we_o say_v of_o this_o persian_a monarch_n sure_o as_o he_o know_v not_o god_n punishment_n obser_n 46._o tyrant_n their_o note_n and_o punishment_n so_o he_o know_v not_o himself_o neither_o any_o christian_a prince_n to_o keep_v state_n by_o love_n and_o seek_v glory_n in_o the_o discharge_n of_o their_o calling_n that_o obey_v god_n they_o may_v prevail_v with_o man_n and_o so_o establish_v their_o kingdom_n in_o this_o mortal_a life_n as_o to_o make_v they_o step_n to_o the_o crown_n of_o glory_n it_o follow_v what_o shall_v we_o do_v according_a to_o the_o law_n 15._o verse_n 15._o here_o we_o may_v see_v a_o show_n of_o equity_n in_o this_o godless_a mischief_n obser_n 47._o wicked_a pretend_v law_n for_o the_o satisfy_n of_o their_o mischief_n prince_n though_o the_o disobedience_n of_o the_o queen_n have_v much_o enrage_v he_o yet_o neither_o in_o his_o rage_n do_v he_o aveng_v himself_o of_o she_o neither_o do_v he_o claim_v a_o privilege_n to_o do_v it_o contrary_a to_o his_o law_n which_o happy_o he_o may_v have_v do_v because_o the_o matter_n immediate_o concern_v himself_o neither_o do_v he_o take_v upon_o he_o to_o be_v judge_n in_o his_o own_o cause_n but_o refer_v the_o matter_n to_o the_o judgement_n of_o the_o law_n and_o that_o to_o be_v scan_v by_o the_o wisdom_n of_o his_o councillor_n wherein_o that_o he_o will_v not_o be_v his_o own_o judge_n in_o his_o own_o cause_n but_o refer_v himself_o for_o satisfaction_n to_o the_o right_a censure_n of_o his_o law_n herein_o if_o we_o judge_v he_o by_o the_o outward_a action_n he_o do_v not_o amiss_o his_o baseness_n appear_v in_o that_o that_o whereas_o though_o he_o have_v refer_v himself_o to_o the_o sentence_n of_o his_o law_n yet_o he_o shall_v have_v reserve_v both_o the_o exposition_n and_o iudgeman_n of_o the_o law_n unto_o himself_o as_o be_v a_o part_n of_o his_o royal_a prerogative_n these_o his_o proper_a right_n he_o leave_v to_o their_o lust_n who_o happy_o guess_v his_o mind_n may_v hereby_o satisfy_v both_o their_o own_o and_o his_o unlawful_a purpose_n concern_v the_o point_n that_o a_o man_n may_v not_o be_v judge_n in_o his_o own_o case_n the_o equity_n hereof_o appear_v in_o this_o judge_n obs_n 48._o whether_o a_o man_n may_v be_v his_o own_o judge_n that_o as_o man_n be_v blind_a in_o their_o judgement_n and_o so_o can_v know_v themselves_o so_o they_o will_v be_v likely_a partial_a in_o their_o own_o matter_n as_o love_v themselves_o to_o well_o and_o therefore_o we_o must_v avoid_v all_o occasion_n of_o evil_a and_o see_v we_o must_v avoid_v all_o appearance_n of_o evil_a therefore_o howsoever_o it_o may_v be_v that_o a_o man_n may_v herein_o judge_v righteous_o yet_o see_v to_o the_o world_n it_o will_v appear_v otherwise_o therefore_o for_o the_o approve_v of_o his_o good_a name_n in_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o world_n he_o be_v not_o in_o my_o opynion_n to_o be_v judge_n in_o his_o own_o case_n cause_n obser_n call_v the_o lord_n to_o be_v witness_n to_o the_o truth_n so_o he_o convince_v the_o conscience_n of_o the_o judge_n to_o assent_v thereto_o world_n obse_n 50._o how_o a_o man_n shall_v be_v approve_v when_o he_o stand_v upon_o the_o testimony_n of_o innocency_n contrary_a to_o the_o verdict_n or_o report_v of_o the_o world_n therefore_o it_o be_v not_o the_o bare_a witness_n that_o carry_v the_o matter_n but_o god_n &_o that_o judge_n they_o approve_v the_o same_o use_v 1_o this_o utter_o convince_v all_o popish_a religion_n and_o proceed_n if_o they_o may_v not_o be_v their_o own_o judge_n but_o stand_v to_o the_o judgement_n of_o the_o world_n and_o it_o condemn_v also_o the_o
himself_o to_o justify_v the_o equity_n of_o this_o his_o extreme_a sentence_n do_v he_o plead_v as_o divine_n do_v that_o sin_n be_v commit_v against_o the_o great_a person_n and_o the_o thing_n command_v be_v very_o indifferent_a therefore_o by_o these_o circumstance_n the_o offence_n be_v more_o heinous_a and_o so_o do_v deserve_v so_o heinous_a a_o punishment_n or_o do_v he_o rather_o like_o a_o politician_n hereby_o justify_v the_o king_n anger_n by_o inflict_v so_o extreme_a a_o punishment_n for_o the_o provoke_a thereof_o do_v he_o as_o a_o bawd_n hereby_o make_v way_n for_o change_n as_o happy_o smell_v the_o king_n purpurpose_o herein_o sure_o though_o happy_o in_o policy_n he_o intend_v both_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o because_o rather_o than_o prince_n must_v err_v the_o subject_n shall_v deep_o smart_v for_o it_o and_o courtier_n many_o time_n be_v glad_a to_o be_v such_o cook_n that_o they_o may_v also_o lick_v their_o own_o finger_n yet_o in_o policy_n he_o hide_v all_o these_o and_o make_v a_o fair_a gloze_n upon_o it_o he_o imply_v that_o one_o must_v be_v make_v a_o example_n for_o the_o procure_n of_o peace_n to_o many_o better_a one_o perish_v then_o that_o unity_n be_v destroy_v for_o say_v he_o when_o the_o decree_n of_o the_o king_n which_o shall_v be_v make_v shall_v be_v publish_v throughout_o all_o his_o kingdom_n though_o it_o be_v great_a all_o the_o woman_n shall_v give_v their_o husband_n honour_n both_o great_a and_o small_a 20._o verse_n 20._o here_o we_o may_v see_v the_o height_n of_o his_o wisdom_n good_a worldling_n prefer_v the_o private_a before_o the_o public_a good_a he_o provide_v for_o himself_o and_o his_o like_a that_o they_o may_v have_v honour_n of_o their_o wife_n but_o for_o his_o lord_n and_o master_n he_o must_v have_v no_o honour_n from_o he_o but_o rather_o he_o must_v be_v dishonour_v in_o put_v she_o off_o upon_o so_o slight_a a_o cause_n and_o the_o miserable_a queen_n must_v be_v dishonour_v also_o and_o that_o with_o apparent_a wrong_n and_o eternal_a contumely_n so_o cunning_a be_v politician_n to_o secure_v themselves_o with_o the_o dishonour_n of_o their_o prince_n so_o foolish_a be_v such_o prince_n thus_o to_o be_v lead_v by_o the_o nose_n by_o they_o so_o righteous_a be_v the_o lord_n to_o make_v the_o one_o here_o by_o a_o rod_n unto_o the_o other_o that_o politician_n hereby_o grow_v insolent_a and_o great_a be_v catch_v in_o their_o month_n and_o so_o empty_v in_o their_o prince_n as_o be_v sponge_n to_o fill_v themselves_o with_o the_o spoil_n of_o other_o that_o they_o may_v afterward_o wring_v they_o out_o at_o their_o pleasure_n thus_o you_o see_v the_o depth_n of_o his_o council_n purpose_n wicked_a have_v glorious_a cloak_n for_o e-evill_a purpose_n and_o yet_o behold_v what_o a_o goodly_a veil_n he_o have_v to_o cast_v over_o it_o the_o woman_n shall_v give_v honour_n as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v that_o they_o be_v make_v wise_a by_o the_o queen_n punishment_n will_v hereafter_o not_o dare_v but_o honour_v their_o husband_n lest_o they_o also_o be_v subject_a to_o the_o like_a censure_n do_v you_o not_o see_v what_o a_o mask_n here_o be_v to_o cover_v his_o cruelty_n it_o be_v good_a say_v he_o that_o some_o shall_v be_v make_v example_n to_o keep_v other_o in_o awe_n and_o therefore_o let_v vashty_n smart_v sound_o for_o it_o that_o all_o we_o may_v live_v more_o peaceable_o a_o most_o righteous_a thing_n use_v exemplary_a justice_n when_o to_o be_v use_v that_o some_o shall_v be_v make_v example_n and_o yet_o the_o queen_n may_v well_o have_v be_v spare_v out_o of_o the_o number_n of_o those_o some_o if_o her_o fault_n will_v not_o yet_o her_o state_n at_o least_o shall_v have_v privilege_v she_o every_o small_a fault_n must_v not_o make_v a_o example_n though_o exemplary_a justice_n be_v profitable_a for_o other_o but_o shall_v it_o be_v grant_v that_o this_o example_n will_v be_v profitable_a love_n terror_n to_o breeder_n of_o true_a love_n will_v terror_n breed_v true_a love_n and_o can_v their_o be_v honour_n without_o love_n well_o therefore_o may_v this_o persian_a hereby_o domineer_v over_o his_o wife_n bold_o well_o may_v she_o crouch_v for_o fear_n and_o play_v the_o hypocrite_n with_o he_o well_o may_v she_o flatter_v he_o in_o his_o sin_n and_o further_o he_o to_o hell_n as_o be_v all_o the_o honour_n that_o carnal_a man_n look_v for_o of_o their_o wife_n but_o true_a honour_n will_v never_o be_v yield_v by_o terror_n flattery_n be_v not_o love_n nor_o soothe_v true_a submission_n so_o that_o howsoever_o in_o other_o case_n this_o course_n may_v have_v have_v success_n yet_o in_o this_o case_n between_o man_n and_o wife_n a_o far_o better_a may_v have_v be_v take_v namely_o to_o have_v labour_v with_o the_o king_n to_o be_v reconcile_v to_o his_o wife_n oh_o this_o example_n of_o mercy_n have_v be_v more_o undoubted_o profitable_a use_v 1_o so_o let_v we_o make_v up_o the_o breach_n and_o not_o set_v it_o more_o open_a let_v our_o censure_n aim_v at_o the_o sin_n for_o the_o recovery_n of_o the_o party_n and_o let_v charity_n cover_v especial_o small_a offence_n build_v we_o not_o upon_o surmize_n to_o cast_v away_o life_n lest_o we_o exalt_v ourselves_o by_o the_o fall_n of_o other_o above_o all_o thing_n keep_v we_o holy_a and_o inviolable_a the_o marriage_n bed_n and_o let_v only_o the_o defile_n thereof_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o perpetual_a separation_n as_o for_o such_o ordinary_a breach_n as_o be_v betwixt_o man_n and_o wife_n 19_o math._n 19_o let_v we_o compose_v they_o wise_o among_o ourselves_o be_v their_o none_n wise_a than_o other_o that_o we_o must_v bewray_v our_o own_o nest_n and_o discover_v our_o weakness_n abroad_o that_o we_o may_v be_v snare_v with_o our_o own_o infermity_n have_v ahashuerosh_n be_v wise_a the_o matter_n need_v not_o to_o have_v go_v any_o further_a and_o then_o his_o prince_n have_v spare_v that_o labour_n and_o he_o have_v escape_v this_o dishonour_n yea_o the_o miserable_a queen_n have_v not_o thus_o wicked_o be_v divorce_v but_o as_o it_o seem_v the_o king_n be_v set_v upon_o it_o and_o therefore_o no_o soon_o have_v menucan_n pronounce_v the_o sentence_n without_o demur_n on_o the_o matter_n or_o delay_v of_o the_o execution_n council_n verse_n 21._o wicked_a prince_n easy_o yield_v to_o bad_a council_n but_o the_o holy_a ghost_n add_v that_o the_o say_v please_v the_o king_n and_o the_o prince_n so_o hard_o be_v wicked_a prince_n to_o be_v please_v with_o good_a council_n and_o so_o easy_o do_v they_o embrace_v even_o that_o which_o be_v pernicious_a but_o how_o shall_v it_o appear_v the_o king_n be_v please_v here-with_a it_o follow_v because_o he_o ratify_v the_o sentence_n pronounce_v he_o do_v say_v the_o spirit_n according_a to_o the_o word_n of_o menuchan_n and_o to_o show_v his_o willingness_n therein_o 22._o verse_n 22._o lest_o after-witte_n may_v cross_v it_o he_o send_v his_o law_n throughout_o all_o the_o province_n to_o this_o effect_n that_o every_o man_n shall_v bear_v rule_n in_o his_o own_o house_n and_o that_o the_o law_n concern_v be_v deprive_v of_o her_o regal_a dignity_n that_o so_o according_a to_o the_o sentence_n church_n wicked_a instrument_n of_o fulfil_n of_o god_n righteous_a will_n in_o their_o punishment_n for_o his_o glory_n and_o the_o good_a of_o the_o church_n her_o royal_a estate_n may_v be_v give_v to_o her_o companion_n that_o be_v better_a than_o she_o so_o do_v the_o wicked_a therein_o fulfil_v the_o will_n of_o god_n wherein_o they_o do_v against_o his_o will_n and_o in_o their_o wickedness_n be_v his_o righteous_a instrument_n that_o he_o may_v have_v the_o glory_n in_o bring_v light_n out_o of_o darkness_n and_o they_o may_v confound_v in_o their_o own_o mallitiousnesse_n whereby_o we_o may_v learn_v in_o all_o such_o accident_n as_o principal_o to_o look_v up_o to_o god_n in_o the_o use_n of_o such_o instrument_n so_o not_o to_o iustefie_v the_o instrument_n though_o well_o use_v of_o the_o lord_n nor_o to_o condemn_v the_o lord_n for_o the_o obliquity_n of_o the_o instrument_n but_o wise_o here_o to_o discern_v between_o thing_n that_o differ_v give_v god_n

committee_n such_o hide_a mischief_n yea_o such_o as_o go_v not_o without_o their_o disgrace_n and_o snubbe_n from_o jealous_a and_o licentious_a prince_n and_o therefore_o be_v provoke_v to_o be_v avenge_v of_o they_o and_o which_o be_v the_o most_o material_a of_o all_o such_o as_o have_v be_v employ_v by_o wicked_a prince_n in_o treacherous_a and_o vile_a oppression_n of_o the_o subject_n and_o therefore_o by_o the_o justice_n of_o god_n do_v many_o time_n practise_v their_o lesson_n upon_o their_o teacher_n and_o such_o as_o by_o reason_n of_o nature_n gift_n and_o the_o abuse_n thereof_o be_v give_v up_o to_o commit_v all_o sin_n even_o with_o greediness_n and_o therefore_o no_o marvel_n if_o they_o will_v make_v no_o bone_n of_o this_o sin_n by_o which_o they_o may_v hope_v to_o have_v a_o protection_n for_o all_o the_o rest_n and_o yet_o be_v herein_o meet_v withal_o by_o the_o divine_a justice_n who_o many_o time_n turn_v this_o sin_n to_o be_v paymaster_n for_o all_o the_o rest_n as_o bring_v to_o shame_n and_o confusion_n the_o author_n thereof_o use_v 1._o which_o as_o it_o condemn_v those_o that_o determine_v of_o sin_n by_o the_o condition_n of_o the_o person_n imply_v that_o only_a base_a and_o ignoble_a mongrel_n do_v conceive_v such_o monstrous_a sin_n as_o for_o generous_a mind_n and_o heroical_a spirit_n it_o come_v not_o once_o into_o their_o thought_n to_o commit_v such_o outrage_n whereas_o we_o see_v the_o school_n of_o rome_n have_v set_v down_o this_o as_o a_o mark_n of_o the_o most_o heroical_a spirit_n to_o rise_v up_o against_o the_o prince_n and_o experince_n have_v make_v it_o too_o apparent_a in_o the_o powder_n treason_n howsoever_o popery_n will_v have_v daub_v the_o matter_n so_o here_o general_o the_o best_a privilege_n of_o nature_n be_v condemn_v as_o be_v the_o most_o desperate_a instrument_n of_o sin_n if_o they_o be_v not_o sanctify_v by_o grace_n and_o therefore_o here_o man_n of_o reputation_n may_v wise_o learn_v their_o lesson_n to_o season_v their_o gift_n with_o good_a education_n and_o religion_n that_o so_o they_o may_v be_v keep_v within_o the_o bond_n of_o obedience_n to_o god_n and_o man_n and_o prince_n also_o may_v learn_v here_o their_o lesson_n as_o not_o to_o abuse_v their_o attendant_n to_o the_o hurt_n of_o other_o so_o not_o to_o give_v they_o just_a cause_n of_o discontent_n yea_o all_o flesh_n may_v here_o learn_v it_o lesson_n 7._o mich._n 7._o not_o to_o trust_v in_o a_o friend_n not_o to_o put_v confidence_n in_o a_o councillor_n no_o not_o to_o trust_v the_o wife_n that_o lie_v in_o the_o bosom_n otherwise_o then_o to_o subordinate_a all_o to_o god_n and_o for_o his_o sake_n to_o renounce_v they_o all_o so_o shall_v they_o be_v faithful_a unto_o we_o so_o far_o as_o shall_v make_v for_o our_o good_a and_o though_o they_o be_v unfaithful_a yet_o the_o infidelity_n of_o man_n shall_v not_o make_v the_o faith_n of_o god_n of_o none_o effect_n but_o let_v we_o consider_v a_o little_a further_o of_o the_o name_n and_o office_n of_o these_o eunuch_n for_o their_o name_n they_o be_v call_v bigthan_n &_o teresh_a by_o which_o it_o seem_v that_o convey_v vashty_n the_o queen_n to_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o king_n and_o behold_v he_o be_v now_o one_o of_o they_o that_o call_v the_o king_n to_o a_o account_n for_o that_o his_o notorious_a wrong_n do_v unto_o the_o queen_n so_o just_a be_v the_o lord_n to_o make_v instrument_n of_o sin_n weapon_n to_o punish_v the_o same_o to_o the_o magnify_v of_o his_o providence_n and_o reformation_n these_o eunuch_n though_o their_o name_n do_v imply_v it_o to_o be_v diverse_a yet_o both_o concur_v in_o this_o treason_n obs_n 148._o in_o great_a trust_n great_a treason_n that_o it_o be_v a_o office_n of_o some_o trust_n and_o thence_o we_o may_v learn_v not_o unprofitable_o that_o treason_n be_v in_o trust_n those_o that_o be_v most_o in_o place_n of_o trust_n they_o prove_v many_o time_n so_o it_o do_v not_o excuse_v such_o as_o be_v put_v in_o trust_n because_o their_o sin_n be_v the_o great_a by_o how_o much_o the_o more_o they_o be_v the_o better_o think_v off_o and_o yet_o colour_n their_o inward_a villainy_n so_o may_v we_o herein_o observe_v the_o admirable_a justice_n of_o god_n in_o take_v these_o wiseman_n in_o their_o craftiness_n and_o thereby_o make_v way_n for_o their_o destruction_n that_o their_o cxcessive_a pomp_n breed_v secret_a envy_n while_o it_o be_v flatter_v with_o outward_a applause_n and_o feign_a devotion_n do_v thereby_o nourish_v discontent_a and_o so_o dislike_v of_o their_o person_n and_o this_o discontent_n be_v enrage_v by_o impose_v new_a burden_n which_o be_v usual_o the_o effect_n of_o prince_n vain_a expense_n break_v out_o often_o into_o treason_n and_o subversion_n of_o their_o greatness_n which_o though_o it_o be_v no_o just_a cause_n for_o such_o outrage_n in_o subject_n 12._o rom_n 12._o because_o vengeance_n deserve_v eternal_a punishment_n but_o if_o we_o measure_v sin_n by_o the_o subject_n wherein_o it_o be_v then_o see_v god_n have_v reconcile_v our_o person_n unto_o he_o in_o jesus_n christ_n and_o will_v remember_v our_o iniquity_n no_o more_o to_o punish_v they_o everlastinglv_n so_o neither_o do_v he_o to_o any_o other_o end_n chastise_v they_o in_o this_o life_n then_o may_v make_v for_o the_o good_a of_o the_o sinner_n &_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o name_n and_o to_o this_o end_n serve_v the_o law_n of_o man_n which_o intend_v the_o salvation_n of_o the_o sinner_n in_o the_o inflict_a sure_o by_o inflict_v the_o punishment_n upon_o the_o intent_n that_o so_o the_o intent_n be_v meet_v withal_o the_o act_n may_v be_v prevent_v and_o all_o hope_v cut_v off_o from_o be_v pardon_v for_o the_o act_n see_v the_o very_a intent_n discover_v be_v so_o deadly_a to_o the_o author_n and_o do_v not_o the_o general_a good_a necessary_o force_v this_o severity_n see_v the_o suppress_n of_o the_o prince_n be_v the_o ruin_n of_o many_o thousand_o yea_o threaten_v the_o destruction_n of_o the_o whole_a commonwealth_n what_o shall_v i_o tell_v you_o of_o the_o call_n of_o the_o king_n
