corruption_n and_o so_o make_v some_o application_n of_o it_o first_o then_o in_o what_o respect_n the_o remain_a part_n of_o sin_n and_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n be_v a_o burden_n the_o first_o burden_n of_o corruption_n first_o it_o be_v a_o burden_n of_o grief_n unto_o they_o you_o know_v grief_n cause_v heaviness_n and_o sadness_n now_o the_o remainder_n of_o corruption_n that_o they_o find_v in_o they_o it_o be_v as_o lead_v and_o lie_v heavy_a upon_o their_o spirit_n in_o regard_n of_o grief_n it_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o their_o grief_n and_o trouble_n some_o will_v say_v perhaps_o sometime_o to_o other_o such_o and_o such_o that_o be_v professor_n of_o religion_n they_o go_v very_o sad_o and_o heavy_o and_o when_o once_o you_o come_v to_o be_v so_o strict_a in_o your_o way_n you_o will_v loose_v all_o your_o comfort_n for_o such_o and_o such_o be_v always_o sad_a and_o pensive_a but_o do_v you_o know_v what_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o their_o sadness_n you_o have_v as_o much_o cause_n to_o be_v sad_a as_o they_o the_o burden_n be_v not_o because_o they_o be_v religious_a but_o because_o they_o be_v no_o more_o religious_a not_o because_o now_o they_o do_v more_o duty_n than_o they_o do_v before_o but_o because_o they_o can_v find_v their_o heart_n come_v up_o to_o their_o duty_n as_o they_o will_v do_v not_o attribute_n their_o grief_n to_o their_o godliness_n but_o rather_o say_v to_o thyself_o thus_o if_o they_o that_o do_v so_o much_o for_o god_n be_v yet_o so_o much_o trouble_v and_o grieve_v because_o they_o do_v no_o more_o for_o god_n how_o much_o cause_n of_o trouble_n and_o grief_n have_v i_o then_o that_o do_v nothing_o at_o all_o for_o god_n the_o second_o burden_n of_o corruption_n second_o the_o remain_a part_n of_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n it_o be_v a_o burden_n of_o shame_n grief_n be_v a_o burden_n and_o shame_n be_v a_o burden_n many_o that_o can_v bear_v great_a burden_n that_o can_v bear_v the_o burden_n of_o poverty_n yet_o be_v not_o able_a to_o bear_v the_o burden_n of_o disgrace_n especial_o to_o those_o that_o be_v most_o ingenious_a it_o be_v one_o of_o the_o great_a burden_n in_o the_o world_n now_o the_o saint_n they_o be_v ashamed_a of_o the_o corruption_n that_o remain_v in_o they_o they_o account_v it_o a_o shame_n before_o the_o lord_n and_o before_o his_o bless_a angel_n and_o in_o regard_n of_o themselves_o what_o they_o know_v of_o themselves_o that_o the_o world_n know_v not_o of_o they_o look_v upon_o it_o as_o ashame_n that_o they_o do_v even_o loath_a and_o abhor_v themselves_o as_o the_o scripture_n speak_v it_o may_v be_v their_o life_n be_v such_o as_o other_o do_v honour_n and_o have_v high_a thought_n of_o they_o but_o they_o be_v acquaint_v with_o their_o own_o heart_n and_o look_v into_o the_o secret_a work_n of_o their_o own_o spirit_n they_o see_v so_o much_o evil_n there_o as_o they_o see_v much_o cause_n to_o abhor_v and_o loathe_v themselves_o and_o to_o lie_v down_o in_o their_o shame_n before_o the_o lord_n who_o they_o know_v do_v see_v into_o their_o heart_n a_o great_a deal_n more_o than_o they_o can_v see_v themselves_o i_o will_v appeal_v to_o any_o one_o that_o know_v his_o own_o heart_n if_o god_n shall_v open_v your_o heart_n and_o make_v it_o know_v to_o your_o friend_n and_o acquaintance_n so_o much_o evil_a as_o be_v in_o your_o heart_n in_o the_o perform_n of_o one_o duty_n if_o all_o man_n shall_v know_v so_o much_o evil_a as_o be_v in_o your_o heart_n at_o one_o time_n in_o prayer_n or_o hear_v a_o sermon_n will_v you_o not_o be_v ashamed_a now_o god_n know_v and_o see_v all_o the_o baseness_n and_o vildness_n of_o your_o spirit_n and_o the_o godly_a know_v this_o they_o can_v but_o be_v ashamed_a and_o go_v under_o this_o burden_n of_o shame_n with_o heavy_a heart_n the_o three_o burden_n of_o corruption_n three_o the_o remain_a part_n of_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o godly_a it_o carry_v with_o it_o a_o burden_n of_o fear_n fear_v you_o know_v be_v a_o great_a burden_n as_o well_o as_o grief_n and_o shame_n though_o the_o evil_n be_v not_o so_o great_a upon_o they_o yet_o if_o their_o be_v a_o evil_n apprehend_v to_o come_v upon_o they_o it_o be_v a_o great_a burden_n to_o they_o as_o those_o that_o dare_v not_o go_v out_o of_o door_n in_o the_o night_n because_o of_o fear_n or_o dare_v not_o be_v in_o the_o dark_a because_o of_o fear_n when_o they_o be_v deliver_v from_o their_o fear_n do_v they_o not_o account_v that_o it_o be_v a_o great_a burden_n now_o the_o godly_a they_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o fear_n upon_o their_o heart_n and_o the_o truth_n be_v those_o that_o be_v godly_a they_o fear_v more_o what_o their_o own_o evil_a heart_n shall_v bring_v upon_o they_o than_o what_o all_o the_o devil_n in_o hell_n and_o all_o the_o creature_n in_o the_o world_n can_v bring_v upon_o they_o and_o that_o be_v a_o good_a fear_n but_o yet_o it_o make_v they_o walk_v heavy_o other_o fear_v sometime_o they_o fear_v man_n fear_v those_o that_o will_v come_v and_o take_v away_o their_o estate_n and_o undo_v they_o fear_v their_o enemy_n or_o fear_v the_o devil_n but_o one_o that_o be_v godly_a he_o fear_v more_o his_o own_o heart_n the_o evil_a that_o may_v come_v to_o his_o soul_n by_o that_o than_o all_o the_o hurt_n that_o all_o the_o devil_n in_o hell_n can_v do_v to_o he_o for_o they_o can_v afflict_v more_o than_o the_o body_n i_o but_o this_o bring_v a_o evil_a upon_o the_o soul_n it_o break_v their_o communion_n between_o they_o and_o god_n and_o therefore_o they_o be_v afraid_a of_o sin_n before_o it_o come_v they_o have_v experience_n of_o their_o heart_n what_o evil_a it_o have_v do_v to_o they_o and_o so_o be_v afraid_a of_o miscarry_v and_o afraid_a of_o the_o evil_a consequence_n of_o their_o sin_n they_o do_v not_o know_v what_o mischief_n their_o sin_n may_v possible_o bring_v upon_o they_o and_o so_o they_o go_v under_o this_o burden_n of_o fear_n along_o time_n together_o even_o those_o that_o be_v true_o godly_a the_o four_o burden_n of_o corruption_n four_o the_o remain_a part_n of_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n be_v a_o burden_n of_o care_n for_o man_n and_o woman_n to_o be_v always_o careful_a to_o be_v full_a of_o care_n you_o know_v that_o be_v a_o great_a burden_n that_o many_o of_o you_o be_v acquaint_v with_o that_o when_o you_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o business_n upon_o you_o and_o much_o lie_v upon_o you_o when_o your_o thought_n be_v full_a of_o care_n be_v it_o not_o a_o great_a burden_n to_o you_o many_o man_n that_o have_v be_v full_a of_o business_n and_o afterward_o have_v get_v over_o their_o business_n what_o a_o freedom_n do_v they_o account_v it_o the_o saint_n they_o have_v a_o burden_n of_o care_n upon_o they_o because_o they_o find_v so_o much_o to_o do_v with_o their_o own_o heart_n that_o they_o have_v need_n be_v watchful_a night_n and_o day_n over_o they_o they_o have_v have_v experience_n what_o their_o heart_n have_v do_v when_o there_o have_v not_o be_v a_o strict_a watch_n over_o â—hem_n and_o therefore_o there_o be_v no_o child_n of_o god_n but_o if_o he_o be_v in_o a_o right_a temper_n he_o be_v a_o careful_a man_n so_o long_o as_o we_o live_v in_o this_o flesh_n our_o condition_n be_v full_a of_o fear_n and_o so_o we_o must_v need_v be_v full_a of_o care_n in_o this_o world_n though_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o difference_n between_o the_o distract_n care_n that_o wicked_a man_n have_v about_o their_o outward_a estate_n and_o the_o care_n of_o the_o godly_a about_o keep_v their_o
thou_o so_o much_o as_o from_o his_o son_n in_o one_o regard_n that_o be_v thou_o have_v not_o such_o a_o dreadful_a apprehension_n of_o god_n withdraw_v from_o thou_o as_o christ_n have_v for_o christ_n will_v never_o have_v cry_v out_o else_o my_o god_n my_o god_n why_o have_v thou_o forsake_v i_o this_o be_v a_o real_a thing_n christ_n do_v not_o speak_v at_o uncertainty_n he_o do_v feel_v a_o withdraw_n of_o the_o influence_n sweetness_n and_o comfort_n of_o the_o lord_n though_o still_o he_o have_v union_n with_o he_o by_o nature_n and_o he_o be_v his_o father_n as_o before_o but_o the_o human_a nature_n do_v not_o feel_v the_o influence_n of_o the_o grace_n and_o sweetness_n and_o the_o shine_n of_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n as_o at_o other_o time_n and_o therefore_o he_o cry_v out_o my_o god_n my_o god_n why_o have_v thou_o forsake_v i_o exercise_v thy_o faith_n upon_o christ_n as_o one_o that_o be_v in_o spiritual_a desertion_n it_o be_v true_a perhaps_o that_o christ_n do_v not_o come_v to_o determine_v himself_o that_o he_o be_v utter_o forsake_v as_o thou_o do_v but_o christ_n be_v apprehensive_a of_o god_n withdraw_v himself_o and_o therefore_o this_o may_v bring_v ease_n and_o rest_v unto_o thy_o soul_n and_o the_o rather_o because_o that_o his_o be_v so_o forsake_v it_o be_v to_o sanctify_v thy_o be_v forsake_v it_o be_v to_o take_v away_o the_o curse_n of_o those_o desertion_n that_o thou_o have_v in_o thyself_o such_o desertion_n as_o be_v in_o any_o affliction_n material_o they_o be_v a_o curse_n they_o be_v such_o thing_n as_o in_o their_o own_o nature_n be_v a_o curse_n christ_n be_v so_o forsake_v by_o the_o father_n do_v take_v away_o the_o curse_n that_o be_v in_o spiritual_a desertion_n and_o there_o be_v no_o such_o way_n for_o the_o soul_n that_o be_v in_o spiritual_a desertion_n as_o to_o look_v up_o to_o christ_n and_o to_o consider_v that_o christ_n be_v forsake_v for_o my_o sake_n christ_n be_v forsake_v for_o i_o that_o i_o may_v not_o be_v eternal_o forsake_v so_o there_o be_v these_o three_o thing_n in_o look_v up_o to_o christ_n as_o forsake_v first_o thou_o see_v that_o the_o lord_n that_o be_v the_o belove_a son_n of_o god_n be_v forsake_v forsake_v by_o god_n second_o here_o thou_o may_v see_v the_o merit_n of_o this_o that_o it_o be_v to_o sanctify_v thy_o forsake_v that_o thy_o forsake_v may_v not_o be_v a_o curse_n to_o thou_o three_o it_o be_v that_o thou_o may_v not_o be_v eternal_o forsake_v by_o god_n so_o that_o by_o exercise_v of_o thy_o faith_n thus_o upon_o he_o thou_o may_v get_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o rest_n and_o ease_n unto_o thy_o soul_n a_o carnal_a heart_n when_o he_o find_v this_o terror_n of_o spirit_n he_o run_v to_o his_o company_n music_n good_a cheer_n and_o business_n of_o the_o world_n but_o a_o gracious_a heart_n run_v to_o christ_n and_o go_v to_o he_o that_o be_v thus_o forsake_v of_o the_o lord_n for_o he_o second_o if_o thou_o be_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o spiritual_a desertion_n then_o look_v up_o to_o christ_n as_o be_v such_o a_o mediator_n as_o be_v full_a of_o grace_n and_o goodness_n there_o be_v such_o a_o fullness_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o he_o as_o make_v he_o a_o sufficient_a object_n for_o the_o faith_n of_o adherence_n when_o he_o can_v be_v unto_o i_o a_o object_n of_o the_o faith_n of_o evidence_n i_o say_v we_o be_v to_o exercise_v faith_n upon_o christ_n when_o we_o be_v under_o this_o burden_n of_o spiritual_a desertion_n thus_o we_o be_v to_o look_v upon_o christ_n as_o be_v the_o fullness_n of_o the_o godhead_n of_o all_o the_o treasure_n of_o grace_n and_o goodness_n have_v so_o much_o of_o the_o grace_n and_o mercy_n of_o god_n in_o he_o as_o shall_v make_v he_o a_o fit_a object_n of_o the_o faith_n of_o adherence_n though_o he_o be_v not_o now_o to_o i_o a_o object_n of_o the_o faith_n of_o evidence_n quest_n you_o will_v say_v what_o be_v the_o meaning_n of_o that_o i_o mean_v will_v cleave_v and_o cling_v here_o now_o be_v the_o faith_n of_o adherence_n now_o because_o there_o be_v so_o much_o grace_n in_o it_o therefore_o christ_n may_v be_v a_o great_a object_n of_o thy_o faith_n of_o adherence_n when_o thou_o can_v not_o see_v he_o to_o be_v a_o object_n of_o the_o faith_n of_o evidence_n and_o that_o be_v a_o way_n to_o help_v the_o soul_n in_o time_n of_o spiritual_a desertion_n when_o many_o poor_a soul_n be_v under_o spiritual_a affliction_n and_o desertion_n they_o think_v of_o no_o other_o faith_n to_o rest_v upon_o christ_n but_o bare_o upon_o the_o faith_n of_o evidence_n and_o when_o they_o have_v evidence_n to_o their_o soul_n that_o christ_n be_v they_o and_o that_o from_o some_o fruit_n of_o grace_n in_o they_o than_o they_o rely_v upon_o he_o but_o now_o learn_v that_o there_o be_v such_o a_o faith_n the_o faith_n of_o adherence_n and_o christ_n may_v appear_v to_o a_o soul_n as_o a_o fit_a object_n to_o the_o soul_n for_o the_o faith_n of_o adherence_n when_o he_o can_v be_v to_o it_o a_o object_n of_o the_o faith_n of_o evidence_n three_o another_o help_n to_o the_o soul_n that_o be_v under_o spiritual_a desertion_n be_v this_o the_o soul_n in_o this_o case_n be_v to_o exercise_v faith_n upon_o christ_n as_o a_o advocate_n that_o be_v at_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o the_o father_n to_o plead_v the_o cause_n of_o his_o people_n that_o scripture_n you_o have_v often_o name_v to_o you_o in_o 1_o john_n 2.1_o if_o any_o man_n sin_n we_o have_v a_o advocate_n with_o the_o father_n christ_n be_v at_o the_o right_a necessary_a to_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o law_n as_o it_o come_v by_o moses_n in_o one_o sense_n that_o be_v thus_o moses_n be_v a_o type_n of_o christ_n as_o a_o mediator_n for_o so_o he_o be_v be_v what_o it_o will_v yet_o except_o it_o be_v perfect_a it_o be_v all_o reject_v all_o that_o be_v in_o their_o natural_a condition_n and_o under_o the_o first_o covenant_n whatever_o they_o do_v if_o there_o be_v any_o imperfection_n mingle_v with_o it_o it_o be_v not_o at_o all_o accept_v but_o here_o be_v the_o rest_n that_o believer_n have_v that_o the_o case_n be_v alter_v with_o they_o now_o though_o there_o be_v much_o corruption_n remain_v in_o they_o if_o the_o lord_n see_v but_o one_o spark_n of_o grace_n though_o never_o so_o weak_a though_o it_o be_v but_o as_o the_o smoke_a flax_n as_o the_o bruise_a reed_n yet_o they_o be_v accept_v of_o god_n have_v but_o the_o least_o spark_n of_o any_o good_a at_o all_o in_o they_o this_o be_v a_o mighty_a ease_n to_o the_o soul_n of_o those_o that_o labour_n under_o the_o bondage_n of_o the_o law_n that_o before_o see_v so_o much_o corruption_n in_o their_o heart_n they_o have_v little_a hope_n of_o acceptation_n of_o any_o thing_n that_o be_v in_o they_o now_o the_o lord_n have_v regard_n to_o any_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a be_v it_o never_o so_o small_a yea_o and_o he_o will_v find_v it_o out_o too_o perhaps_o thy_o grace_n may_v be_v so_o small_a that_o it_o may_v be_v bury_v in_o the_o heâ—â—_n of_o corruption_n that_o thou_o shall_v not_o be_v able_a to_o find_v it_o out_o the_o condition_n of_o some_o christian_n be_v as_o a_o maid_n that_o shall_v go_v in_o the_o morning_n to_o the_o hearth_n and_o there_o rake_v up_o and_o down_o in_o the_o ash_n to_o see_v if_o she_o can_v find_v some_o spark_n of_o fire_n and_o she_o find_v none_o and_o be_v ready_a to_o think_v there_o be_v none_o there_o but_o perhaps_o there_o may_v some_o spark_n lie_v in_o a_o corner_n though_o she_o find_v it_o not_o so_o it_o be_v here_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n be_v like_o the_o ash_n and_o grace_n be_v like_o some_o spark_n that_o lie_v in_o a_o corner_n and_o when_o poor_a soul_n go_v to_o examine_v their_o heart_n they_o see_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o ash_n a_o great_a deal_n of_o corruption_n and_o be_v ready_a to_o conclude_v the_o fire_n be_v out_o no_o spark_n there_o i_o but_o though_o rhou_fw-mi can_v not_o find_v a_o spark_n there_o yet_o be_v in_o christ_n god_n will_v find_v it_o when_o thou_o can_v not_o thyself_o if_o there_o be_v any_o that_o lie_v in_o any_o corner_n as_o we_o hope_v there_o be_v some_o spark_n in_o many_o though_o there_o be_v so_o much_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o many_o godly_a people_n that_o we_o wonder_v where_o their_o grace_n lie_v so_o much_o passion_n frowardness_n and_o the_o like_a well_o be_v it_o indeed_o that_o these_o be_v under_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n under_o the_o law_n that_o corruption_n that_o do_v appear_v in_o they_o will_v cause_v all_o to_o be_v cast_v off_o whatever_o may_v lie_v secret_o in_o their_o heart_n god_n will_v cast_v it_o off_o but_o now_o if_o they_o be_v such_o as_o be_v under_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o the_o lord_n have_v bring_v they_o to_o christ_n this_o be_v the_o rest_n and_o ease_n for_o their_o soul_n that_o all_o the_o corruption_n that_o be_v in_o they_o shall_v not_o hinder_v the_o acceptation_n of_o the_o least_o spark_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n that_o the_o lord_n have_v wrought_v in_o they_o four_o as_o the_o lord_n will_v find_v out_o every_o spark_n of_o good_a that_o be_v in_o they_o so_o even_o their_o desire_n and_o endeavour_n after_o the_o will_n of_o god_n though_o they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o attain_v to_o what_o they_o will_v it_o shall_v be_v accept_v as_o the_o deed_n the_o other_o be_v suppose_v you_o do_v not_o do_v the_o will_n of_o god_n yet_o if_o there_o be_v any_o habit_n any_o disposition_n any_o principle_n of_o grace_n though_o nothing_o be_v do_v though_o they_o can_v perceive_v any_o begin_n of_o it_o yet_o that_o shall_v be_v accept_v but_o this_o be_v further_a let_v they_o but_o strive_v to_o do_v god_n will_v let_v they_o labour_n after_o perfection_n and_o the_o lord_n accept_v the_o will_n for_o the_o deed_n hence_o in_o scripture_n those_o that_o be_v godly_a be_v call_v perfect_a as_o many_o as_o be_v perfect_a and_o be_v you_o perfect_a as_o your_o heavenly_a father_n be_v perfect_a quest_n you_o will_v say_v can_v we_o be_v perfect_a in_o this_o world_n answ_n no_o but_o this_o be_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o the_o gospel_n that_o those_o that_o come_v to_o christ_n the_o lord_n accept_v the_o will_n for_o the_o deed_n here_o be_v bless_a ease_n and_o rest_v for_o the_o soul_n in_o christ_n be_v thou_o under_o the_o law_n this_o can_v not_o be_v and_o though_o man_n say_v they_o do_v and_o they_o hope_v god_n will_v accept_v of_o their_o desire_n and_o endeavour_n it_o be_v true_a if_o thou_o be_v come_v to_o christ_n christ_n will_v accept_v
now_o this_o be_v a_o special_a thing_n to_o be_v speak_v of_o in_o this_o point_n how_o believer_n shall_v improve_v this_o and_o what_o it_o be_v that_o they_o shall_v learn_v by_o this_o and_o how_o helpful_a this_o will_v be_v to_o they_o and_o something_o for_o the_o satisfaction_n of_o those_o that_o doubt_v that_o they_o be_v not_o believer_n but_o we_o can_v do_v all_o thing_n at_o once_o this_o shall_v suffice_v for_o the_o present_a the_o mere_a present_v to_o your_o soul_n what_o rest_v there_o be_v in_o christ_n from_o the_o load_n of_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n from_o the_o load_n that_o many_o feel_v to_o be_v upon_o their_o soul_n through_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n chap._n xxxi_o contain_v divers_a consequence_n from_o the_o rest_n believer_n have_v from_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n and_o lesson_n they_o be_v teach_v from_o thence_o to_o proceed_v now_o there_o be_v divers_a thing_n that_o follow_v from_o hence_o from_o the_o rest_n that_o we_o have_v in_o christ_n from_o the_o burden_n and_o load_n of_o the_o law_n i_o shall_v speak_v very_o brief_o of_o they_o and_o so_o pass_v to_o what_o remain_v in_o the_o next_o burden_n and_o rest_n to_o that_o from_o hence_o follow_v exceed_v help_n unto_o believer_n against_o divers_a temptation_n that_o do_v exceed_o trouble_v the_o peace_n and_o rest_n of_o their_o soul_n if_o they_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o law_n in_o those_o several_a respect_n as_o at_o large_a have_v be_v open_v to_o you_o 1._o then_o first_o from_o the_o meditation_n of_o this_o their_o delivery_n they_o may_v have_v rest_n and_o ease_n from_o this_o temptation_n that_o because_o of_o some_o imperfection_n weakness_n and_o distemper_n of_o heart_n and_o sin_n that_o they_o be_v guilty_a of_o therefore_o they_o have_v no_o interest_n at_o all_o in_o christ_n they_o have_v no_o interest_n to_o believe_v in_o christ_n because_o of_o that_o the_o strength_n of_o this_o temptation_n can_v stand_v with_o the_o right_a knowledge_n of_o christ_n as_o deliver_v from_o the_o law_n if_o christ_n deliver_v from_o the_o law_n than_o a_o interest_n in_o christ_n may_v stand_v though_o we_o be_v not_o able_a to_o keep_v the_o law_n yea_o and_o further_o we_o know_v this_o that_o it_o be_v usual_a with_o believer_n upon_o the_o breach_n of_o the_o law_n in_o any_o thing_n to_o call_v their_o estate_n into_o question_n all_o into_o question_n certain_o if_o we_o know_v that_o we_o be_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n not_o by_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n not_o to_o be_v cast_v by_o the_o law_n we_o will_v never_o be_v so_o ready_a to_o call_v all_o into_o question_n upon_o any_o breach_n of_o the_o law_n that_o our_o conscience_n tell_v we_o we_o have_v be_v guilty_a of_o 2._o further_o this_o will_v marvellous_o help_v against_o this_o temptation_n likewise_o that_o god_n accept_v not_o of_o what_o we_o do_v because_o it_o be_v not_o perfect_a because_o it_o be_v not_o complete_a when_o believer_n look_v upon_o their_o duty_n that_o they_o do_v perform_v and_o see_v so_o many_o imperfection_n in_o they_o they_o dare_v not_o tender_v they_o up_o to_o god_n god_n be_v a_o infinite_a holy_a just_a god_n and_o they_o be_v ashamed_a of_o what_o they_o have_v do_v so_o as_o they_o dare_v not_o tender_v they_o up_o to_o god_n now_o the_o right_a knowledge_n of_o our_o deliverance_n from_o the_o law_n will_v help_v we_o against_o this_o temptation_n likewise_o remember_v o_o thou_o believer_n that_o thou_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n in_o a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n thou_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o he_o in_o christ_n through_o a_o better_a covenant_n than_o the_o covenant_n of_o the_o law_n 3._o further_o this_o will_v help_v against_o this_o temptation_n also_o that_o many_o time_n be_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n that_o because_o they_o hear_v of_o divers_a that_o have_v seem_v to_o have_v more_o than_o they_o have_v that_o have_v have_v more_o ability_n than_o they_o have_v have_v have_v be_v able_a to_o do_v more_o for_o god_n than_o they_o have_v do_v yet_o for_o all_o this_o have_v fall_v away_o and_o so_o it_o may_v be_v have_v perish_v for_o ever_o now_o say_v many_o a_o poor_a christian_a if_o such_o eminent_a man_n of_o such_o excellent_a ability_n that_o be_v able_a to_o do_v such_o great_a thing_n if_o they_o that_o go_v thus_o far_o fall_v away_o what_o shall_v become_v of_o such_o a_o poor_a creature_n as_o i_o be_o now_o by_o the_o understanding_n of_o our_o deliverance_n that_o we_o have_v from_o the_o law_n by_o christ_n we_o come_v to_o have_v help_n against_o this_o temptation_n for_o let_v a_o man_n have_v never_o such_o ability_n and_o be_v able_a to_o do_v never_o so_o much_o work_v yet_o this_o man_n may_v fall_v away_o when_o one_o that_o be_v a_o thousand_o time_n weak_a in_o regard_n of_o ability_n that_o have_v the_o least_o dram_n of_o true_a faith_n which_o bring_v he_o into_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n will_v stand_v such_o a_o one_o shall_v stand_v when_o the_o other_o fall_v if_o indeed_o thy_o stand_n do_v depend_v upon_o what_o strength_n thou_o have_v in_o thyself_o than_o thou_o have_v cause_n to_o lear_a that_o see_v such_o as_o do_v stand_v fall_v away_o what_o shall_v become_v of_o thou_o but_o we_o be_v to_o know_v that_o we_o be_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n in_o a_o way_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n our_o stand_n or_o fall_v do_v not_o depend_v upon_o any_o thing_n in_o ourselves_o but_o upon_o christ_n that_o have_v undertake_v for_o all_o those_o that_o be_v his_o member_n thou_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o be_v once_o bring_v into_o the_o covenant_n that_o will_v uphold_v thou_o though_o thou_o be_v weak_a when_o thousand_o of_o other_o that_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o natural_a ability_n and_o common_a gift_n of_o god_n spirit_n yet_o be_v not_o bring_v under_o this_o covenant_n may_v vanish_v yea_o have_v they_o the_o strength_n of_o a_o angel_n yet_o if_o not_o bring_v under_o this_o covenant_n of_o grace_n make_v with_o believer_n in_o christ_n they_o will_v fall_v and_o come_v to_o nothing_o whenas_o the_o weak_a believer_n that_o have_v to_o do_v with_o god_n through_o christ_n and_o not_o through_o the_o law_n such_o a_o one_o shall_v stand_v and_o not_o fall_v now_o the_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o law_n in_o christ_n will_v mighty_o help_v believer_n against_o these_o temptation_n and_o divers_a other_o i_o know_v nothing_o that_o do_v help_v believer_n more_o than_o this_o in_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o law_n in_o that_o sense_n as_o have_v be_v show_v before_o likewise_o from_o hence_o there_o be_v a_o great_a many_o lesson_n to_o be_v learn_v as_o the_o first_o lesson_n first_o from_o this_o deliverance_n we_o be_v teach_v to_o entertain_v the_o hear_n of_o the_o threat_n of_o the_o law_n i_o speak_v to_o believer_n though_o other_o may_v make_v a_o ill_a use_n in_o hear_v the_o deliverance_n from_o the_o law_n yet_o they_o must_v not_o miss_v their_o portion_n i_o say_v believer_n be_v hereby_o teach_v how_o to_o receive_v the_o threat_n of_o the_o law_n you_o hear_v dreadful_a threat_n of_o the_o law_n out_o of_o god_n word_n against_o sin_n now_o how_o shall_v thou_o entertain_v these_o threat_n the_o way_n be_v this_o when_o thou_o hear_v such_o threat_n know_v that_o god_n by_o this_o will_v have_v thou_o to_o consider_v what_o his_o mercy_n be_v in_o deliver_v of_o thou_o from_o what_o thou_o have_v deserve_v god_n will_v have_v thou_o to_o consider_v what_o the_o evil_a of_o sin_n be_v in_o itself_o and_o to_o consider_v what_o christ_n have_v do_v god_n will_v have_v thou_o to_o be_v drive_v to_o christ_n by_o this_o mean_n to_o see_v thy_o need_n of_o christ_n to_o bless_v his_o name_n for_o christ_n and_o to_o prize_n christ_n who_o have_v deliver_v thou_o from_o these_o threaten_n a_o believer_n when_o he_o hear_v the_o threat_n of_o the_o law_n be_v like_o a_o man_n that_o stand_v upon_o the_o shore_n when_o there_o be_v a_o grievous_a tempest_n and_o storm_n he_o see_v the_o wave_n rise_v high_a hear_v the_o wind_n blow_v and_o the_o wave_n roar_v but_o he_o stand_v safe_a upon_o the_o haven_n indeed_o he_o be_v in_o the_o storm_n and_o tempest_n but_o god_n have_v bring_v he_o to_o the_o haven_n and_o there_o he_o stand_v and_o bless_v god_n it_o may_v be_v he_o see_v other_o ship_n a_o great_a way_n off_o ready_a to_o be_v split_v upon_o the_o rock_n or_o swallow_v up_o but_o he_o be_v safe_a on_o the_o shore_n so_o it_o shall_v be_v with_o all_o believer_n when_o they_o hear_v the_o threaten_n of_o the_o law_n they_o shall_v entertain_v they_o with_o blessing_n
of_o the_o father_n and_o thorough_o plead_v their_o cause_n four_o in_o thy_o spiritual_a desertion_n thou_o must_v look_v up_o to_o christ_n to_o seek_v the_o fulfil_n of_o that_o promise_n of_o he_o that_o he_o make_v to_o his_o disciple_n to_o send_v to_o they_o the_o comforter_n when_o christ_n be_v to_o leave_v his_o disciple_n he_o say_v be_v of_o good_a cheer_n i_o will_v send_v the_o tell_v they_o he_o will_v send_v the_o comforter_n to_o they_o that_o be_v the_o holy_a ghost_n shall_v come_v so_o much_o the_o more_o full_o and_o he_o shall_v manifest_v i_o unto_o you_o now_o plead_v this_o promise_n of_o the_o lord_n christ_n in_o the_o time_n of_o spiritual_a desertion_n and_o say_v oh_o bless_a redeemer_n be_v thou_o careful_a of_o thy_o disciple_n that_o when_o thou_o be_v to_o leave_v they_o in_o regard_n of_o bodily_a presence_n that_o thou_o will_v send_v the_o holy_a ghost_n that_o shall_v come_v to_o testify_v of_o thou_o and_o reveal_v thou_o to_o they_o and_o bring_v thing_n to_o remembrance_n oh_o much_o more_o will_v thou_o have_v compassion_n of_o a_o poor_a soul_n from_o who_o thou_o be_v absent_a in_o a_o spiritual_a way_n it_o be_v a_o great_a affliction_n to_o want_v thou_o o_o bless_a redeemer_n in_o a_o spiritual_a way_n then_o to_o want_v thy_o bodily_a presence_n and_o therefore_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n more_o need_n that_o the_o comforter_n shall_v come_v in_o now_o to_o supply_v the_o want_n of_o spiritual_a presence_n then_o bodily_a presence_n five_o in_o the_o time_n of_o spiritual_a desertion_n if_o thou_o can_v find_v no_o evidence_n at_o all_o nothing_o at_o all_o to_o satisfy_v thy_o soul_n then_o go_v to_o christ_n in_o the_o very_a same_o way_n that_o thou_o wente_v to_o he_o at_o first_o better_a to_o do_v so_o then_o to_o lie_v grovel_v and_o sink_v under_o thy_o burden_n if_o thou_o think_v that_o yet_o thou_o have_v nothing_o that_o all_o be_v nothing_o all_o be_v lose_v and_o the_o like_a go_v again_o in_o the_o same_o way_n that_o thou_o wente_v at_o first_o unto_o christ_n thou_o be_v not_o in_o a_o worse_a condition_n than_o thou_o be_v then_o when_o thou_o be_v a_o enemy_n and_o thou_o find_v ease_v and_o rest_n in_o he_o at_o first_o now_o renew_v that_o work_n that_o there_o be_v in_o thy_o soul_n at_o the_o very_a first_o there_o be_v many_o people_n in_o the_o time_n of_o spiritual_a affliction_n and_o desertion_n they_o spend_v so_o much_o time_n in_o look_v after_o old_a evidence_n whereas_o the_o truth_n be_v they_o may_v get_v new_a one_o soon_o than_o the_o old_a one_o as_o sometime_o a_o man_n may_v spend_v a_o great_a deal_n more_o time_n in_o look_v after_o a_o old_a key_n of_o a_o box_n then_o in_o make_v a_o new_a one_o he_o may_v make_v a_o new_a key_n with_o a_o great_a deal_n less_o trouble_n and_o it_o will_v not_o be_v so_o much_o prejudice_n to_o he_o to_o have_v a_o new_a key_n make_v as_o to_o look_v the_o old_a one_o he_o may_v look_v up_o and_o down_o and_o spend_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o time_n that_o may_v be_v more_o worth_a then_o to_o make_v a_o new_a one_o so_o it_o be_v with_o the_o soul_n in_o time_n of_o trouble_n and_o under_o spiritual_a desertion_n it_o be_v look_v about_o for_o its_o old_a evidence_n and_o to_o such_o and_o such_o work_n of_o grace_n and_o can_v find_v they_o and_o be_v pore_v and_o can_v be_v at_o quiet_a till_o it_o can_v find_v those_o former_a sign_n and_o mark_n that_o he_o have_v before_o i_o say_v such_o and_o such_o may_v soon_o get_v new_a one_o then_o find_v the_o old_a one_o if_o a_o man_n have_v write_n perhaps_o he_o can_v find_v such_o a_o writing_n he_o may_v be_v at_o less_o charge_n to_o have_v new_a one_o write_v over_o again_o then_o to_o look_v the_o old_a one_o so_o thou_o want_v the_o evidence_n of_o thy_o grace_n and_o can_v not_o find_v they_o i_o say_v renew_v thy_o grace_n upon_o christ_n again_o and_o thou_o may_v get_v thy_o evidence_n new_o write_v over_o again_o and_o have_v it_o with_o less_o cost_n then_o to_o look_v after_o the_o old_a one_o six_o be_v sure_a in_o time_n of_o thy_o desertion_n to_o keep_v good_a thought_n of_o god_n though_o thou_o have_v no_o comfort_n in_o they_o for_o the_o present_a yet_o believe_v it_o there_o be_v comfort_n in_o christ_n and_o whatever_o become_v of_o thou_o acknowledge_v christ_n to_o be_v faithful_a christ_n be_v to_o be_v thy_o lord_n and_o thy_o king_n and_o let_v thy_o heart_n love_v he_o and_o strive_v at_o the_o least_o â—o_o do_v so_o it_o be_v true_a the_o sense_n of_o his_o love_n will_v inflame_v love_n again_o yet_o at_o that_o time_n when_o thou_o can_v not_o have_v the_o sense_n of_o his_o love_n yet_o resolve_v to_o love_v he_o and_o love_v his_o way_n you_o know_v christ_n when_o god_n seem_v to_o forsake_v he_o yet_o at_o that_o time_n when_o he_o be_v upon_o the_o cross_n when_o human_a nature_n can_v not_o but_o see_v he_o have_v need_n of_o god_n presence_n but_o then_o he_o cry_v out_o my_o god_n my_o god_n and_o so_o in_o psalm_n 88_o the_o example_n of_o heman_n o_o god_n of_o my_o salvation_n he_o speak_v yet_o still_o well_o of_o god_n and_o call_v god_n the_o god_n of_o his_o salvation·_n o_o god_n of_o my_o salvation_n he_o speak_v yet_o still_o well_o of_o god_n and_o call_v god_n the_o god_n of_o his_o salvation_n o_o god_n of_o my_o salvation_n still_o keep_v good_a thought_n of_o god_n and_o so_o the_o church_n in_o the_o canticle_n when_o christ_n have_v withdraw_v himself_o from_o she_o yet_o she_o will_v call_v he_o her_o belove_a and_o go_v up_o and_o down_o ask_v for_o her_o belove_a and_o where_o her_o belove_a be_v so_o let_v the_o soul_n in_o time_n of_o desertion_n keep_v good_a thought_n of_o god_n seven_o and_o last_o if_o thou_o can_v not_o have_v rest_n in_o christ_n resolve_v thou_o will_v never_o find_v rest_n in_o nothing_o else_o that_o thy_o heart_n shall_v be_v restless_a till_o thou_o have_v rest_n in_o christ_n perhaps_o in_o the_o time_n of_o desertion_n there_o come_v one_o to_o thou_o and_o say_v christ_n have_v forsake_v thou_o go_v and_o have_v comfort_n elsewhere_o look_v for_o it_o other_o where_o or_o may_v be_v the_o tempter_n will_v come_v to_o a_o poor_a desert_a soul_n as_o he_o do_v to_o christ_n in_o matth._n 4._o when_o christ_n be_v a_o hungry_a then_o come_v the_o tempter_n trouble_v the_o lord_n be_v withdraw_v from_o the_o soul_n and_o now_o come_v the_o tempter_n and_o say_v you_o see_v you_o can_v have_v comfort_n you_o have_v pray_v all_o this_o while_n and_o you_o can_v get_v comfort_n peace_n and_o rest_v now_o therefore_o seek_v for_o rest_n elsewhere_o oh_o take_v heed_n of_o this_o a_o desert_a soul_n shall_v abandon_v such_o temptation_n and_o resolve_v that_o it_o will_v be_v content_a to_o be_v in_o a_o restless_a condition_n to_o all_o eternity_n if_o it_o can_v have_v rest_n here_o as_o it_o be_v with_o those_o that_o do_v ill_a office_n if_o there_o be_v any_o breach_n between_o father_n and_o child_n or_o one_o friend_n and_o another_o they_o take_v the_o advantage_n of_o that_o and_o say_v do_v not_o you_o see_v your_o father_n regard_v you_o not_o though_o you_o be_v in_o such_o need_n he_o will_v not_o regard_v you_o nor_o help_v you_o come_v therefore_o and_o take_v my_o counsel_n i_o will_v show_v you_o how_o you_o shall_v live_v a_o better_a life_n and_o so_o when_o they_o will_v withdraw_v one_o friend_n from_o another_o those_o that_o will_v do_v ill_a office_n they_o go_v and_o take_v advantage_n of_o the_o breach_n so_o do_v the_o devil_n when_o the_o lord_n be_v withdraw_v from_o the_o soul_n and_o the_o soul_n be_v in_o a_o desert_a condition_n then_o come_v the_o devil_n to_o draw_v the_o soul_n to_o unlawful_a way_n he_o will_v be_v sure_a to_o take_v the_o advantage_n to_o do_v all_o ill_a
