faith_n be_v define_v by_o the_o apostle_n in_o that_o place_n but_o that_o that_o definition_n of_o faith_n be_v common_a to_o all_o the_o signification_n of_o faith_n as_o be_v plain_a enough_o by_o that_o induction_n of_o example_n which_o follow_v in_o that_o place_n and_o chapter_n neither_o be_v that_o their_o argument_n which_o they_o gather_v out_o of_o the_o coherence_n of_o the_o text_n 11._o 1._o a_o general_a definition_n of_o faith_n common_a to_o all_o kind_n of_o faith_n faith_n and_o miraculous_a etc._n etc._n as_o be_v evident_a by_o the_o induction_n that_o follow_v see_v therefore_o that_o this_o definition_n do_v not_o only_o belong_v to_o justify_v faith_n it_o follow_v that_o out_o of_o this_o definition_n they_o get_v not_o that_o they_o will_v have_v namely_o and_o do_v arise_v in_o this_o respect_n because_o we_o have_v offend_v so_o merciful_a and_o so_o love_v a_o father_n it_o be_v then_o a_o joy_n mix_v with_o sorrow_n &_o with_o the_o unspeakable_a and_o glorious_a joy_n of_o faith_n have_v join_v with_o it_o sigh_n that_o can_v be_v express_v and_o thus_o much_o also_o of_o the_o late_a sorrow_n now_o let_v we_o see_v how_o both_o these_o kind_n of_o sorrow_n belong_v unto_o sound_a repentance_n that_o first_o sorrow_n which_o be_v of_o the_o law_n and_o be_v conceive_v by_o reason_n of_o the_o punishment_n which_o follow_v sin_n i_o confess_v it_o be_v no_o part_n of_o this_o holy_a change_n and_o conversion_n unto_o god_n for_o of_o it_o own_o nature_n it_o do_v rather_o estrange_v we_o from_o god_n then_o convert_v we_o to_o gospel_n the_o terror_n of_o the_o law_n a_o preparative_n for_o the_o gospel_n god_n and_o in_o very_a deed_n it_o do_v altogether_o alienate_v the_o wicked_a from_o god_n as_o from_o a_o terrible_a judge_n notwithstanding_o in_o repentance_n it_o have_v his_o use_n for_o it_o prepare_v the_o elect_a by_o give_v they_o sense_n of_o their_o misery_n to_o that_o grace_n and_o mercy_n which_o be_v propound_v in_o the_o gospel_n the_o latter_a sorrow_n which_o be_v according_a to_o god_n and_o be_v effect_v by_o the_o gospel_n be_v proper_o a_o part_n of_o repentance_n and_o do_v effect_v that_o change_n of_o the_o mind_n and_o reason_n before_o specify_v and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n say_v 2._o cor._n 7._o that_o the_o sorrow_n which_o be_v according_a to_o god_n cause_v repentance_n and_o thus_o far_o of_o the_o first_o part_n of_o this_o benefit_n which_o be_v find_v to_o be_v in_o sorrow_n the_o other_o follow_v which_o be_v call_v proper_o by_o the_o apostle_n 2._o cor._n vers_fw-la 7._o a_o change_n of_o the_o mind_n for_o there_o follow_v after_o that_o godly_a sorrow_n a_o certain_a wonderful_a change_n of_o the_o mind_n of_o the_o will_n and_o of_o the_o heart_n acknowledgement_n wrought_v in_o we_o first_o of_o sin_n and_o of_o our_o misery_n by_o the_o law_n next_o of_o mercy_n by_o the_o gospel_n therefore_o the_o change_n of_o the_o mind_n which_o follow_v this_o sorrow_n it_o pertain_v to_o the_o faculty_n or_o judgement_n of_o reason_n which_o also_o be_v call_v the_o counsel_n and_o purpose_n of_o the_o mind_n act._n 11._o 23._o he_o exhort_v they_o that_o with_o one_o purpose_n of_o heart_n they_o will_v cleave_v unto_o the_o lord_n and_o the_o judgement_n or_o counsel_n of_o the_o mind_n be_v change_v in_o this_o sort_n the_o which_o be_v commit_v or_o it_o decline_v from_o it_o and_o allow_v the_o good_a to_o be_v do_v hereafter_o or_o incline_v thereunto_o there_o be_v there_o two_o part_n of_o this_o change_n first_o a_o declination_n from_o the_o evil_a commit_v second_o a_o inclination_n to_o the_o good_a which_o be_v or_o aught_o to_o be_v do_v after_o the_o will_n 2._o change_v of_o the_o will_n change_n of_o the_o will_n follow_v the_o change_n of_o the_o hart_n which_o be_v on_o this_o manner_n the_o heart_n hate_v and_o detest_v that_o evil_a which_o it_o have_v heretofore_o do_v and_o it_o love_v and_o affect_v the_o good_a which_o hereafter_o it_o ought_v to_o do_v there_o be_v therefore_o two_o part_n of_o this_o change_n the_o first_o be_v the_o detestation_n heart_n 3._o change_v of_o the_o heart_n of_o evil_n do_v and_o commit_v the_o second_o be_v the_o love_n of_o that_o good_a which_o ought_v to_o be_v do_v in_o general_a therefore_o there_o be_v two_o part_n of_o that_o change_n of_o the_o mind_n which_o be_v a_o effect_n of_o sorrow_n the_o first_o be_v a_o change_n from_o evil_a and_o from_o sin_n commit_v the_o second_o be_v a_o change_n to_o good_a hereafter_o to_o be_v practise_v and_o follow_v common_o these_o part_n be_v call_v mortification_n and_o vivification_n but_o i_o know_v not_o how_o right_o &_o just_o for_o mortification_n and_o vivification_n be_v proper_o part_n of_o regeneration_n which_o do_v differ_v from_o repentance_n as_o shall_v be_v see_v differ_v regeneration_n and_o repentance_n differ_v hereafter_o by_o that_o which_o have_v be_v already_o say_v we_o understand_v what_o be_v the_o especial_a point_n of_o repentance_n from_o whence_o it_o proceed_v and_o whereunto_o it_o serve_v the_o point_n from_o whence_o it_o proceed_v be_v the_o evil_a or_o sin_n commit_v the_o point_n to_o which_o it_o tend_v be_v the_o good_a hereafter_o to_o be_v do_v repentance_n therefore_o stand_v between_o two_o action_n past_a and_o future_a and_o it_o do_v differ_v from_o regeneration_n for_o the_o point_n thereof_o be_v not_o deed_n and_o action_n but_o quality_n to_o wit_n the_o corruption_n of_o nature_n or_o the_o old_a man_n and_o
