v of_o both_o under_o one_o general_a idea_n though_o with_o different_a reflection_n on_o and_o application_n to_o this_o or_o that_o subject_a thus_o much_o be_v premise_v we_o proceed_v to_o the_o explication_n of_o our_o question_n first_o god_n we_o shall_v begin_v with_o the_o notional_a material_a general_a thing_n that_o belong_v unto_o our_o peace_n which_o be_v the_o sacred_a scripture_n or_o word_n of_o god_n in_o the_o general_n which_o not_o to_o know_v or_o true_o assent_v unto_o be_v the_o original_n and_o no_o small_a part_n of_o unbelief_n oh_o here_o lie_v the_o the_o bitter_a root_n and_o spawn_n of_o all_o jerusalem_n sin_n and_o misery_n she_o do_v not_o understand_v at_o least_o not_o practic_o assent_v unto_o the_o sacred_a scripture_n in_o which_o all_o the_o thing_n that_o belong_v to_o her_o peace_n lie_v wrap_v up_o moses_n and_o the_o prophet_n be_v a_o sacred_a map_n wherein_o jerusalem_n may_v have_v view_v the_o celestial_a canaan_n her_o messiah_n his_o glorious_a name_n and_o title_n of_o honour_n his_o person_n and_o office_n with_o all_o other_o thing_n those_o to_o be_v under_o the_o power_n of_o unbelief_n who_o be_v never_o true_o sensible_a of_o the_o power_n of_o it_o be_v not_o infidelity_n as_o it_o have_v be_v show_v the_o great_a sin_n and_o therefore_o aught_o to_o have_v the_o great_a sense_n what_o be_v the_o main_a and_o first_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o bondage_n but_o to_o convince_v the_o unbelieving_a world_n of_o their_o unbelief_n as_o john_n 16._o 9_o and_o can_v man_n be_v convince_v of_o it_o unless_o they_o study_v and_o observe_v the_o nature_n and_o work_n of_o it_o why_o be_v it_o that_o the_o most_o of_o be_v so_o much_o under_o the_o prevalence_n of_o unbelief_n but_o because_o they_o have_v not_o that_o sense_n of_o its_o indwel_n and_o prevalence_n which_o they_o ought_v to_o have_v do_v believer_n conceal_v itself_o in_o all_o its_o act_n do_v it_o not_o then_o great_o concern_v all_o both_o believer_n and_o unbeliever_n to_o study_v well_o the_o nature_n cause_n and_o malign_v influence_n of_o unbelief_n oh_o how_o much_o of_o infidelity_n may_v we_o find_v in_o every_o sin_n be_v we_o but_o wel-skilled_n in_o the_o nature_n and_o work_n of_o it_o but_o alas_o what_o mystery_n and_o riddle_n be_v unbeliever_n to_o themselves_o how_o unacquainted_a be_v they_o with_o the_o spiritual_a cunning_a and_o subtle_a turn_n and_o wind_n of_o their_o unbelieve_a heart_n be_v it_o not_o then_o the_o great_a concern_v of_o all_o to_o be_v great_o intent_n on_o the_o study_n of_o and_o inquisition_n into_o the_o nature_n operation_n and_o effect_n of_o unbelief_n but_o above_o allthing_n we_o shall_v much_o contemplate_v infidelity_n and_o inquire_v into_o the_o cause_n of_o infidelity_n be_v not_o he_o the_o wise_a philosopher_n who_o contemplate_v and_o understand_v best_a the_o cause_n of_o thing_n and_o do_v not_o man_n account_v he_o the_o most_o able_a physician_n who_o give_v the_o best_a conjecture_n at_o the_o cause_n of_o a_o disease_n so_o in_o like_a manner_n may_v we_o not_o repute_v he_o among_o the_o most_o understand_a believer_n who_o be_v best_a skill_v in_o discern_v the_o cause_n of_o unbelief_n sure_o allthing_n be_v best_a know_v in_o and_o by_o their_o cause_n o_o then_o if_o thou_o will_v understand_v the_o black_a nature_n of_o infidelity_n study_n and_o inquire_v narrow_o into_o its_o cause_n inquire_v into_o that_o sovereign_n what_o a_o efficacious_a influence_n have_v the_o darkness_n of_o conscience_n on_o the_o darkness_n of_o infidelity_n study_v also_o how_o much_o carnal_a reason_n do_v promote_v infidelity_n reason_n what_o more_o contrary_a to_o faith_n than_o carnal_a reason_n when_o man_n endeavour_v to_o measure_n the_o promise_n or_o providence_n the_o word_n or_o work_v of_o god_n by_o carnal_a wisdom_n what_o black_a jealousy_n and_o suspicion_n of_o god_n love_n care_n and_o faithfulness_n proceed_v thence_o how_o be_v the_o unbeliever_n heart_n fill_v with_o black_a ugly_a
