hezekiah_n and_o the_o people_n of_o the_o jew_n from_o senacherib_n the_o king_n of_o assyria_n and_o if_o this_o be_v so_o than_o we_o may_v understand_v the_o al-taschith_a that_o be_v in_o the_o title_n to_o be_v not_o mere_o as_o some_o will_v have_v it_o a_o note_n to_o direct_v how_o the_o psalm_n be_v to_o be_v sing_v but_o to_o be_v put_v as_o a_o allusion_n to_o what_o the_o prophet_n isaiah_n have_v foretell_v concern_v senacherib_n viz._n that_o for_o all_o his_o proud_a boast_v and_o his_o confidence_n he_o shall_v not_o come_v into_o jerusalem_n 33._o isa_n 37_o 33._o nor_o work_n be_v do_v for_o they_o by_o a_o angel_n who_o go_v out_o with_o god_n commission_n and_o slay_v in_o one_o night_n a_o hundred_o and_o fourscore_o and_o five_o thousand_o of_o the_o enemy_n so_o that_o this_o be_v a_o thing_n whole_o extraordinary_a but_o if_o the_o occasion_n of_o this_o psalm_n be_v david_n happy_a settlement_n upon_o the_o throne_n after_o many_o year_n patient_a wait_v many_o danger_n and_o hardship_n undergo_v then_o have_v we_o indeed_o not_o any_o direct_a or_o downright_a miracle_n demonstrate_v the_o name_n of_o god_n to_o be_v near_o or_o his_o power_n and_o goodness_n to_o be_v exercise_v and_o display_v in_o the_o transaction_n but_o a_o visible_a series_n of_o many_o remarkable_a event_n whereby_o god_n bring_v to_o pass_v what_o he_o intend_v and_o have_v foretell_v and_o which_o a_o observe_a beholder_n that_o be_v concern_v in_o they_o may_v well_o call_v wondrous_a work_n though_o there_o be_v no_o violence_n offer_v to_o the_o course_n but_o rather_o signal_n and_o remarkable_a providence_n i_o suppose_v we_o may_v fair_o make_v from_o the_o text_n these_o two_o follow_a observation_n viz._n 1._o that_o as_o all_o thing_n be_v order_v by_o the_o providence_n of_o god_n so_o there_o be_v some_o event_n that_o deserve_v the_o name_n of_o special_a providence_n for_o that_o they_o show_v forth_o the_o power_n wisdom_n and_o goodness_n of_o god_n and_o his_o care_n over_o his_o church_n and_o people_n in_o a_o more_o especial_a and_o extraordinary_a manner_n than_o other_o do_v 2._o that_o it_o be_v our_o duty_n to_o
spain_n though_o perhaps_o in_o a_o more_o extraordinary_a and_o terrible_a manner_n in_o regard_n to_o the_o blasphemy_n that_o have_v be_v utter_v and_o the_o outrage_n that_o have_v be_v offer_v to_o the_o saint_n and_o servant_n of_o the_o most_o high_a and_o thus_o much_o i_o suppose_v may_v be_v sufficient_a to_o show_v we_o how_o very_a remarkable_a both_o our_o present_a deliverance_n be_v and_o also_o all_o that_o scene_n of_o providence_n of_o which_o it_o be_v a_o part_n and_o likewise_o to_o excite_v our_o devout_a admiration_n of_o the_o power_n wisdom_n goodness_n and_o faithfulness_n of_o almighty_a god_n as_o manifest_v therein_o 2._o i_o come_v now_o in_o the_o last_o place_n brief_o to_o consider_v how_o very_a beneficial_a and_o happy_a a_o deliverance_n this_o be_v to_o we_o in_o order_n to_o the_o increase_n of_o our_o thankfulness_n and_o put_v we_o upon_o a_o suitable_a carriage_n towards_o god_n and_o though_o we_o can_v say_v that_o this_o deliverance_n be_v send_v we_o as_o a_o reward_n of_o our_o good_a desert_n but_o rather_o have_v great_a reason_n to_o bewail_v the_o contrary_a carriage_n of_o the_o generality_n among_o we_o yet_o so_o many_o as_o have_v but_o sincere_o endeavour_v to_o do_v their_o duty_n and_o in_o a_o humble_a sense_n of_o the_o total_a dependence_n of_o all_o upon_o the_o divine_a providence_n have_v be_v earnest_a suitor_n and_o solicitor_n at_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n for_o mercy_n upon_o these_o sinful_a nation_n they_o may_v look_v on_o this_o deliverance_n as_o a_o answer_n to_o their_o prayer_n and_o a_o encouragement_n to_o they_o to_o pray_v still_o and_o to_o put_v their_o trust_n in_o god_n and_o as_o for_o other_o it_o be_v a_o great_a and_o unspeakable_a benefit_n to_o they_o if_o they_o have_v but_o the_o heart_n to_o make_v use_n of_o it_o for_o it_o be_v a_o grant_n they_o far_o respite_n it_o be_v the_o afford_v they_o another_o call_n to_o return_v and_o repent_v which_o if_o they_o will_v not_o hearken_v to_o it_o be_v their_o own_o fault_n but_o the_o kindness_n of_o almighty_a god_n be_v never_o the_o less_o neither_o let_v any_o think_v that_o since_o the_o reason_n of_o this_o providence_n seem_v rather_o to_o be_v god_n high_a displeasure_n at_o the_o design_n of_o our_o enemy_n than_o any_o respect_n that_o he_o have_v to_o such_o a_o sinful_a people_n as_o we_o be_v that_o therefore_o it_o signify_v no_o great_a matter_n whether_o they_o reform_v or_o not_o for_o doubtless_o though_o he_o may_v still_o go_v on_o to_o defeat_v those_o erterprise_n which_o be_v contrary_a to_o his_o will_n yet_o he_o can_v easy_o find_v mean_n sufficient_a to_o punish_v all_o those_o that_o be_v thus_o harden_v in_o their_o sin_n and_o give_v they_o but_o little_a cause_n to_o rejoice_v even_o though_o their_o enemy_n be_v not_o suffer_v to_o attain_v their_o ends._n we_o may_v see_v already_o how_o various_o god_n have_v mix_v good_a and_o bad_a success_n in_o the_o course_n of_o this_o present_a war_n the_o bad_a still_o be_v owe_v to_o ourselves_o and_o a_o effect_n of_o our_o own_o sin_n but_o the_o good_a proceed_n from_o a_o overrule_a hand_n of_o providence_n that_o will_v not_o suffer_v our_o enemy_n to_o have_v their_o will._n but_o now_o if_o we_o will_v repent_v and_o become_v a_o people_n fit_a for_o mercy_n we_o may_v hope_v that_o god_n will_v not_o only_o bring_v down_o our_o enemy_n but_o cause_v we_o to_o rise_v by_o their_o fall_n and_o grant_v we_o that_o peace_n and_o prosperity_n which_o by_o our_o sin_n we_o have_v so_o just_o deserve_v to_o forfeit_v in_o the_o mean_a time_n if_o we_o consider_v but_o what_o the_o effect_n must_v have_v be_v of_o our_o enemy_n have_v their_o expect_a success_n in_o
