notwithstanding_o any_o former_a conquest_n gain_v against_o or_o over_o they_o though_o thou_o have_v mortify_v a_o 100_o and_o a_o 100_o lusting_n of_o the_o flesh_n though_o thou_o have_v keep_v under_o thy_o sin_n never_o so_o long_o if_o after_o all_o thou_o sit_v still_o they_o will_v become_v thy_o master_n and_o they_o will_v strangle_v thy_o soul_n they_o will_v stab_v thou_o to_o thy_o heart_n and_o carry_v thou_o to_o perdition_n so_o will_v all_o thy_o former_a pain_n and_o war_a be_v lose_v be_v as_o if_o it_o have_v not_o be_v yea_o i_o say_v it_o will_v be_v worse_o than_o lose_v for_o thy_o corruption_n will_v grow_v the_o more_o violent_a as_o a_o stream_n that_o be_v stop_v a_o while_n thy_o lust_n will_v become_v the_o more_o furious_a as_o a_o enemy_n that_o have_v be_v of_o it_o beat_n and_o at_o length_n get_v the_o upper_a hand_n he_o be_v the_o worse_a he_o be_v the_o more_o cruel_a and_o god_n will_v punish_v the_o more_o sore_o all_o who_o dont_fw-fr continue_v but_o let_v fall_v the_o war_n against_o their_o lust_n if_o any_o think_v this_o not_o true_a but_o shall_v bless_v themselves_o in_o what_o be_v past_a and_o grow_v secure_a slothful_a careless_a and_o take_v their_o ease_n give_v their_o corruption_n leave_v even_o to_o work_v as_o it_o will_v and_o put_v themselves_o under_o the_o foot_n of_o their_o flesh_n let_v such_o read_v and_z reading_z tremble_n those_o word_n of_o the_o apostle_n peter_n in_o his_o 2_o epistle_n 2._o chap._n 19_o and_o 20_o v._o while_n they_o promise_v other_o liberty_n they_o themselves_o be_v the_o servant_n of_o corruption_n for_o of_o who_o a_o man_n be_v overcome_v of_o the_o same_o be_v he_o bring_v in_o bondage_n for_o if_o after_o they_o have_v escape_v the_o pollution_n of_o the_o shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o this_o body_n of_o death_n wherefore_o this_o be_v needful_a to_o be_v declare_v and_o to_o be_v urge_v whatever_o our_o fin_n be_v the_o spirit_n of_o the_o lord_n can_v lust_n therefore_o the_o best_a of_o those_o man_n be_v note_v to_o have_v live_v under_o the_o dominion_n of_o some_o destroy_a corruption_n covetousness_n ambition_n envy_n or_o such_o like_a they_o write_v of_o one_o democritus_n he_o put_v out_o his_o eye_n because_o he_o can_v not_o look_v without_o lust_a but_o do_v that_o mortify_v his_o sin_n no_o though_o his_o eye_n be_v out_o his_o corruption_n continue_v still_o within_o there_o be_v two_o great_a thing_n only_o to_o be_v know_v by_o the_o gospel_n the_o one_o be_v how_o we_o may_v have_v peace_n with_o god_n be_v accept_v of_o he_o and_o justify_v in_o his_o sight_n the_o gospel_n only_o hold_v forth_o justify_v righteousness_n the_o other_o be_v this_o i_o be_o now_o upon_o how_o we_o may_v get_v our_o sin_n destroy_v and_o so_o our_o heart_n purify_v use_v 4._o you_o may_v make_v use_n of_o this_o truth_n by_o way_n of_o trial_n whether_o you_o have_v the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n in_o you_o or_o no_o the_o great_a one_o answer_n if_o it_o be_v in_o you_o it_o work_v in_o you_o it_o help_v and_o assist_v you_o and_o that_o in_o mortify_v your_o sin_n have_v your_o sin_n deadly_a wound_n be_v there_o any_o thing_n do_v real_o and_o considerable_o towards_o the_o ruine_v they_o if_o so_o than_o you_o have_v the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n in_o you_o because_o this_o be_v to_o be_v do_v only_o through_o 6._o let_v the_o six_o use_n be_v to_o convince_v all_o such_o of_o great_a error_n who_o think_v they_o can_v mortify_v their_o sin_n of_o themselves_o or_o that_o any_o thing_n they_o can_v do_v can_v be_v effectual_a to_o the_o mortification_n thereof_o without_o the_o spirit_n it_o be_v one_o of_o the_o grand_a error_n of_o the_o antichristian_a party_n to_o think_v that_o their_o vow_n fasting_n penance_n etc._n etc._n can_v mortify_v sin_n and_o they_o give_v themselves_o divers_a of_o they_o to_o severe_a course_n and_o put_v other_o on_o to_o such_o and_o such_o thing_n as_o effectual_a mean_n to_o slay_v their_o lust_n without_o look_v after_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n for_o its_o assistance_n wherein_o too_o too_o many_o who_o oppose_v popery_n be_v too_o like_a to_o papist_n as_o in_o other_o thing_n for_o be_v there_o not_o many_o who_o hear_v the_o absolute_a necessity_n of_o have_v their_o sin_n
sin_n keep_v these_o three_o thing_n in_o your_o mind_n first_o though_o sin_n have_v overcome_v you_o it_o have_v not_o overcome_v the_o spirit_n in_o you_o have_v he_o please_v he_o can_v have_v prevent_v its_o have_v the_o mastery_n a_o sure_a truth_n but_o not_o think_v of_o in_o discouragement_n second_o you_o be_v never_o so_o master_v by_o sin_n but_o the_o spirit_n can_v easy_o sudden_o help_v you_o to_o recover_v your_o ground_n and_o to_o trample_v under_o foot_n that_o sin_n which_o have_v get_v you_o under_o it_o be_v as_o easy_a with_o the_o spirit_n to_o subdue_v your_o sin_n as_o it_o be_v before_o it_o prevail_v yea_o he_o will_v he_o sure_o will_v help_v you_o to_o repent_v which_o when_o you_o do_v in_o truth_n than_o you_o get_v the_o day_n of_o sin_n repent_v if_o hearty_a be_v overcome_v and_o call_v to_o mind_n have_v you_o not_o oft_o after_o the_o prevail_a of_o this_o or_o that_o sin_n soon_o recover_v yourselves_o through_o the_o spirit_n when_o even_o as_o beat_v out_o of_o the_o field_n have_v you_o not_o regain_v your_o ground_n and_o sometime_o be_v strong_a than_o before_o and_o more_o successful_a in_o your_o combat_n three_o the_o spirit_n will_v never_o suffer_v you_o at_o any_o time_n to_o be_v worsted_n by_o any_o sin_n but_o for_o some_o wise_a end_n with_o respect_n both_o to_o your_o good_a and_o its_o glory_n first_o your_o good_a though_o to_o be_v foil_v by_o a_o base_a lust_n be_v not_o good_a the_o effect_n of_o it_o may_v be_v good_a and_o the_o spirit_n will_v not_o permit_v it_o but_o that_o he_o intend_v your_o good_a thereby_o even_o your_o sin_n get_v the_o upperhand_n of_o you_o the_o spirit_n intend_v to_o make_v use_n of_o for_o the_o subdue_a it_o by_o humble_v you_o by_o make_v the_o blood_n of_o christ_n more_o precious_a to_o you_o by_o cause_v you_o to_o hate_v your_o sin_n the_o more_o etc._n etc._n second_o with_o respect_n to_o the_o spirit_n be_v own_o glory_n we_o by_o be_v master_v dishonour_v the_o spirit_n so_o far_o as_o it_o be_v our_o fault_n which_o it_o always_o be_v one_o way_n or_o other_o too_o much_o but_o the_o spirit_n will_v thereby_o take_v occasion_n to_o glorify_v itself_o by_o beat_v down_o that_o sin_n which_o have_v so_o strong_o wrought_v in_o we_o to_o the_o throw_v we_o down_o the_o spirit_n power_n against_o sin_n and_o its_o love_n to_o we_o will_v be_v the_o more_o manifest_v it_o come_v in_o to_o our_o relief_n when_o we_o as_o it_o be_v under_o the_o foot_n of_o such_o a_o corruption_n ready_a to_o have_v our_o throat_n cut_v or_o heart_n stab_v thereby_o when_o one_o come_v in_o to_o the_o help_n of_o a_o friend_n who_o be_v beat_v out_o of_o the_o field_n or_o just_a upon_o be_v kill_v at_o his_o strong_a enemy_n foot_n and_o recover_v the_o field_n for_o he_o lift_v he_o up_o and_o strengthen_v he_o to_o drive_v out_o and_o destroy_v that_o his_o enemy_n this_o be_v more_o honour_n to_o such_o a_o one_o and_o evidence_v his_o valour_n strength_n and_o friendship_n more_o than_o it_o will_v if_o he_o have_v be_v present_a to_o help_v before_o use_v 13._o when_o you_o pray_v for_o any_o that_o their_o sin_n may_v be_v destroy_v as_o you_o shall_v make_v this_o prayer_n for_o your_o relation_n friend_n and_o other_o then_o pray_v for_o the_o spirit_n for_o they_o see_v through_o it_o your_o prayer_n for_o they_o only_o can_v be_v answer_v it_o be_v a_o great_a argument_n of_o the_o carnality_n of_o christian_n if_o they_o pray_v that_o the_o body_n of_o their_o child_n and_o other_o relation_n may_v be_v heal_v when_o sick_a they_o pray_v not_o for_o the_o heal_n of_o their_o soul_n or_o if_o they_o ask_v any_o outward_a gift_n for_o they_o and_o not_o the_o spirit_n it_o be_v well_o if_o some_o will_v give_v few_o blow_n and_o angry_a provoke_a word_n to_o their_o child_n and_o put_v up_o more_o and_o more_o fervent_a prayer_n for_o they_o and_o it_o speak_v to_o little_a understanding_n of_o the_o gospel_n when_o any_o pray_v for_o themselves_o or_o other_o that_o they_o may_v sin_v less_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o power_n of_o sin_n but_o ask_v not_o the_o spirit_n to_o help_v they_o all_o your_o prayer_n must_v be_v according_a to_o scripture_n for_o that_o you_o seek_v in_o that_o way_n the_o word_n declare_v god_n use_v to_o grant_v it_o and_o in_o all_o counsel_n and_o exhortation_n which_o at_o any_o time_n you_o give_v to_o any_o concern_v their_o get_n rid_v of_o their_o sin_n be_v sure_a to_o instruct_v they_o in_o and_o mind_n they_o of_o this_o tell_v they_o this_o and_o the_o other_o sin_n in_o they_o it_o must_v be_v mortify_v but_o through_o the_o spirit_n otherwise_o you_o do_v but_o teach_v they_o to_o skin_n over_o the_o sore_a &_o keep_v the_o disease_n inward_a but_o not_o to_o heal_v it_o which_o may_v be_v more_o dangerous_a than_o if_o it_o be_v leave_v to_o break_v forth_o as_o it_o be_v with_o some_o disease_n when_o they_o strike_v out_o they_o be_v not_o so_o dangerous_a as_o when_o keep_v all_o within_o the_o break_v forth_o of_o sin_n may_v help_v to_o conviction_n whereas_o if_o keep_v in_o unmortified_a one_o be_v ready_a to_o say_v or_o think_v what_o do_v i_o who_o can_v lay_v any_o thing_n to_o my_o charge_n he_o be_v clean_o to_o appearance_n but_o not_o cleanse_v from_o his_o filthiness_n or_o stir_v up_o any_o to_o mortify_v their_o sin_n and_o not_o through_o the_o spirit_n but_o in_o their_o own_o strength_n you_o teach_v they_o so_o to_o sin_n you_o put_v they_o upon_o a_o impossibility_n your_o counsel_n may_v do_v more_o hurt_n than_o good_a how_o can_v you_o expect_v it_o shall_v be_v bless_v by_o god_n when_o it_o be_v not_o according_a to_o his_o word_n and_o no_o wonder_n if_o the_o person_n to_o who_o it_o be_v give_v sight_n it_o put_v it_o off_o with_o this_o i_o can_v i_o be_o not_o able_a etc._n etc._n i_o believe_v satan_n may_v move_v man_n against_o some_o sin_n in_o their_o own_o strength_n to_o seek_v freedom_n from_o they_o that_o he_o may_v weary_a and_o vex_v they_o and_o make_v they_o desperate_a as_o i_o think_v it_o not_o improble_v that_o he_o may_v rather_o further_o than_o hinder_v some_o in_o the_o prevent_v the_o break_n forth_o of_o this_o or_o that_o sin_n outward_o that_o so_o they_o may_v bless_v themselves_o as_o if_o all_o be_v well_o with_o they_o and_o not_o seek_v to_o have_v their_o sin_n true_o mortify_v and_o kill_v in_o the_o root_n through_o the_o spirit_n use_v 14._o see_v what_o cause_n you_o have_v to_o be_v humble_a very_o humble_a though_o you_o do_v get_v great_a victory_n over_o your_o sin_n there_o be_v even_o nothing_o a_o soul_n be_v more_o subject_a to_o be_v lift_v up_o by_o than_o this_o when_o he_o begin_v to_o get_v the_o better_a of_o those_o sin_n which_o have_v much_o prevail_v in_o he_o when_o he_o feel_v a_o strong_a corruption_n weaken_v but_o let_v we_o remember_v the_o angel_n who_o never_o sin_v be_v exceed_v humble_a rev._n 7.11_o john_n see_v all_o the_o angel_n stand_v round_o about_o the_o throne_n and_o fall_v on_o their_o face_n and_o worship_v god_n sure_o then_o we_o who_o have_v sin_v great_o who_o do_v sin_n daily_o though_o we_o sin_n much_o less_o than_o we_o do_v or_o than_o other_o do_v shall_v always_o fall_v on_o our_o face_n before_o god_n we_o shall_v be_v very_o humble_a before_o he_o i_o and_o before_o man_n too_o the_o rather_o because_o whatever_o we_o have_v do_v against_o sin_n to_o any_o purpose_n have_v neither_o be_v by_o our_o own_o power_n nor_o understanding_n but_o by_o the_o strength_n and_o wisdom_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n if_o a_o man_n do_v a_o great_a work_n by_o another_o help_n have_v he_o any_o cause_n to_o boast_v if_o one_o shall_v heal_v a_o great_a and_o sore_a disease_n by_o another_o prescription_n or_o write_v well_o have_v his_o hand_n guide_v by_o another_o have_v he_o reason_n to_o glory_n ps_n 44.3_o their_o own_o arm_n do_v not_o save_v they_o but_o thy_o right_a hand_n and_o thy_o arm_n so_o not_o your_o power_n but_o the_o power_n of_o god_n spirit_n have_v bring_v under_o your_o sin_n and_o save_v you_o from_o they_o wherefore_o all_o the_o glory_n be_v due_a to_o he_o you_o shall_v be_v as_o humble_a as_o if_o there_o be_v nothing_o do_v we_o read_v of_o a_o crown_n of_o life_n and_o glory_n promise_v to_o they_o who_o overcome_v how_o so_o not_o because_o they_o deserve_v it_o by_o their_o overcome_a therefore_o when_o saint_n shall_v be_v crown_v they_o will_v ascribe_v all_o the_o glory_n unto_o god_n and_o to_o jesus_n christ_n by_o who_o spirit_n they_o have_v be_v make_v victorious_a

8.14_o for_o say_v he_o as_o many_o as_o be_v lead_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n they_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n for_o that_o be_v for_o this_o reason_n it_o must_v be_v so_o that_o if_o we_o through_o the_o spirit_n mortify_v the_o deed_n of_o the_o body_n we_o shall_v live_v because_o we_o so_o do_v be_v lead_v by_o the_o spirit_n which_o ever_o lead_v soul_n lead_v by_o it_o to_o life_n sure_o live_v the_o fountain_n of_o life_n will_v give_v life_n the_o best_a all_o life_n to_o his_o child_n and_o those_o who_o he_o make_v his_o child_n be_v therefore_o so_o make_v by_o he_o that_o they_o may_v live_v in_o he_o to_o he_o and_o with_o he_o for_o ever_o as_o christ_n faith_n god_n be_v not_o the_o god_n of_o the_o dead_a but_o of_o the_o live_n so_o he_o be_v not_o the_o father_n of_o the_o dead_a but_o of_o the_o live_n only_o of_o such_o to_o who_o he_o do_v and_o will_v give_v life_n all_o his_o child_n shall_v have_v life_n from_o he_o he_o will_v be_v their_o life_n sin_n and_o your_o be_v at_o any_o time_n master_v hy_z it_o sadden_fw-mi your_o heart_n as_o real_o and_o more_o than_o affliction_n sickness_n cause_v sadness_n neh._n 2.2_o why_o be_v thy_o countenance_n sad_a see_v thou_o be_v not_o sick_a so_o do_v other_o affliction_n but_o nothing_o sadden_v one_o who_o be_v intent_n and_o hearty_o engage_v in_o war_n so_o much_o as_o the_o prevail_a and_o the_o like_a this_o be_v a_o good_a demonstration_n that_o you_o mortify_v your_o sin_n through_o the_o spirit_n and_o the_o more_o if_o you_o can_v say_v the_o very_o stir_v and_o move_v of_o sin_n in_o you_o sadn_v you_o heart_n though_o it_o do_v not_o outward_o show_v itself_o and_o be_v know_v to_o none_o but_o god_n alone_o three_o the_o more_o sin_n be_v mortify_v in_o any_o be_v they_o the_o dear_a to_o you_o or_o the_o more_o you_o perceive_v any_o be_v careful_a and_o watchful_a against_o sin_n do_v your_o heart_n go_v forth_o the_o more_o in_o love_n and_o affection_n to_o they_o it_o may_v be_v the_o less_o this_o or_o that_o sin_n appear_v in_o another_o which_o be_v contrary_a to_o your_o temper_n humour_n or_o interest_n the_o more_o you_o may_v love_v he_o and_o yet_o be_v under_o the_o power_n of_o your_o sin_n but_o if_o your_o affection_n be_v draw_v out_o to_o other_o according_a as_o you_o perceive_v they_o to_o be_v engage_v against_o all_o their_o sin_n this_o speak_v well_o and_o the_o sign_n be_v the_o clear_a if_o you_o do_v in_o your_o heart_n esteem_v and_o rejoice_v in_o such_o who_o have_v get_v a_o great_a conquest_n over_o their_o sin_n than_o you_o have_v yet_o attain_v to_o four_o it_o be_v a_o hopeful_a evidence_n if_o you_o have_v much_o tenderness_n towards_o such_o who_o be_v struggle_v and_o strive_v against_o their_o sin_n when_o you_o see_v they_o sometime_o foil_v thereby_o yet_o it_o appear_v that_o they_o do_v wrestle_v against_o their_o sin_n your_o heart_n be_v full_a of_o pity_n towards_o they_o you_o have_v a_o tender_a respect_n to_o they_o and_o bear_v they_o upon_o your_o heart_n before_o god_n when_o any_o be_v see_v to_o be_v favourer_n of_o their_o sin_n and_o manifest_a that_o they_o nourish_v or_o countenance_v a_o lust_n than_o your_o heart_n be_v offend_v and_o rise_v against_o they_o upon_o that_o account_n but_o for_o those_o who_o be_v enemy_n to_o their_o sin_n these_o you_o compassionate_a this_o speak_v you_o know_v what_o it_o be_v to_o fight_v against_o sin_n and_o that_o the_o spirit_n act_v you_o therein_o again_o it_o be_v a_o good_a mark_n if_o you_o have_v strong_a breathe_n after_o the_o motion_n of_o the_o spirit_n if_o you_o long_o much_o for_o its_o move_n in_o ordinance_n and_o that_o in_o order_n to_o the_o destroy_v your_o corruption_n o_o that_o the_o holy_a mighty_a spirit_n will_v move_v and_o work_v in_o this_o and_o the_o other_o duty_n that_o my_o sin_n may_v have_v some_o deadly_a blow_n thereby_o and_o it_o this_o be_v one_o
