as_o we_o shall_v see_v far_o afterward_o this_o be_v the_o true_a ground_n and_o reason_n why_o there_o be_v a_o sin_n against_o the_o holy_a spirit_n that_o be_v irremissible_a for_o the_o come_n unto_o we_o to_o make_v application_n of_o the_o love_n of_o the_o father_n and_o grace_n of_o the_o son_n unto_o our_o soul_n in_o the_o contempt_n of_o he_o there_o be_v a_o contempt_n of_o the_o and_o the_o immediate_a efficient_a cause_n of_o all_o grace_n and_o gracious_a effect_n in_o man_n wherever_o there_o be_v mention_v make_v of_o they_o or_o any_o fruit_n of_o they_o it_o be_v to_o be_v look_v on_o as_o a_o part_n of_o his_o work_n though_o he_o be_v not_o express_o name_v or_o it_o be_v not_o particular_o attribute_v unto_o he_o i_o know_v not_o well_o or_o do_v not_o well_o understand_v what_o some_o man_n begin_v to_o talk_v about_o moral_a virtue_n some_o thing_n they_o seem_v to_o aim_v at_o if_o they_o will_v once_o leave_v the_o old_a pelagian_a ambiguous_a expression_n and_o learn_v to_o speak_v clear_o and_o intelligible_o that_o be_v in_o their_o own_o power_n and_o so_o consequent_o of_o all_o other_o men._n at_o least_o it_o be_v so_o with_o a_o ordinary_a blessing_n upon_o their_o own_o endeavour_n which_o thing_n we_o must_v afterward_o inquire_v into_o but_o for_o grace_n i_o think_v all_o man_n will_v grant_v that_o as_o to_o our_o participation_n of_o it_o it_o be_v of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n and_o of_o he_o alone_o now_o grace_n be_v take_v two_o way_n in_o the_o scripture_n 1._o for_o the_o gracious_a free_a love_n and_o favour_n of_o god_n towards_o we_o and_o 2._o for_o gracious_a free_a effectual_a operation_n in_o we_o and_o upon_o we_o in_o both_o sense_n the_o holy_a spirit_n be_v the_o author_n of_o it_o as_o unto_o we_o in_o the_o first_o as_o to_o its_o manifestation_n and_o application_n in_o the_o latter_a as_o to_o the_o operation_n itself_o for_o although_o he_o be_v not_o the_o principal_a cause_n nor_o procurer_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o first_o sense_n which_o be_v the_o free_a act_n of_o the_o father_n yet_o the_o knowledge_n sense_n comfort_n and_o all_o the_o fruit_n of_o it_o be_v by_o he_o alone_o communicate_v unto_o we_o as_o we_o shall_v see_v afterward_o and_o the_o latter_a be_v his_o proper_a and_o peculiar_a work_n this_o therefore_o must_v be_v take_v for_o grant_v that_o wherever_o any_o gracious_a act_n of_o god_n in_o or_o towards_o man_n be_v mention_v it_o be_v the_o holy_a spirit_n who_o be_v peculiarly_a and_o principal_o intend_v sect._n 8_o sixthly_a it_o must_v be_v due_o consider_v with_o reference_n unto_o the_o whole_a work_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n that_o in_o whatever_o he_o do_v he_o act_v work_n and_o distribute_v according_a to_o his_o own_o will._n this_o our_o apostle_n express_o affirm_v and_o sundry_a thing_n of_o great_a moment_n do_v depend_v hereon_o in_o our_o walk_n before_o god_n as_o 1._o that_o the_o will_n and_o pleasure_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n be_v in_o all_o the_o goodness_n grace_n love_n and_o power_n that_o he_o either_o communicate_v unto_o we_o or_o work_v in_o we_o he_o be_v not_o as_o a_o mere_a instrument_n or_o servant_n dispose_v of_o the_o thing_n wherein_o he_o have_v no_o concern_v or_o over_o which_o he_o have_v no_o power_n but_o in_o all_o thing_n he_o work_v towards_o we_o degree_n of_o his_o operation_n man_n may_v resist_v some_o sort_n or_o kind_n of_o mean_n that_o he_o use_v as_o to_o some_o certain_a end_n and_o purpose_n but_o they_o can_v resist_v he_o as_o to_o the_o latter_a can_v be_v so_o sometime_o in_o and_o by_o that_o word_n which_o in_o its_o own_o nature_n tend_v to_o the_o conversion_n of_o sinner_n he_o intend_v by_o it_o only_o their_o harden_v isa._n 6._o 9_o 10._o john_n 12._o 40_o 41._o act_n 18._o 26._o rom._n 11._o 8._o and_o he_o can_v when_o he_o please_v exert_v that_o power_n and_o efficacy_n in_o work_v as_o shall_v take_v away_o all_o resistance_n sometime_o he_o will_v only_o take_v order_n for_o the_o preach_a and_o dispensation_n of_o the_o word_n unto_o man_n for_o this_o also_o be_v his_o work_n act_v 13._o 2._o herein_o man_n may_v resist_v his_o work_n and_o reject_v his_o counsel_n concern_v themselves_o but_o when_o he_o will_v put_v forth_o his_o power_n in_o and_o by_o the_o word_n to_o the_o create_v of_o a_o new_a heart_n in_o man_n and_o the_o open_n of_o the_o eye_n of_o they_o that_o be_v blind_a he_o do_v therein_o so_o take_v away_o the_o principle_n of_o resistance_n that_o he_o be_v not_o that_o he_o can_v be_v resist_v sect._n 9_o 3._o hence_o also_o it_o follow_v that_o his_o work_n may_v be_v of_o various_a kind_n and_o that_o those_o which_o be_v of_o the_o same_o kind_n may_v yet_o be_v carry_v on_o unequal_o as_o to_o degree_n it_o be_v so_o in_o the_o operation_n of_o all_o voluntary_a agent_n who_o work_n by_o choice_n and_o judgement_n they_o be_v not_o confine_v to_o one_o sort_n of_o work_n nor_o to_o the_o production_n of_o the_o same_o kind_n of_o effect_n and_o where_o they_o design_v so_o to_o do_v they_o moderate_v they_o as_o to_o degree_n according_a to_o their_o power_n and_o pleasure_n thus_o we_o shall_v find_v some_o of_o the_o work_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n to_o be_v such_o as_o may_v be_v perfect_a in_o their_o kind_n and_o man_n may_v be_v make_v partaker_n of_o the_o whole_a end_n and_o intention_n of_o they_o and_o yet_o no_o save_a grace_n be_v wrought_v in_o they_o such_o be_v his_o work_n of_o illumination_n conviction_n and_o sundry_a other_o man_n i_o say_v may_v have_v a_o work_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n on_o their_o heart_n and_o mind_n and_o yet_o not_o be_v sanctify_v and_o convert_v unto_o god_n for_o the_o nature_n and_o kind_a of_o his_o work_n be_v regulate_v by_o his_o own_o will_n and_o purpose_n if_o he_o intend_v no_o more_o but_o their_o conviction_n and_o illumination_n no_o more_o shall_v be_v effect_v for_o he_o work_v not_o by_o a_o necessity_n of_o nature_n so_o that_o all_o his_o operation_n shall_v be_v of_o the_o same_o kind_n and_o have_v their_o especial_a form_n from_o his_o nature_n and_o not_o from_o his_o will._n so_o also_o where_o he_o do_v work_v the_o same_o effect_n in_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n i_o mean_v the_o same_o in_o the_o kind_n of_o it_o as_o in_o their_o regeneration_n he_o do_v yet_o he_o do_v it_o by_o sundry_a mean_n and_o carry_v it_o on_o to_o a_o great_a inequality_n as_o to_o the_o strengthen_n of_o its_o principle_n and_o increase_v of_o its_o fruit_n unto_o holiness_n and_o hence_o be_v that_o great_a difference_n as_o to_o light_v holiness_n and_o fruitfulness_n which_o we_o find_v among_o believer_n although_o all_o alike_a partaker_n of_o the_o same_o grace_n for_o the_o kind_n thereof_o the_o holy_a spirit_n work_v in_o all_o these_o thing_n according_a to_o his_o own_o will_n whereof_o there_o neither_o be_v nor_o can_v be_v any_o other_o rule_n but_o his_o own_o infinite_a wisdom_n and_o this_o be_v that_o which_o the_o apostle_n mind_v the_o corinthian_n of_o to_o take_v away_o all_o emulation_n and_o envy_n about_o spiritual_a gift_n that_o every_o one_o shall_v orderly_o make_v use_n of_o what_o he_o have_v receive_v to_o the_o profit_n and_o edification_n of_o other_o they_o be_v say_v he_o give_v and_o
