of_o the_o fault_n and_o the_o extent_n of_o the_o punishment_n but_o yet_o some_o be_v apt_a to_o think_v that_o subject_n may_v be_v acquit_v of_o their_o duty_n to_o their_o prince_n by_o suffer_v as_o well_o as_o by_o do_v and_o when_o they_o have_v call_v the_o one_o passive_a obedience_n and_o the_o other_o active_a they_o say_v the_o prince_n be_v obey_v and_o have_v his_o due_n and_o government_n then_o the_o doctrine_n of_o nonresistance_n and_o s._n paul_n text_n for_o it_o may_v be_v bring_v forth_o to_o awe_n and_o scare_v they_o to_o terrify_v and_o affrighten_v they_o to_o allay_v their_o heat_n and_o fury_n and_o to_o bring_v they_o to_o a_o more_o discreet_a temper_n to_o the_o exercise_n of_o christian_a patience_n and_o modesty_n upon_o this_o account_n many_o have_v much_o commend_v the_o labour_n of_o the_o church_n of_o england_n divine_v in_o the_o late_a time_n of_o contrast_n and_o opposition_n of_o plotting_n and_o counter-plottings_a because_o they_o do_v much_o good_a in_o support_v of_o the_o government_n and_o for_o the_o restrain_v of_o the_o madness_n of_o people_n and_o towards_o the_o prevention_n of_o intestine_a broil_n and_o civil_a war._n but_o yet_o see_v the_o preach_a or_o not_o preach_v upon_o that_o subject_n be_v matter_n of_o prudence_n and_o depend_v upon_o time_n and_o season_n and_o many_o by_o consideration_n from_o whence_o it_o may_v either_o do_v good_a or_o harm_n it_o must_v be_v confess_v that_o sermon_n of_o that_o sort_n be_v not_o every_o where_o receive_v with_o the_o like_a favour_n and_o the_o soul_n of_o king_n that_o they_o too_o may_v be_v rescue_v from_o the_o damn_v sin_n of_o oppression_n and_o it_o be_v throw_v our_o with_o a_o under_o correction_n that_o if_o king_n will_v venture_v against_o so_o many_o text_n upon_o god_n pardon_n to_o enlarge_v their_o power_n the_o people_n may_v as_o well_o venture_v against_o one_o to_o preserve_v their_o right_n beside_o it_o be_v somewhat_o sharp_o and_o angry_o say_v by_o the_o man_n who_o have_v be_v entrust_v in_o parliament_n and_o in_o the_o management_n of_o public_a affair_n that_o see_v the_o clergy_n challenge_v spiritual_a power_n by_o virtue_n of_o the_o text_n and_o will_v not_o allow_v king_n or_o parliament_n to_o limit_v abridge_v or_o straiten_v their_o right_n they_o may_v well_o leave_v the_o temporal_a power_n to_o the_o text_n too_o which_o be_v the_o law_n of_o the_o land_n and_o the_o proper_a interpreter_n of_o it_o which_o be_v a_o parliament_n and_o not_o presume_v dogmatical_o to_o they_o but_o yet_o whatever_o they_o say_v it_o be_v manifest_a that_o the_o preacher_n design_v no_o base_a or_o mean_a thing_n to_o betray_v their_o country_n their_o religion_n or_o the_o law_n with_o courage_n and_o spirit_n enough_o in_o proper_a time_n and_o place_n appear_v in_o the_o behalf_n of_o the_o law_n and_o the_o establish_a religion_n both_o against_o popery_n and_o against_o
