the_o wise_a 5._o as_o it_o be_v the_o mark_n of_o one_o void_a of_o the_o save_a knowledge_n of_o god_n who_o be_v the_o fool_n indeed_o to_o glory_n in_o his_o sin_n and_o especial_o to_o delight_v in_o flatter_v other_o and_o sing_v they_o a_o sleep_n in_o their_o sin_n so_o those_o that_o be_v in_o love_n with_o their_o lust_n be_v much_o ravish_v and_o delight_v with_o the_o flattery_n and_o applause_n of_o other_o sinner_n for_o man_n carnal_a mirth_n and_o particular_o their_o flatter_v of_o other_o in_o sin_n be_v here_o call_v the_o song_n of_o fool_n because_o it_o use_v to_o be_v sweet_a both_o to_o the_o flatter_a and_o the_o flatter_v fool._n 6._o we_o be_v not_o to_o esteem_v of_o the_o speech_n of_o other_o according_a as_o they_o be_v pleasant_a unto_o our_o corrupt_a nature_n to_o which_o nothing_o be_v sweet_a but_o what_o gratify_v some_o lust_n but_o according_a as_o they_o may_v be_v true_o profitable_a and_o conduce_v for_o our_o happiness_n though_o they_o spirit_n entertain_v without_o a_o battle_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o they_o who_o be_v destitute_a of_o the_o save_v knowledge_n and_o grace_n of_o christ_n who_o be_v ordinary_o in_o solomon_n write_n design_v by_o the_o name_n of_o fool_n those_o can_v meet_v oppression_n and_o injury_n from_o man_n no_o otherwise_o than_o with_o fury_n and_o passion_n next_o he_o dissuade_v from_o quarrel_v with_o the_o lord_n dispensation_n in_o carve_v out_o a_o hard_a lot_n to_o man_n say_v not_o what_o be_v the_o cause_n that_o the_o former_a time_n be_v better_a than_o these_o which_o be_v not_o to_o be_v understand_v as_o if_o the_o present_a time_n be_v not_o often_o worse_o than_o the_o former_a in_o many_o respect_n see_v that_o be_v foretell_v mat._n 24.12_o 2_o tim._n 3.1_o or_o as_o if_o the_o lord_n people_n may_v not_o search_v into_o the_o sinful_a procure_a cause_n upon_o man_n part_n of_o the_o change_n of_o time_n to_o the_o worse_o or_o bewail_v the_o defection_n or_o misery_n thereof_o see_v both_o these_o be_v duty_n lam._n 3.40_o etc._n etc._n but_o that_o man_n shall_v not_o quarrel_v with_o god_n providence_n for_o cast_v their_o lot_n in_o more_o troublesome_a time_n and_o under_o more_o grievous_a oppression_n than_o have_v be_v former_o as_o if_o there_o be_v no_o cause_n why_o man_n shall_v submit_v to_o a_o change_n of_o time_n from_o better_a to_o worse_o and_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o lord_n do_v not_o here_o give_v particular_a reason_n of_o such_o change_n because_o there_o be_v many_o obvious_a in_o scripture_n sufficient_a to_o give_v satisfaction_n herein_o only_o he_o prohibit_v and_o rebuke_n such_o boldness_n and_o give_v a_o general_a reason_n of_o the_o dissuasive_a that_o these_o inquiry_n flow_v from_o man_n ignorance_n of_o the_o lord_n sovereignty_n and_o wisdom_n who_o work_v all_o for_o his_o own_o glory_n and_o the_o good_a of_o his_o people_n hence_o learn_v â—â—_o motion_n of_o revenge_n be_v ready_a to_o arise_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o lord_n oppress_v people_n against_o the_o instrument_n of_o their_o trouble_n and_o will_v arise_v if_o their_o heart_n be_v not_o prepossess_v with_o christian_a patience_n for_o solomon_n have_v commend_v that_o grace_n he_o dissuade_v from_o this_o evil_a as_o contrary_a to_o it_o import_v proneness_n in_o the_o best_a thereunto_o in_o a_o oppress_a condition_n and_o that_o it_o will_v arise_v where_o patience_n be_v not_o exercise_v be_v not_o hasty_a in_o thy_o spirit_n to_o be_v angry_a 2._o it_o be_v the_o rashness_n and_o haste_n of_o injure_v spirit_n neglect_v to_o consider_v the_o supreme_a cause_n and_o orderer_n of_o their_o trouble_n 2_o sam._n 16.10_o and_o the_o judgement_n abide_v their_o persecutor_n ps_n 73.17.18_o which_o set_v their_o spirit_n on_o fire_n against_o instrument_n so_o that_o whatever_o provocation_n the_o lord_n people_n have_v from_o man_n they_o shall_v not_o suffer_v their_o passion_n to_o prevent_v their_o reason_n or_o to_o banish_v these_o thought_n which_o may_v quiet_v and_o compose_v their_o spirit_n be_v not_o hasty_a in_o thy_o spirit_n to_o be_v angry_a 3._o it_o be_v not_o enough_o to_o restrain_v the_o out-breaking_a of_o passion_n against_o instrument_n of_o our_o trouble_n but_o the_o very_a inward_a motion_n of_o the_o spirit_n that_o way_n aught_o to_o be_v suppress_v for_o if_o these_o be_v not_o prevent_v or_o timous_o quench_v by_o bring_v into_o the_o heart_n humble_v and_o quiet_v consideration_n they_o will_v soon_o break_v out_o into_o a_o flame_n as_o be_v import_v in_o this_o be_v not_o hasty_a in_o thy_o spirit_n to_o be_v angry_a 4._o it_o be_v the_o mark_n of_o a_o unrenewed_a spirit_n void_a of_o the_o save_v knowledge_n and_o grace_n of_o god_n to_o cherish_v their_o passion_n to_o multiply_v in_o their_o thought_n aggravation_n of_o their_o wrong_n and_o to_o feed_v upon_o the_o contemplation_n of_o possible_a way_n of_o revenge_n and_o this_o without_o any_o reluctance_n or_o grief_n that_o the_o heart_n shall_v be_v so_o exercise_v though_o a_o child_n of_o god_n may_v be_v assault_v with_o passion_n and_o motion_n of_o revenge_n yet_o these_o get_v not_o leave_v to_o rest_v peaceable_o in_o his_o bosom_n for_o anger_n rest_v in_o the_o bosom_n of_o fool_n the_o expression_n signify_v to_o cherish_v defend_v and_o foster_v their_o passion_n ruth_n 4.16_o 5._o man_n in_o who_o heart_n revenge_n be_v a_o settle_a habit_n and_o who_o do_v not_o disquiet_v themselves_o by_o pain_n and_o wrestle_n with_o god_n and_o their_o own_o heart_n to_o get_v another_o frame_n whatever_o worldly_a wisdom_n they_o have_v they_o be_v in_o god_n account_n fool_n and_o prove_v themselves_o thereby_o void_a of_o save_v
knowledge_n for_o anger_n rest_v in_o the_o bosom_n of_o fool_n 6._o when_o passion_n be_v raise_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o best_a it_o be_v not_o soon_o lay_v again_o if_o it_o once_o get_v admittance_n it_o will_v ready_o rest_v and_o settle_v at_o least_o for_o a_o time_n for_o solomon_n give_v it_o as_o a_o reason_n to_o the_o wise_a or_o godly_a why_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v hasty_a in_o their_o spirit_n to_o be_v angry_a because_o anger_n rest_v in_o the_o bosom_n of_o fool_n if_o there_o be_v not_o a_o possibility_n and_o hazard_n that_o it_o may_v have_v some_o rest_n other_o sin_n for_o both_o the_o commonness_n and_o heinousness_n of_o it_o be_v import_v in_o this_o expression_n there_o be_v a_o evil_a among_o all_o thing_n do_v under_o the_o sun_n 3._o though_o it_o be_v a_o ordinary_a delusion_n among_o man_n to_o think_v their_o heart_n good_a be_v their_o way_n never_o so_o vile_a yet_o not_o only_o be_v the_o heart_n of_o all_o man_n natural_o altogether_o void_a of_o any_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a and_o that_o be_v the_o cause_n why_o they_o abuse_v to_o licentiousness_n the_o goodness_n of_o god_n manifest_v in_o his_o dispensation_n but_o likewise_o the_o more_o of_o his_o goodness_n they_o meet_v with_o their_o wickedness_n grow_v the_o more_o their_o vicious_a habit_n contempt_n of_o god_n love_v to_o their_o lust_n hardness_n of_o heart_n and_o spiritual_a security_n grow_v upon_o they_o for_o this_o may_v be_v either_o take_v for_o the_o cause_n why_o they_o abuse_v their_o prosperity_n to_o grow_v thereby_o mad_a in_o their_o sin_n or_o for_o the_o effect_n of_o their_o abuse_n of_o it_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o son_n of_o man_n be_v full_a of_o evil._n 4._o as_o unrenewed_a man_n especial_o in_o prosperity_n do_v ordinary_o go_v mad_a in_o their_o sin_n violent_o prosecute_a their_o lust_n boast_v and_o glory_v in_o their_o sinful_a way_n as_o if_o there_o be_v no_o account_n to_o be_v give_v thereof_o as_o the_o word_n madness_n signify_v so_o what_o ever_o use_v of_o their_o wit_n they_o may_v have_v to_o plot_n mischief_n to_o execute_v their_o purpose_n and_o carry_v on_o their_o plot_n close_o they_o be_v real_o mad_a incapable_a of_o any_o wholesome_a counsel_n destroy_v their_o own_o soul_n and_o take_v pleasure_n in_o so_o do_v like_o mad_a man_n for_o say_v he_o madness_n be_v in_o their_o heart_n 5._o while_o man_n abuse_v the_o lord_n dispensation_n by_o flatter_v themselves_o in_o their_o sin_n and_o persuade_v themselves_o of_o his_o love_n and_o favour_n notwithstanding_o of_o their_o wickedness_n because_o they_o prosper_v there_o be_v a_o spiritual_a distemper_n and_o madness_n upon_o their_o spirit_n for_o it_o be_v main_o in_o reference_n to_o the_o misjudging_a of_o the_o lord_n dispensation_n and_o make_v this_o wrong_a use_n of_o they_o that_o he_o say_v madness_n be_v in_o their_o heart_n 6._o man_n void_a of_o save_v grace_n never_o weary_a of_o their_o mad_a and_o sinful_a course_n while_o life_n or_o strength_n continue_v after_o they_o have_v along_o their_o life_n abuse_v their_o prosperity_n by_o pride_n insolence_n oppression_n and_o slight_v of_o god_n even_o when_o death_n draw_v near_o they_o but_o grow_v yet_o more_o mad_a in_o sin_n repine_v against_o god_n and_o his_o providence_n because_o they_o can_v long_o enjoy_v their_o sinful_a pleasure_n and_o so_o they_o carry_v their_o sin_n to_o the_o very_a gate_n of_o death_n with_o they_o for_o say_v he_o madness_n be_v in_o their_o heart_n while_o they_o live_v and_o after_o that_o they_o go_v to_o the_o dead_a he_o speak_v of_o their_o sinful_a course_n as_o have_v a_o immediate_a connexion_n with_o their_o very_a death_n 7._o as_o temporal_a death_n shall_v put_v a_o life_n and_o the_o necessity_n of_o part_v with_o all_o the_o comfort_n of_o it_o at_o death_n in_o set_v out_o the_o first_o he_o commend_v the_o state_n of_o natural_a life_n while_o he_o say_v to_o he_o that_o be_v join_v to_o all_o the_o live_n which_o be_v a_o kind_n of_o description_n of_o any_o live_a man_n and_o commendation_n of_o his_o state_n 1._o from_o the_o social_n temper_n which_o he_o ought_v to_o have_v and_o the_o advantage_n he_o have_v thereby_o there_o be_v hope_n how_o sad_a soever_o his_o condition_n be_v he_o may_v have_v hope_n that_o it_o may_v be_v better_o or_o according_a to_o the_o matter_n in_o hand_n the_o meaning_n of_o it_o be_v that_o a_o live_a man_n who_o have_v the_o most_o abject_a and_o contemptible_a life_n for_o such_o a_o man_n use_v to_o be_v set_v out_o by_o the_o name_n of_o a_o dog_n in_o scripture_n as_o 2_o king_n 8.13_o be_v better_a that_o be_v he_o may_v be_v more_o useful_a for_o himself_o and_o other_o than_o the_o great_a man_n now_o be_v dead_a here_o it_o will_v be_v consider_v for_o clear_v of_o the_o follow_a purpose_n that_o while_o he_o compare_v the_o live_n and_o the_o dead_a and_o prefer_v the_o former_a to_o the_o latter_a he_o do_v not_o speak_v of_o the_o dead_a consider_v as_o to_o their_o future_a eternal_a state_n for_o so_o they_o be_v beyond_o all_o comparison_n either_o better_a or_o worse_o but_o there_o be_v in_o a_o house_n a_o house_n be_v hold_v up_o and_o furnish_v be_v commodious_a for_o habitation_n a_o shelter_n from_o storm_n and_o tempest_n and_o so_o will_v a_o well_o govern_v decay_v and_o let_v rain_n drop_n through_o make_v the_o life_n of_o the_o inhabitant_n very_o uncomfortable_a so_o be_v it_o in_o a_o ruinous_a commonwealth_n therefore_o be_v it_o that_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n direct_v solomon_n to_o set_v forth_o the_o case_n of_o a_o commonwealth_n under_o the_o similitude_n of_o a_o house_n by_o much_o slothfulness_n the_o building_n decay_v and_o etc._n etc._n 2._o though_o the_o subject_n of_o a_o kingdom_n or_o commonwealth_n have_v often_o a_o hand_n in_o procure_v the_o ruin_n thereof_o isa_n 24.5_o yet_o the_o lord_n do_v charge_v the_o the_o commonwealth_n they_o may_v be_v charge_v with_o the_o ruin_n thereof_o for_o the_o context_n show_v that_o this_o slothfulness_n be_v main_o to_o be_v understand_v in_o reference_n to_o the_o ruler_n by_o much_o slothfulness_n the_o building_n decay_v 3._o the_o decay_n or_o ruin_n of_o a_o commonwealth_n or_o incorporation_n shall_v be_v resent_v by_o all_o the_o inhabitant_n as_o the_o word_n 3._o when_o man_n be_v bold_a in_o determine_v future_a event_n especial_o the_o success_n of_o their_o own_o undertake_n or_o so_o anxious_o inquisitive_a about_o they_o that_o they_o be_v
