by_o the_o king_n ¶_o a_o proclamation_n restrain_v the_o abusive_a vent_n of_o tobacco_n whereas_o the_o king_n most_o excellent_a majesty_n be_v inform_v of_o the_o abuse_n daily_o arise_v of_o the_o ungoverned_a selling_n and_o retail_v of_o tobacco_n by_o his_o proclamation_n late_o publish_v do_v prohibit_v all_o his_o people_n that_o after_o the_o feast_n of_o candlemas_n which_o be_v now_o last_o past_o none_o of_o they_o out_o of_o certain_a city_n and_o town_n therein_o specify_v to_o have_v be_v appoint_v and_o within_o those_o city_n and_o town_n no_o other_o but_o certain_a person_n name_v as_o in_o the_o say_a proclamation_n be_v express_v and_o such_o as_o from_o time_n to_o time_n as_o shall_v be_v permit_v shall_v sell_v or_o deliver_v any_o tobacco_n by_o retail_n herein_o require_v due_a obedience_n until_o his_o majesty_n shall_v make_v other_o declaration_n as_o by_o the_o same_o proclamation_n appear_v since_o which_o a_o great_a number_n of_o his_o majesty_n love_a subject_n have_v repair_v to_o some_o lord_n and_o other_o of_o his_o majesty_n privy_a council_n be_v his_o majesty_n commissioner_n appoint_v to_o treat_v with_o they_o and_o have_v humble_o desire_v letter_n patent_n of_o licence_n to_o sell_v tobacco_n by_o retail_n whereunto_o his_o majesty_n say_a commissioner_n have_v consent_v but_o because_o it_o be_v both_o convenient_a and_o necessary_a that_o the_o number_n of_o those_o that_o be_v license_v to_o sell_v tobacco_n by_o retail_n and_o also_o their_o name_n be_v know_v that_o in_o time_n convenient_a notice_n may_v be_v take_v from_o they_o how_o much_o tobacco_n in_o each_o year_n they_o retail_n and_o uent_v that_o upon_o knowledge_n thereof_o his_o majesty_n for_o prevent_v of_o the_o issue_v out_o of_o the_o realm_n too_o great_a a_o proportion_n of_o the_o stock_n of_o this_o kingdom_n may_v give_v order_n for_o the_o quantity_n of_o tobacco_n that_o shall_v be_v yearly_o bring_v in_o and_o be_v resolve_v that_o any_o who_o from_o henceforth_o shall_v presume_v to_o utter_v or_o sell_v tobacco_n not_o be_v license_v shall_v severe_o be_v proceed_v against_o for_o these_o and_o for_o other_o cause_n the_o king_n our_o sovereign_a lord_n straight_o defend_v and_o command_v that_o neither_o such_o as_o by_o pretext_n of_o be_v former_o nominate_v as_o meet_v man_n to_o retail_n tobacco_n nor_o any_o other_o from_o henceforth_o presume_v to_o sell_v or_o utter_a tobacco_n by_o retail_n until_o they_o shall_v have_v obtain_v his_o majesty_n licence_n in_o that_o behalf_n any_o permission_n or_o toleration_n that_o may_v be_v pretend_v by_o the_o say_a proclamation_n or_o any_o other_o signification_n notwithstanding_o upon_o such_o pain_n of_o censure_n in_o the_o court_n of_o star-chamber_n and_o elsewhere_o as_o may_v be_v inflict_v upon_o contemner_n of_o his_o majesty_n command_n public_o proclaim_v wherein_o his_o majesty_n be_v please_v that_o a_o part_n of_o the_o fine_n set_v upon_o the_o contemner_n of_o this_o command_n be_v confer_v upon_o those_o that_o give_v notice_n of_o the_o offender_n so_o as_o they_o may_v be_v bring_v to_o judgement_n give_v at_o our_o court_n at_o newmarket_n the_o thirteen_o day_n of_o march_n in_o the_o nine_o year_n of_o our_o reign_n god_n save_o the_o king_n imprint_v at_o london_n by_o robert_n barker_n printer_n to_o the_o king_n most_o excellent_a majesty_n and_o by_o the_o assign_v of_o john_n bill_n 1633._o
