himself_o to_o we_o and_o to_o the_o fashion_n of_o man_n that_o he_o desire_v nothing_o else_o but_o to_o win_v we_o by_o all_o gentleness_n unto_o his_o obedience_n and_o this_o be_v not_o for_o any_o profit_n that_o he_o receive_v thereby_o as_o in_o very_a deed_n what_o profit_n shall_v he_o receive_v when_o we_o shall_v have_v accomplish_v his_o whole_a law_n be_v this_o any_o way_n to_o his_o gain_n and_o advantage_n no._n but_o it_o make_v for_o our_o salvation_n you_o see_v then_o what_o the_o intent_n and_o purpose_n of_o god_n be_v &_o what_o we_o have_v to_o note_v upon_o this_o sentence_n so_o let_v we_o learn_v that_o when_o we_o shall_v have_v obey_v our_o god_n if_o he_o make_v we_o to_o prosper_v that_o this_o be_v not_o for_o that_o he_o owe_v we_o any_o thing_n and_o indebt_v unto_o we_o moreover_o when_o he_o chastise_v we_o and_o that_o we_o be_v subject_a to_o so_o many_o misery_n let_v we_o know_v that_o we_o do_v but_o gather_v in_o the_o fruit_n of_o our_o own_o seed_n because_o we_o have_v lead_v a_o evil_a life_n our_o lord_n must_v needs_o show_v some_o sign_n and_o take_v of_o his_o anger_n that_o it_o may_v be_v know_v he_o be_v judge_n of_o the_o world_n but_o he_o have_v also_o as_o well_o a_o regard_n unto_o our_o profit_n that_o be_v that_o we_o may_v be_v sorry_a for_o our_o fault_n and_o be_v in_o displeasure_n with_o ourselves_o for_o they_o and_o that_o we_o shall_v have_v our_o recourse_n unto_o he_o in_o true_a and_o unfeigned_a repentance_n loe_o how_o god_o when_o he_o show_v his_o anger_n towards_o we_o cease_v not_o to_o declare_v his_o love_n for_o he_o seek_v to_o win_v we_o unto_o himself_o he_o see_v that_o we_o be_v bring_v asleep_a in_o our_o sin_n and_o he_o awake_v we_o know_v that_o it_o be_v expedient_a remember_v no_o more_o what_o god_n have_v say_v unto_o we_o moreover_o because_o he_o seek_v no_o other_o thing_n than_o to_o win_v we_o unto_o himself_o he_o must_v root_v out_o of_o we_o those_o when_o you_o shall_v hold_v yourselves_o in_o this_o doctrine_n you_o can_v not_o err_v this_o be_v the_o way_n of_o salvation_n therefore_o keep_v yourselves_o in_o it_o now_o for_o all_o this_o again_o mention_v make_v of_o commandment_n statute_n and_o ordinance_n that_o we_o may_v not_o think_v that_o god_n will_v instruct_v we_o by_o half_n there_o be_v then_o in_o his_o law_n comprise_v a_o full_a perfection_n of_o all_o wisdom_n so_o that_o there_o rest_v nothing_o but_o that_o we_o yield_v obedience_n thereunto_o that_o we_o be_v not_o so_o curious_a as_o to_o desire_v more_o that_o man_n shall_v hear_v it_o to_o know_v what_o it_o contain_v but_o that_o by_o it_o we_o shall_v also_o be_v reform_v and_o that_o god_n may_v prove_v herein_o what_o subjection_n we_o yield_v unto_o he_o in_o few_o word_n we_o see_v that_o the_o doctrine_n of_o god_n consist_v in_o practice_n and_o that_o we_o must_v by_o our_o do_n show_v that_o we_o have_v not_o in_o vain_a bene_fw-la that_o god_n will_v not_o that_o the_o doctrine_n which_o be_v preach_v unto_o we_o in_o his_o name_n and_o authority_n shall_v fall_v to_o the_o ground_n but_o that_o we_o must_v receive_v it_o with_o all_o diligence_n and_o apply_v our_o whole_a study_n therein_o for_o what_o be_v the_o cause_n that_o we_o profit_v so_o evil_a in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n but_o that_o we_o be_v overmuch_o busy_v in_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n and_o if_o we_o come_v to_o the_o sermon_n if_o we_o read_v the_o holy_a scripture_n it_o be_v but_o for_o fashion_n and_o manner_n sake_n we_o seek_v not_o to_o perform_v our_o duty_n as_o we_o ought_v in_o observe_v that_o which_o be_v teach_v we_o but_o let_v we_o advise_v ourselves_o to_o be_v better_a and_o more_o diligent_a scholar_n while_o language_n but_o show_v himself_o in_o as_o plain_a and_o familiar_a manner_n as_o may_v be_v desire_v see_v then_o it_o be_v so_o that_o god_n come_v down_o unto_o we_o in_o such_o sort_n as_o to_o make_v a_o plain_a and_o familiar_a declaration_n of_o his_o will_n what_o excuse_n shall_v we_o have_v to_o allege_v if_o his_o word_n be_v lose_v in_o we_o or_o if_o it_o slip_v from_o we_o or_o if_o we_o keep_v it_o not_o to_o make_v our_o profit_n thereof_o it_o be_v true_a that_o for_o asmuch_o as_o we_o be_v over_o dull_a and_o ignorant_a we_o shall_v always_o find_v much_o obscurity_n in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n that_o the_o langauge_fw-mi of_o the_o lord_n be_v to_o high_a and_o profound_a for_o we_o but_o to_o who_o shall_v the_o fault_n thereof_o be_v impute_v let_v we_o note_v therefore_o that_o all_o they_o which_o complain_v that_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v hard_a and_o obscure_a as_o if_o it_o be_v hide_v under_o a_o unknown_a tongue_n be_v here_o reprove_v of_o a_o manifest_a lie_n yea_o that_o they_o do_v god_n great_a injury_n yea_o blaspheme_v he_o for_o that_o they_o despiteful_o dissemble_v &_o deny_v the_o bounty_n &_o goodness_n which_o moses_n protest_v be_v show_v the_o people_n at_o the_o publish_n of_o the_o law_n for_o it_o be_v there_o say_v that_o god_n speak_v to_o the_o ear_n of_o the_o people_n by_o the_o mouth_n of_o moses_n so_o that_o the_o doctrine_n which_o he_o deliver_v aught_o to_o have_v be_v thorough_o know_v of_o they_o and_o at_o this_o day_n we_o have_v less_o occasion_n to_o use_v this_o shift_n to_o allege_v that_o we_o understand_v nothing_o of_o that_o which_o be_v contain_v to_o holy_a scripture_n for_o god_o speak_v so_o near_o and_o familiar_o unto_o we_o that_o we_o need_v but_o to_o have_v our_o ear_n cleanse_v and_o prepare_v to_o hear_v he_o and_o let_v we_o note_v that_o there_o remain_v nothing_o but_o that_o we_o be_v attentive_a &_o diligent_a to_o profit_v in_o the_o doctrine_n of_o salvation_n but_o withal_o let_v we_o call_v to_o mind_n that_o we_o have_v above_o touch_v namely_o that_o this_o doctrine_n must_v be_v keep_v &_o follow_v thorough_o for_o if_o we_o do_v not_o allow_v the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o yield_v our_o consent_n that_o it_o be_v good_a and_o true_a and_o holy_a god_n be_v much_o behold_v unto_o we_o what_o must_v we_o do_v then_o see_v god_n will_v make_v a_o trial_n whether_o he_o shall_v be_v master_n over_o we_o or_o no._n now_o then_o if_o the_o word_n of_o god_n rule_v our_o life_n that_o be_v if_o we_o not_o only_o inquire_v after_o that_o which_o he_o tell_v we_o but_o forsake_v our_o naughty_a lust_n and_o desire_n and_o endeavour_n only_o to_o please_v he_o and_o to_o be_v govern_v by_o he_o and_o his_o righteousness_n when_o we_o come_v to_o this_o then_o see_v we_o one_o good_a proof_n that_o he_o have_v such_o dominion_n and_o superiority_n over_o we_o as_o he_o deserve_v but_o until_o we_o have_v profit_v so_o much_o that_o we_o be_v come_v hither_o let_v we_o not_o think_v that_o we_o have_v profit_v any_o thing_n at_o all_o in_o the_o doctrine_n which_o have_v be_v teach_v we_o let_v this_o word_n therefore_o of_o do_v be_v often_o call_v to_o mind_n and_o imprint_v in_o memory_n of_o they_o which_o hear_v the_o word_n of_o god_n as_o how_o behold_v god_n do_v we_o this_o courtesy_n in_o vouchsafe_v to_o teach_v we_o and_o why_o be_v that_o be_v it_o to_o this_o end_n that_o we_o shall_v only_o lend_v our_o ear_n to_o say_v in_o the_o end_n yea_o well_o say_v that_o be_v good_a nay_o but_o to_o the_o end_n our_o life_n shall_v be_v reform_v and_o because_o it_o be_v a_o true_a and_o certain_a rule_n that_o we_o shall_v not_o err_v as_o we_o have_v do_v and_o as_o many_o poor_a ignorant_a wretch_n do_v which_o be_v stray_v from_o the_o right_a way_n and_o be_v not_o instruct_v as_o we_o be_v unto_o who_o this_o doctrine_n ought_v to_o serve_v for_o mortification_n and_o newness_n of_o life_n that_o god_n may_v bear_v rule_n over_o we_o and_o that_o we_o be_v subject_a to_o he_o thus_o we_o see_v in_o effect_n what_o moses_n mean_v when_o he_o protest_v unto_o the_o people_n in_o this_o preface_n that_o he_o set_v before_o they_o the_o law_n not_o that_o they_o shall_v hear_v it_o and_o so_o but_o have_v their_o ear_n beat_v there_o with_o but_o that_o they_o shall_v receive_v it_o and_o keep_v it_o now_o for_o the_o better_a confirmation_n of_o this_o he_o allege_v that_o god_n have_v make_v his_o covenant_n with_o that_o people_n on_o the_o mount_n horeb_n the_o better_a to_o persuade_v they_o to_o fear_n god_n and_o to_o continue_v in_o his_o obedience_n for_o if_o god_n will_v only_o require_v of_o we_o that_o which_o be_v his_o due_n yet_o be_v we_o sufficient_o bind_v this_o point_n show_v that_o although_o we_o have_v be_v careless_a herein_o he_o will_v yet_o have_v such_o a_o zeal_n as_o behove_v he_o to_o maintain_v his_o honour_n and_o
it_o be_v certain_a when_o he_o punish_v they_o this_o shall_v not_o be_v without_o good_a cause_n but_o we_o shall_v always_o know_v that_o he_o proceed_v herein_o in_o all_o equity_n &_o justice_n corrupt_v and_o whether_o i_o love_v god_n with_o all_o my_o heart_n when_o one_o part_n of_o my_o understanding_n be_v bend_v against_o he_o there_o be_v no_o question_n of_o the_o heart_n but_o of_o before_o their_o eye_n that_o they_o may_v not_o know_v how_o close_o they_o deceive_v themselves_o now_o when_o man_n speak_v thus_o yet_o this_o will_v not_o serve_v they_o to_o escape_v the_o our_o own_o corruption_n and_o wickedness_n for_o it_o be_v most_o certain_a and_o true_a that_o the_o verity_n &_o truth_n of_o god_n in_o itself_o and_o in_o his_o own_o nature_n be_v easy_a enough_o and_o plain_a to_o be_v understand_v let_v we_o not_o then_o allege_v that_o it_o be_v to_o dark_a and_o obscure_a but_o how_o must_v we_o behave_v ourselves_o to_o profit_n thereby_o if_o accompany_v of_o the_o angel_n of_o heaven_n with_o the_o soul_n of_o the_o holy_a patriarch_n and_o of_o the_o father_n which_o live_v in_o the_o hope_n of_o eternal_a life_n although_o they_o have_v yet_o nothing_o but_o obscure_a shadow_n that_o god_n now_o couple_v &_o join_v we_o with_o they_o which_o in_o old_a time_n have_v wait_v for_o the_o come_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n see_v it_o be_v so_o we_o must_v not_o draw_v back_o but_o every_o one_o must_v set_v himself_o forward_o to_o come_v with_o a_o bold_a courage_n to_o hear_v our_o god_o forasmuch_o as_o he_o speak_v so_o gentle_o and_o love_o unto_o we_o and_o use_v so_o fatherly_a a_o speech_n as_o which_o serve_v not_o to_o fear_v and_o amaze_v his_o child_n but_o sweet_o to_o entice_v they_o and_o to_o win_v their_o heart_n unto_o he_o this_o difference_n therefore_o be_v worthy_a to_o be_v note_v that_o in_o comparison_n of_o the_o law_n the_o gospel_n may_v seem_v sweet_a and_o amiable_a unto_o we_o but_o for_o all_o this_o we_o must_v return_v to_o this_o general_a principle_n namely_o that_o it_o be_v much_o better_a that_o the_o word_n of_o god_o be_v preach_v unto_o we_o by_o the_o mouth_n of_o man_n than_o if_o god_o himself_o shall_v thunder_v from_o heaven_n and_o why_o for_o hear_v we_o only_o this_o natural_a thunder_n and_o behold_v we_o be_v take_v with_o a_o great_a astonishment_n and_o yet_o here_o be_v nothing_o express_v god_n only_o make_v a_o noise_n with_o a_o confuse_a and_o unperfect_a sound_n what_o shall_v be_v then_o when_o he_o shall_v speak_v unto_o we_o and_o when_o he_o shall_v show_v we_o his_o glory_n we_o can_v not_o look_v on_o the_o sun_n which_o his_o a_o corruptible_a creature_n and_o how_o then_o shall_v we_o be_v able_a to_o behold_v the_o majesty_n of_o god_o if_o it_o be_v full_o show_v we_o and_o in_o his_o perfection_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v say_v that_o a_o mortal_a creature_n can_v not_o see_v god_o and_o live_v can_v not_o behold_v his_o glory_n and_o not_o be_v utter_o confound_v i_o grant_v that_o god_o appear_v unto_o moses_n and_o that_o not_o in_o such_o sort_n only_o as_o to_o other_o of_o the_o prophet_n as_o it_o be_v say_v in_o the_o book_n of_o number_n that_o he_o give_v he_o this_o special_a privilege_n 8._o to_o be_v see_v of_o he_o face_n to_o face_n even_o plain_o as_o of_o his_o friend_n that_o he_o appear_v not_o unto_o he_o either_o by_o dream_n or_o by_o vision_n only_o but_o after_o such_o a_o especial_a manner_n that_o moses_n seem_v to_o be_v exempt_v from_o the_o company_n of_o man_n to_o be_v make_v more_o familiar_a unto_o god_n but_o what_o ever_o be_v say_v hereof_o yet_o god_n manifest_v himself_o unto_o he_o in_o portion_n and_o measure_n for_o if_o he_o have_v show_v he_o his_o infinite_a be_v moses_n must_v have_v needs_o what_o grace_n soever_o he_o have_v receive_v of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n be_v overwhelm_v therewith_o and_o utter_o confound_v yea_o when_o at_o one_o time_n be_v yet_o among_o the_o live_n god_o show_v he_o his_o glory_n in_o more_o ample_a and_o plain_a manner_n than_o ever_o he_o have_v do_v yet_o see_v he_o he_o not_o but_o as_o it_o full_a well_o how_o impudent_a and_o past_a shame_n they_o be_v when_o they_o vaunt_v so_o much_o of_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n we_o see_v then_o a_o place_n which_o be_v well_o worthy_a to_o be_v observe_v wherein_o moses_n first_o declare_v that_o to_o serve_v god_n aright_o it_o behove_v that_o our_o heart_n be_v whole_o give_v over_o unto_o he_o that_o it_o suffice_v not_o that_o in_o experience_n that_o we_o fear_v god_n by_o order_v our_o whole_a life_n according_a unto_o his_o will._n now_o hereby_o we_o may_v well_o gather_v that_o god_n disallow_v allthing_n which_o man_n attempt_v beside_o his_o word_n as_o the_o papist_n be_v continual_a man_n and_o religious_a as_o they_o say_v in_o the_o service_n of_o god_n but_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n what_o do_v they_o they_o travel_v much_o and_o be_v never_o the_o near_o for_o they_o profit_v nothing_o because_o in_o the_o whole_a worship_n of_o god_n which_o they_o pretend_v there_o be_v nothing_o but_o the_o
