and_o shellfish_n etc._n etc._n so_o if_o he_o intend_v that_o by_o these_o influence_n they_o do_v natural_o or_o physical_o determine_v the_o will_n or_o have_v any_o direct_a dominion_n over_o humane_a counsel_n either_o in_o whole_a or_o in_o part_n either_o more_o or_o less_o he_o be_v in_o a_o error_n concern_v the_o concatenation_n of_o cause_n whereas_o he_o make_v not_o one_o chain_n but_o a_o innumerable_a number_n of_o chain_n i_o hope_v he_o speak_v hyperbolical_o and_o do_v not_o intend_v that_o they_o be_v actual_o infinite_a the_o difference_n be_v not_o material_a whether_o one_o or_o many_o so_o long_o as_o they_o be_v all_o join_v together_o both_o in_o the_o first_o link_n and_o likewise_o in_o the_o effect_n it_o serve_v to_o no_o end_n but_o to_o show_v what_o a_o shadow_n of_o liberty_n t._n h._n do_v fancy_n or_o rather_o what_o a_o dream_n of_o a_o shadow_n as_o if_o one_o chain_n be_v not_o sufficient_a to_o load_v poor_a man_n but_o he_o must_v be_v clog_v with_o innumerable_a chain_n this_o be_v just_a such_o another_o freedom_n as_o the_o turkish_a gallislave_n do_v enjoy_v but_o i_o admire_v that_o t._n h._n who_o be_v so_o verse_v in_o this_o question_n shall_v here_o confess_v that_o he_o understand_v not_o the_o difference_n between_o physical_a or_o natural_a and_o moral_a efficacy_n and_o much_o more_o that_o he_o shall_v affirm_v that_o outward_a object_n do_v determine_v voluntary_a agent_n by_o a_o natural_a efficacy_n no_o object_n no_o second_o agent_n angel_n or_o devil_n can_v determine_v the_o will_n of_o man_n natural_o but_o god_n alone_o in_o respect_n of_o his_o supreme_a dominion_n over_o all_o thing_n then_o the_o will_n be_v determine_v natural_o when_o god_n almighty_a beside_o his_o general_a influence_n whereupon_o all_o second_o cause_n do_v depend_v as_o well_o for_o their_o be_v as_o for_o their_o act_n do_v moreover_o at_o sometime_o when_o it_o please_v he_o in_o case_n extraordinary_a concur_v by_o a_o special_a influence_n and_o infuse_v something_o into_o the_o will_n in_o the_o nature_n of_o a_o act_n or_o a_o habit_n whereby_o the_o will_n be_v move_v and_o excite_v and_o apply_v to_o will_n or_o choose_v this_o or_o that_o then_o the_o will_n be_v determine_v moral_o when_o some_o object_n be_v propose_v to_o it_o with_o persuasive_a reason_n and_o argument_n to_o induce_v it_o to_o will_n where_o the_o determination_n be_v natural_a the_o liberty_n to_o suspend_v its_o act_n be_v take_v away_o from_o the_o will_n but_o not_o so_o where_o the_o determination_n be_v moral_a in_o the_o former_a case_n the_o will_n be_v determine_v extrinsecal_o in_o the_o latter_a case_n intrinsical_o the_o former_a produce_v a_o absolute_a necessity_n the_o latter_a only_o a_o necessity_n of_o supposition_n if_o the_o will_v do_v not_o suspend_v but_o assent_n than_o the_o act_n be_v necessary_a but_o because_o the_o will_n may_v suspend_v and_o not_o assent_v therefore_o it_o be_v not_o absolute_o necessary_a in_o the_o former_a case_n the_o will_n be_v move_v necessary_o and_o determinate_o in_o the_o latter_a free_o and_o indeterminate_o the_o former_a excitation_n be_v immediate_a the_o latter_a be_v mediate_v mediante_fw-la intellectu_fw-la and_o require_v the_o help_n of_o the_o understanding_n in_o a_o word_n so_o great_a a_o difference_n there_o be_v between_o natural_a and_o moral_a efficacy_n as_o there_o be_v between_o his_o opinion_n and_o i_o in_o this_o question_n there_o remain_v only_o the_o last_o dictate_v of_o 7._o that_o the_o last_o dictate_v of_o the_o understanding_n be_v not_o always_o absolute_a in_o itself_o nor_o conclusive_a to_o the_o will_n and_o when_o it_o be_v conclusive_a yet_o it_o produce_v no_o antecedent_n nor_o extrinsecall_v necessity_n i_o shall_v only_o add_v one_o thing_n more_o in_o present_a that_o by_o make_v the_o last_o judgement_n of_o right_a reason_n to_o be_v of_o no_o more_o weight_n than_o a_o single_a feather_n he_o wrong_v the_o understanding_n as_o well_o as_o he_o do_v the_o will_n the_o endeavour_n to_o deprive_v the_o will_n of_o its_o supreme_a power_n of_o application_n and_o to_o deprive_v the_o understanding_n of_o its_o supreme_a power_n of_o judicature_n and_o definition_n neither_o corporeal_a agent_n and_o object_n nor_o yet_o the_o sensitive_a appetite_n itself_o be_v a_o inferior_a faculty_n and_o affix_v to_o the_o organ_n of_o the_o body_n have_v any_o direct_a or_o immediate_a dominion_n or_o command_n over_o the_o rational_a will_n it_o be_v without_o the_o sphere_n of_o their_o activity_n all_o the_o access_n which_o they_o have_v unto_o the_o will_n be_v by_o the_o mean_n of_o the_o understanding_n sometime_o clear_a and_o sometime_o disturb_v and_o of_o reason_n either_o right_a or_o misinform_v without_o the_o help_n of_o the_o understanding_n all_o his_o second_o cause_n be_v not_o able_a of_o
