and_o god_n promise_n yet_o he_o can_v do_v these_o thing_n to_o purpose_n nor_o any_o man_n in_o the_o world_n can_v give_v he_o effectual_a comfort_n by_o the_o application_n of_o the_o promise_n cause_n of_o a_o obedience_n follow_v the_o active_a sanctification_n be_v 1_o the_o act_n of_o the_o spirit_n to_o prepare_v we_o convert_v we_o work_v faith_n in_o we_o and_o by_o faith_n unite_v faith_n be_v not_o alone_a for_o the_o scripture_n inform_v we_o that_o there_o be_v but_o one_o way_n of_o justification_n of_o a_o sinful_a man_n and_o that_o be_v by_o faith_n in_o christ._n for_o see_v the_o apostle_n determine_v but_o two_o way_n possible_a the_o one_o by_o work_n the_o other_o by_o faith_n and_o prove_v that_o no_o man_n live_v by_o work_n can_v be_v justify_v in_o god_n sight_n because_o all_o be_v sinful_a no_o man_n no_o not_o the_o best_a without_o sin_n no_o man_n perform_v perfect_a and_o perpetual_a obedience_n it_o seem_v strange_a to_o i_o that_o any_o man_n shall_v affirm_v that_o justification_n either_o continue_v or_o final_a shall_v be_v by_o work_n if_o it_o be_v by_o work_n than_o the_o reward_n of_o righteousness_n be_v of_o debt_n according_a to_o the_o law_n of_o work_n and_o then_o it_o be_v not_o of_o grace_n if_o it_o be_v by_o work_n than_o work_n must_v be_v perfect_a and_o such_o as_o can_v endure_v the_o severity_n of_o god_n justice_n at_o our_o last_o trial_n if_o by_o work_n than_o the_o worker_n be_v so_o righteous_a in_o himself_o by_o reason_n of_o they_o that_o no_o one_o can_v lay_v any_o thing_n to_o his_o charge_n for_o justification_n first_o and_o last_o must_v look_v upon_o man_n as_o chargeable_a with_o no_o sin_n otherwise_o he_o will_v not_o be_v justifiable_a by_o the_o most_o just_a god_n but_o no_o work_n of_o man_n be_v such_o if_o by_o work_n then_o by_o faith_n as_o a_o work_n we_o may_v be_v justify_v but_o that_o can_v be_v if_o by_o work_n than_o work_n may_v receive_v chirst_n as_o our_o propitiatour_n and_o intercessor_n but_o that_o be_v the_o proper_a act_n of_o faith_n if_o by_o work_n than_o we_o receive_v not_o the_o reward_n of_o righteousness_n and_o eternal_a glory_n as_o merit_v by_o christ_n and_o derive_v immediate_o from_o christ_n to_o we_o as_o believe_v on_o he_o and_o renounce_v all_o righteousness_n in_o ourselves_o if_o by_o work_n than_o our_o final_a justification_n be_v not_o a_o remission_n of_o sin_n if_o by_o good_a work_n than_o our_o good_a work_n may_v be_v plead_v in_o the_o title_n unto_o righteousness_n and_o eternal_a life_n before_o the_o tribunal_n of_o god_n but_o the_o promise_n itself_o and_o the_o reward_n promise_v be_v merit_v by_o christ_n and_o god_n promise_v this_o righteousness_n and_o reward_n for_o christ_n sake_n work_n of_o regenerate_a person_n be_v virtual_o in_o faith_n receive_v christ_n and_o no_o such_o faith_n continue_v can_v be_v without_o good_a work_n it_o be_v certain_a that_o as_o god_n in_o the_o gospel_n command_v good_a work_n commend_v such_o as_o do_v they_o promise_v reward_n unto_o well-doer_n â—o_o he_o will_v in_o his_o last_o judgement_n justify_v good_a work_n and_o the_o doer_n of_o they_o so_o as_o wisdom_n be_v justify_v of_o her_o child_n but_o this_o justification_n be_v only_a approbation_n whereby_o man_n may_v justify_v god_n as_o well_o as_o god_n justify_v man_n in_o this_o manner_n therefore_o we_o must_v needs_o say_v that_o as_o good_a work_n be_v command_v by_o god_n please_v unto_o god_n so_o they_o be_v approve_v and_o reward_v of_o god_n they_o so_o far_o as_o good_a prevent_v future_a guilt_n take_v away_o no_o former_a guilt_n do_v evidence_n our_o faith_n and_o title_n unto_o everlasting_a glory_n strengthen_v our_o union_n with_o christ_n because_o they_o strengthen_v faith_n confirm_v our_o hope_n glorify_v god_n give_v good_a example_n unto_o man_n make_v we_o more_o capable_a of_o communion_n with_o god_n tend_v towards_o the_o possession_n of_o glory_n distinguish_v we_o from_o the_o profane_a and_o hypocrite_n give_v some_o content_n to_o our_o conscience_n and_o there_o be_v a_o kind_n of_o happiness_n in_o the_o do_n of_o they_o and_o in_o the_o remembrance_n of_o they_o do_v bless_a be_v they_o who_o always_o abound_v in_o they_o for_o they_o know_v that_o their_o labour_n be_v not_o in_o vain_a in_o the_o lord_n yet_o bellarmin_n though_o a_o great_a advancer_n of_o merit_n think_v it_o not_o only_o safe_a but_o the_o safe_a way_n to_o put_v our_o whole_a and_o sole_a trust_n not_o in_o these_o our_o good_a work_n but_o in_o christ._n but_o it_o be_v not_o only_o the_o safe_a but_o the_o only_a way_n so_o to_o do_v if_o we_o will_v be_v justify_v before_o god_n to_o say_v that_o good_a work_n be_v a_o condition_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n we_o shall_v be_v judge_v according_a to_o our_o work_n remission_n of_o sin_n be_v promise_v to_o such_o as_o forgive_v other_o and_o that_o such_o as_o love_n god_n fear_v he_o serve_v he_o do_v his_o commandment_n shall_v be_v reward_v and_o have_v eternal_a life_n therefore_o we_o be_v not_o justify_v by_o faith_n alone_o but_o by_o good_a work_n also_o be_v no_o good_a argue_v if_o the_o sequel_n be_v deny_v as_o it_o must_v be_v no_o wit_n of_o man_n can_v prove_v it_o and_o make_v it_o good_a they_o may_v be_v a_o condition_n of_o
