our_o clothes_n the_o nutriment_n of_o our_o body_n do_v bespeak_v a_o infinite_a rational_a communicative_a goodness_n that_o define_v these_o correspondency_n and_o have_v teach_v the_o creature_n those_o mutual_a motion_n for_o their_o own_o and_o each_o other_o good_a while_o they_o themselves_o know_v not_o what_o or_o why_o they_o do_v it_o 7._o from_o the_o former_a consideration_n it_o follow_v most_o evident_o that_o he_o be_v most_o just_a and_o that_o it_o be_v impossible_a he_o can_v be_v otherwise_o and_o this_o as_o it_o necessary_o result_v from_o the_o admission_n of_o his_o have_v certain_a instinct_n plant_v in_o they_o by_o their_o first_o creation_n which_o though_o they_o be_v not_o proper_o law_n but_o inclination_n to_o man_n as_o he_o come_v out_o of_o the_o hand_n of_o his_o maker_n with_o the_o impression_n of_o his_o image_n upon_o he_o have_v some_o conformity_n to_o the_o supreme_a justice_n without_o any_o reference_n to_o any_o command_n which_o compass_v they_o yet_o a_o wise_a statesman_n according_a to_o the_o convenience_n or_o exigence_n of_o the_o public_a can_v manage_v and_o order_v this_o ambition_n and_o the_o satisfaction_n thereof_o unto_o a_o high_a end_n which_o the_o other_o never_o so_o much_o as_o dream_v of_o as_o we_o therefore_o divide_v all_o being_n and_o cause_n into_o first_o and_o second_o so_o we_o thing_n be_v he_o will_v because_o he_o will_v his_o glory_n be_v a_o consequence_n of_o his_o work_n in_o the_o work_n not_o the_o ultimate_a end_n of_o his_o work_n because_o nothing_o that_o he_o make_v can_v contribute_v aught_o to_o his_o glory_n or_o happiness_n 2._o in_o respect_n of_o the_o thing_n produce_v the_o ordination_n of_o every_o particular_a thing_n to_o its_o particular_a end_n either_o in_o order_n to_o itself_o or_o to_o some_o thing_n else_o or_o both_o the_o intermediate_n end_v of_o all_o thing_n be_v different_a according_a to_o their_o several_a nature_n and_o the_o several_a dispensation_n of_o the_o divine_a will._n that_o this_o may_v be_v so_o be_v evident_a upon_o the_o consideration_n of_o that_o infiniteness_n of_o wisdom_n power_n and_o presence_n of_o the_o first_o cause_n which_o before_o be_v consider_v and_o that_o it_o must_v be_v so_o be_v likewise_o evident_a upon_o the_o consideration_n before_o express_v viz._n that_o the_o will_n of_o because_o this_o death_n of_o the_o prophet_n have_v no_o necessary_a connexion_n with_o all_o the_o cause_n that_o concur_v to_o it_o neither_o have_v the_o journey_n of_o the_o prophet_n any_o necessary_a connexion_n with_o the_o walk_n of_o the_o lion_n that_o they_o must_v needs_o meet_v the_o death_n of_o the_o prophet_n though_o it_o have_v a_o kind_n of_o natural_a connexion_n with_o fade_a of_o sensitive_n and_o assimilation_n of_o the_o nourishment_n to_o their_o own_o nature_n supply_v the_o decay_n thereof_o natural_a instinct_n of_o every_o species_n to_o avoid_v those_o thing_n place_n and_o food_n that_o be_v destructive_a provide_v for_o variety_n of_o season_n multiplication_n of_o their_o species_n and_o infinite_a the_o like_a which_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o that_o rule_n law_n or_o means_n that_o the_o first_o cause_n have_v put_v in_o they_o for_o the_o attain_v that_o end_n which_o he_o have_v put_v in_o they_o viz._n their_o preservation_n and_o perfection_n and_o this_o be_v the_o great_a wisdom_n as_o i_o may_v call_v it_o of_o the_o creature_n that_o it_o pursue_v that_o end_n by_o that_o law_n which_o the_o first_o cause_n have_v give_v it_o mankind_n have_v some_o thing_n in_o he_o common_a with_o other_o inferior_a being_n and_o in_o respect_n thereof_o have_v the_o same_o natural_a end_n viz._n the_o preservation_n of_o his_o subsistence_n by_o the_o same_o law_n of_o nature_n which_o he_o do_v and_o may_v and_o aught_o to_o preserve_v as_o other_o creature_n do_v but_o if_o he_o have_v a_o high_a degree_n of_o be_v than_o other_o creature_n then_o consequent_o he_o have_v these_o two_o thing_n different_a from_o other_o creature_n 1._o a_o high_a end_n than_o other_o creature_n plant_v in_o he_o by_o the_o first_o consist_v with_o this_o end_n for_o we_o be_v not_o to_o conceive_v so_o improvident_o of_o the_o first_o cause_n that_o he_o shall_v put_v a_o thing_n in_o such_o a_o degree_n of_o be_v that_o the_o themselves_o answerable_a to_o the_o degree_n of_o their_o be_v 3._o a_o motion_n or_o desire_n to_o the_o attain_n and_o conserve_n that_o perfection_n and_o consequent_o of_o their_o be_v which_o be_v the_o vessel_n wherein_o that_o
happiness_n viz._n that_o no_o temporal_a thing_n no_o carnal_a pleasure_n no_o contemplation_n of_o the_o creature_n be_v commensurate_a to_o the_o nature_n and_o duration_n of_o the_o soul_n which_o be_v the_o best_a part_n of_o man_n and_o consequent_o be_v not_o nor_o can_v be_v his_o end._n yet_o this_o though_o it_o take_v he_o off_o from_o the_o wrong_a way_n it_o set_v he_o not_o in_o the_o right_a way_n but_o leave_v he_o at_o a_o stand_n therefore_o 2._o the_o second_o impediment_n be_v the_o ignorance_n of_o the_o object_n of_o this_o happiness_n the_o want_n of_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n which_o be_v the_o only_a object_n of_o all_o our_o happiness_n the_o proof_n and_o demonstration_n whereof_o ensue_v by_o what_o have_v be_v before_o say_v it_o be_v evident_a 1._o that_o by_o the_o wise_a appointment_n of_o god_n every_o thing_n be_v ordain_v to_o a_o end_n to_o which_o it_o move_v 2._o that_o this_o end_n be_v such_o a_o good_a as_o be_v answerable_a to_o the_o perfection_n of_o the_o creature_n which_o move_v to_o it_o a_o mere_a natural_a agent_n move_v to_o a_o natural_a end_n a_o sensitive_a to_o a_o sensible_a good._n 3._o that_o the_o high_a perfection_n of_o the_o reasonable_a creature_n consist_v in_o his_o reasonable_a soul_n by_o which_o he_o be_v a_o large_a degree_n above_o the_o sensitive_n therefore_o to_o find_v out_o wherein_o that_o good_a consist_v that_o be_v the_o end_n of_o man_n we_o must_v take_v measure_n of_o the_o soul_n wherein_o consist_v man_n perfection_n and_o when_o or_o where_o we_o can_v find_v a_o good_a felicity_n it_o be_v as_o impossible_a to_o satisfy_v a_o spirit_n with_o these_o thing_n as_o it_o be_v to_o feed_v a_o body_n with_o a_o spirit_n they_o hold_v not_o a_o proportion_n or_o conformity_n one_o to_o another_o and_o from_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o in_o that_o small_a slender_a use_n that_o the_o soul_n make_v of_o the_o creature_n as_o it_o can_v enter_v into_o the_o soul_n till_o it_o be_v spiritualise_v in_o the_o species_n which_o be_v refine_v more_o and_o more_o the_o near_o they_o come_v to_o the_o soul_n first_o in_o the_o organ_n then_o in_o the_o fantasy_n so_o neither_o can_v the_o soul_n make_v use_v of_o they_o to_o any_o purpose_n be_v receive_v till_o by_o abstraction_n it_o have_v make_v they_o of_o the_o same_o nature_n with_o herself_o and_o from_o this_o disproportion_n between_o the_o soul_n and_o those_o external_a enjoyment_n do_v arise_v that_o unsatisfactoriness_n that_o come_v by_o they_o to_o the_o soul_n for_o though_o they_o be_v useful_a to_o the_o body_n and_o the_o outward_a man_n and_o therefore_o they_o be_v desirable_a by_o the_o soul_n itself_o in_o order_n to_o that_o end_n yet_o they_o reach_v not_o so_o far_o as_o the_o soul_n their_o end_n fall_v short_a of_o it_o and_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o the_o soul_n rest_v not_o in_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o they_o nay_o though_o it_o see_v not_o its_o proper_a end_n yet_o it_o find_v a_o nauseum_fw-la in_o the_o excess_n of_o these_o and_o therefore_o be_v restless_a and_o move_v from_o one_o pleasure_n to_o another_o and_o this_o be_v likewise_o the_o reason_n why_o every_o outward_a pleasure_n be_v great_a in_o the_o expectation_n than_o in_o the_o fruition_n because_o the_o imagination_n of_o the_o soul_n which_o be_v the_o creature_n that_o the_o soul_n form_n can_v bring_v it_o near_o to_o the_o soul_n than_o the_o creature_n when_o it_o be_v enjoy_v can_v come_v and_o this_o imagination_n as_o it_o do_v delude_v the_o soul_n so_o it_o likewise_o take_v off_o much_o of_o that_o content_a which_o may_v be_v lawful_o find_v and_o use_v in_o the_o creature_n it_o make_v the_o pursuit_n too_o eager_a and_o fruition_n flat_a in_o that_o it_o be_v over_o expect_v 2._o the_o soul_n of_o man_n be_v consequent_o immortal_a and_o its_o felicity_n can_v therefore_o consist_v in_o that_o which_o can_v be_v co-extended_n with_o it_o be_v there_o a_o good_a imaginable_a that_o in_o its_o own_o nature_n hold_v proportion_n with_o the_o value_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o yet_o be_v perishable_a it_o be_v impossible_a that_o in_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o this_o good_a can_v the_o felicity_n of_o the_o soul_n consist_v and_o that_o upon_o these_o reason_n 1._o because_o the_o duration_n of_o the_o soul_n be_v not_o divisible_a and_o successive_a take_v it_o apart_o from_o the_o body_n a_o temporary_a felicity_n will_v be_v no_o felicity_n it_o be_v true_a we_o measure_v out_o our_o time_n by_o parcel_n as_o year_n and_o week_n and_o day_n and_o hour_n and_o minute_n but_o the_o soul_n do_v not_o so_o for_o though_o the_o duration_n thereof_o be_v not_o simple_o indivisible_a as_o in_o the_o duration_n of_o eternity_n yet_o it_o be_v far_o more_o swift_a than_o we_o and_o so_o will_v be_v almost_o insensible_a of_o a_o temporary_a good_a though_o of_o long_a continuance_n 2._o because_o the_o determination_n of_o that_o good_a will_v consequent_o determine_v its_o felicity_n so_o it_o can_v be_v no_o perfect_a happiness_n 3._o the_o very_a enjoyment_n of_o a_o most_o perfect_a good_a that_o the_o soul_n look_v upon_o as_o determinable_a be_v in_o that_o very_a enjoyment_n mingle_v with_o a_o discontent_n grief_n and_o fear_v which_o be_v abundant_o sufficient_a to_o rob_v the_o soul_n of_o felicity_n in_o that_o very_a enjoyment_n when_o the_o soul_n shall_v be_v take_v up_o with_o such_o sad_a preapprehension_n and_o preexpectation_n as_o these_o i_o now_o enjoy_v a_o good_a answerable_a to_o my_o desire_n and_o that_o fill_v up_o every_o the_o least_o vacuity_n and_o crave_v of_o my_o will_n yet_o i_o foresee_v that_o it_o be_v not_o last_v a_o time_n must_v come_v when_o i_o must_v lose_v it_o and_o it_o will_v die_v under_o my_o hand_n and_o yet_o my_o immortal_a be_v shall_v have_v continuance_n to_o all_o eternity_n when_o my_o present_a enjoyment_n shall_v serve_v but_o to_o increase_v my_o emptiness_n and_o misery_n with_o the_o sense_n of_o what_o i_o have_v and_o lose_v this_o handwriting_n upon_o the_o wall_n be_v enough_o to_o turn_v the_o high_a enjoyment_n that_o be_v but_o temporary_a into_o bitterness_n in_o the_o very_a enjoyment_n much_o more_o those_o vain_a and_o thin_a pleasure_n of_o this_o world_n that_o never_o come_v near_o the_o soul_n but_o in_o a_o deceitful_a imagination_n so_o then_o to_o the_o constitution_n of_o true_a happiness_n for_o a_o immortal_a substance_n there_o be_v re-required_n a_o immortal_a good._n 3._o it_o must_v be_v a_o good_a divide_v in_o its_o own_o nature_n from_o the_o soul._n there_o can_v nothing_o be_v the_o end_n and_o supreme_a good_a to_o itself_o but_o the_o first_o cause_n which_o alone_o be_v self-sufficient_a and_o that_o be_v manifest_a in_o the_o motion_n of_o the_o soul_n for_o if_o itself_o be_v the_o end_n of_o itself_o it_o have_v its_o end_n and_o consequent_o will_v cease_v to_o move_v but_o it_o be_v evident_a that_o the_o soul_n be_v not_o a_o pure_a act_n but_o receptive_a of_o something_o distinct_a from_o itself_o to_o which_o it_o move_v as_o to_o its_o end_n and_o perfection_n 4._o it_o must_v be_v a_o true_a and_o real_a good_a for_o since_o the_o perfection_n of_o the_o soul_n consist_v in_o these_o two_o active_a faculty_n the_o understanding_n who_o object_n be_v truth_n and_o the_o will_n and_o the_o principal_a use_n of_o every_o faculty_n be_v in_o order_n to_o the_o supreme_a end_n of_o the_o soul_n which_o be_v his_o summum_fw-la bonum_fw-la it_o be_v necessary_a that_o that_o which_o be_v pursue_v by_o the_o will_n as_o good_a shall_v likewise_o be_v entertain_v by_o the_o understanding_n as_o true_a and_o the_o high_a perfection_n of_o the_o understanding_n be_v about_o the_o truth_n of_o that_o which_o be_v the_o supreme_a good_a because_o that_o truth_n be_v the_o supreme_a truth_n the_o truth_n of_o this_o goodness_n stand_v in_o opposition_n 1_o to_o that_o which_o seem_v to_o be_v good_a and_o be_v not_o at_o all_o such_o be_v mere_o imaginary_a and_o fantastical_a good_n when_o the_o soul_n work_v a_o imaginary_a good_a and_o then_o work_v itself_o into_o the_o belief_n of_o it_o 2._o to_o that_o which_o have_v a_o be_v seem_v to_o be_v good_a and_o be_v not_o 3._o to_o that_o which_o though_o it_o be_v good_a seem_v to_o be_v the_o supreme_a good_a but_o be_v not_o it_o must_v therefore_o be_v a_o intellectual_a real_a good._n 5._o it_o must_v
the_o compositum_fw-la yet_o it_o be_v clear_a that_o the_o tumultuousness_n or_o quietness_n of_o the_o mind_n do_v much_o conduce_v to_o the_o happiness_n or_o unhappiness_n of_o the_o compositum_fw-la that_o man_n that_o live_v content_o with_o 20._o l._n a_o year_n be_v happy_a than_o he_o that_o live_v as_o well_o with_o the_o same_o or_o a_o great_a portion_n but_o with_o a_o anxious_a trouble_a crave_v unsatisfied_a mind_n now_o when_o the_o soul_n true_o know_v and_o be_v true_o set_v upon_o his_o supreme_a end_n it_o know_v its_o duty_n and_o therefore_o be_v not_o idle_a it_o know_v the_o power_n of_o his_o maker_n therefore_o be_v not_o anxious_a and_o know_v the_o use_n and_o value_n of_o the_o creature_n and_o therefore_o value_v it_o no_o far_o than_o it_o be_v useful_a to_o its_o proper_a end_n it_o know_v the_o love_n and_o wisdom_n of_o his_o maker_n and_o therefore_o refer_v all_o to_o he_o as_o he_o that_o want_v neither_o power_n to_o provide_v favour_n and_o communion_n of_o god._n how_o far_o forth_o the_o soul_n separate_v be_v capable_a of_o its_o own_o nature_n of_o any_o new_a knowledge_n which_o it_o have_v not_o before_o in_o a_o angelical_a way_n or_o how_o far_o it_o be_v able_a to_o retain_v or_o improve_v those_o conception_n and_o species_n that_o it_o have_v here_o and_o whether_o it_o have_v a_o complete_a operation_n or_o what_o degree_n of_o fruition_n it_o have_v of_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n it_o be_v above_o our_o reach_n to_o determine_v only_o this_o we_o may_v conjecture_v that_o the_o soul_n be_v not_o place_v in_o that_o perfect_a degree_n of_o be_v and_o subsistence_n as_o be_v the_o angel_n in_o as_o much_o as_o it_o be_v make_v in_o order_n to_o a_o body_n by_o which_o in_o it_o it_o exercise_v its_o motion_n faculty_n and_o operation_n and_o therefore_o without_o all_o question_n when_o it_o shall_v hereafter_o be_v reunite_v to_o a_o most_o perfect_a spiritualised_a body_n indissoluble_o production_n of_o it_o for_o it_o be_v the_o same_o counsel_n that_o have_v make_v this_o necessary_a connexion_n between_o the_o cause_n and_o the_o effect_n that_o do_v predetermine_v the_o effect_n to_o be_v produce_v here_o then_o be_v conspicuous_a the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n that_o while_o his_o creature_n in_o who_o he_o have_v place_v a_o uniform_a course_n of_o work_v fulfil_v his_o will_n yet_o they_o keep_v their_o law_n of_o unformity_n and_o necessity_n 2._o voluntary_a and_o this_o be_v admirable_a that_o while_o voluntary_a agent_n do_v most_o necessary_o fulfil_v the_o counsel_n of_o god_n yet_o they_o do_v it_o without_o the_o least_o diminution_n of_o their_o freedom_n the_o jew_n do_v most_o free_o crucify_v christ_n yet_o it_o be_v by_o the_o predeterminate_a counsel_n of_o god_n pharaoh_n do_v most_o free_o refuse_v to_o let_v israel_n go_v yet_o almighty_a god_n tell_v he_o for_o this_o purpose_n have_v he_o raise_v he_o up_o to_o show_v his_o power_n upon_o he_o exod._n 9.16_o and_o from_o hence_o we_o may_v observe_v the_o reason_n why_o almighty_a god_n in_o all_o time_n have_v use_v rational_a way_n for_o the_o reduce_n of_o man_n to_o the_o obedience_n therefore_o must_v needs_o take_v up_o the_o high_a and_o choice_a desire_n to_o attain_v and_o keep_v he_o god_n be_v please_v to_o communicate_v himself_o to_o these_o desire_n his_o acceptation_n of_o they_o and_o intimate_v expression_n of_o love_n to_o his_o creature_n this_o as_o it_o be_v the_o high_a happiness_n and_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o creature_n so_o it_o can_v choose_v but_o engage_v the_o soul_n to_o return_v love_n and_o obedience_n to_o the_o will_n of_o his_o god_n especial_o when_o all_o those_o engagement_n to_o obedience_n be_v likewise_o present_v to_o the_o soul_n that_o it_o owe_v its_o be_v to_o he_o that_o his_o will_n be_v most_o righteous_a and_o fit_a to_o be_v obey_v and_o this_o obedience_n arise_v from_o these_o principle_n of_o love_n to_o god_n as_o it_o be_v without_o all_o hypocrisy_n so_o it_o be_v without_o all_o pain_n and_o tediousness_n for_o it_o do_v arise_v from_o a_o inward_a and_o active_a principle_n and_o be_v act_v by_o most_o obedient_a and_o active_a faculty_n man_n take_v no_o less_o delight_n in_o his_o obedience_n which_o be_v the_o fruit_n of_o his_o love_n and_o duty_n to_o his_o maker_n than_o he_o do_v in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o beauty_n and_o goodness_n of_o his_o maker_n which_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o that_o love_n and_o duty_n and_o as_o the_o act_n of_o the_o natural_a appetite_n upon_o a_o proper_a and_o seasonable_a object_n when_o they_o exceed_v not_o their_o proportion_n be_v delightful_a so_o the_o act_n of_o the_o rational_a appetite_n consist_v in_o love_n and_o obedience_n to_o god_n wherein_o they_o can_v not_o exceed_v their_o just_a proportion_n be_v the_o delight_n of_o the_o soul_n his_o holiness_n consist_v in_o the_o return_n to_o his_o maker_n of_o love_n and_o congenite_fw-la with_o though_o not_o essential_a to_o his_o be_v this_o be_v only_o obedience_n to_o the_o will_n of_o his_o maker_n in_o all_o inferior_a creature_n we_o see_v a_o kind_n of_o inclination_n or_o instinct_n to_o follow_v the_o rule_n of_o their_o nature_n this_o conduct_n they_o to_o that_o degree_n of_o felicity_n and_o beauty_n which_o be_v commensurate_a to_o their_o nature_n herein_o though_o they_o follow_v the_o will_n of_o their_o creator_n in_o the_o law_n of_o their_o creation_n it_o be_v not_o proper_o obedience_n nor_o that_o instinct_n proper_o a_o law_n the_o latter_a be_v only_o give_v and_o the_o former_a only_o perform_v by_o such_o a_o creature_n as_o have_v liberty_n and_o choice_n and_o consequent_o knowledge_n and_o understanding_n without_o which_o it_o be_v impossible_a to_o have_v the_o other_o man_n alone_a of_o all_o visible_a creature_n be_v endue_v with_o both_o and_o so_o fit_v to_o receive_v a_o law_n and_o to_o obey_v it_o be_v thus_o fit_v he_o have_v a_o double_a engagement_n of_o obedience_n viz._n of_o duty_n and_o of_o profit_n 1._o of_o duty_n he_o receive_v his_o be_v from_o his_o maker_n and_o that_o be_v furnish_v with_o happiness_n this_o be_v a_o infinite_a and_o boundless_a engagement_n of_o duty_n even_o to_o the_o utmost_a of_o his_o be_v 2._o of_o profit_n or_o advantage_n this_o stock_n of_o happiness_n that_o be_v but_o now_o free_o confer_v upon_o he_o be_v put_v into_o his_o hand_n under_o this_o condition_n if_o he_o break_v his_o condition_n he_o forfeit_v and_o that_o most_o just_o his_o happiness_n but_o yet_o if_o this_o law_n be_v beyond_o the_o capacity_n of_o his_o nature_n than_o there_o may_v be_v some_o excuse_n of_o his_o disobedience_n but_o as_o this_o happiness_n be_v law_n of_o man_n creation_n 2._o whence_o the_o obligation_n of_o it_o 3._o what_o the_o sanction_n or_o penalty_n 1._o what_o the_o law_n be_v obedience_n be_v the_o duty_n of_o man_n to_o the_o will_n of_o his_o creator_n the_o law_n be_v the_o specification_n of_o that_o will_n in_o this_o or_o that_o particular_a command_n or_o prohibition_n the_o law_n that_o god_n give_v to_o man_n therefore_o be_v of_o two_o kind_n 1._o such_o as_o do_v bear_v a_o kind_n of_o proportion_n or_o convenience_n to_o the_o nature_n of_o man_n such_o be_v all_o those_o moral_n dictate_v which_o we_o call_v law_n of_o nature_n as_o keep_v of_o faith_n worship_v god_n and_o most_o if_o not_o all_o those_o precept_n in_o the_o decalogue_n be_v but_o expression_n of_o these_o law_n these_o though_o they_o have_v no_o obligation_n but_o by_o the_o command_n of_o god_n yet_o they_o have_v a_o kind_n of_o congruity_n with_o the_o very_a nature_n of_o man._n 2._o such_o as_o though_o they_o have_v their_o original_a justice_n of_o obligation_n upon_o the_o same_o ground_n as_o the_o former_a have_v viz._n the_o subordination_n of_o the_o rational_a creature_n to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n yet_o in_o hoc_fw-la individuo_fw-la there_o do_v not_o appear_v that_o congruity_n of_o nature_n of_o man_n with_o this_o command_n such_o be_v the_o command_n of_o forbear_v the_o forbid_a fruit_n and_o answerable_a to_o this_o in_o all_o time_n god_n have_v be_v please_v to_o give_v command_n of_o these_o two_o several_a kind_n gen._n 9.14_o at_o the_o same_o time_n god_n forbid_v murder_n which_o hold_v congruity_n with_o humane_a nature_n and_o eat_v of_o blood_n which_o do_v not_o appear_v to_o hold_v such_o congruity_n gen._n 17.2_o to_o abraham_n walk_v before_o i_o and_o be_v perfect_a which_o be_v a_o rule_n of_o natural_a justice_n and_o a_o command_n of_o circumcision_n the_o reason_n whereof_o do_v not_o so_o natural_o appear_v so_o to_o the_o jew_n not_o only_o the_o moral_a law_n but_o divers_a ceremonial_a rite_n which_o have_v no_o such_o necessary_a conformity_n to_o reason_n the_o reason_n of_o this_o and_o why_o the_o first_o man_n obedience_n be_v try_v upon_o this_o precept_n be_v because_o that_o in_o the_o obedience_n to_o such_o a_o command_n be_v give_v the_o clear_a and_o most_o free_a obedience_n to_o god_n for_o we_o hereby_o acknowledge_v his_o freedom_n to_o command_v what_o he_o please_v and_o our_o just_a obligation_n to_o obey_v what_o he_o command_v mere_o because_o he_o command_v now_o because_o it_o be_v impossible_a that_o any_o inquire_v but_o certain_a it_o be_v that_o in_o as_o much_o as_o the_o obligation_n of_o this_o precept_n do_v not_o arise_v from_o any_o intrinsical_a conformity_n of_o the_o thing_n to_o humane_a nature_n there_o be_v a_o express_a injunction_n and_o command_n of_o god_n in_o it_o but_o as_o touch_v the_o former_a though_o they_o be_v discover_v to_o man_n to_o be_v the_o will_n of_o god_n yet_o they_o do_v hold_v a_o kind_n of_o intrinsical_v proportion_n and_o conformity_n to_o the_o very_a nature_n of_o men._n and_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o though_o by_o the_o fall_n a_o general_a spring_n of_o those_o tear_n be_v a_o spring_n of_o life_n and_o comfort_n 3._o contrary_n to_o that_o good_a which_o we_o lose_v by_o it_o 1._o our_o conformity_n to_o the_o mind_n and_o will_n of_o god_n be_v our_o perfection_n and_o the_o near_a our_o conformity_n come_v to_o his_o will_n the_o more_o perfect_a be_v our_o be_v sin_n which_o be_v a_o violation_n of_o that_o will_n of_o he_o spoil_n and_o disorder_v this_o conformity_n and_o so_o it_o interrupt_v that_o inherent_a good_a which_o otherwise_o will_v be_v in_o we_o 2._o as_o it_o destroy_v our_o conformity_n to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n and_o so_o spoil_v we_o of_o our_o inherent_a good_a so_o it_o interrupt_v that_o communicative_a good_a that_o influence_n of_o life_n and_o comfort_n which_o we_o have_v from_o god_n it_o remove_v we_o to_o a_o great_a distance_n from_o he_o it_o displace_v we_o from_o that_o position_n in_o which_o and_o by_o which_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n shall_v be_v derive_v and_o convey_v to_o we_o we_o be_v by_o it_o out_o of_o that_o covenant_n that_o promise_v which_o god_n have_v make_v with_o his_o creature_n we_o be_v by_o it_o without_o the_o comfortable_a presence_n weaken_v this_o corruption_n to_o put_v in_o a_o little_a wormwood_n into_o thy_o sweet_a cup_n that_o thou_o may_v take_v it_o with_o more_o moderation_n and_o not_o so_o greedy_o to_o throw_v some_o act_n of_o his_o understanding_n and_o will_n and_o these_o be_v immutable_a as_o well_o as_o his_o essence_n for_o indeed_o they_o be_v but_o notional_o divide_v from_o it_o in_o we_o our_o will_n be_v one_o thing_n and_o our_o will_v another_o but_o that_o be_v inconsistent_a with_o the_o simplicity_n of_o the_o first_o cause_n hence_o it_o be_v that_o as_o his_o essence_n so_o his_o will_n be_v immutable_a he_o will_v nothing_o now_o but_o what_o he_o ever_o will_v and_o understand_v from_o eternity_n what_o he_o now_o know_v for_o eternity_n have_v neither_o now_o nor_o then_o in_o it_o 2._o the_o emanant_fw-la act_n those_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o the_o execution_n of_o that_o immutable_a will_n these_o be_v subject_a to_o mutation_n but_o without_o the_o least_o mutation_n the_o duration_n of_o the_o first_o cause_n be_v the_o duration_n of_o a_o indivisible_a be_v and_o consequent_o hold_v not_o proportion_n with_o succession_n and_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o it_o be_v but_o our_o gross_a conception_n that_o do_v imagine_v any_o part_n of_o eternity_n past_a or_o any_o part_n to_o come_v or_o that_o time_n do_v divide_v the_o fore_a part_n of_o eternity_n from_o the_o future_a part_n of_o eternity_n it_o be_v a_o indivisible_a permanent_a duration_n nothing_o past_a nothing_o future_a but_o the_o same_o fix_a instant_n consequent_o the_o act_n of_o the_o divine_a will_n always_o one_o always_o present_a this_o knowledge_n be_v too_o wonderful_a for_o i_o chap._n ii_o of_o the_o work_n of_o god_n of_o creation_n and_o providence_n thus_o far_o have_v we_o proceed_v in_o those_o inquiry_n which_o rectify_v reason_n suggest_v to_o we_o concern_v the_o nature_n of_o the_o first_o cause_n now_o we_o consider_v the_o emanant_fw-la act_n of_o his_o will_n and_o power_n upon_o thing_n without_o he_o for_o from_o this_o consideration_n that_o he_o be_v the_o first_o be_v it_o likewise_o follow_v that_o all_o thing_n beside_o he_o must_v needs_o have_v their_o be_v and_o subsistence_n from_o he_o this_o fall_v into_o these_o two_o conclusion_n 1._o that_o all_o thing_n beside_o himself_o have_v their_o be_v from_o he_o 2._o that_o all_o thing_n be_v direct_v and_o govern_v unto_o their_o several_a end_n by_o he_o touch_v the_o former_a viz._n that_o all_o thing_n beside_o he_o have_v their_o original_n be_v from_o he_o that_o be_v a_o necessary_a consequent_a of_o the_o admission_n of_o a_o first_o be_v for_o whatsoever_o be_v not_o first_o there_o be_v a_o time_n when_o it_o be_v not_o for_o otherwise_o it_o must_v be_v eternal_a the_o contrary_a whereof_o be_v before_o evidence_v that_o than_o which_o once_o be_v not_o and_o now_o be_v and_o consequent_o have_v a_o beginning_n of_o its_o be_v can_v not_o have_v it_o from_o itself_o for_o nothing_o have_v a_o power_n or_o activity_n of_o itself_o to_o produce_v any_o thing_n therefore_o that_o second_o be_v must_v needs_o
