whereat_o we_o do_v aim_n and_o which_o we_o labour_v especial_o to_o search_v after_o and_o to_o find_v out_o in_o this_o trial_n and_o examination_n for_o even_o in_o this_o point_n also_o there_o be_v oftentimes_o error_n find_v by_o reason_n whereof_o among_o man_n there_o arise_v no_o small_a inconvenience_n the_o thing_n therefore_o that_o herein_o we_o be_v to_o have_v a_o special_a eye_n unto_o be_v not_o the_o great_a measure_n and_o quantity_n but_o rather_o the_o truth_n of_o repentance_n for_o although_o it_o be_v never_o so_o slender_a and_o weak_a in_o our_o conceit_n yet_o if_o the_o spirit_n sometime_o may_v appear_v unto_o we_o to_o be_v as_o you_o will_v say_v but_o very_o weak_a in_o work_v and_o faith_n also_o may_v seem_v to_o be_v faint_a and_o feeble_a in_o show_v forth_o the_o fruit_n of_o true_a repentance_n in_o such_o abundant_a and_o plentiful_a manner_n as_o thou_o haply_o do_v dream_v of_o yet_o do_v not_o this_o let_v any_o thing_n at_o all_o but_o that_o both_o thy_o faith_n and_o thy_o repentance_n may_v be_v true_a and_o therefore_o such_o whereupon_o thou_o may_v settle_v and_o ground_n thyself_o and_o whereby_o thou_o may_v assure_v thyself_o that_o thou_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n and_o if_o his_o child_n then_o sure_o free_v from_o condemnation_n and_o make_v a_o heir_n even_o a_o coheyre_n with_o christ_n our_o head_n of_o that_o do_v but_o sinoke_n yet_o herein_o be_v there_o no_o cause_n of_o discomfort_n first_o for_o that_o as_o faith_n so_o likewise_o true_a repentance_n be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n who_o be_v not_o to_o be_v prescribe_v and_o appoint_v in_o what_o mcasure_n he_o shall_v give_v the_o same_o to_o every_o one_o and_o second_o for_o that_o it_o please_v he_o to_o be_v so_o gracious_a and_o nature_n subject_a to_o all_o kind_n of_o infirmity_n as_o well_o as_o other_o during_o the_o time_n of_o thy_o continuance_n in_o this_o corrupt_a tabernacle_n do_v not_o deceive_v thyself_o but_o be_v thou_o assure_v that_o thy_o flesh_n will_v never_o give_v over_o but_o still_o will_v be_v find_v to_o be_v a_o flesh_n that_o be_v a_o rebellious_a and_o a_o grievous_a enemy_n continual_o rebel_a contend_v and_o strive_v against_o the_o spirit_n until_o such_o time_n as_o it_o shall_v by_o god_n appointment_n either_o receive_v the_o stroke_n of_o death_n to_o subdue_v it_o and_o put_v a_o end_n to_o the_o rebellion_n thereof_o or_o that_o wonderful_a and_o sudden_a change_n be_v make_v at_o the_o last_o day_n 15.53_o 1._o cor._n 15.53_o when_o this_o corruptible_a shall_v put_v christ_n jesus_n only_o except_v yet_o as_o those_o faithful_a servant_n can_v never_o find_v salvation_n in_o their_o own_o deed_n but_o do_v clean_o forsake_v themselves_o and_o cleave_v fast_o to_o the_o grace_n and_o mercy_n of_o god_n so_o thou_o also_o although_o thou_o seek_v it_o shall_v never_o find_v salvation_n in_o thy_o own_o work_n &_o merit_v thereof_o but_o must_v be_v content_a with_o the_o godly_a to_o renounce_v thyself_o and_o lean_v fast_o to_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n in_o who_o sure_o thou_o must_v seek_v it_o in_o seek_v thou_o shall_v find_v it_o and_o find_v thou_o shall_v doubtless_o possess_v it_o quest_n whereunto_o then_o will_v thou_o say_v do_v serve_v the_o fruit_n of_o repentance_n answ_n no_o doubt_n to_o very_o good_a and_o comfortable_a it_o deserve_v or_o as_o the_o case_n and_o matter_n in_o hand_n require_v yet_o i_o trust_v so_o that_o every_o man_n may_v have_v thereby_o a_o taste_n of_o his_o malicious_a mind_n so_o crafty_o go_v about_o to_o circumvent_v they_o and_o so_o to_o compass_v and_o effect_v their_o destruction_n yet_o will_v not_o this_o our_o mortal_a enemy_n give_v over_o but_o with_o this_o new_a and_o fresh_a encounter_n begin_v again_o to_o make_v his_o assault_n have_v not_o god_n say_v he_o promise_v unto_o his_o servant_n prosperity_n satan_n a_o assault_n of_o satan_n peace_n &_o good_a and_o happy_a success_n and_o have_v he_o not_o make_v his_o covenant_n with_o they_o to_o deliver_v and_o save_v they_o out_o of_o these_o extremity_n answ_n answ_n no_o doubt_n he_o have_v thus_o promise_v and_o he_o have_v thus_o covenant_v indeed_o but_o yet_o his_o promise_n and_o covenant_n be_v not_o so_o make_v as_o that_o affliction_n shall_v not_o touch_v the_o servant_n of_o god_n at_o all_o but_o rather_o in_o this_o sense_n that_o they_o shall_v not_o hurt_v or_o overcome_v they_o for_o he_o will_v acquit_v and_o free_v his_o faithful_a servant_n from_o that_o tyrannous_a of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n but_o forsomuch_o as_o the_o same_o have_v be_v touch_v before_o i_o will_v not_o stay_v hereupon_o the_o second_o have_v a_o necessity_n join_v thereunto_o that_o of_o the_o servant_n of_o christ_n shall_v suffer_v for_o well-doing_n then_o for_o evil_a and_o if_o god_n suffer_v they_o to_o be_v evil_o entreat_v and_o persecute_v of_o the_o world_n and_o that_o even_o then_o when_o they_o do_v well_o how_o much_o more_o shall_v he_o do_v it_o when_o they_o shall_v sin_v and_o offend_v against_o he_o hereunto_o thou_o will_v haply_o answer_v that_o this_o be_v their_o grief_n weigh_v and_o their_o misery_n lay_v together_o in_o the_o balance_n it_o will_v be_v heavy_a than_o the_o sand_n of_o the_o sea_n be_v i_o able_a to_o conceive_v they_o as_o other_o sometime_o feel_v they_o and_o to_o think_v they_o as_o other_o often_o find_v they_o in_o themselves_o yet_o can_v i_o never_o sufficient_o describe_v they_o well_o i_o may_v in_o some_o sort_n touch_v they_o but_o they_o only_o can_v sound_v the_o depth_n and_o reach_v the_o bottom_n of_o these_o extremity_n which_o have_v sometime_o taste_v and_o in_o some_o measure_n feel_v the_o bitterness_n of_o this_o gall_n and_o wormwood_n notwithstanding_o as_o by_o the_o outward_a appearance_n of_o the_o wound_n the_o inward_a pain_n may_v be_v conjecture_v and_o by_o the_o external_a struggle_n we_o may_v guess_v the_o internal_a conflict_n effect_n the_o greatness_n of_o these_o extremity_n discern_v in_o part_n by_o the_o effect_n so_o likewise_o by_o the_o effect_n that_o come_v from_o the_o sorrow_n of_o sin_n appear_v outward_o in_o the_o body_n we_o may_v in_o some_o sort_n learn_v how_o great_a that_o grief_n and_o anguish_n be_v that_o possess_v the_o heart_n wretched_a man_n that_o i_o be_o 7.24_o rom._n 7.24_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o this_o body_n of_o sin_n and_o death_n unto_o this_o sight_n of_o sin_n be_v add_v the_o weakness_n faith_n 2._o the_o second_o cause_n be_v the_o weakness_n or_o want_n of_o faith_n and_o many_o time_n the_o want_n of_o faith_n for_o when_o they_o see_v and_o remember_v the_o sweet_a and_o comfortable_a be_v pardon_v i_o be_o but_o a_o reprobate_n and_o a_o damn_a castaway_n so_o that_o this_o motion_n be_v not_o only_o find_v in_o such_o as_o have_v a_o utter_a defect_n and_o want_n of_o faith_n but_o also_o oftentimes_o in_o those_o which_o have_v a_o faith_n who_o although_o as_o i_o have_v say_v they_o have_v a_o faith_n in_o deed_n yet_o it_o be_v but_o a_o weak_a and_o a_o faint_a faith_n and_o such_o a_o one_o as_o for_o infirmity_n be_v not_o able_a to_o move_v and_o stir_v itself_o for_o as_o the_o man_n that_o be_v in_o a_o swoon_n swoon_n such_o who_o faith_n be_v weak_a compare_v to_o a_o man_n in_o a_o swoon_n or_o he_o who_o part_n be_v benumb_v with_o some_o extreme_a cold_a or_o sudden_a stroke_n though_o there_o be_v a_o life_n still_o remain_v in_o they_o yet_o such_o be_v their_o infirmity_n that_o they_o seem_v as_o dead_a and_o be_v unable_a to_o perform_v the_o function_n that_o belong_v unto_o a_o live_a body_n even_o so_o this_o faith_n though_o in_o truth_n it_o be_v a_o faith_n and_o have_v a_o life_n in_o it_o yet_o it_o be_v so_o benumb_a with_o the_o chill_a cold_a of_o sin_n and_o astonish_v with_o the_o stroke_n of_o our_o natural_a imperfection_n that_o it_o seem_v to_o be_v dead_a and_o utter_o void_a of_o vital_a motion_n so_o that_o sin_n unto_o this_o weak_a and_o waver_a soul_n be_v even_o as_o meat_n be_v oftentimes_o to_o he_o that_o surfete_v he_o eat_v it_o with_o delight_n and_o take_v pleasure_n in_o it_o yet_o when_o his_o stomach_n come_v to_o digest_v and_o work_v upon_o it_o the_o strength_n of_o nature_n be_v not_o able_a to_o overcome_v the_o abundance_n of_o unconcoct_v humour_n the_o whole_a body_n be_v sick_a and_o weaken_a in_o every_o part_n and_o faculty_n so_o the_o soul_n that_o be_v glut_v and_o
to_o walk_v in_o righteousness_n but_o now_o lest_o that_o in_o give_v sentence_n and_o judgement_n upon_o this_o sorrow_n we_o shall_v be_v deceive_v it_o be_v here_o again_o to_o be_v call_v to_o mind_n which_o have_v before_o be_v somewhat_o touch_v viz._n that_o sorow_v for_o sin_n be_v prove_v to_o be_v of_o two_o sort_n one_o proper_a to_o the_o elect_a of_o god_n and_o the_o other_o to_o the_o reprobate_n for_o it_o be_v manifest_a that_o even_o these_o i_o mean_v such_o as_o have_v be_v evident_o prove_v reprobate_n have_v be_v find_v to_o have_v have_v a_o certain_a sorrow_n sigh_v and_o mourn_v in_o they_o as_o do_v appear_v by_o the_o example_n of_o cain_n saul_n ahab_n and_o judas_n and_o yet_o nothing_o partaker_n but_o clean_o void_a of_o that_o true_a repentance_n which_o have_v be_v find_v in_o the_o godly_a sort_n and_o choose_a people_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o this_o sorrow_n of_o such_o wicked_a one_o be_v the_o same_o which_o before_o be_v mention_v to_o have_v true_a repentance_n and_o which_o i_o account_v as_o the_o forerunner_n of_o repentance_n be_v only_o incident_a and_o do_v proper_o appertain_v to_o the_o elect_a and_o choose_a of_o the_o lord_n and_o be_v find_v to_o have_v a_o far_o further_a step_n than_o have_v the_o former_a and_o therefore_o lest_o we_o deceive_v ourselves_o herein_o as_o hypocrite_n often_o do_v let_v we_o in_o a_o word_n or_o two_o as_o brief_o as_o we_o may_v observe_v the_o difference_n betwixt_o these_o two_o kind_n of_o sorrow_n this_o counterfeit_a and_o hypocritical_a sorrow_n sorrow_n counterf_n it_o and_o hypocritical_a sorrow_n which_o as_o i_o say_v be_v find_v in_o hypocrite_n arise_v from_o the_o law_n and_o that_o only_a in_o consideration_n of_o the_o heavy_a and_o terrible_a judgement_n in_o the_o same_o denounce_v against_o the_o transgressor_n thereof_o and_o hereupon_o it_o be_v that_o they_o mourn_v and_o sigh_v only_o for_o that_o they_o see_v and_o perceive_v themselves_o by_o reason_n of_o their_o great_a sin_n and_o wiekedness_n by_o force_n and_o by_o the_o sentence_n of_o the_o law_n to_o be_v bring_v into_o a_o dangerous_a or_o a_o damnable_a estate_n but_o as_o for_o the_o sin_n itself_o which_o by_o they_o be_v commit_v day_n by_o day_n although_o it_o be_v in_o the_o proper_a nature_n thereof_o never_o so_o filthy_a or_o abominable_a yet_o do_v they_o not_o mourn_v for_o it_o but_o remain_v still_o in_o they_o with_o as_o great_a love_n and_o take_v as_o great_a pleasure_n therein_o and_o have_v as_o great_a a_o desire_n to_o commit_v the_o same_o still_o as_o ever_o they_o have_v at_o any_o time_n before_o so_o small_a a_o alteration_n be_v find_v to_o follow_v in_o they_o upon_o this_o their_o sorrow_n and_o so_o far_o off_o be_v they_o from_o have_v even_o this_o first_o mark_n of_o true_a repentance_n but_o it_o be_v far_o otherwise_o with_o the_o man_n regenerate_v regenerate_v difference_n betwixt_o the_o sorrow_n of_o the_o unregenerate_a and_o regenerate_v for_o although_o his_o sorrow_n begin_v in_o deed_n in_o the_o law_n for_o that_o thereby_o he_o come_v to_o the_o knowledge_n first_o of_o his_o sin_n and_o second_o of_o the_o heavy_a judgement_n by_o the_o law_n due_a unto_o the_o same_o yet_o do_v not_o his_o sorrow_n there_o stay_v and_o make_v a_o end_n but_o end_v indeed_o in_o the_o gospel_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v that_o he_o be_v find_v to_o be_v sad_a &_o heavy_a not_o only_o in_o respect_n or_o regard_n of_o the_o danger_n whereinto_o by_o sin_n he_o be_v bring_v but_o also_o in_o humble_a confession_n and_o acknowledgement_n of_o his_o fault_n and_o humble_a submission_n to_o his_o father_n order_n and_o a_o full_a assurance_n that_o he_o shall_v find_v favour_n at_o his_o father_n hand_n and_o all_o these_o as_o it_o be_v bedew_v with_o the_o tear_n of_o his_o sorrowful_a heart_n that_o he_o have_v so_o grievous_o offend_v so_o kind_a and_o so_o love_v a_o father_n and_o in_o all_o these_o point_n do_v appear_v unto_o we_o the_o comfortable_a promise_n and_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n so_o that_o unto_o this_o second_o mourning_n begin_v thus_o upon_o the_o due_a consideration_n of_o the_o lewdness_n of_o his_o life_n on_o the_o one_o part_n and_o the_o goodness_n of_o the_o person_n against_o who_o he_o have_v offend_v on_o the_o other_o part_n it_o appear_v that_o there_o be_v annex_v a_o assure_a hope_n to_o obtain_v remission_n of_o his_o fault_n at_o his_o father_n hand_n a_o receive_n again_o into_o favour_n and_o a_o comfort_n and_o help_v unto_o he_o in_o these_o his_o misery_n otherwise_o sure_o he_o will_v never_o thus_o have_v reason_v with_o himself_o as_o he_o do_v bring_v his_o reason_n from_o the_o good_a estate_n of_o his_o father_n servant_n to_o confirm_v in_o himself_o the_o hope_n of_o his_o own_o neither_o will_v he_o have_v be_v so_o resolute_a to_o have_v return_v to_o his_o father_n house_n and_o in_o such_o manner_n to_o have_v humble_v himself_o and_o confess_v his_o fault_n have_v there_o not_o be_v in_o he_o a_o great_a confidence_n that_o he_o shall_v be_v again_o receive_v i_o may_v hereunto_o add_v the_o example_n of_o mary_n magdalen_n who_o no_o doubt_n mourn_v and_o yet_o have_v a_o hope_n of_o remission_n and_o therewithal_o a_o joy_n and_o therefore_o be_v bold_a to_o come_v unto_o christ_n but_o for_o brevity_n cause_n i_o will_v not_o stand_v hereupon_o here_o i_o will_v not_o have_v the_o sorrowful_a soul_n to_o be_v over-captious_a and_o to_o take_v all_o thing_n in_o the_o worst_a part_n for_o when_o i_o say_v that_o there_o be_v a_o joy_n a_o peace_n and_o a_o faith_n attend_v upon_o this_o godly_a sorrow_n i_o will_v not_o have_v he_o therefore_o think_v that_o it_o be_v always_o feel_v in_o manifest_a and_o open_a motion_n and_o therefore_o because_o he_o find_v it_o not_o so_o cheerful_a in_o himself_o that_o therefore_o his_o sorrow_n be_v but_o hypocritical_a and_o counterfeit_a for_o you_o must_v understand_v that_o this_o joy_n peace_n and_o faith_n as_o it_o oftentimes_o fall_v out_o be_v not_o at_o the_o first_o easy_o perceive_v and_o that_o because_o the_o eye_n of_o our_o mind_n be_v often_o so_o dim_v and_o dazzle_v with_o the_o excess_n of_o sorrow_n and_o mourning_n that_o we_o can_v see_v &_o perceive_v they_o as_o otherwise_o we_o may_v and_o yet_o for_o all_o this_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o same_o be_v still_o abide_v &_o remain_v in_o we_o as_o may_v very_o well_o be_v gather_v even_o by_o those_o weak_a and_o feeble_a motion_n which_o proceed_v therefrom_o feeble_n i_o say_v in_o our_o sight_n and_o judgement_n but_o otherwise_o in_o themselves_o strong_a and_o mighty_a this_o be_v prove_v unto_o we_o by_o the_o example_n of_o peter_n who_o no_o doubt_n by_o the_o inward_a testimony_n of_o the_o spirit_n do_v indeed_o know_v assure_o that_o his_o sin_n commit_v in_o deny_v his_o master_n shall_v be_v remit_v and_o forgive_v he_o and_o yet_o he_o be_v say_v to_o have_v sorrow_v very_o great_o 26._o math._n 26._o for_o he_o depart_v from_o among_o the_o high_a priest_n servant_n and_o to_o weep_v bitter_o but_o it_o be_v more_o plain_o prove_v in_o david_n who_o have_v receive_v before_o a_o warrant_n from_o god_n himself_o by_o the_o mouth_n of_o the_o prophet_n nathan_n that_o his_o sin_n be_v pardon_v yet_o he_o afterward_o grow_v to_o such_o excessive_a mourning_n in_o regard_n of_o his_o sin_n as_o appear_v 51._o psal_n 51._o so_o that_o it_o seem_v he_o have_v almost_o forget_v this_o promise_n of_o forgiveness_n and_o therefore_o he_o very_o earnest_o cry_v out_o and_o pray_v unto_o god_n that_o he_o will_v wash_v away_o his_o sin_n not_o that_o dduid_n want_v faith_n or_o be_v utter_o in_o this_o his_o sorrow_n deprive_v of_o that_o peace_n and_o joy_n i_o speak_v of_o but_o because_o his_o mourning_n be_v so_o excessive_a and_o the_o evidence_n of_o faith_n for_o the_o time_n be_v so_o feeble_a in_o regard_n of_o his_o sin_n whereupon_o he_o continual_o fix_v his_o eye_n that_o he_o feel_v not_o these_o thing_n in_o such_o measure_n and_o perfection_n as_o he_o desire_v or_o rather_o seem_v to_o feel_v they_o not_o at_o all_o and_o therefore_o he_o desire_v god_n that_o he_o will_v restore_v the_o spirit_n of_o comfort_n as_o though_o all_o comfort_n have_v forsake_v he_o and_o as_o though_o he_o have_v feel_v no_o joy_n and_o peace_n in_o regard_n of_o pardon_n and_o remission_n and_o yet_o no_o doubt_n all_o this_o while_n he_o have_v a_o faith_n he_o have_v a_o joy_n include_v in_o he_o as_o it_o appear_v after_o in_o the_o same_o psalm_n for_o he_o can_v scarce_o utter_v five_o verse_n more_o but_o it_o burst_v out_o in_o open_a confession_n of_o his_o mouth_n a_o contrite_a and_o a_o break_a heart_n thou_o will_v not_o despise_v as_o who_o will_v say_v i_o be_o break_v sad_a and_o sorrowful_a but_o yet_o i_o have_v a_o steadfast_a hope_n and_o a_o full_a assurance_n of_o thy_o favour_n for_o such_o break_a and_o mourn_a heart_n thou_o will_v not_o despise_v and_o cast_v away_o but_o will_v be_v gracious_a and_o good_a unto_o they_o yea_o and_o though_o he_o seem_v not_o to_o feel_v it_o before_o yet_o he_o be_v not_o able_a now_o to_o conceal_v it_o any_o long_o no_o not_o when_o he_o be_v in_o the_o great_a combat_n and_o struggle_v and_o contend_v with_o his_o sin_n for_o it_o plain_o appear_v that_o he_o have_v access_n to_o god_n and_o to_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n which_o the_o apostle_n rom._n 5._o make_v to_o be_v the_o effect_n of_o faith_n second_o he_o be_v withal_o persuade_v both_o of_o god_n power_n and_o willingness_n to_o forgive_v and_o pardon_v he_o for_o he_o look_v upon_o the_o multitude_n of_o his_o compassion_n these_o thing_n as_o we_o see_v be_v find_v to_o be_v in_o the_o godly_a in_o their_o sorrow_n for_o sin_n but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o the_o wicked_a for_o they_o in_o their_o sorrow_n in_o stead_n of_o come_v to_o god_n do_v flee_v from_o he_o in_o stead_n of_o hope_n and_o assurance_n of_o mercy_n and_o forgiveness_n have_v still_o judgement_n fear_n and_o dread_a before_o their_o eye_n persuade_v themselves_o that_o their_o sin_n be_v so_o great_a and_o many_o that_o god_n can_v and_o so_o filthy_a that_o he_o will_v not_o remit_v and_o forgive_v they_o chap._n xi_o a_o admonition_n to_o the_o sorrowful_a soul_n these_o thing_n be_v right_o consider_v i_o will_v wish_v the_o sorrowful_a soul_n not_o to_o be_v so_o rash_a and_o peremptory_a in_o his_o conceit_n as_o though_o every_o thing_n be_v no_o soon_o bear_v but_o be_v straightway_o of_o necessity_n bring_v to_o perfection_n but_o learn_v to_o qualify_v and_o allay_v these_o his_o hasty_a censure_n at_o the_o do_n of_o the_o husbandman_n and_o use_v he_o as_o his_o schoolmaster_n in_o this_o case_n to_o teach_v he_o a_o profitable_a lesson_n the_o husbandman_n when_o he_o have_v toil_v great_o in_o dress_v his_o land_n in_o cast_v his_o seed_n into_o the_o ground_n do_v not_o see_v his_o corn_n present_o ear_v yet_o do_v he_o nothing_o misdoubt_v the_o increase_n
thereof_o for_o if_o he_o see_v it_o but_o chit_v in_o the_o ground_n he_o rest_v patient_o for_o the_o time_n content_v expect_v and_o look_v for_o a_o happy_a and_o a_o plentiful_a harvest_n in_o due_a time_n to_o follow_v upon_o his_o labour_n so_o thou_o although_o at_o the_o first_o thou_o find_v such_o a_o small_a growth_n of_o these_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o thou_o yet_o despair_n not_o for_o if_o they_o be_v as_o yet_o but_o chit_v and_o do_v appear_v in_o thy_o eye_n very_o small_a stay_v the_o time_n with_o patience_n and_o assure_v thyself_o that_o the_o lord_n in_o his_o time_n will_v give_v a_o further_a blessing_n and_o what_o if_o thy_o peace_n thy_o joy_n and_o comfort_n be_v not_o grow_v to_o such_o perfection_n yet_o if_o thou_o find_v in_o thyself_o in_o these_o extremity_n that_o thou_o can_v but_o look_v so_o upon_o the_o grace_n and_o mercy_n of_o god_n as_o such_o as_o may_v be_v bestow_v upon_o thou_o hereafter_o though_o as_o yet_o thou_o can_v not_o resolve_v thyself_o by_o reason_n of_o thy_o frailty_n that_o they_o be_v impart_v to_o thou_o and_o withal_o do_v find_v a_o boldness_n in_o thyself_o to_o appear_v before_o his_o presence_n and_o to_o approach_v and_o draw_v near_o unto_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n to_o cry_v and_o call_v for_o they_o though_o it_o be_v with_o shamefastness_n as_o confound_v in_o thyself_o yet_o this_o little_a show_n of_o faith_n that_o so_o quick_o void_v and_o vanish_v out_o of_o thy_o sight_n as_o a_o thing_n of_o nothing_o be_v a_o certain_a argument_n that_o that_o thy_o sorrow_n and_o mourning_n be_v not_o altogether_o void_a of_o faith_n in_o expectation_n of_o the_o remission_n and_o forgiveness_n of_o thy_o sin_n object_n but_o here_o some_o perhaps_o will_v object_v and_o say_v that_o even_o the_o reprobate_n also_o come_v to_o god_n and_o be_v bold_a to_o crave_v remission_n and_o forgiveness_n of_o their_o sin_n as_o often_o as_o they_o say_v but_o the_o lord_n prayer_n which_o with_o many_o of_o they_o be_v full_a oft_o and_o every_o day_n answ_n whereunto_o may_v be_v answer_v 29.13_o esay_n 29.13_o that_o this_o be_v not_o to_o come_v and_o approach_v to_o god_n for_o though_o with_o their_o mouth_n they_o draw_v near_o and_o honour_n god_n with_o their_o lip_n yet_o their_o heart_n be_v far_o away_o neither_o do_v their_o prayer_n howsoever_o they_o make_v a_o outward_a show_n proceed_v from_o any_o good_a affection_n of_o the_o heart_n as_o have_v a_o desire_n and_o longing_n to_o obtain_v the_o thing_n which_o they_o pray_v for_o but_o only_o be_v hypocritical_o use_v for_o a_o show_n and_o fashion_n sake_n and_o therefore_o do_v not_o in_o truth_n deserve_v the_o name_n of_o prayer_n since_o it_o be_v only_o outwardlabour_v of_o the_o lip_n for_o he_o that_o draw_v near_o to_o god_n as_o he_o ought_v to_o do_v must_v do_v it_o with_o a_o true_a heart_n 10.22_o heb._n 10.22_o as_o witness_v the_o apostle_n heb._n 10.22_o in_o which_o sort_n all_o they_o do_v which_o be_v thorough_o break_v under_o sin_n in_o their_o heart_n do_v loath_a it_o be_v weary_a of_o it_o desire_v to_o be_v release_v and_o free_v from_o it_o and_o therefore_o do_v earnest_o pray_v to_o have_v it_o pardon_v think_v nothing_o to_o they_o so_o joyful_a as_o to_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o bondage_n thereof_o as_o for_o the_o other_o concern_v who_o this_o objection_n be_v make_v although_o they_o can_v make_v a_o great_a show_n of_o sorrow_n for_o their_o sin_n &_o that_o they_o pray_v to_o god_n for_o forgiveness_n of_o the_o same_o and_o that_o for_o the_o same_o cause_n they_o do_v present_v themselves_o before_o the_o majesty_n of_o god_n yet_o for_o that_o they_o do_v not_o come_v with_o a_o true_a heart_n do_v not_o in_o heart_n detest_v their_o sin_n but_o take_v a_o delight_n and_o pleasure_n therein_o and_o still_o covet_v to_o frequent_v and_o use_v that_o evil_a which_o in_o their_o word_n and_o mouth_n they_o make_v a_o show_n to_o be_v deliver_v from_o it_o can_v be_v say_v that_o they_o come_v to_o the_o lord_n neither_o that_o they_o can_v obtain_v any_o thing_n by_o this_o their_o liplaboured_n prayer_n savour_v only_o of_o hypocrisy_n and_o not_o of_o truth_n chap._n xii_o of_o loathe_v of_o sin_n the_o second_o mark_n of_o repentance_n the_o second_o thing_n 2._o mark_v 2._o which_o i_o set_v for_o a_o mark_n of_o true_a repentance_n be_v a_o hearty_a and_o inward_a hatred_n and_o loathe_n of_o sin_n not_o only_o in_o that_o it_o be_v simple_o a_o cause_n of_o judgement_n but_o especial_o in_o that_o it_o be_v a_o offence_n against_o god_n that_o be_v so_o gracious_a and_o so_o love_v a_o father_n this_o hatred_n be_v not_o to_o be_v number_v among_o the_o work_n and_o fruit_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o so_o prohibit_v and_o forbid_v unto_o man_n but_o it_o be_v to_o be_v just_o account_v among_o the_o fruit_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o give_v in_o charge_n &_o commandment_n unto_o man_n and_o may_v very_o well_o be_v call_v a_o godly_a hatred_n for_o that_o hereby_o our_o love_n to_o god_n be_v to_o be_v show_v forth_o and_o prove_v according_a to_o the_o say_n you_o that_o love_v the_o lord_n hate_v evil_a example_n of_o this_o hatred_n we_o may_v have_v in_o the_o prophet_n david_n psa_n 119.113_o affirm_v that_o he_o hate_v vain_a invention_n 119.113_o psal_n 119.113_o but_o love_v the_o law_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o again_o 163._o i_o hate_v falsehood_n and_o abhor_v it_o and_o to_o prove_v that_o this_o hatred_n ought_v to_o be_v in_o we_o both_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o filthiness_n of_o the_o sin_n which_o we_o have_v commit_v and_o also_o in_o respect_n and_o regard_n of_o god_n against_o who_o we_o have_v sin_v 51._o psal_n 51._o look_v to_o the_o do_n of_o the_o same_o david_n psal_n 51._o who_o in_o that_o mournful_a psalm_n &_o song_n of_o true_a repentance_n of_o all_o other_o thing_n make_v least_o mention_n of_o judgement_n but_o to_o show_v how_o he_o be_v affect_v in_o his_o mourning_n &_o what_o it_o be_v that_o he_o principal_o respect_v in_o his_o suit_n he_o cry_v out_o unto_o the_o lord_n that_o he_o will_v wash_v he_o thorough_o from_o his_o iniquity_n and_o cleanse_v he_o from_o his_o sin_n etc._n etc._n so_o that_o it_o be_v not_o so_o much_o now_o the_o judgement_n against_o sin_n as_o the_o very_a filthiness_n thereof_o and_o the_o majesty_n of_o the_o person_n against_o who_o he_o have_v transgress_v that_o do_v drive_v david_n into_o this_o sadness_n and_o heaviness_n express_v in_o the_o same_o psalm_n as_o evident_o appear_v by_o his_o earnest_a iteration_n therein_o use_v with_o this_o hatred_n and_o detestation_n of_o sin_n be_v join_v a_o desire_n and_o longing_n to_o be_v deliver_v and_o release_v from_o the_o burden_n and_o bondage_n thereof_o as_o appear_v by_o the_o fervent_a hearty_a and_o earnest_a prayer_n and_o the_o deep_a sigh_n and_o groan_n which_o the_o repentant_a sinner_n often_o make_v &_o pour_v out_o in_o regard_n thereof_o of_o this_o we_o have_v also_o example_n in_o the_o same_o king_n david_n mary_n magdalen_n yea_o and_o the_o poor_a publican_n luke_n 18._o 18._o luke_n 18._o unto_o who_o we_o may_v in_o my_o opinion_n very_o well_o join_v for_o example_n cause_n peter_n auditor_n act._n 2._o who_o hearing_n peter_n apology_n 2._o act_n 2._o and_o beside_o by_o what_o strong_a reason_n bring_v out_o of_o the_o scripture_n he_o have_v pron_v that_o jesus_n who_o they_o have_v crucify_v to_o be_v the_o true_a promise_a messiah_n appoint_v of_o his_o heavenly_a father_n to_o be_v the_o deliverer_n and_o saviour_n of_o his_o people_n cry_v out_o unto_o peter_n and_o his_o fellow_n apostles_n say_v man_n and_o brethren_n what_o shall_v we_o do_v by_o this_o their_o petition_n in_o pitiful_a manner_n pour_v forth_o give_v a_o evident_a testimony_n that_o they_o be_v so_o desirous_a and_o have_v such_o a_o earnest_a longing_n to_o be_v deliver_v as_o that_o they_o be_v ready_a and_o willing_a to_o take_v any_o lawful_a course_n be_v it_o never_o so_o painful_a so_o that_o they_o may_v obtain_v their_o desire_n yea_o they_o seem_v to_o think_v it_o very_o long_o before_o they_o hear_v it_o this_o be_v prove_v unto_o we_o also_o even_o by_o the_o example_n of_o the_o apostle_n paul_n who_o most_o earnest_o pray_v and_o beseech_v the_o lord_n against_o his_o imperfection_n and_o prick_v of_o his_o flesh_n moreover_o with_o this_o hatred_n be_v also_o to_o be_v join_v a_o shame_n and_o confusion_n in_o the_o person_n repentant_a because_o of_o sin_n and_o that_o not_o only_o in_o respect_n of_o man_n for_o so_o the_o very_a hypocrite_n be_v ashamed_a of_o their_o sin_n and_o therefore_o seek_v by_o all_o mean_v possible_a to_o hide_v and_o
keep_v they_o from_o the_o sight_n and_o knowledge_n of_o man_n but_o in_o regard_n of_o god_n and_o in_o consideration_n of_o the_o filthiness_n of_o the_o sin_n itself_o and_o so_o become_v as_o man_n daunt_v in_o themselves_o that_o ever_o they_o be_v so_o ungracious_a to_o commit_v such_o filthiness_n and_o iniquity_n whereby_o their_o so_o gracious_a a_o god_n shall_v be_v offend_v and_o with_o this_o also_o a_o free_a confession_n and_o acknowledgement_n of_o the_o same_o their_o sin_n unto_o god_n nothing_o diminish_v or_o abate_v but_o true_o confess_v the_o heinousness_n thereof_o the_o three_o mark_n follow_v upon_o this_o 3_o mark_v 3_o be_v that_o great_a fear_n to_o offend_v which_o be_v also_o to_o be_v find_v in_o such_o as_o be_v true_o penitent_a of_o the_o which_o fear_n be_v most_o see_v and_o discern_v by_o that_o godly_a care_n that_o still_o attend_v upon_o it_o which_o be_v a_o intentive_a respect_n and_o watchfulness_n over_o our_o way_n lest_o at_o any_o time_n we_o shall_v offend_v hereupon_o it_o be_v that_o david_n affirm_v of_o himself_o say_v 119._o psal_n 119._o i_o have_v consider_v my_o way_n and_o turn_v my_o foot_n unto_o thy_o testimony_n be_v as_o it_o be_v purchase_v whereby_o they_o may_v the_o better_a cover_n and_o conceal_v their_o sin_n &_o hide_v from_o man_n their_o unjust_a and_o wicked_a life_n and_o thus_o they_o love_v not_o godliness_n for_o itself_o but_o for_o these_o respect_n may_v just_o be_v say_v to_o love_v these_o thing_n rather_o than_o to_o have_v any_o love_n and_o affection_n unto_o goodness_n but_o it_o be_v far_o nay_o clean_a contrary_n in_o the_o true_a servant_n of_o the_o lord_n as_o have_v be_v though_o somewhat_o brief_o touch_v before_o chap._n xiii_o of_o the_o application_n of_o the_o forgetful_a of_o his_o own_o nature_n he_o be_v bold_a even_o here_o to_o show_v himself_o according_o and_o so_o work_v oftentimes_o nay_o too_o too_o oft_o and_o that_o in_o many_o that_o although_o the_o doctrine_n utter_v be_v never_o so_o plain_a never_o so_o profitable_a yet_o he_o so_o handle_v the_o matter_n that_o either_o none_o or_o very_o small_a prdfit_n shall_v be_v take_v thereof_o nay_o he_o so_o compass_v the_o matter_n that_o of_o that_o whereof_o man_n shall_v reap_v profit_n to_o his_o consolation_n be_v cause_v they_o to_o gather_v poison_n to_o their_o utter_a desolation_n and_o to_o the_o furtherance_n of_o this_o his_o purpose_n against_o this_o doctrine_n he_o here_o frame_v a_o dangerous_a objection_n in_o manner_n as_o follow_v object_n i_o confess_v or_o else_o thou_o have_v not_o have_v they_o at_o all_o tell_v i_o now_o do_v thou_o never_o find_v as_o yet_o any_o token_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o of_o faith_n nor_o any_o sign_n of_o thy_o regeneration_n to_o show_v forth_o themselves_o in_o thou_o if_o not_o i_o say_v then_o that_o it_o be_v no_o marvel_n to_o see_v the_o man_n of_o god_n that_o be_v as_o yet_o unregenerate_a to_o drench_v himself_o so_o deep_o in_o sin_n for_o until_o he_o feel_v these_o token_n in_o some_o part_n appear_v in_o he_o it_o be_v manifest_a that_o in_o wicked_a and_o disorder_a course_n of_o life_n there_o be_v little_a or_o no_o difference_n at_o all_o to_o be_v find_v betwixt_o he_o and_o the_o reprobate_n and_o yet_o since_o the_o time_n and_o also_o the_o manner_n of_o god_n calling_n be_v as_o i_o have_v say_v to_o we_o so_o uncertain_a and_o unknown_a i_o affirm_v that_o all_o this_o notwithstanding_o a_o man_n may_v in_o time_n be_v call_v and_o therefore_o he_o be_v not_o so_o desperate_o to_o judge_v of_o himself_o and_o again_o if_o it_o so_o be_v that_o thou_o have_v selt_z faith_n in_o her_o fruit_n more_o or_o less_o already_o work_v in_o thou_o and_o have_v perceive_v more_o and_o sometime_o less_o and_o as_o faith_n itself_o sometime_o grow_v to_o be_v so_o weak_a and_o feeble_a that_o it_o show_v not_o itself_o at_o all_o but_o seem_v to_o be_v as_o you_o will_v say_v even_o dead_a and_o yet_o have_v a_o hide_a life_n still_o remain_v in_o it_o so_o it_o be_v also_o with_o the_o fruit_n of_o faith_n and_o hereupon_o it_o be_v that_o we_o read_v of_o diverse_a the_o servant_n of_o god_n as_o noah_n lot_n david_n peter_n and_o other_o who_o faith_n be_v sometime_o bring_v to_o so_o low_a a_o ebb_n and_o the_o flesh_n and_o the_o power_n thereof_o sometime_o in_o they_o prevail_v so_o much_o and_o so_o mighty_o that_o if_o we_o respect_v their_o do_n for_o the_o time_n they_o seem_v to_o have_v little_a or_o no_o sense_n and_o feel_n of_o sin_n at_o all_o but_o as_o man_n no_o whit_n regenerate_v do_v give_v themselves_o over_o to_o commit_v of_o sin_n and_o those_o most_o odious_a and_o abominable_a and_o without_o any_o respect_n do_v show_v and_o behave_v themselves_o as_o man_n secure_a and_o careless_a for_o the_o time_n which_o time_n of_o their_o secure_a loose_a and_o sinful_a manner_n of_o life_n i_o may_v just_o call_v the_o time_n of_o god_n desertion_n for_o that_o he_o do_v as_o it_o be_v withdraw_v from_o they_o the_o lively_a and_o effectual_a work_n and_o operation_n of_o his_o spirit_n permit_v satan_n and_o the_o flesh_n for_o a_o time_n to_o have_v the_o sovereignty_n and_o dominion_n over_o they_o and_o for_o that_o the_o time_n also_o of_o this_o desertion_n as_o experience_n teach_v be_v not_o alike_o to_o all_o but_o in_o some_o be_v of_o short_a and_o in_o other_o of_o a_o long_a continuance_n as_o the_o lord_n in_o his_o wisdom_n shall_v appoint_v i_o therefore_o conclude_v that_o this_o say_a time_n of_o against_o it_o because_o it_o find_v it_o offensive_a unto_o god_n and_o thus_o now_o you_o may_v see_v the_o difference_n of_o these_o two_o motion_n in_o these_o several_a estate_n of_o man_n though_o oftentimes_o i_o know_v that_o the_o hypocrite_n do_v flatter_v himself_o in_o the_o sight_n hereof_o as_o though_o he_o have_v find_v some_o goodly_a and_o precious_a jewel_n in_o the_o dunghill_n of_o his_o corrupt_a nature_n when_o as_o in_o very_a deed_n it_o be_v nothing_o so_o chap._n xiiii_o how_o the_o man_n disquiet_v in_o conscience_n shall_v in_o the_o same_o behane_n himself_o now_o as_o these_o thing_n hitherto_o have_v be_v utter_v for_o direction_n so_o some_o thing_n also_o be_v to_o be_v annex_v partly_o out_o of_o that_o which_o go_v before_o and_o partly_o over_o and_o beside_o the_o same_o to_o instruct_v and_o teach_v the_o man_n in_o conscience_n trouble_v and_o disquiet_v with_o the_o weakness_n of_o repentance_n and_o the_o manifold_a imperfection_n which_o he_o find_v in_o himself_o how_o he_o may_v use_v and_o demean_v himself_o in_o view_n and_o meditation_n of_o they_o and_o that_o he_o may_v do_v it_o with_o great_a comfort_n &_o less_o distrust_n first_o therefore_o i_o will_v wish_v and_o advise_v such_o a_o man_n not_o to_o pass_v over_o every_o thing_n light_o in_o a_o slight_a manner_n trial_n not_o rest_n in_o fear_n without_o due_a trial_n without_o a_o due_a and_o deliberate_a consideration_n as_o be_v the_o common_a use_n of_o the_o sorrowful_a soul_n but_o rather_o to_o grow_v to_o a_o thorough_a trial_n and_o examination_n of_o himself_o for_o oftentimes_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o for_o want_v hereof_o there_o arise_v many_o great_a discomfort_n unto_o man_n when_o man_n either_o utter_o refuse_v or_o else_o by_o reason_n of_o some_o light_a cause_n defer_v the_o matter_n do_v not_o search_v so_o deep_o into_o themselves_o as_o they_o shall_v and_o so_o through_o this_o default_n they_o do_v bereave_v themselves_o of_o the_o sight_n and_o knowledge_n of_o those_o good_a motion_n of_o faith_n and_o the_o comfort_n thereof_o come_v which_o other_o man_n do_v enjoy_v and_o in_o this_o point_n it_o fall_v out_o with_o man_n refuse_v or_o delay_v to_o make_v this_o trial_n as_o it_o do_v with_o a_o man_n disease_v with_o a_o sore_n and_o grievous_a imposthume_n who_o if_o he_o do_v look_v only_o upon_o the_o outward_a appearance_n find_v nothing_o but_o such_o matter_n as_o still_o threaten_v grief_n and_o anguish_n but_o if_o he_o pierce_v into_o it_o and_o lance_n it_o feel_v present_a ease_n so_o while_o the_o sorrowful_a soul_n look_v only_o upon_o the_o outward_a appearance_n of_o his_o imperfection_n he_o shall_v find_v nothing_o but_o matter_n to_o move_v and_o lead_v will_v not_o have_v he_o in_o this_o his_o tryall-making_a to_o be_v as_o i_o have_v say_v either_o a_o austere_a himself_o not_o to_o be_v too_o austere_a a_o judge_n upon_o himself_o or_o a_o corrupt_a and_o unjust_a judge_n upon_o himself_o ready_a rash_o to_o pronounce_v and_o give_v the_o sentence_n before_o the_o cause_n be_v well_o and_o thorough_o know_v for_o this_o be_v a_o usual_a fault_n and_o too_o too_o common_a among_o man_n and_o have_v be_v the_o cause_n of_o many_o great_a inconvenience_n that_o we_o may_v therefore_o be_v find_v herein_o the_o more_o careful_a to_o the_o accuser_n and_o in_o this_o the_o conscience_n be_v as_o a_o judge_n the_o silly_a soul_n now_o as_o a_o offender_n in_o woeful_a case_n stand_v at_o the_o bar_n hold_v up_o the_o hand_n to_o be_v try_v and_o find_v either_o guilty_a or_o not_o guilty_a this_o as_o i_o have_v say_v the_o silly_a soul_n be_v no_o doubt_n the_o principal_a part_n of_o man_n and_o most_o to_o be_v account_v of_o as_o a_o most_o precious_a jewel_n for_o although_o a_o man_n have_v never_o so_o great_a abundance_n of_o earthly_a treasure_n yet_o be_v it_o nothing_o in_o comparison_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o of_o god_n against_o these_o so_o malicious_a and_o envious_a accuser_n advocate_n i'faith_o his_o advocate_n still_o urge_v the_o heinousness_n of_o thy_o iniquity_n faith_n as_o a_o wise_a and_o prudent_a advocate_n stand_v to_o plead_v the_o cause_n who_o although_o she_o always_o tell_v the_o truth_n and_o speak_v with_o great_a comfort_n yet_o be_v she_o oftentimes_o so_o shoulder_v out_o affliction_n that_o they_o do_v take_v thereof_o great_a cause_n of_o joy_n that_o their_o rebellious_a nature_n be_v in_o this_o manner_n suppress_v &_o bridle_v and_o themselves_o bring_v to_o live_v in_o godly_a obedience_n as_o it_o become_v the_o servant_n of_o christ_n second_o although_o the_o benefit_n both_o corporal_a and_o spiritual_a thankfulness_n to_o stir_v they_o up_o to_o cup_n of_o affliction_n that_o we_o be_v bring_v by_o these_o small_a and_o easy_a correction_n to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o great_a punishment_n we_o may_v be_v the_o more_o stir_v up_o and_o provoke_v unto_o thankfulness_n three_o we_o be_v universal_o give_v of_o nature_n god_n to_o put_v they_o in_o mind_n of_o their_o own_o frailty_n and_o make_v the_o depend_v on_o god_n to_o cocker_v manifest_v their_o patience_n aught_o to_o show_v forth_o themselves_o effectual_o so_o among_o the_o rest_n patience_n be_v to_o be_v make_v know_v and_o for_o that_o the_o same_o never_o appear_v better_a then_o in_o the_o time_n of_o affliction_n even_o for_o this_o cause_n also_o i_o affirm_v that_o it_o be_v necessary_a that_o the_o child_n of_o god_n for_o a_o trial_n of_o their_o patience_n shall_v suffer_v affliction_n last_o if_o these_o reason_n thus_o allege_v be_v think_v insufficient_a affliction_n it_o be_v the_o good_a will_n and_o pleasure_n of_o god_n that_o his_o servant_n shall_v suffer_v affliction_n to_o prove_v this_o my_o allegation_n although_o many_o other_o may_v be_v bring_v yet_o let_v all_o other_o pass_v for_o a_o time_n i_o will_v only_o add_v best_a and_o most_o convenient_a course_n both_o for_o their_o good_a and_o his_o own_o glory_n let_v every_o man_n afflict_v not_o murmur_n or_o grudge_v against_o god_n but_o patient_o and_o thankful_o bear_v the_o same_o and_o assure_v himself_o that_o the_o lord_n as_o have_v be_v sufficient_o allege_v in_o his_o time_n will_v put_v a_o end_n and_o ease_v he_o of_o this_o heavy_a burden_n quest._n but_o here_o now_o a_o question_n will_v be_v move_v do_v you_o not_o hereby_o now_o seek_v to_o establish_v again_o that_o erroneous_a point_n of_o popish_a doctrine_n concern_v satisfaction_n in_o that_o though_o christ_n have_v suffer_v for_o we_o and_o redeem_v we_o yet_o we_o must_v notwithstanding_o of_o necessity_n endure_v and_o sustain_v these_o temporary_a pain_n and_o punishment_n for_o sin_n since_o there_o be_v as_o you_o say_v such_o a_o necessity_n herein_o it_o be_v likely_a that_o some_o such_o matter_n shall_v be_v intend_v answ_n hereunto_o i_o answer_v that_o in_o no_o wise_a i_o mind_n or_o purpose_n to_o establish_v that_o devilish_a doctrine_n of_o popery_n whatsoever_o some_o indiscreet_o may_v or_o rather_o will_v conjecture_v that_o i_o assure_v you_o both_o now_o be_v and_o so_o i_o hope_v in_o the_o lord_n still_o shall_v be_v far_o from_o i_o but_o i_o rather_o hold_v and_o maintain_v the_o contrary_n for_o though_o god_n from_o sin_n do_v often_o take_v a_o occasion_n to_o inflict_v these_o thing_n upon_o his_o child_n and_o that_o just_o yet_o he_o do_v not_o lay_v they_o upon_o his_o servant_n as_o any_o satisfactory_a punishment_n whereby_o they_o shall_v make_v any_o recompense_n or_o satisfaction_n unto_o god_n for_o the_o fault_n which_o they_o have_v commit_v god_n forbid_v that_o we_o shall_v so_o think_v and_o detract_v so_o much_o from_o the_o perfection_n and_o all-sufficiency_n of_o the_o satisfactory_a sacrifice_n of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n jesus_n but_o god_n inflict_v these_o satisfaction_n but_o castizement_n and_o correction_n in_o the_o book_n of_o god_n for_o they_o make_v we_o the_o more_o to_o be_v humble_v and_o abase_v in_o the_o sight_n and_o feel_n of_o our_o i_o thou_o do_v account_v it_o also_o that_o to_o be_v prosperity_n which_o be_v void_a of_o all_o trouble_n and_o disquiet_v so_o that_o no_o long_o than_o peace_n &_o quietness_n continue_v no_o long_o he_o account_v it_o to_o be_v prosperity_n whereas_o god_n will_v not_o have_v thou_o to_o consider_v so_o much_o the_o very_a instant_n and_o time_n present_a but_o the_o issue_n and_o end_n disparagement_n of_o his_o life_n and_o substance_n he_o than_o think_v all_o to_o be_v well_o and_o his_o voyage_n to_o be_v worthy_o account_v prosperous_a so_o that_o which_o god_n speak_v of_o thy_o life_n and_o whole_a life_n consider_v altogether_o do_v not_o thou_o thus_o minse_o with_o satan_n divide_v and_o part_v asunder_o by_o piecemeal_o for_o so_o thou_o may_v be_v soon_o deceive_v but_o join_v the_o begin_n with_o the_o proceed_n and_o consider_v both_o these_o with_o the_o issue_n and_o end_v thereof_o and_o thou_o shall_v find_v that_o whatsoever_o satan_n shall_v reason_v but_o even_o in_o adversity_n the_o great_a gale_n of_o all_o prosperity_n chap._n xx._n other_o objection_n of_o satan_n against_o the_o former_a doctrine_n confute_v if_o this_o which_o i_o have_v somewhat_o large_o discourse_v be_v think_v to_o be_v too_o little_a and_o insufficient_a for_o confirmation_n of_o my_o assertion_n neither_o will_v content_v your_o mind_n take_v i_o pray_v you_o a_o little_a pain_n &_o wade_v on_o which_o the_o i_o a_o little_a further_o in_o this_o matter_n &_o i_o trust_v by_o the_o assistance_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n even_o by_o a_o very_a familiar_a example_n to_o make_v the_o case_n so_o plain_a that_o you_o shall_v even_o as_o it_o be_v of_o force_n be_v bring_v to_o confess_v my_o position_n to_o be_v true_a whatsoever_o the_o enemy_n of_o mankind_n will_v seem_v to_o blatter_fw-la out_o to_o the_o contrary_n it_o be_v not_o to_o be_v deny_v but_o that_o satan_n the_o better_a to_o overthrow_v the_o servant_n of_o god_n be_v busy_a to_o take_v many_o exception_n against_o the_o truth_n propose_v and_o use_v many_o reason_n for_o confirmation_n of_o his_o do_n but_o when_o all_o be_v thorough_o skan_v they_o will_v true_a indeed_o that_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n do_v concern_v this_o present_a life_n only_o i_o mean_v the_o promise_n of_o prosperity_n and_o that_o they_o shall_v be_v here_o perform_v also_o say_v that_o the_o righteous_a shall_v not_o fall_v for_o ever_o that_o be_v shall_v never_o fall_v but_o shall_v ever_o flourish_v let_v satan_n upon_o these_o two_o ground_n begin_v to_o settle_v his_o main_n conclusion_n yet_o i_o doubt_v not_o but_o that_o upon_o the_o examination_n of_o his_o reason_n it_o will_v clear_o appear_v that_o his_o conclusion_n be_v but_o vain_a light_a and_o other_o by_o land_n they_o toil_v and_o labour_n and_o be_v great_o for_o the_o time_n disquiet_v as_o man_n overweary_v with_o excessive_a toil_n yet_o in_o all_o this_o their_o pain_n be_v turn_v to_o a_o good_a event_n they_o prosper_v for_o their_o wealth_n be_v thereby_o increase_v their_o labour_n and_o toil_n be_v recompense_v with_o great_a profit_n and_o advantage_n will_v you_o now_o make_v according_a to_o his_o meaning_n his_o good_n order_v and_o dispose_v according_o and_o all_o thing_n finish_v and_o end_v to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o man_n yet_o with_o this_o sick_a man_n himself_o it_o be_v not_o so_o full_o dispatch_v but_o that_o these_o worldly_a affair_n wherewith_o his_o head_n have_v be_v thus_o of_o late_o busy_v will_v not_o so_o be_v root_v out_o but_o that_o
