a_o letter_n from_z a_o friend_z in_o the_o north_n to_o his_o friend_n in_o the_o west_n concern_v the_o elect_v of_o parliament-man_n sir_n you_o send_v by_o mr._n z._n i_o receive_v wherein_o you_o be_v please_v to_o communicate_v to_o i_o your_o sense_n of_o the_o present_a affair_n and_o your_o opinion_n and_o resolution_n concern_v the_o choice_n of_o fit_a member_n to_o serve_v in_o the_o next_o parliament_n i_o be_o sorry_a so_o good_a a_o friend_n and_o one_o who_o so_o late_o seem_v to_o abhor_v the_o carriage_n of_o some_o hot_a head_n shall_v again_o and_o so_o quick_o suffer_v yourself_o to_o be_v delude_v as_o to_o think_v any_o who_o be_v enemy_n to_o the_o establish_v religion_n can_v at_o this_o time_n be_v the_o only_a fit_a man_n to_o serve_v as_o member_n of_o parliament_n neither_o can_v i_o have_v believe_v this_o of_o one_o of_o your_o deep_a judgement_n and_o who_o so_o late_o tell_v i_o you_o never_o desire_v to_o see_v presbytery_n in_o the_o saddle_n that_o you_o high_o honour_v his_o majesty_n and_o seem_v well_o satisfy_v in_o the_o church_n of_o england_n and_o hope_v we_o shall_v short_o all_o unite_v in_o maintenance_n of_o the_o protestant_a religion_n have_v i_o not_o receive_v it_o from_o your_o own_o pen._n i_o have_v as_o you_o desire_v i_o impartial_o consider_v and_o due_o weigh_v the_o several_a reason_n you_o offer_v for_o the_o choice_n of_o such_o man_n as_o you_o call_v sound_a protestant_n but_o no_o great_a friend_n to_o the_o church_n of_o england_n and_o to_o deal_v plain_o with_o you_o do_v not_o find_v myself_o thereby_o at_o all_o incline_v to_o the_o choice_n of_o any_o such_o man_n but_o rather_o be_o confirm_v in_o the_o quite_o contrary_a opinion_n and_o declare_v sincere_o that_o i_o think_v none_o so_o fit_a to_o serve_v in_o this_o parliament_n as_o the_o sober_a and_o sound_a church_n of_o england_n man_n and_o that_o as_o for_o other_o so_o not_o the_o least_o for_o those_o very_a reason_n you_o in_o your_o letter_n seem_v to_o argue_v the_o quite_o contrary_a first_o you_o say_v that_o it_o be_v chief_o upon_o their_o account_n and_o in_o favour_n of_o the_o church_n of_o england_n that_o the_o late_a parliament_n be_v so_o sudden_o prorogue_v and_o afterward_o dissolve_v and_o that_o the_o dissenter_n do_v high_o resent_v such_o proceed_n with_o some_o other_o unhandsome_a reflection_n upon_o his_o majesty_n now_o suppose_v this_o be_v the_o real_a cause_n of_o the_o late_a prorogation_n which_o yet_o you_o be_v not_o certain_a of_o nor_o will_v i_o so_o much_o as_o guess_v at_o in_o my_o opinion_n this_o be_v a_o sufficient_a reason_n that_o none_o be_v fit_a to_o be_v choose_v but_o such_o as_o be_v sober_a church_n man_n unless_o those_o who_o the_o king_n free_a i_o hope_v from_o all_o suspicion_n of_o popery_n or_o from_o have_v any_o correspondence_n with_o the_o late_a king_n have_v think_v the_o chief_a man_n who_o by_o their_o heat_n and_o unseasonable_a division_n in_o the_o house_n retard_v our_o affair_n and_o hinder_v his_o majesty_n from_o the_o vigorous_a prosecution_n of_o the_o war_n for_o the_o reduction_n of_o ireland_n and_o bring_v down_o the_o haughty_a frenchman_n shall_v be_v think_v the_o only_a fit_a man_n to_o serve_v in_o parliament_n sir_n you_o can_v forget_v what_o you_o and_o other_o so_o late_o discourse_v of_o declare_v the_o necessity_n of_o the_o speedy_a and_o firm_a unite_n of_o all_o protestant_n and_o that_o forget_v all_o our_o former_a unhappy_a feud_n and_o animosity_n foment_v by_o the_o papist_n we_o shall_v all_o joint_o assist_v the_o king_n against_o all_o his_o enemy_n whatsoever_o which_o yet_o be_v evident_a can_v never_o be_v do_v but_o by_o a_o good_a and_o full_a agreement_n of_o the_o king_n and_o parliament_n which_o be_v not_o likely_a to_o continue_v long_o if_o only_o such_o man_n must_v be_v choose_v as_o you_o yourself_o confess_v his_o majesty_n be_v somewhat_o displease_v at_o how_o his_o majesty_n carry_v himself_o and_o what_o he_o have_v do_v for_o this_o nation_n and_o the_o protestant_a religion_n be_v evident_a to_o all_o the_o world_n and_o not_o long_o ago_o a_o little_a before_o the_o last_o session_n you_o seem_v high_o satisfy_v in_o all_o his_o proceed_n nor_o can_v i_o forget_v what_o cheerful_a apprehension_n you_o have_v of_o his_o happy_a reign_n with_o hand_n lift_v up_o thank_v god_n that_o now_o we_o have_v get_v a_o true_a protestant_a king_n and_o one_o that_o do_v real_o design_n the_o good_a of_o his_o subject_n and_o will_v never_o go_v about_o to_o deprive_v his_o people_n of_o any_o of_o their_o just_a and_o legal_a privilege_n nor_o can_v you_o i_o think_v instance_n in_o any_o thing_n wherein_o he_o seem_v to_o have_v change_v his_o mind_n or_o in_o the_o least_o to_o deviate_v from_o his_o first_o measure_n of_o secure_v the_o protestant_a interest_n and_o make_v the_o nation_n happy_a set_v his_o heart_n upon_o reconcile_a all_o our_o difference_n and_o by_o all_o mean_n endeavour_v to_o unite_v all_o his_o protestant_a subject_n and_o be_v this_o the_o gratitude_n we_o owe_v to_o the_o glorious_a instrument_n of_o our_o late_a great_a deliverance_n from_o popery_n and_o arbitrary_a power_n and_o do_v we_o then_o to_o requite_v his_o care_n and_o the_o many_o danger_n he_o already_o have_v and_o be_v still_o ready_a to_o expose_v his_o royal_a person_n to_o for_o our_o safety_n choose_v such_o to_o serve_v in_o his_o great_a council_n as_o we_o think_v be_v enemy_n to_o that_o church_n which_o he_o daily_o find_v and_o have_v more_o than_o once_o public_o declare_v the_o chief_a support_n of_o the_o protestant_a cause_n and_o shall_v any_o who_o he_o have_v so_o willing_o indulge_v and_o be_v ready_a if_o it_o stand_v with_o the_o safety_n of_o the_o nation_n to_o indulge_v further_o make_v no_o other_o use_n of_o their_o liberty_n then_o by_o choose_v such_o to_o represent_v they_o as_o be_v ready_a to_o wrest_v from_o his_o majesty_n any_o of_o his_o undoubted_a prerogative_n or_o any_o part_n of_o that_o regal_a power_n which_o by_o the_o law_n of_o this_o nation_n be_v inherent_a in_o the_o crown_n or_o shall_v they_o refuse_v to_o make_v choice_n of_o any_o church_n of_o england_n man_n to_o serve_v in_o parliament_n because_o his_o majesty_n look_v upon_o they_o as_o his_o best_a friend_n and_o such_o as_o be_v likely_a to_o uphold_v monarchy_n in_o all_o his_o just_a and_o ancient_a right_n who_o yet_o let_v i_o tell_v you_o be_v no_o less_o careful_a than_o those_o you_o recommend_v as_o the_o only_a patriot_n to_o keep_v it_o within_o its_o due_a bound_n and_o according_a to_o the_o ancient_a and_o fundamental_a law_n of_o this_o nation_n which_o oblige_v the_o king_n to_o rule_v and_o the_o people_n to_o obey_v in_o such_o sort_n and_o no_o otherwise_o then_o by_o law_n they_o be_v direct_v either_o therefore_o you_o must_v confess_v you_o be_v jealous_a of_o the_o king_n and_o dare_v no_o long_o trust_v he_o as_o not_o design_v the_o good_a of_o his_o people_n for_o which_o you_o neither_o have_v nor_o i_o be_o sure_a can_v offer_v the_o least_o show_n of_o reason_n or_o else_o you_o will_v wise_o make_v choice_n of_o such_o as_o he_o be_v likely_a to_o agree_v with_o and_o exclude_v such_o man_n as_o you_o speak_v of_o in_o that_o as_o you_o say_v it_o be_v upon_o their_o account_n chief_o that_o the_o parliament_n be_v at_o first_o prorogue_v and_o soon_o afterward_o dissolve_v since_o where_o there_o be_v the_o same_o cause_n we_o in_o reason_n may_v suspect_v the_o same_o effect_n second_o as_o little_a be_o i_o move_v by_o your_o second_o reason_n that_o many_o of_o the_o church_n of_o england_n man_n be_v king_n james_n man_n or_o too_o great_a friend_n to_o the_o court_n party_n for_o as_o to_o the_o first_o we_o can_v dive_v into_o man_n heart_n and_o picklock_n their_o thought_n nor_o infallible_o say_v who_o will_v prove_v true_a and_o who_o false_a but_o if_o the_o action_n of_o man_n be_v as_o rule_n to_o judge_v man_n by_o i_o can_v see_v but_o that_o those_o very_a man_n you_o recommend_v as_o the_o only_a fit_a man_n to_o serve_v in_o parliament_n be_v the_o only_a man_n that_o comply_v with_o king_n james_n in_o several_a unjust_a and_o illegal_a proceed_n and_o by_o their_o several_a address_n do_v promise_v so_o to_o do_v and_o though_o as_o you_o say_v some_o man_n of_o the_o church_n of_o england_n be_v so_o far_o king_n james_n man_n as_o not_o to_o take_v the_o oath_n of_o allegiance_n to_o their_o present_a majesty_n and_o that_o not_o a_o few_o of_o her_o communion_n even_o in_o parliament_n be_v against_o the_o impose_v the_o say_a oath_n and_o that_o such_o man_n as_o you_o recommend_v and_o intend_v to_o choose_v
