confutation_n of_o some_o erroneous_a opinion_n that_o be_v contradictory_n unto_o it_o as_o namely_o that_o of_o the_o papist_n in_o that_o they_o hold_v and_o affirm_v that_o god_n indeed_o foreappoint_v some_o to_o life_n and_o salvation_n from_o everlasting_a no_o doubt_n say_v they_o but_o how_o upon_o his_o foresight_n of_o their_o free_a will_n work_v together_o with_o his_o grace_n upon_o a_o foresight_n that_o their_o free_a will_n will_v cooperate_v and_o co-work_n with_o his_o grace_n to_o the_o do_v of_o good_a work_n and_o thereupon_o and_o in_o respect_n of_o that_o do_v god_n fore-appoint_a they_o to_o life_n and_o salvation_n a_o mere_a device_n and_o shift_n to_o delude_v silly_a people_n withal_o and_o likewise_o this_o truth_n now_o deliver_v meet_v with_o the_o erroneous_a opinion_n of_o the_o arminian_o and_o anabaptist_n for_o they_o be_v near_o one_o to_o the_o other_o the_o arminian_o hold_v and_o affirm_v that_o god_n do_v decree_v the_o choice_n of_o some_o to_o life_n and_o salvation_n not_o actual_o choose_v they_o but_o decree_v some_o to_o life_n and_o salvation_n upon_o the_o foresight_n of_o their_o faith_n with_o perseverance_n and_o so_o say_v the_o anabaptist_n it_o be_v upon_o the_o foresight_n of_o their_o faith_n and_o obedience_n to_o the_o gospel_n so_o that_o they_o jump_v together_o in_o the_o matter_n the_o one_o upon_o foresee_a faith_n and_o the_o other_o upon_o foresight_n of_o obedience_n to_o the_o gospel_n the_o lord_n do_v foresee_v that_o some_o will_v embrace_v the_o gospel_n some_o will_v believe_v in_o christ_n some_o will_v seek_v salvation_n by_o faith_n in_o christ_n upon_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n and_o thereupon_o do_v he_o decree_v the_o choice_n of_o some_o to_o life_n and_o salvation_n or_o at_o least_o say_v they_o mince_v the_o matter_n it_o be_v the_o rule_n which_o god_n do_v follow_v in_o his_o choice_n we_o will_v not_o say_v they_o stand_v upon_o it_o to_o be_v the_o cause_n but_o it_o be_v the_o rule_n a_o frivolous_a distinction_n to_o distinguish_v between_o cause_n and_o rule_v or_o cause_n and_o reason_n but_o for_o the_o opinion_n it_o be_v most_o false_a for_o if_o so_o be_v the_o foresight_n of_o faith_n and_o of_o the_o obedience_n to_o the_o gospel_n be_v the_o cause_n work_v god_n to_o decree_v the_o choice_n of_o some_o to_o life_n and_o salvation_n than_o this_o will_v sure_o follow_v that_o that_o which_o have_v only_o a_o be_v in_o time_n be_v the_o cause_n of_o that_o which_o be_v altogether_o before_o time_n then_o faith_n which_o have_v no_o be_v in_o nature_n but_o in_o time_n it_o shall_v be_v the_o cause_n work_v god_n to_o decree_v the_o choice_n of_o some_o to_o life_n and_o salvation_n before_o all_o time_n a_o most_o gross_a and_o absurd_a thing_n that_o the_o thing_n in_o time_n shall_v over-rule_v the_o decree_n of_o god_n from_o everlasting_a again_o if_o so_o be_v god_n fore-appointing_a of_o some_o to_o life_n and_o salvation_n have_v faith_n foresee_v for_o the_o cause_n of_o it_o what_o need_v then_o have_v the_o apostle_n to_o bring_v that_o question_n or_o make_v that_o objection_n that_o he_o do_v in_o the_o extend_v and_o reach_v they_o out_o to_o who_o he_o please_v according_a to_o his_o own_o purpose_n when_o he_o will_v and_o where_o he_o will_v and_o how_o it_o please_v he_o so_o that_o it_o be_v false_a and_o blasphemous_a to_o say_v that_o mercy_n be_v not_o natural_a and_o essential_a in_o god_n for_o the_o testimony_n of_o scripture_n contradict_v it_o in_o exod._n 34.6_o the_o lord_n in_o the_o world_n wonder_v not_o nor_o be_v not_o amaze_v forr_n these_o thing_n must_v come_v to_o pass_v and_o be_v fulfil_v and_o it_o argue_v a_o true_a and_o a_o sound_a faith_n to_o see_v through_o the_o thick_a mist_n of_o error_n and_o iniquity_n and_o abundance_n of_o evil_n the_o bright_a resplendent_a shine_a beam_n of_o the_o majesty_n and_o purity_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o we_o be_v to_o be_v so_o far_o from_o be_v offend_v at_o the_o combustion_n and_o uproar_n of_o the_o world_n as_o that_o we_o shall_v be_v strengthen_v so_o much_o the_o more_o and_o settle_a and_o ground_v in_o the_o holy_a word_n of_o god_n see_v god_n have_v reveal_v it_o in_o his_o word_n and_o foretell_v it_o long_o before_o as_o he_o say_v in_o hosea_n i_o will_v call_v they_o my_o people_n which_o be_v not_o my_o people_n and_o her_o belove_a which_o be_v not_o belove_v etc._n etc._n come_v we_o now_o to_o the_o word_n of_o the_o testimony_n itself_o in_o these_o two_o verse_n and_o herein_o the_o apostle_n do_v invert_v the_o order_n of_o the_o word_n of_o the_o prophet_n put_v that_o which_o be_v first_o last_o yea_o the_o apostle_n do_v something_o scope_n and_o meaning_n of_o the_o place_n be_v keep_v sound_n and_o entire_a without_o wrong_n change_n or_o alteration_n the_o preacher_n of_o the_o word_n must_v look_v unto_o it_o that_o they_o neither_o deprave_v nor_o corrupt_v the_o place_n of_o scripture_n that_o they_o do_v not_o cut_v they_o off_o and_o leave_v out_o something_o needful_a this_o be_v the_o sin_n of_o the_o devil_n in_o so_o wrong_a the_o sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n yet_o minister_n of_o the_o word_n they_o may_v allege_v and_o cite_v place_n of_o scripture_n with_o some_o alteration_n so_o they_o keep_v the_o sense_n safe_a sound_a and_o entire_a john_n 7.38_o he_o that_o believe_v in_o i_o as_o say_v the_o scripture_n out_o of_o his_o belly_n shall_v flow_v river_n of_o water_n where_o do_v the_o it_o concern_v the_o preacher_n of_o the_o word_n to_o be_v very_o well_o acquaint_v with_o the_o scope_n and_o drift_n of_o the_o scripture_n that_o howsoever_o they_o may_v miss_v of_o the_o word_n yet_o they_o must_v keep_v the_o sense_n entire_a and_o see_v that_o they_o do_v not_o swerve_v from_o the_o intent_n and_o purpose_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n of_o god_n in_o the_o text._n and_o as_o they_o must_v be_v careful_a that_o the_o place_n of_o scripture_n be_v fit_a and_o pertinent_a to_o the_o purpose_n they_o have_v in_o hand_n so_o also_o that_o the_o place_n they_o do_v allege_v be_v true_o understand_v and_o right_o apply_v according_a to_o the_o meaning_n of_o the_o word_n and_o then_o they_o be_v the_o true_a word_n of_o god_n and_o be_v a_o notable_a mean_n to_o beat_v down_o the_o strong_a hold_v of_o sin_n and_o of_o satan_n to_o pass_v by_o that_o come_v we_o now_o to_o the_o testimony_n itself_o record_v by_o the_o prophet_n and_o here_o allege_v by_o the_o apostle_n i_o will_v call_v they_o my_o people_n which_o be_v not_o my_o people_n and_o her_o belove_a which_o be_v not_o belove_v these_o word_n be_v a_o plain_a text_n and_o do_v evidence_n
