to_o the_o honourable_a assembly_n of_o commons_o in_o this_o present_a parliament_n the_o humble_a petition_n of_o divers_a of_o the_o knight_n gentleman_n clergy_n and_o other_o inhabitant_n of_o the_o county_n of_o somerset_n show_v that_o have_v with_o great_a joy_n of_o mind_n often_o hear_v of_o the_o pious_a inclination_n of_o this_o honourable_a assembly_n unto_o the_o reformation_n of_o church_n government_n and_o have_v of_o late_a not_o without_o some_o regret_n see_v a_o petition_n in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o knight_n gentleman_n and_o other_o of_o this_o county_n tend_v most_o to_o the_o confirmation_n of_o episcopal_a power_n we_o have_v think_v it_o our_o duty_n likewise_o to_o rouse_v up_o our_o affection_n unto_o god_n cause_n and_o in_o all_o humility_n to_o lay_v these_o expression_n thereof_o at_o the_o foot_n of_o this_o great_a council_n as_o be_v under_o god_n the_o chief_a arbitrator_n between_o our_o joy_n and_o sorrow_n for_o the_o present_a church_n government_n of_o what_o right_a it_o be_v we_o may_v not_o dispute_v presume_v it_o to_o be_v subject_a to_o the_o power_n of_o this_o honourable_a assembly_n neither_o do_v it_o much_o import_n how_o ancient_a it_o be_v or_o how_o near_o the_o apostle_n day_n see_v we_o know_v that_o in_o the_o day_n of_o the_o apostle_n themselves_o the_o mystery_n of_o iniquity_n begin_v to_o work_v and_o that_o by_o the_o efficacious_a operation_n of_o the_o same_o the_o man_n of_o sin_n have_v advance_v himself_o from_o the_o episcopal_a chair_n to_o the_o top_n of_o antichristian_a tyranny_n but_o that_o this_o government_n be_v the_o wise_a and_o most_o pious_a tha●_z any_o people_n have_v be_v bless_v withal_o since_o the_o apostle_n day_n what_o ever_o other_o may_v believe_v we_o presume_v be_v no_o part_n of_o the_o creed_n of_o this_o great_a council_n who_o godly_a zeal_n in_o purge_v the_o corruption_n and_o punish_v the_o enemy_n of_o the_o true_a church_n be_v already_o in_o part_n make_v manifest_a do_v give_v we_o rather_o a_o just_a cause_n to_o hope_v that_o god_n have_v yet_o some_o further_a blessing_n of_o reformation_n for_o we_o to_o be_v wrought_v by_o the_o same_o hand_n in_o prosecution_n whereof_o if_o it_o shall_v enter_v into_o your_o heart_n at_o this_o time_n to_o give_v a_o deadly_a wound_n unto_o that_o power_n against_o which_o you_o have_v receive_v so_o many_o complaint_n we_o be_v sure_a you_o shall_v not_o walk_v in_o a_o unknown_a path_n but_o such_o as_o have_v be_v tread_v before_o you_o by_o almost_o all_o the_o church_n of_o god_n which_o have_v exchange_v the_o superstition_n and_o bondage_n of_o rome_n for_o the_o glorious_a light_n and_o liberty_n of_o the_o gospel_n neither_o may_v it_o be_v conceive_v as_o the_o least_o degree_n of_o indignity_n offer_v to_o the_o bless_a memory_n of_o those_o ancient_a or_o late_a bishop_n who_o have_v so_o well_o deserve_v of_o the_o church_n of_o god_n both_o in_o life_n and_o death_n if_o that_o government_n which_o they_o have_v adorn_v by_o their_o singular_a piety_n and_o virtue_n be_v through_o the_o corruption_n and_o wickedness_n of_o those_o which_o have_v succeed_v they_o make_v intolerable_a shall_v by_o your_o just_a authority_n be_v abolish_v or_o if_o the_o number_n and_o merit_n of_o learned_a and_o godly_a bishop_n famous_a in_o they_o generation_n be_v presume_v to_o be_v a_o reasonable_a inducement_n for_o the_o continuation_n of_o that_o government_n we_o leave_v it_o to_o consideration_n of_o this_o wise_a council_n whether_o the_o great_a and_o far_o surpass_a multitude_n of_o ambi●ious_a ungodly_a and_o infamous_a prelate_n in_o most_o country_n and_o age_n by-past_a be_v not_o a_o more_o effectual_a motive_n for_o the_o extirpation_n of_o the_o same_o hereunto_o if_o we_o add_v the_o present_a experience_n even_o in_o these_o our_o day_n of_o their_o many_o insolence_n and_o outrage_n against_o the_o truth_n and_o power_n of_o godliness_n suppress_v and_o corrupt_v god_n ordinance_n vnhollow_v his_o day_n persecute_v his_o minister_n their_o late_a mischievous_a attempt_n to_o impose_v on_o we_o and_o our_o posterity_n a_o insupportable_a yoke_n of_o servitude_n and_o that_o which_o deserve_v the_o high_a pitch_n of_o zeal_n and_o all_o the_o bowel_n of_o this_o honourable_a senate_n the_o notorious_a multitude_n of_o profane_a and_o scandalous_a minister_n the_o most_o active_a and_o malicious_a enemy_n unto_o reformation_n and_o the_o authority_n from_o which_o it_o be_v desire_v we_o trust_v that_o all_o this_o together_o with_o much_o more_o well_o know_v to_o this_o honourable_a assembly_n will_v be_v sufficient_a to_o justify_v the_o fear_n we_o have_v conceive_v of_o so_o dangerous_a a_o power_n wherefore_o be_v persuade_v in_o our_o mind_n that_o it_o will_v be_v a_o work_n acceptable_a unto_o god_n of_o great_a advantage_n and_o comfort_n to_o the_o church_n of_o christ_n and_o no_o less_o conduce_v to_o the_o safety_n peace_n and_o strength_n of_o all_o his_o majesty_n kingdom_n we_o most_o humble_o implore_v the_o authority_n and_o zeal_n of_o this_o honourable_a assembly_n to_o proceed_v unto_o the_o full_a accomplishment_n of_o the_o same_o and_o have_v lay_v the_o axe_n to_o the_o root_n of_o this_o tree_n to_o do_v unto_o it_o as_o to_o a_o plant_n which_o the_o heavenly_a father_n have_v not_o plant_v that_o neither_o the_o spread_a bough_n of_o the_o same_o may_v overshadow_v the_o vineyard_n of_o the_o lord_n nor_o the_o bitter_a fruit_n thereof_o make_v sad_a the_o heart_n of_o the_o people_n of_o god_n any_o more_o for_o ever_o these_o be_v the_o desire_n of_o your_o most_o humble_a petitioner_n and_o we_o be_v persuade_v will_v have_v be_v the_o expression_n of_o multitude_n more_o of_o true-hearted_a christian_n and_o subject_n have_v there_o not_o be_v some_o indirect_a practice_n use_v in_o solicit_v the_o former_a petition_n
