of_o he_o as_o a_o distinct_a person_n in_o the_o trinity_n but_o as_o god_n essential_o one_o and_o the_o same_o in_o be_v and_o substance_n with_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n to_o be_v every_o where_o to_o fill_v all_o thing_n to_o be_v present_a with_o they_o or_o indistant_a from_o they_o always_o equal_o exist_v in_o the_o power_n of_o a_o infinite_a be_v be_v a_o inseparable_a property_n of_o the_o divine_a nature_n as_o such_o but_o this_o inhabitation_n be_v personal_a or_o what_o belong_v unto_o he_o distinct_o as_o the_o holy_a ghost_n beside_o it_o be_v voluntary_a and_o that_o which_o may_v not_o have_v be_v whence_o it_o be_v the_o subject_a of_o a_o free_a promise_n of_o god_n and_o whole_o depend_v on_o a_o free_a act_n of_o the_o will_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n himself_o second_o it_o be_v not_o a_o presence_n by_o virtue_n of_o a_o metonymical_a denomination_n or_o a_o expression_n of_o the_o cause_n for_o the_o effect_n that_o be_v intend_v the_o meaning_n of_o this_o promise_n the_o spirit_n shall_v dwell_v in_o you_o be_v not_o he_o shall_v work_v gracious_o in_o you_o for_o this_o he_o can_v without_o any_o especial_a presence_n be_v essential_o every_o where_o he_o can_v work_v where_o and_o how_o he_o please_v without_o any_o especial_a presence_n but_o it_o be_v the_o spirit_n himself_o that_o be_v promise_v and_o his_o presence_n in_o a_o especial_a manner_n and_o a_o especial_a manner_n of_o that_o presence_n he_o shall_v be_v in_o you_o and_o dwell_v in_o you_o as_o we_o shall_v see_v the_o only_a enquiry_n in_o this_o matter_n be_v whether_o the_o holy_a spirit_n himself_o be_v promise_v unto_o believer_n or_o only_o his_o grace_n which_o we_o shall_v immediate_o inquire_v into_o three_o the_o dwell_n of_o the_o person_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n in_o the_o person_n of_o believer_n of_o what_o nature_n soever_o it_o be_v do_v not_o effect_v a_o personal_a union_n between_o they_o that_o which_o we_o call_v a_o personal_a union_n be_v the_o union_n of_o divers_a nature_n in_o the_o same_o person_n and_o there_o can_v be_v but_o one_o person_n by_o virtue_n of_o this_o union_n such_o be_v the_o contradiction_n that_o the_o son_n of_o god_n can_v be_v hypostatical_o unite_v unto_o more_o than_o one_o for_o if_o they_o be_v more_o than_o one_o they_o must_v be_v more_o person_n than_o one_o and_o many_o person_n can_v be_v hypostatical_o unite_v for_o that_o be_v to_o be_v one_o person_n and_o no_o more_o there_o may_v be_v a_o manifold_a union_n mystical_a and_o moral_a or_o divers_a of_o many_o person_n but_o a_o personal_a union_n there_o can_v be_v of_o any_o thing_n but_o of_o distinct_a nature_n and_o as_o the_o son_n of_o god_n can_v not_o assume_v many_o person_n so_o suppose_v that_o humane_a nature_n which_o he_o do_v unite_v to_o himself_o to_o have_v be_v a_o person_n that_o be_v to_o have_v have_v a_o distinct_a subsistence_n of_o its_o own_o antecedent_n unto_o its_o union_n and_o there_o can_v have_v be_v no_o personal_a union_n between_o it_o and_o the_o son_n of_o god_n for_o the_o son_n of_o god_n be_v a_o distinct_a person_n and_o if_o the_o humane_a nature_n have_v be_v so_o too_o there_o will_v have_v be_v two_o person_n still_o and_o so_o no_o personal_a union_n nor_o can_v it_o be_v say_v that_o although_o the_o humane_a nature_n of_o christ_n be_v a_o person_n in_o itself_o yet_o it_o cease_v so_o to_o be_v upon_o its_o union_n with_o the_o divine_a and_o so_o two_o person_n be_v conjoin_v and_o compound_v into_o one_o for_o if_o ever_o humane_a nature_n have_v in_o any_o instance_n a_o personal_a subsistence_n of_o its_o own_o it_o can_v be_v separate_v from_o it_o without_o the_o destruction_n and_o annihilation_n of_o the_o individual_a for_o to_o suppose_v otherwise_o be_v to_o make_v it_o to_o continue_v what_o it_o be_v and_o not_o what_o it_o be_v for_o it_o be_v what_o it_o be_v distinct_a
grace_n to_o wrest_v these_o expression_n unto_o a_o low_a mean_a figurative_a signification_n and_o i_o be_o persuade_v that_o it_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o faith_n of_o the_o catholic_n church_n which_o they_o can_v comprehend_v and_o that_o some_o evil_a consequence_n may_v ensue_v upon_o the_o admittance_n of_o it_o although_o they_o can_v say_v what_o they_o be_v yet_o it_o be_v with_o they_o all_o even_o a_o article_n of_o faith_n that_o the_o holy_a ghost_n dwell_v in_o the_o church_n that_o be_v they_o that_o true_o believe_v and_o herein_o have_v they_o a_o apprehension_n of_o such_o a_o personal_a presence_n of_o he_o as_o they_o can_v conceive_v this_o therefore_o be_v so_o express_o so_o frequent_o affirm_v in_o the_o scripture_n and_o the_o comfort_n of_o the_o church_n which_o depend_v thereon_o be_v singular_a and_o eminent_a it_o be_v unto_o i_o a_o important_a article_n of_o evangelical_n truth_n 3._o although_o all_o the_o principal_a act_n of_o the_o holy_a his_o indwelling_n distinguish_v from_o all_o his_o evangelical_n operation_n of_o grace_n as_o the_o well_o be_v distinct_a from_o the_o stream_n that_o flow_v from_o it_o and_o as_o it_o be_v natural_a and_o easy_a for_o a_o spring_n of_o live_v water_n to_o bubble_v up_o and_o put_v forth_o refresh_v stream_n so_o it_o belong_v unto_o the_o consolation_n of_o believer_n to_o know_v how_o easy_a it_o be_v unto_o the_o holy_a spirit_n how_o ready_a he_o be_v on_o the_o account_n of_o his_o gracious_a inhabitation_n to_o carry_v on_o and_o perfect_v the_o work_n of_o grace_n holiness_n be_v here_o dead_a to_o the_o world_n and_o as_o dead_a in_o the_o world_n a_o life_n that_o will_v issue_v in_o eternal_a glory_n but_o no_o such_o thing_n appear_v no_o lustre_n of_o it_o be_v cast_v abroad_o into_o the_o eye_n of_o man_n true_a say_v the_o apostle_n for_o it_o be_v hide_v with_o christ_n in_o god_n it_o be_v so_o both_o in_o its_o cause_n nature_n operation_n and_o means_n of_o preservation_n but_o by_o this_o hide_a life_n it_o be_v that_o they_o be_v difference_v from_o the_o perish_a world_n and_o it_o will_v not_o be_v deny_v as_o i_o suppose_v that_o this_o difference_n be_v real_a and_o great_a for_o those_o who_o believe_v do_v enjoy_v the_o especial_a love_n and_o favour_n of_o god_n whereas_o those_o who_o do_v not_o be_v under_o the_o curse_n and_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n abide_v on_o they_o they_o be_v alive_a unto_o god_n but_o these_o be_v dead_a in_o trespass_n and_o sin_n and_o if_o man_n will_v not_o believe_v that_o there_o be_v so_o inexpressible_a a_o difference_n between_o they_o in_o this_o world_n they_o will_v be_v force_v to_o confess_v it_o at_o the_o last_o day_n when_o the_o decretory_a sentence_n of_o come_v you_o heavenly_a gift_n which_o he_o will_v impart_v unto_o no_o other_o and_o indeed_o on_o this_o one_o hinge_v depend_v the_o whole_a case_n of_o that_o assurance_n which_o believer_n be_v capable_a of_o if_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n dwell_v in_o we_o we_o be_v he_o but_o if_o any_o man_n have_v not_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n he_o be_v none_o of_o he_o rom._n 8_o 9_o hereon_o alone_o depend_v the_o determination_n of_o our_o especial_a relation_n unto_o god_n by_o this_o therefore_o do_v god_n seal_v believer_n and_o therein_o give_v they_o assurance_n of_o his_o love_n and_o this_o be_v but_o yet_o in_o both_o place_n god_n convince_v she_o of_o her_o mistake_n and_o that_o indeed_o her_o complaint_n be_v but_o a_o fruit_n of_o unbelief_n and_o so_o it_o be_v usual_a in_o great_a distress_n when_o person_n be_v so_o swallow_v up_o with_o sorrow_n or_o overwhelm_v with_o anguish_n that_o they_o be_v not_o sensible_a of_o the_o work_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n in_o their_o we_o understand_v aright_o the_o nature_n of_o spiritual_a consolation_n and_o value_v they_o both_o as_o sufficient_a and_o satisfactory_a we_o be_v not_o like_a to_o enjoy_v they_o at_o least_o not_o to_o be_v make_v sensible_a of_o they_o many_o under_o their_o trouble_n suppose_v there_o be_v no_o comfort_n but_o in_o their_o removal_n and_o know_v not_o of_o any_o relief_n in_o their_o sorrow_n but_o in_o the_o take_n away_o of_o their_o cause_n at_o best_a they_o value_v any_o outward_a relief_n before_o internal_a support_v and_o refreshment_n such_o person_n can_v never_o receive_v the_o consolation_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n unto_o any_o refresh_a experience_n to_o look_v for_o all_o our_o comfort_n from_o he_o to_o value_v those_o thing_n wherein_o his_o consolation_n do_v consist_v above_o all_o earthly_a enjoyment_n to_o wait_v upon_o he_o in_o the_o use_n of_o all_o mean_n for_o the_o receive_n of_o his_o instance_n of_o love_n and_o grace_n to_o be_v fervent_a in_o prayer_n for_o his_o presence_n with_o we_o and_o the_o manifestation_n of_o his_o grace_n be_v require_v in_o all_o those_o towards_o who_o he_o discharge_v this_o office_n and_o whilst_o we_o be_v find_v in_o these_o way_n of_o holy_a obedience_n and_o dependence_n we_o shall_v find_v he_o a_o comforter_n and_o that_o for_o ever_o these_o thing_n be_v observable_a in_o the_o office_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n in_o general_a as_o he_o be_v the_o comforter_n of_o the_o church_n and_o the_o manner_n of_o his_o discharge_n thereof_o what_o be_v further_a considerable_a unto_o the_o guidance_n of_o our_o faith_n and_o the_o participation_n of_o consolation_n with_o respect_n hereunto_o will_v be_v evident_a in_o the_o declaration_n of_o the_o particular_n that_o belong_v
