or_o consideration_n of_o god_n worship_n but_o be_v command_v only_o in_o respect_n of_o man_n and_o that_o for_o these_o two_o reason_n especial_o 1._o that_o all_o occasion_n of_o labour_v may_v be_v cut_v off_o by_o forbid_v the_o labour_n or_o use_v of_o their_o beast_n 2._o that_o also_o they_o spare_v bruit_n beast_n may_v learn_v how_o great_o god_n will_v have_v regard_n to_o be_v have_v of_o mercy_n and_o favorableness_n towards_o man_n it_o be_v the_o seven_o day_n that_o god_n consecrate_v to_o divine_a service_n for_o these_o reason_n 1._o that_o by_o the_o example_n of_o his_o own_o rest_n as_o a_o most_o forcible_a and_o effectual_a argument_n he_o may_v exhort_v man_n to_o the_o imitation_n thereof_o 2._o that_o this_o rest_n of_o the_o seven_o day_n may_v be_v a_o monument_n of_o the_o creation_n then_o finish_v by_o god_n and_o of_o his_o perpetual_a preservation_n and_o govern_n of_o his_o work_n ever_o since_o that_o day_n unto_o his_o own_o glory_n and_o the_o safety_n of_o his_o choose_a in_o this_o consecration_n god_n require_v these_o two_o thing_n most_o especial_o viz._n 1._o that_o on_o the_o sabbath_n day_n there_o be_v not_o only_o a_o private_a serve_v of_o god_n as_o on_o other_o day_n but_o also_o a_o public_a serve_v of_o he_o in_o the_o church_n 2._o that_o on_o that_o day_n all_o other_o labour_n shall_v give_v place_n both_o to_o the_o private_a and_o public_a worship_n of_o god_n which_o on_o other_o day_n every_o one_o do_v exercise_n according_a to_o his_o vocation_n and_o call_v now_o here_o we_o must_v know_v that_o there_o be_v a_o threefold_a difference_n of_o forbid_a work_n and_o sin_n viz._n 1._o labour_n be_v forbid_v but_o in_o respect_n only_o as_o they_o hinder_v the_o ministry_n of_o the_o church_n or_o as_o they_o give_v offence_n to_o our_o neighbour_n 2._o labour_n be_v forbid_v only_o to_o be_v use_v on_o the_o sabbath_n day_n sin_n at_o all_o time_n 3._o the_o cease_n from_o labour_n be_v a_o type_n of_o cease_v from_o sin_n which_o be_v the_o thing_n signify_v by_o that_o type_n the_o institution_n of_o the_o sabbath_n in_o paradise_n consist_v of_o two_o part_n 1._o a_o blessing_n god_n do_v bless_v it_o in_o regard_n of_o himself_o because_o he_o keep_v it_o in_o his_o own_o person_n 2._o sanctification_n he_o hallow_v it_o also_o in_o regard_n of_o man_n by_o command_v it_o to_o be_v sanctify_v or_o keep_v in_o performance_n of_o holy_a duty_n thus_o two_o thing_n be_v require_v in_o a_o sabbath_n 1._o a_o rest_n which_o consist_v in_o a_o cease_n from_o labour_n 2._o a_o declarative_a consider_v in_o two_o respect_n 1._o by_o that_o bodily_a rest_v the_o lord_n mean_v to_o warn_v the_o people_n of_o israel_n to_o abstain_v and_o rest_v from_o their_o own_o work_n be_v carnal_a and_o defile_v that_o they_o may_v suffer_v the_o holy_a ghost_n to_o work_v in_o they_o so_o that_o it_o be_v a_o type_n or_o shadow_n of_o our_o regeneration_n 2._o that_o circumstance_n serve_v to_o signify_v the_o everlasting_a rest_n of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n which_o be_v as_o it_o be_v part_n of_o the_o former_a 2._o the_o other_o end_n of_o bodily_a rest_n be_v that_o we_o may_v wait_v upon_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o church_n meditate_v upon_o god_n work_n diligent_o apply_v ourselves_o to_o the_o love_n of_o our_o neighbour_n and_o the_o instruction_n of_o our_o family_n the_o former_a end_n be_v take_v away_o by_o the_o come_n of_o christ_n this_o latter_a remain_v and_o be_v perpetual_a there_o be_v likewise_o two_o thing_n to_o be_v consider_v in_o the_o sabbath_n viz._n 1._o the_o thing_n ceremonial_a and_o temporary_a as_o the_o jew_n may_v not_o begin_v a_o journey_n on_o the_o sabbath_n day_n exod._n 16.29_o nor_o kindle_v a_o fire_n thereon_o exod._n 35.3_o nor_o carry_v a_o burden_n jer._n 17.21_o 2._o the_o thing_n moral_a and_o perpetual_a as_o that_o there_o shall_v be_v a_o day_n of_o rest_n that_o this_o day_n shall_v be_v sanctify_v and_o that_o this_o holy_a rest_n shall_v be_v observe_v in_o a_o seven_o day_n the_o sabbath_n signify_v a_o quietness_n or_o rest_n or_o cease_v from_o labour_n for_o these_o reason_n be_v to_o rest_n and_o cease_v from_o our_o work_n on_o that_o day_n that_o god_n may_v then_o show_v and_o exercise_v his_o work_n in_o we_o again_o there_o be_v a_o threefold_a consideration_n to_o be_v have_v of_o the_o sabbath_n viz._n 1._o legal_a command_v in_o exod._n 20.8_o which_o be_v for_o the_o exercise_n of_o 1._o i'faith_o 1._o to_o meditate_v on_o god_n work_n 2._o to_o beg_v a_o blessing_n on_o our_o endeavour_n 3._o to_o exercise_n ourselves_o in_o prayer_n 2._o charity_n 1._o to_o the_o poor_a 2._o to_o our_o servant_n and_o labour_a creature_n 2._o spiritual_a that_o the_o old_a man_n with_o all_o his_o corruption_n may_v be_v root_v out_o and_o the_o new_a man_n may_v be_v make_v perfect_a 3._o celestial_a wherein_o both_o in_o soul_n and_o body_n we_o shall_v rest_v from_o the_o labour_n and_o encumbrance_n of_o this_o present_a life_n likewise_o there_o be_v three_o degree_n of_o the_o sabbath_n not_o unlike_o these_o of_o the_o sacrament_n viz._n 1._o external_n and_o elementary_a in_o which_o as_o touch_v the_o outward_a celebration_n both_o good_a and_o evil_a man_n communicate_v together_o 2._o internal_a and_o spiritual_a whereof_o the_o elect_a only_o and_o the_o faithful_a do_v participate_v 3._o of_o perfection_n and_o consummation_n which_o only_o remain_v for_o ever_o whereunto_o we_o ascend_v by_o the_o second_o and_o for_o which_o the_o faithful_a do_v earnest_o contend_v the_o sanctification_n of_o the_o sabbath_n be_v twofold_a viz._n 1._o public_a which_o be_v the_o solemn_a performance_n of_o spiritual_a work_n tend_v to_o the_o public_a worship_n of_o god_n as_o 1._o the_o read_n hear_v and_o preach_v of_o god_n word_n 2._o the_o administration_n of_o the_o sacrament_n according_a to_o god_n institution_n 3._o public_a prayer_n by_o the_o minister_n the_o congregation_n in_o mind_n firm_o assent_v thereto_o 4._o collection_n for_o the_o poor_a for_o such_o as_o want_v and_o may_v command_v our_o charity_n 2._o private_a which_o be_v do_v apart_o from_o the_o congregation_n still_o to_o god_n glory_n as_o 1._o that_o every_o man_n in_o the_o begin_n of_o the_o sabbath_n in_o the_o morning_n do_v private_o prepare_v himself_o by_o prayer_n to_o the_o public_a service_n that_o follow_v also_o by_o examination_n and_o humble_v of_o himself_o before_o god_n in_o respect_n of_o his_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o sabbath_n in_o meditation_n and_o conference_n of_o the_o word_n before_o preach_v of_o the_o work_n and_o creature_n of_o god_n act_v 17.11_o 4._o that_o we_o visit_v the_o afflict_a both_o in_o mind_n and_o body_n private_o exercise_v ourselves_o in_o the_o work_n of_o charity_n and_o mercy_n neh._n 8.12_o 5._o that_o to_o god_n glory_n we_o shut_v up_o the_o sabbath_n with_o prayer_n and_o thanksgiving_n hence_o appear_v that_o the_o general_a part_n of_o sanctify_v the_o sabbath_n be_v these_o which_o we_o be_v to_o remember_v and_o practise_v as_o often_o as_o administer_v the_o sacrament_n according_a to_o god_n divine_a institution_n and_o so_o according_o to_o use_v the_o same_o 3._o diligent_o to_o frequent_v the_o public_a assembly_n of_o the_o church_n and_o there_o attentive_o to_o give_v ear_n unto_o the_o heavenly_a doctrine_n plain_o open_v and_o deliver_v and_o afterward_o diligent_o to_o meditate_v thereon_o and_o to_o examine_v it_o act_n 17.11_o 4._o public_a invocation_n of_o god_n whereby_o we_o join_v our_o confession_n thanksgiving_n prayer_n and_o desire_n with_o the_o church_n 5._o to_o give_v alm_n that_o be_v to_o perform_v the_o duty_n of_o love_n and_o charity_n thereby_o show_v our_o obedience_n to_o the_o doctrine_n neh._n 8.10_o 6._o the_o

die_v for_o we_o even_o when_o we_o be_v his_o very_a enemy_n the_o child_n of_o wrath_n 6._o he_o prevent_v we_o with_o his_o grace_n when_o we_o seek_v not_o to_o he_o for_o it_o 7._o he_o bestow_v temporal_a favour_n and_o withhold_v present_a affliction_n from_o the_o reprobate_n 8._o he_o prosecute_v we_o with_o his_o love_n unto_o the_o end_n and_o in_o the_o end_n give_v we_o the_o salvation_n of_o our_o soul_n the_o end_n of_o our_o faith_n the_o consideration_n of_o god_n love_n must_v teach_v we_o these_o duty_n viz._n 1._o to_o beware_v of_o all_o sin_n whereby_o we_o do_v offend_v and_o displease_v our_o god_n who_o be_v so_o gracious_a unto_o we_o 2._o to_o trust_v god_n with_o our_o life_n health_n body_n estate_n and_o all_o we_o have_v for_o food_n raiment_n and_o protection_n in_o the_o sober_a use_n of_o all_o lawful_a mean_n 3._o to_o seek_v for_o help_n and_o succour_v from_o god_n in_o all_o distress_n and_o want_n 4._o to_o love_v so_o bountiful_a a_o god_n yea_o to_o enforce_v our_o heart_n to_o all_o duty_n of_o love_n to_o he_o 5._o to_o be_v thankful_a to_o god_n for_o all_o good_a thing_n we_o enjoy_v for_o whatever_o good_a we_o have_v come_v from_o he_o 6._o we_o must_v labour_v continual_o in_o heart_n and_o life_n to_o walk_v worthy_a of_o the_o lord_n and_o to_o please_v he_o in_o all_o thing_n be_v fruitful_a in_o all_o good_a work_n col._n 1.10_o the_o duty_n require_v of_o such_o of_o we_o to_o who_o god_n love_n have_v be_v special_o manifest_v in_o raise_v we_o who_o before_o be_v weak_a and_o contemptible_a in_o the_o world_n to_o be_v instrument_n of_o his_o glory_n viz._n 1._o we_o must_v confess_v ourselves_o miserable_a by_o nature_n and_o no_o good_a thing_n in_o we_o to_o raise_v up_o ourselves_o above_o other_o be_v no_o way_n better_o than_o other_o 2._o we_o must_v consider_v that_o whatsoever_o we_o have_v it_o be_v god_n gift_n we_o have_v receive_v at_o his_o hand_n it_o come_v down_o from_o above_o and_o therefore_o let_v we_o not_o glory_n as_o if_o we_o have_v not_o receive_v it_o 1_o cor._n 4.7_o 3._o we_o must_v walk_v worthy_a of_o our_o call_v even_o of_o those_o mercy_n which_o we_o have_v salvation_n in_o his_o son_n 1_o thess_n 5.9_o other_o to_o condemnation_n for_o his_o own_o glory_n and_o their_o sin_n rom._n 9.22_o reprobation_n be_v god_n decree_n in_o the_o which_o because_o it_o so_o please_v he_o he_o have_v purpose_v to_o resuse_v some_o man_n by_o mean_n of_o adam_n fall_n and_o their_o own_o corruption_n for_o the_o manifestation_n of_o his_o justice_n prov._n 16.4_o 2_o cor._n 13.5_o again_o election_n be_v the_o eternal_a unchangeable_a free_a and_o most_o just_a decree_n of_o god_n whereby_o he_o have_v decree_v to_o convert_v some_o to_o christ_n to_o preserve_v and_o keep_v they_o in_o faith_n and_o repentance_n and_o by_o he_o to_o give_v they_o eternal_a life_n so_o predestination_n be_v a_o eternal_a decree_n or_o purpose_n of_o god_n in_o immanent_a and_o eternal_a act_n of_o divine_a understanding_n and_o will_n can_v be_v conceive_v as_o dependent_a upon_o any_o foresee_a temporal_a act_n of_o man_n freewill_n for_o election_n find_v or_o consider_v all_o mere_a man_n in_o one_o and_o the_o selfsame_a condition_n and_o it_o be_v the_o grace_n prepare_v for_o they_o in_o predestination_n which_o make_v the_o predestinate_a become_v believe_v obey_v and_o the_o like_a otherwise_o it_o be_v a_o conditional_a predestination_n but_o there_o be_v none_o such_o for_o whoever_o be_v elect_v to_o salvation_n be_v predestinate_v also_o the_o first_o cause_n guide_v invite_a and_o bend_v the_o creature_n will_n whither_o itself_o list_v the_o will_n of_o angel_n and_o man_n be_v so_o the_o causer_n of_o their_o action_n that_o nevertheless_o they_o be_v carry_v by_o the_o secret_a counsel_n of_o god_n and_o his_o power_n and_o efficacy_n which_o be_v every_o where_o present_a to_o the_o choose_n or_o refuse_v of_o any_o object_n and_o that_o immediate_o by_o god_n or_o mediate_o by_o instrument_n some_o good_a some_o bad_a as_o it_o seem_v good_a unto_o god_n to_o use_v so_o that_o it_o be_v impossible_a for_o they_o
