be_v the_o cause_n of_o his_o so_o long_o and_o painful_a martyrdom_n now_o for_o these_o four_o end_n whereof_o we_o will_v entreat_v in_o the_o chapter_n follow_v serve_v this_o manner_n of_o contemplation_n whereby_o it_o appear_v that_o this_o first_o manner_n of_o meditatinge_v by_o way_n of_o take_v compassion_n of_o the_o bitter_a pain_n of_o our_o saviour_n be_v as_o it_o be_v a_o mean_a or_o a_o ladder_n unto_o all_o the_o other_o and_o for_o this_o very_a cause_n s._n bonaventure_n make_v great_a account_n of_o this_o manner_n of_o meditation_n upon_o the_o passion_n because_o it_o be_v sensible_o see_v that_o this_o manner_n of_o meditation_n open_v the_o way_n unto_o all_o the_o other_o manner_n of_o meditatinge_v upon_o the_o same_o and_o the_o same_o holy_a father_n saiethe_v that_o for_o this_o purpose_n it_o shall_v be_v a_o great_a help_n also_o for_o we_o to_o take_v some_o discipline_n which_o may_v cause_v some_o smart_n and_o do_v no_o hurt_n to_o the_o body_n that_o so_o by_o the_o feelinge_n of_o that_o so_o little_a pain_n of_o whip_n and_o scourginge_v ourselves_o we_o may_v the_o better_o lift_v up_o our_o spirit_n to_o consider_v somewhat_o of_o the_o pass_v great_a pain_n and_o torment_n which_o the_o most_o tender_a body_n of_o our_o sweite_n saviour_n suffer_v for_o our_o sake_n how_o in_o the_o passion_n of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n appear_v very_o manifest_o what_o a_o greyvous_a thing_n sin_n be_v in_o the_o sight_n of_o almighty_a god_n §_o ii_o the_o second_o point_n that_o we_o have_v to_o consider_v in_o
