repent_v and_o believe_v if_o they_o will_v and_o leave_v the_o act_n of_o these_o thing_n to_o the_o liberty_n of_o their_o own_o will_n dispense_n his_o cooperate_a grace_n as_o they_o call_v it_o according_a as_o he_o see_v the_o will_n of_o man_n carry_v itself_o in_o receive_v or_o not_o receive_v the_o prevent_a grace_n than_o man_n separate_v himself_o when_o he_o be_v convert_v and_o make_v himself_o to_o differ_v from_o another_o man_n contrary_a to_o that_o of_o the_o apostle_n who_o have_v make_v thou_o to_o differ_v from_o another_o and_o what_o have_v thou_o that_o thou_o have_v not_o receive_v 1_o cor._n 3.7_o yes_o may_v some_o man_n say_v i_o have_v something_o which_o i_o have_v not_o receive_v namely_o the_o right_a motion_n of_o my_o own_o will_n in_o not_o resist_v grace_n offer_v for_o according_a to_o this_o doctrine_n when_o two_o man_n have_v the_o same_o power_n inward_o and_o the_o same_o mean_n outward_o grace_n be_v offer_v to_o both_o at_o the_o same_o time_n by_o the_o same_o person_n and_o in_o the_o same_o manner_n the_o reason_n why_o one_o receive_v and_o the_o other_o do_v not_o that_o one_o repent_v and_o believe_v and_o the_o other_o do_v not_o be_v because_o the_o one_o will_n and_o the_o other_o will_v not_o the_o one_o use_v his_o liberty_n well_o the_o other_o ill_o it_o be_v equal_o in_o the_o power_n of_o both_o to_o receive_v grace_n offer_v or_o to_o refuse_v it_o and_o so_o by_o this_o reason_n not_o god_n but_o man_n shall_v separate_v himself_o 8._o according_a to_o this_o doctrine_n man_n shall_v be_v the_o principal_a agent_n in_o the_o work_n of_o conversion_n and_o bear_v a_o better_a part_n therein_o then_o god_n and_o his_o grace_n for_o act_n be_v more_o excellent_a than_o power_n and_o it_o be_v better_a to_o will_v the_o do_v of_o good_a then_o only_o to_o be_v able_a to_o do_v it_o god_n give_v only_a power_n but_o man_n by_o put_v forth_o his_o will_n cause_v this_o to_o come_v into_o act_n man_n will_n first_o move_v and_o this_o motion_n lead_v the_o way_n to_o god_n grace_n to_o move_v and_o concur_v in_o the_o act_n of_o conversion_n and_o so_o be_v make_v the_o more_o excellent_a worker_n 9_o from_o both_o these_o it_o follow_v that_o man_n have_v cause_n of_o glory_v or_o boast_v in_o himself_o because_o he_o have_v separate_v himself_o and_o his_o will_n have_v bear_v the_o better_a part_n in_o the_o work_n of_o conversion_n contrary_a to_o that_o of_o the_o apostle_n why_o do_v thou_o glory_n as_o if_o thou_o have_v not_o receive_v 1_o cor._n 3.7_o of_o grace_n not_o of_o work_n lest_o any_o man_n shall_v boast_v eph._n 2.8_o may_v not_o a_o man_n just_o glory_n in_o himself_o when_o the_o reason_n why_o he_o be_v convert_v and_o another_o be_v not_o both_o have_v the_o like_a mean_n and_o help_n from_o god_n be_v because_o he_o use_v his_o liberty_n of_o will_v well_o when_o another_o use_v it_o ill_o he_o apply_v himself_o to_o receive_v that_o which_o another_o reject_a the_o motion_n of_o his_o own_o will_n have_v as_o it_o be_v lead_v the_o way_n to_o god_n will_v in_o the_o work_n of_o conversion_n 10_o if_o god_n work_v in_o conversion_n shall_v be_v only_o by_o way_n of_o suasion_n and_o propound_v object_n than_o he_o and_o his_o grace_n shall_v be_v no_o more_o powerful_a and_o efficacious_a in_o convert_v man_n than_o the_o devil_n be_v in_o pervert_v and_o seduce_v for_o he_o work_v in_o propound_v object_n and_o that_o in_o the_o most_o congruous_a time_n and_o manner_n that_o may_v be_v contrary_a to_o that_o of_o the_o apostle_n great_a be_v he_o that_o be_v in_o you_o than_o he_o that_o be_v in_o the_o world_n 1_o joh._n 4.4_o which_o he_o bring_v as_o a_o argument_n to_o prove_v that_o they_o have_v and_o shall_v overcome_v temptation_n and_o seducing_n because_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n which_o be_v in_o they_o be_v great_a in_o regard_n of_o his_o powerful_a manner_n of_o work_v than_o he_o which_o be_v in_o the_o world_n that_o spirit_n of_o antichrist_n which_o go_v about_o to_o seduce_v and_o pervert_v man_n vers_n 3._o yea_o there_o shall_v be_v no_o difference_n betwixt_o god_n and_o the_o minister_n in_o the_o work_n of_o conversion_n for_o the_o kind_n and_o manner_n of_o work_v though_o there_o may_v be_v for_o the_o measure_n and_o degree_n for_o the_o minister_n work_v by_o persuade_v and_o propound_v object_n and_o god_n work_v not_o otherwise_o though_o he_o may_v persuade_v more_o strong_o yea_o upon_o this_o ground_n it_o differ_v not_o in_o measure_n and_o degree_n because_o in_o a_o ordinary_a course_n god_n persuade_v no_o man_n by_o his_o own_o voice_n immediate_o but_o do_v this_o by_o the_o mouth_n of_o his_o messenger_n and_o minister_n who_o be_v god_n ambassador_n beseech_v man_n in_o christ_n stead_n to_o be_v reconcile_v to_o christ_n 2_o cor._n 5.20_o and_o he_o save_v man_n by_o the_o foolishness_n of_o preach_v 1_o cor._n 1.21_o can_v it_o be_v fit_o say_v of_o the_o minister_n that_o he_o open_v man_n eye_n or_o heart_n that_o he_o take_v away_o the_o heart_n of_o stone_n and_o give_v a_o heart_n of_o flesh_n that_o he_o create_v of_o he_o if_o he_o do_v work_v after_o the_o same_o manner_n that_o god_n do_v 11._o if_o god_n work_v man_n conversion_n only_o by_o way_n of_o suasion_n and_o by_o such_o a_o grace_n as_o ofttimes_o be_v resist_v and_o always_o may_v be_v then_o as_o one_o man_n do_v resist_v this_o grace_n and_o make_v it_o ineffectual_a so_o may_v another_o and_o another_o yea_o so_o may_v all_o man_n do_v and_o so_o it_o be_v possible_a that_o all_o man_n may_v partake_v of_o the_o grace_n of_o conversion_n and_o yet_o never_o a_o man_n in_o the_o world_n be_v convert_v which_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o excellency_n and_o efficacy_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n and_o to_o that_o of_o the_o prophet_n convert_v thou_o i_o and_o i_o shall_v be_v convert_v jer._n 31.18_o if_o nature_n do_v nothing_o in_o vain_a much_o less_o do_v grace_n how_o can_v faith_n be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n and_o

never_o be_v whole_o dead_a that_o have_v a_o principle_n of_o life_n always_o remain_v in_o he_o hence_o it_o be_v call_v a_o engraft_a word_n jam._n 1.21_o because_o he_o that_o be_v beget_v and_o bear_v anew_o have_v this_o word_n so_o engraft_v in_o he_o as_o it_o shall_v never_o whole_o fall_v from_o he_o and_o so_o long_o as_o this_o remain_v life_n remain_v argument_n 9_o whatsoever_o presumptuous_a in_o their_o course_n than_o they_o may_v miscarry_v and_o fall_v away_o answ_n 1_o if_o this_o be_v so_o what_o solid_a comfort_n and_o consolation_n can_v the_o saint_n take_v in_o any_o of_o these_o precious_a promise_n whereby_o they_o be_v assure_v that_o they_o shall_v be_v keep_v by_o the_o mighty_a power_n of_o god_n unto_o salvation_n that_o they_o shall_v never_o fall_v that_o none_o shall_v take_v they_o out_o of_o christ_n hand_n etc._n etc._n when_o as_o they_o know_v that_o they_o have_v a_o root_n of_o deficiency_n in_o themselves_o that_o they_o have_v that_o which_o will_v cause_v they_o to_o depart_v from_o the_o live_a god_n if_o they_o be_v not_o continual_o uphold_v if_o the_o promise_n of_o preservation_n depend_v upon_o ourselves_o and_o the_o right_a order_n of_o our_o own_o will_n so_o that_o god_n will_v not_o fail_v to_o support_v we_o so_o long_o as_o we_o stand_v fast_o and_o cleave_v close_o to_o he_o but_o if_o we_o fail_v and_o let_v go_v our_o hold_n he_o will_v likewise_o fail_v and_o let_v go_v his_o hold_n suffer_v we_o to_o fall_v what_o true_a comfort_n i_o say_v can_v this_o yield_v we_o in_o the_o time_n of_o temptation_n that_o he_o have_v promise_v to_o keep_v we_o what_o comfort_n have_v it_o be_v to_o peter_n when_o christ_n promise_v that_o he_o will_v pray_v for_o he_o that_o his_o faith_n may_v not_o fail_v if_o it_o have_v be_v with_o this_o condition_n namely_o if_o peter_n do_v not_o let_v go_v his_o hold_n of_o christ_n than_o christ_n will_v not_o let_v go_v his_o hold_n of_o he_o but_o if_o he_o do_v if_o he_o shall_v forsake_v or_o deny_v he_o as_o afterward_o it_o fall_v out_o than_o he_o must_v shift_v for_o himself_o for_o he_o will_v take_v no_o further_o care_n of_o he_o 2._o if_o man_n continue_v to_o do_v his_o duty_n what_o need_n be_v there_o of_o any_o such_o promise_n of_o support_n for_o what_o be_v his_o duty_n but_o to_o watch_v and_o walk_v in_o fear_n to_o hold_v fast_o to_o christ_n to_o keep_v himself_o in_o the_o way_n of_o obedience_n yea_o to_o continue_v and_o be_v constant_a in_o do_v of_o these_o thing_n now_o what_o be_v this_o but_o to_o persevere_v and_o what_o need_n god_n give_v man_n a_o promise_n that_o he_o will_v make_v he_o persevere_v when_o he_o do_v this_o already_o that_o he_o will_v make_v he_o stand_v fast_o when_o he_o see_v he_o stand_v fast_o for_o by_o this_o doctrine_n god_n promise_n reach_v no_o far_o but_o to_o make_v a_o man_n stand_v while_o he_o continue_v to_o stand_v and_o no_o long_o 3._o what_o privilege_n by_o these_o conditional_a promise_n belong_v to_o true_a believer_n that_o be_v within_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n more_o than_o to_o pagan_n or_o infidel_n and_o all_o that_o be_v without_o the_o covenant_n for_o even_o these_o if_o they_o will_v turn_v to_o god_n lay_v fast_o hold_v on_o he_o cleave_v constant_o to_o he_o may_v assure_v themselves_o that_o he_o will_v receive_v they_o gracious_o and_o for_o ever_o hold_v they_o fast_o while_o they_o continue_v to_o do_v this_o 4_o one_o grace_n which_o god_n have_v promise_v believer_n and_o which_o be_v conclude_v in_o the_o new_a covenant_n as_o a_o special_a branch_n of_o it_o be_v perseverance_n itself_o namely_o that_o he_o will_v put_v his_o fear_n into_o their_o heart_n so_o as_o they_o shall_v never_o depart_v from_o he_o jer._n 32.40_o now_o how_o can_v any_o thing_n be_v a_o condition_n of_o itself_o how_o can_v it_o stand_v with_o good_a sense_n that_o god_n shall_v promise_v his_o people_n that_o upon_o condition_n they_o preserve_v his_o fear_n in_o their_o heart_n so_o as_o they_o do_v not_o depart_v from_o he_o he_o will_v put_v his_o fear_n into_o their_o heart_n that_o they_o
