benefit_n aught_o to_o feel_v the_o burden_n too_o and_o make_v the_o quantity_n of_o each_o man_n estate_n the_o rule_n whereby_o this_o burden_n be_v to_o be_v equal_o àpportion_v upon_o each_o person_n in_o this_o great_a càse_n therefore_o the_o question_n be_v not_o whether_o the_o sole_a and_o supreme_a power_n of_o the_o militia_n and_o of_o all_o force_n &_o ç._o belong_v to_o the_o and_o arm_n whereby_o he_o may_v right_o govern_v the_o time_n both_o of_o peace_n and_o war._n nor_o be_v the_o question_n upon_o who_o the_o burden_n of_o it_o shall_v be_v lay_v for_o allegiance_n bind_v every_o subject_a to_o yield_v his_o best_a assistance_n both_o of_o counsel_n and_o aid_n for_o the_o common_a defence_n these_o thing_n be_v without_o controversy_n agree_v on_o both_o hand_n but_o the_o only_a question_n be_v concern_v the_o manner_n how_o the_o charge_n of_o the_o defence_n ought_v to_o be_v levy_v whether_o by_o the_o king_n writ_n or_o by_o common_a consent_n hereby_o therefore_o we_o may_v see_v that_o by_o the_o law_n of_o england_n the_o sole_a and_o supreme_a power_n government_n and_o dispose_v of_o the_o militia_n etc._n etc._n be_v and_o ever_o be_v the_o king_n undoubted_a right_n and_o that_o these_o statute_n abovementioned_a do_v but_o declare_v the_o ancient_a law_n in_o that_o behalf_n this_o commission_n therefore_o be_v a_o lawful_a commission_n be_v found_v upon_o the_o ancient_a and_o stand_a law_n of_o the_o realm_n yea_o it_o be_v not_o only_o lawful_a but_o necessary_a forasmuch_o as_o it_o be_v incumbent_n upon_o their_o majesty_n both_o in_o honour_n and_o by_o their_o oath_n to_o provide_v for_o the_o safety_n of_o their_o people_n on_o every_o side_n the_o designation_n or_o appointment_n of_o this_o or_o that_o particular_a person_n to_o be_v their_o majesty_n lieutenant_n be_v qualify_v according_a to_o law_n be_v by_o the_o law_n leave_v to_o their_o majesty_n wisdom_n and_o pleasure_n consider_v we_o then_o that_o these_o thing_n be_v so_o our_o disobedience_n to_o this_o commission_n be_v utter_o inexcusable_a and_o much_o more_o our_o contempt_n 4_o thly_a it_o be_v to_o be_v consider_v also_o that_o when_o their_o present_a majesty_n come_v to_o the_o throne_n the_o militia_n and_o all_o force_n by_o sea_n and_o land_n and_o all_o fort_n and_o place_n of_o strength_n in_o connecticut_n be_v in_o their_o majesty_n hand_n and_o possession_n it_o be_v good_a for_o we_o to_o bethink_v we_o who_o take_v they_o out_o of_o their_o majestìe_n hand_n or_o how_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o they_o be_v not_o now_o in_o their_o majesty_n hand_n if_o it_o be_v so_o indeed_o or_o who_o will_v adventure_v to_o give_v account_n of_o that_o matter_n be_v it_o not_o more_o wisdom_n for_o we_o to_o make_v sure_a of_o a_o pardon_n for_o what_o be_v past_a than_o to_o go_v on_o to_o multiply_v and_o aggravate_v our_o presumption_n 5_o thly_a put_v the_o case_n that_o their_o majesty_n have_v grant_v such_o a_o commission_n to_o we_o shall_v we_o not_o have_v expect_v and_o compel_v obedience_n to_o it_o yea_o no_o doubt_n than_o it_o have_v be_v a_o very_a lawful_a and_o good_a commission_n and_o necessary_a to_o be_v obey_v we_o that_o can_v make_v so_o much_o of_o a_o bare_a silent_a permission_n or_o sufferànce_n of_o our_o government_n and_o make_v so_o much_o of_o the_o king_n be_v làte_a letter_n which_o yet_o take_v not_o so_o much_o as_o the_o least_o notice_n of_o any_o of_o we_o and_o can_v be_v so_o severe_a and_o sharp_a upon_o any_o disacknowledgement_n of_o our_o disputable_a authority_n how_o brag_n &_o peremptory_a shall_v we_o have_v be_v if_o this_o commission_n in_o terminis_fw-la have_v be_v give_v to_o we_o certain_o fire_n and_o faggot_n or_o traduce_v they_o as_o enemy_n and_o rebel_n to_o king_n william_n and_o queen_n mary_n let_v we_o then_o turn_v the_o scale_n we_o know_v the_o golden_a rule_n whatsoever_o you_o will_v that_o other_o we_o catch_v at_o the_o king_n letter_n of_o the_o 3d_o of_o march_n last_o although_o their_o majesty_n do_v therein_o take_v no_o notice_n of_o our_o corporation_n or_o any_o particular_a person_n in_o it_o but_o direct_v it_o only_o in_o general_n thus_o to_o such_o as_o for_o the_o time_n be_v take_v care_n for_o the_o preservation_n of_o the_o peace_n etc._n etc._n in_o our_o colony_n of_o connecticut_n and_o how_o ready_o do_v we_o comply_v with_o it_o and_o why_o why_o it_o will_v be_v say_v it_o be_v his_o majesty_n command_n his_o majesty_n pleasure_n we_o must_v obey_v the_o king_n consider_v then_o this_o commission_n be_v their_o majesty_n command_v also_o this_o be_v their_o royal_a pleasure_n in_o this_o case_n rex_fw-la praecipit_fw-la &_o lex_fw-la precipit_fw-la the_o king_n command_v and_o the_o law_n command_v be_v all_o one_o and_o be_v not_o this_o lawful_a command_n as_o good_a as_o that_o be_v not_o the_o great_a seal_n as_o effectual_a às_o the_o little_a seal_n but_o it_o may_v be_v think_v that_o letter_n put_v a_o staff_n into_o our_o hand_n in_o a_o sinister_a manner_n to_o serve_v ourselves_o of_o our_o fellow_n subject_n but_o this_o commission_n take_v it_o out_o again_o and_o therefore_o we_o willing_o comply_v with_o that_o but_o will_v oppose_v this_o possible_o some_o may_v have_v cause_n to_o thank_v their_o majesty_n for_o that_o but_o if_o that_o be_v the_o case_n where_o be_v our_o obedience_n genuine_a obedience_n be_v universal_a 7_o thly_a consider_v we_o the_o vile_a ingratitude_n of_o this_o our_o ill_a behaviour_n towards_o their_o majesty_n and_o their_o lieutenant_n it_o be_v well_o know_v to_o the_o world_n what_o their_o majesty_n have_v do_v and_o how_o they_o have_v expose_v themselves_o for_o the_o benefit_n of_o the_o whole_a english_a nation_n of_o which_o we_o be_v a_o part_n for_o the_o secure_n of_o all_o their_o right_n civil_a and_o sacred_a their_o religion_n life_n liberty_n and_o property_n and_o the_o continual_a and_o unspeakable_a labour_n and_o hazard_n which_o his_o sacred_a majesty_n condescend_v from_o year_n to_o year_n to_o undergo_v for_o that_o end_n whereby_o their_o majesty_n have_v give_v abundant_a evidence_n of_o their_o good_a affection_n to_o their_o subject_n and_o that_o they_o will_v take_v nothing_o from_o we_o which_o be_v our_o right_n nor_o deny_v we_o any_o thing_n which_o their_o royal_a wisdom_n shall_v see_v to_o be_v good_a for_o we_o but_o be_v willing_a to_o purchase_v it_o for_o we_o at_o a_o dear_a rate_n yea_o and_o this_o very_a commission_n be_v a_o singular_a instance_n of_o their_o tender_a care_n for_o our_o defence_n and_o safety_n in_o this_o perilous_a time_n of_o war_n as_o be_v manifest_a from_o the_o commission_n itself_o and_o do_v we_o thus_o requite_v their_o majesty_n o_o foolish_a we_o and_o unwise_a who_o have_v bewitch_v we_o there_o be_v nothing_o so_o hateful_a and_o provoke_a as_o ingratitude_n true_o we_o may_v do_v well_o to_o remember_v jotham_n parable_n judg._n 9_o and_o the_o applicàtion_n of_o it_o and_o apply_v it_o to_o ourselves_o harken_v to_o i_o say_v he_o that_o god_n may_v hearken_v to_o you_o etc._n etc._n if_o you_o have_v deal_v well_o with_o jerubbaal_n etc._n etc._n and_o have_v do_v to_o he_o according_a to_o the_o deserve_n of_o his_o hand_n for_o he_o fight_v for_o you_o and_o adventure_v his_o life_n far_o and_o deliver_v you_o etc._n etc._n and_o you_o be_v rise_v up_o against_o he_o this_o day_n etc._n etc._n have_v we_o do_v to_o their_o majesty_n according_a to_o the_o and_o inveterate_a hatred_n against_o the_o king_n as_o king_n and_o who_o ever_o come_v from_o he_o as_o such_o we_o have_v sufficient_o declare_v our_o affection_n to_o the_o king_n and_o what_o we_o shall_v have_v do_v if_o we_o have_v he_o ìn_v our_o hand_n we_o shall_v soon_o rid_v the_o world_n of_o king_n if_o we_o have_v they_o in_o our_o power_n remember_v hazael_n be_v thy_o servant_n a_o dog_n say_v he_o that_o he_o shall_v do_v this_o great_a i._n e._n this_o abominable_a thing_n yea_o
but_o when_o temptation_n and_o opportunity_n meet_v together_o he_o do_v it_o notwithstanding_o and_o very_o so_o shall_v we_o 8_o thly_a let_v we_o look_v through_o all_o their_o majesty_n realm_n and_o dominion_n and_o see_v where_o we_o can_v find_v any_o such_o precedent_n or_o example_n we_o be_v too_o apt_a to_o admire_v ourselves_o and_o to_o bless_v god_n that_o we_o be_v not_o as_o this_o publican_n but_o who_o so_o ungrateful_a who_o so_o disobedient_a as_o we_o their_o majaesty_n may_v look_v upon_o themselves_o to_o be_v very_o unhappy_o and_o unequal_o yoke_v as_o to_o we_o the_o best_a of_o prince_n with_o the_o worst_a of_o subject_n 9_o thly_a consider_v we_o the_o time_n be_v this_o a_o time_n for_o we_o to_o be_v refractory_a and_o disobedient_a to_o our_o prince_n between_o four_o and_o five_o year_n ago_o when_o there_o be_v no_o war_n with_o france_n we_o will_v needs_o have_v make_v the_o king_n and_o and_o the_o world_n believe_v that_o we_o be_v in_o continual_a danger_n of_o our_o life_n by_o reason_n of_o the_o native_n be_v at_o war_n with_o we_o with_o who_o we_o say_v we_o have_v just_a fear_n of_o our_o neighbour_a french_a to_o join_v and_o therefore_o not_o receive_v order_n or_o direction_n what_o method_n to_o take_v for_o our_o security_n we_o be_v necessitate_v to_o put_v ourselves_o into_o some_o form_n of_o government_n and_o yet_o now_o there_o have_v be_v open_a and_o strong_a wàr_n with_o france_n and_o with_o the_o french_a in_o all_o part_n above_o this_o three_o year_n and_o that_o attend_v with_o not_o a_o few_o difficult_a and_o hazardous_a time_n there_o be_v yet_o so_o little_a danger_n that_o we_o will_v not_o receive_v their_o majesty_n direction_n but_o spurn_v at_o their_o commission_n scorn_v at_o their_o lieûtenant_n and_o will_v yield_v no_o obedience_n what_o do_v we_o indeed_o intend_v to_o fall_v off_o to_o the_o french_a we_o have_v as_o good_a fall_n to_o the_o french_a as_o fall_v from_o our_o king_n and_o if_o we_o intend_v so_o to_o do_v let_v we_o speak_v out_o if_o not_o sure_o this_o be_v not_o a_o time_n to_o be_v disobedient_a for_o how_o be_v it_o possible_a for_o any_o subject_n will_v slight_v ànd_n disobey_v his_o commission_n or_o take_v upon_o themselves_o to_o wage_v war_n without_o or_o against_o they_o 10_o thly_a we_o be_v now_o address_v their_o majesty_n for_o their_o favour_n so_o we_o say_v and_o to_o the_o end_n that_o we_o may_v recommend_v ourselves_o to_o they_o as_o it_o seem_v their_o most_o proud_a and_o disobedient_a subject_n at_o this_o very_a time_n we_o disobey_v their_o commission_n can_v we_o think_v that_o disobedience_n and_o contempt_n âre_v the_o most_o likely_a way_n to_o obtain_v access_n and_o acceptance_n be_v that_o
