therefore_o for_o the_o better_a further_a of_o they_o in_o the_o way_n to_o a_o godly_a life_n i_o will_v by_o that_o occasion_n lie_v forth_o some_o of_o they_o which_o hinder_v both_o but_o chief_o i_o will_v show_v how_o the_o poor_a child_n of_o god_n be_v hold_v back_o and_o so_o become_v more_o offensive_a and_o give_v such_o help_n as_o i_o can_v against_o the_o same_o for_o that_o be_v the_o point_n which_o i_o propound_v in_o this_o treatise_n to_o acquaint_v the_o reader_n with_o and_o first_o to_o say_v somewhat_o general_o before_o i_o proceed_v he_o that_o faithful_o use_v the_o daily_a direction_n set_v down_o before_o or_o the_o like_a danger_n shall_v be_v furnish_v daily_o with_o the_o munition_n that_o a_o christian_n shall_v need_v against_o his_o great_a enemy_n and_o as_o i_o have_v say_v shall_v find_v rest_n to_o his_o soul_n daily_o which_o otherwise_o be_v not_o to_o be_v find_v nor_o enjoy_v constant_o of_o any_o neither_o the_o beauty_n and_o felicity_n of_o a_o godly_a life_n in_o any_o sort_n possess_v as_o it_o may_v for_o though_o i_o dream_v of_o no_o perfection_n in_o this_o life_n yet_o he_o that_o walk_v in_o this_o royal_a way_n shall_v not_o doubt_v where_o he_o be_v and_o whether_o he_o be_v out_o of_o his_o way_n as_o other_o shall_v from_o time_n to_o time_n he_o shall_v be_v accompany_v throughout_o the_o day_n and_o from_o day_n to_o day_n with_o faith_n hope_n love_n humility_n meekness_n righteousness_n uprightness_n patience_n temperancy_n somewhat_o arm_v against_o trouble_n have_v the_o word_n according_a to_o the_o measure_n of_o his_o knowledge_n and_o faith_n ready_a to_o guide_v he_o what_o to_o follow_v and_o what_o to_o refuse_v now_o therefore_o it_o may_v seem_v needless_a to_o say_v any_o be_v discourage_v and_o set_v further_o back_o but_o as_o i_o have_v say_v of_o the_o part_n already_o with_o how_o much_o ado_n they_o shall_v be_v practise_v so_o i_o say_v much_o more_o of_o the_o whole_a that_o see_v it_o be_v a_o chain_a up_o of_o the_o unruly_a thought_n and_o desire_n of_o the_o heart_n it_o will_v at_o the_o first_o seem_v the_o more_o difficult_a but_o although_o they_o escape_v that_o first_o plunge_n i_o mean_v not_o to_o renounce_v and_o cast_v off_o the_o practice_n of_o it_o altogether_o through_o the_o difficulty_n and_o hardness_n which_o seem_v to_o be_v in_o it_o but_o will_v conceive_v hope_n that_o god_n will_v strengthen_v they_o to_o abide_v constant_o therein_o which_o be_v a_o great_a conquest_n yet_o they_o must_v know_v that_o there_o will_v fall_v out_o very_a many_o let_v to_o hinder_v and_o hold_v they_o back_o one_o time_n or_o other_o and_o one_o way_n or_o other_o to_o make_v the_o doctrine_n which_o shall_v direct_v they_o without_o fruit_n unto_o they_o the_o devil_n as_o i_o have_v say_v will_v lay_v sundry_a block_n in_o their_o way_n to_o hinder_v they_o from_o go_v forward_o in_o and_o after_o this_o course_n of_o live_v by_o faith_n daily_o beside_o these_o there_o be_v some_o which_o desire_v to_o please_v god_n from_o their_o heart_n though_o not_o acquaint_v with_o any_o direction_n how_o to_o be_v guide_v but_o come_v far_o behind_o they_o help_v we_o must_v therefore_o seek_v how_o to_o prop_v up_o and_o bring_v on_o they_o which_o be_v thus_o weak_a as_o well_o as_o give_v rule_n to_o the_o strong_a and_o endeavour_n to_o bring_v they_o by_o little_a and_o little_a to_o this_o estate_n as_o well_o as_o teach_v the_o other_o how_o to_o keep_v in_o the_o good_a course_n which_o they_o have_v attain_v to_o final_o we_o must_v in_o a_o wise_a and_o tender_a regard_n of_o their_o frailty_n as_o forgetfulness_n earthly_a mindedness_n way_n coldness_n slothfulness_n also_o of_o their_o ignorance_n and_o other_o want_v of_o experience_n teach_v they_o as_o god_n have_v teach_v we_o how_o to_o rise_v when_o they_o be_v fall_v &_o to_o come_v into_o the_o way_n when_o by_o occasion_n they_o be_v go_v out_o that_o thus_o they_o may_v not_o be_v too_o much_o dismay_v by_o their_o infirmity_n but_o rather_o strong_o encourage_v to_o have_v better_a acquaintance_n with_o the_o life_n repent_v that_o they_o be_v so_o ignorant_a before_o and_o that_o so_o long_a time_n and_o that_o they_o drink_v up_o the_o draff_n of_o unsavourie_a puddle_n even_o deceitful_a pleasure_n when_o they_o may_v have_v drink_v of_o the_o sweet_a cistern_n which_o be_v able_a to_o refresh_v their_o soul_n with_o the_o water_n of_o life_n and_o although_o there_o be_v many_o doubt_n before_o they_o be_v settle_v in_o this_o persuasion_n &_o assure_v of_o better_a delight_n yet_o they_o be_v no_o soon_o resolve_v of_o their_o salvation_n change_v and_o what_o liberty_n they_o have_v by_o christ_n whereby_o they_o be_v make_v happy_a which_o how_o it_o be_v attain_v have_v be_v show_v in_o the_o former_a treatise_n but_o so_o soon_o be_v their_o evil_a heart_n and_o affection_n change_v so_o far_o as_o the_o judgement_n be_v enlighten_v and_o they_o contrary_o affect_v to_o that_o sin_n which_o they_o like_v before_o as_o see_v now_o cause_v sufficient_a why_o they_o shall_v do_v so_o to_o rebuke_v for_o omit_v it_o through_o sloth_n and_o unwillingness_n if_o by_o no_o other_o reason_n yet_o by_o the_o practice_n of_o some_o of_o the_o devout_a sort_n in_o popery_n who_o although_o they_o serve_v god_n superstitious_o yet_o they_o observe_v their_o hour_n appoint_v to_o they_o after_o their_o blind_a manner_n have_v only_o a_o confuse_a and_o deceivable_a hope_n to_o provoke_v in_o the_o morning_n as_o soon_o as_o they_o be_v up_o to_o be_v range_v abroad_o in_o the_o world_n and_o according_a to_o their_o delight_n deal_n and_o occasion_n to_o be_v carry_v after_o they_o either_o in_o vanity_n of_o mind_n and_o lightness_n or_o in_o unquietness_n contention_n quarrel_v and_o worldliness_n mind_v little_a for_o the_o most_o part_n but_o thing_n earthly_a and_o enter_v after_o this_o manner_n into_o the_o day_n do_v for_o the_o most_o part_n go_v further_o from_o god_n all_o the_o day_n after_o for_o this_o cause_n the_o holy_a ghost_n have_v teach_v they_o that_o they_o shall_v prevent_v these_o daily_a inconvenience_n by_o take_v up_o their_o mind_n and_o heart_n to_o far_o better_a use_n that_o be_v to_o say_v that_o after_o their_o awake_n with_o god_n they_o shall_v if_o it_o may_v be_v repair_v to_o god_n more_o solemn_o which_o be_v do_v by_o meditation_n of_o god_n power_n mercy_n etc._n etc._n by_o thankfulness_n for_o benefit_n receive_v and_o promise_v by_o free_v themselves_o from_o guiltiness_n of_o god_n wrath_n by_o confess_v their_o sin_n and_o pray_v for_o the_o benefit_n of_o forgiveness_n and_o for_o grace_n in_o the_o day_n against_o the_o evil_n thereof_o and_o for_o good_a government_n throughout_o the_o same_o that_o they_o be_v well_o season_v thus_o in_o the_o morning_n they_o may_v retain_v the_o a_o heavenly_a estate_n thereby_o if_o we_o will_v frequent_v it_o yea_o although_o we_o appoint_v some_o especial_a time_n thereunto_o yet_o shall_v we_o be_v turn_v from_o muse_v on_o good_a thing_n to_o wander_a and_o shall_v hardly_o fasten_v on_o any_o good_a matter_n have_v yet_o certain_a principal_a point_n concern_v our_o estate_n to_o set_v we_o on_o work_n therein_o so_o many_o trifle_a be_v not_o chase_v away_o of_o noisome_a and_o perilous_a thought_n and_o desire_n as_o a_o swarm_n of_o bee_n about_o a_o man_n ear_n be_v solicit_v and_o offer_v themselves_o unto_o us._n now_o then_o see_v the_o case_n so_o stand_v who_o do_v not_o see_v what_o need_v there_o be_v of_o some_o good_a help_n to_o keep_v our_o soul_n from_o annoyance_n at_o such_o time_n solitariness_n and_o not_o only_o so_o but_o also_o to_o stir_v up_o ourselves_o unto_o the_o do_n of_o such_o duty_n as_o we_o shall_v see_v to_o concern_v we_o most_o that_o so_o we_o may_v make_v this_o solitary_a part_n of_o our_o life_n which_o be_v not_o small_a to_o be_v suitable_a and_o correspondent_a unto_o the_o rest_n and_o for_o some_o plain_a and_o certain_a direction_n herein_o we_o may_v consider_v the_o thing_n which_o we_o be_v occupy_v about_o in_o solitariness_n solitariness_n now_o we_o know_v that_o all_o matter_n which_o go_v through_o our_o hand_n or_o head_n while_o we_o be_v out_o of_o company_n be_v either_o simple_o holy_a or_o unholy_a or_o thing_n indifferent_a now_o our_o own_o necessity_n and_o christian_a wisdom_n will_v teach_v about_o which_o of_o all_o these_o we_o have_v most_o cause_n to_o be_v occupy_v and_o let_v we_o not_o be_v slack_a and_o negligent_a to_o mark_v and_o observe_v that_o but_o let_v our_o circumspect_a care_n and_o watchfulness_n which_o must_v always_o accompany_v we_o ever_o foresee_v that_o for_o without_o it_o we_o shall_v do_v nothing_o well_o and_o therefore_o if_o in_o journey_v walk_v sit_v still_o or_o lie_v in_o our_o bed_n etc._n god_n our_o mortality_n they_o etc._n etc._n or_o enjoy_v the_o liberty_n of_o talk_v with_o our_o god_n by_o prayer_n thanksgiving_n read_v rejoice_v in_o he_o etc._n etc._n or_o if_o we_o have_v any_o other_o necessary_a duty_n to_o be_v do_v as_o we_o shall_v be_v able_a when_o we_o be_v from_o our_o call_n let_v that_o be_v go_v about_o and_o if_o it_o be_v object_v that_o it_o be_v a_o hard_a matter_n thus_o to_o do_v i_o must_v needs_o say_v it_o will_v be_v hard_a to_o have_v our_o heart_n thus_o at_o commandment_n when_o we_o be_v by_o ourselves_o especial_o for_o such_o as_o can_v read_v but_o yet_o let_v we_o consider_v again_o that_o we_o can_v be_v better_a occupy_v what_o do_v i_o say_v better_o nay_o we_o can_v hardly_o be_v otherwise_o occupy_v without_o sin_n and_o this_o advice_n for_o the_o redeem_n of_o the_o time_n when_o we_o be_v alone_o as_o long_o as_o it_o be_v the_o counsel_n of_o the_o lord_n that_o we_o shall_v thus_o gain_v it_o from_o evil_a i_o be_o not_o move_v what_o they_o say_v against_o it_o who_o neither_o use_v their_o solitariness_n thus_o but_o as_o though_o thought_n be_v free_a give_v their_o heart_n liberty_n to_o roave_v and_o range_v any_o where_o sure_o i_o be_o we_o can_v be_v too_o provident_a and_o careful_a that_o way_n and_o the_o best_a follow_v
this_o rule_n slough_o enough_o by_o reason_n of_o the_o untowardness_n which_o remain_v in_o they_o and_o the_o infinite_a occasion_n which_o do_v provoke_v they_o and_o yet_o the_o fruit_n will_v answer_v the_o labour_n that_o shall_v be_v bestow_v for_o if_o we_o shall_v with_o this_o vigilancy_n hold_v in_o our_o corrupt_a heart_n and_o hunt_v out_o and_o scare_v away_o the_o assault_n of_o the_o devil_n on_o every_o side_n as_o by_o the_o wisdom_n which_o god_n have_v give_v we_o we_o shall_v we_o able_a to_o do_v we_o shall_v never_o suffer_v they_o to_o carry_v we_o forth_o in_o any_o ill_a course_n or_o way_n but_o in_o stead_n thereof_o procure_v great_a liberty_n and_o freedom_n from_o such_o servitude_n yea_o if_o we_o will_v be_v thus_o circumspect_a and_o watchful_a in_o affirm_v then_o that_o hundred_o fold_n speak_v of_o in_o the_o gospel_n for_o one_o that_o be_v that_o whosoever_o forsake_v aught_o for_o christ_n sake_n 19.29_o it_o be_v that_o which_o he_o can_v allow_v shall_v receive_v even_o here_o a_o hundred_o time_n more_o contentation_n peace_n and_o comfort_n than_o he_o shall_v have_v have_v by_o follow_v his_o will_n and_o desire_v therein_o etc._n certainty_n they_o which_o will_v not_o be_v contentious_a i_o trust_v shall_v easy_o be_v answer_v answer_n to_o who_o this_o i_o say_v for_o answer_v much_o like_a as_o i_o say_v to_o they_o who_o think_v it_o too_o hard_a and_o let_v it_o be_v well_o weigh_v that_o there_o be_v no_o time_n wherein_o we_o shall_v be_v alone_o in_o which_o one_o of_o these_o three_o shall_v not_o be_v necessary_a or_o wherein_o any_o other_o thing_n beside_o almost_o shall_v be_v tolerable_a or_o allowable_a for_o what_o time_n of_o our_o solitariness_n can_v there_o be_v wherein_o we_o shall_v not_o have_v some_o lawful_a thing_n and_o that_o which_o be_v indifferent_a to_o think_v of_o about_o our_o family_n our_o cross_n or_o other_o business_n and_o to_o prevent_v danger_n imminent_a to_o remove_v or_o ease_n trouble_v present_a or_o some_o other_o such_o way_n to_o dispose_v of_o matter_n for_o our_o peace_n and_o for_o the_o good_a of_o other_o or_o wherein_o we_o shall_v not_o have_v cause_n to_o bewail_v some_o infirmity_n which_o oppress_v we_o or_o to_o cast_v with_o ourselves_o what_o a_o heap_n and_o dunghill_n of_o corruption_n be_v lodge_v within_o we_o and_o complain_v of_o it_o and_o to_o see_v and_o know_v it_o better_o or_o wherein_o we_o shall_v not_o have_v just_a cause_n to_o break_v out_o into_o the_o praise_n of_o god_n or_o some_o such_o like_o pass_v the_o time_n about_o some_o holy_a matter_n as_o have_v be_v say_v whereof_o there_o be_v so_o great_a variety_n and_o store_n i_o speak_v to_o those_o which_o have_v understanding_n to_o judge_v discreet_o and_o to_o who_o nothing_o that_o i_o say_v shall_v be_v harsh_a or_o unsavoury_a as_o have_v receive_v from_o god_n a_o wise_a and_o understand_a heart_n to_o discern_v and_o a_o promise_n of_o strength_n and_o therefore_o sufficient_a encouragement_n to_o do_v his_o will_n in_o this_o part_n of_o their_o life_n ready_o and_o glad_o rather_o than_o to_o desire_v with_o earthly_a mind_a person_n to_o range_v after_o noisome_a and_o unlawful_a liberty_n indeed_o i_o do_v not_o deny_v but_o that_o as_o we_o carry_v flesh_n about_o we_o which_o be_v a_o burden_n to_o weigh_v we_o down_o so_o we_o shall_v never_o discharge_v this_o duty_n nor_o so_o pure_o follow_v this_o direction_n for_o the_o well_o take_v up_o the_o time_n when_o we_o be_v alone_o as_o be_v that_o they_o be_v say_v to_o press_v man_n down_o that_o by_o mean_n of_o they_o they_o can_v with_o such_o cheerfulness_n and_o fruit_n live_v unto_o god_n wherein_o to_o be_v direct_v this_o may_v shall_v do_v well_o while_o we_o see_v so_o many_o in_o calamity_n but_o it_o can_v be_v deny_v but_o that_o their_o estate_n either_o of_o the_o desolate_a beyond_o the_o sea_n in_o many_o country_n or_o of_o the_o distress_a one_o among_o we_o do_v little_a touch_n or_o come_v near_o we_o whereby_o as_o our_o prayer_n be_v weak_a which_o be_v make_v in_o their_o behalf_n so_o be_v the_o other_o kindred_n acquaintance_n familiar_n family_n etc._n etc._n neither_o of_o purpose_n to_o order_v our_o way_n so_o as_o we_o may_v by_o our_o holy_a conversation_n win_v either_o these_o or_o stranger_n to_o god_n neither_o to_o strengthen_v the_o weak_a and_o help_v forward_o such_o as_o have_v be_v at_o a_o stagger_a and_o that_o which_o be_v more_o if_o we_o have_v do_v any_o of_o these_o yet_o we_o have_v do_v it_o more_o hover_o and_o cold_o whether_o with_o our_o family_n or_o other_o with_o who_o we_o have_v have_v to_o do_v that_o way_n default_n not_o in_o meekness_n love_n compassion_n bear_v as_o there_o have_v be_v cause_n with_o they_o or_o hearty_o seek_v to_o win_v they_o unto_o god_n first_o the_o cause_n hereof_o be_v no_o one_o but_o yet_o chief_o our_o evil_a heart_n which_o for_o all_o the_o taste_n of_o holy_a doctrine_n and_o light_n which_o we_o have_v of_o the_o life_n to_o come_v yet_o be_v cleanse_v and_o renew_v but_o in_o part_n be_v evermore_o in_o respect_n of_o our_o corruption_n prone_a to_o evil_n and_o unapt_a to_o goodness_n so_o that_o not_o only_o after_o good_a mean_n use_v they_o carry_v we_o to_o a_o forgetfulness_n of_o that_o good_a which_o
to_o our_o calling_n to_o the_o hinder_v of_o the_o same_o as_o be_v minister_n to_o attend_v to_o read_v or_o be_v private_a man_n to_o labour_v every_o man_n as_o it_o have_v behove_v he_o and_o thus_o much_o for_o the_o proof_n of_o the_o justness_n of_o our_o complaint_n and_o of_o the_o cause_n thereof_o chap._n 14._o of_o the_o second_o part_n of_o the_o covenant_n namely_o the_o remedy_n against_o the_o complaint_n mention_v in_o the_o former_a chapter_n now_o forasmuch_o as_o in_o the_o weigh_v of_o the_o truth_n of_o these_o thing_n we_o can_v not_o but_o be_v grieve_v hearty_o as_o who_o can_v behold_v so_o great_a depth_n of_o corruption_n and_o the_o fruit_n of_o the_o same_o so_o many_o way_n with_o deadly_a uncomfortablenesse_n threaten_v his_o confusion_n but_o must_v needs_o seek_v and_o use_v all_o possible_a mean_n speedy_o to_o pull_v himself_o out_o again_o we_o therefore_o immediate_o after_o the_o due_a consideration_n of_o our_o woeful_a condition_n turn_v ourselves_o to_o bethink_v we_o what_o remedy_n we_o may_v apply_v to_o this_o fall_n if_o thereby_o we_o may_v possible_o recover_v ourselves_o again_o and_o also_o make_v they_o help_v for_o hereafter_o that_o we_o may_v as_o well_o continue_v in_o a_o fruitful_a and_o cheerful_a course_n unto_o the_o end_n of_o our_o life_n as_o at_o all_o to_o return_v into_o the_o right_a way_n again_o first_o therefore_o remedy_n we_o think_v thus_o and_o take_v order_n as_o follow_v that_o such_o of_o we_o as_o do_v find_v our_o fall_n to_o be_v so_o great_a and_o our_o offence_n so_o dangerous_a that_o either_o for_o our_o too_o too_o great_a delight_n in_o they_o or_o long_o lie_v therein_o we_o can_v not_o by_o our_o usual_a prayer_n and_o humiliation_n or_o by_o help_n of_o any_o ordinary_a and_o daily_a practice_n of_o repentance_n by_o hear_v the_o word_n and_o prepare_v ourselves_o for_o the_o lord_n supper_n come_v to_o peace_n of_o conscience_n and_o obtain_v confidence_n and_o godly_a boldness_n with_o the_o lord_n such_o i_o say_v shall_v humble_v ourselves_o before_o the_o lord_n with_o fast_v and_o prayer_n without_o which_o mean_v such_o devil_n be_v hardly_o cast_v out_o especial_o because_o we_o have_v let_v go_v the_o hold_n of_o our_o faith_n and_o have_v suffer_v the_o same_o to_o fail_v in_o we_o which_o when_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v what_o can_v there_o be_v in_o our_o life_n but_o mere_a unsavourinesse_n to_o speak_v of_o the_o best_a our_o fast_n tend_v to_o this_o that_o we_o may_v more_o forcible_o pray_v for_o the_o recovery_n of_o our_o faith_n and_o clear_a behold_v of_o god_n love_a kindness_n restore_v to_o we_o again_o that_o in_o such_o manner_n we_o be_v abase_v in_o his_o presence_n as_o there_o be_v just_a cause_n that_o such_o shall_v be_v and_o believe_v again_o his_o old_a accustom_a mercy_n we_o may_v in_o some_o good_a measure_n be_v purge_v from_o our_o former_a unsavourinesse_n yea_o noisome_a uncleanness_n and_o so_o make_v fit_a to_o renew_v our_o covenant_n with_o the_o lord_n again_o concern_v more_o holy_a walk_n with_o he_o and_o if_o we_o shall_v find_v that_o our_o heart_n may_v be_v bring_v to_o unfeigned_a displeasure_n with_o ourselves_o for_o our_o former_a default_n without_o fast_v then_o we_o determine_v to_o turn_v unto_o the_o lord_n with_o all_o our_o heart_n in_o sincerity_n so_o as_o we_o may_v obtain_v comfort_n and_o release_v at_o his_o hand_n as_o if_o fast_v have_v be_v adjoin_v thereunto_o after_o this_o our_o covenant_n be_v to_o know_v our_o heart_n better_a how_o evil_a they_o be_v what_o falsehood_n fickleness_n lightness_n and_o such_o like_a naughtiness_n remedy_n and_o variety_n of_o corrupt_a affection_n we_o carry_v about_o we_o that_o thereby_o we_o may_v be_v enforce_v to_o take_v more_o pain_n to_o weaken_v they_o daily_o for_o we_o see_v that_o if_o we_o be_v not_o diligent_a to_o search_v they_o out_o all_o as_o by_o occasion_n we_o shall_v be_v move_v to_o do_v we_o shall_v both_o walk_v in_o continual_a unsettledness_n and_o in_o a_o uncomfortable_a estate_n because_o we_o can_v go_v about_o nothing_o but_o some_o one_o of_o these_o or_o other_o shall_v be_v espy_v to_o carry_v we_o some_o way_n amiss_o in_o the_o same_o and_o thus_o we_o purpose_v to_o note_v and_o find_v they_o out_o in_o we_o by_o a_o diligent_a view_n of_o and_o take_v heed_n unto_o our_o way_n that_o so_o we_o may_v be_v in_o daily_a combat_n with_o they_o a_o worthy_a work_n therefore_o and_o commendable_a we_o see_v it_o to_o take_v knowledge_n of_o they_o and_o not_o to_o be_v content_a to_o be_v blind_a in_o the_o behold_n of_o they_o because_o we_o be_v neither_o easy_o bring_v to_o confess_v and_o see_v they_o and_o yet_o that_o he_o which_o hide_v they_o shall_v not_o prosper_v that_o so_o we_o may_v behold_v more_o filth_n and_o venom_n in_o they_o than_o we_o will_v have_v think_v can_v have_v be_v in_o us._n and_o we_o agree_v that_o if_o we_o shall_v be_v unwilling_a to_o discover_v this_o pack_n that_o even_o this_o willingness_n to_o hide_v they_o be_v one_o of_o the_o most_o dangerous_a evil_n among_o the_o rest_n now_o further_o because_o the_o knowledge_n of_o our_o heart_n if_o we_o stay_v there_o i_o mean_v remedy_n of_o the_o manifold_a evil_a lust_n of_o they_o do_v make_v we_o the_o more_o heady_a and_o greedy_a to_o fulfil_v they_o when_o we_o know_v they_o by_o the_o law_n of_o god_n to_o be_v condemn_v in_o we_o we_o have_v further_o faithful_o determine_v to_o watch_v over_o they_o with_o all_o diligence_n that_o neither_o any_o of_o those_o which_o have_v already_o be_v mention_v neither_o any_o other_o as_o far_o as_o we_o may_v know_v they_o may_v lurk_v or_o have_v their_o abode_n within_o we_o with_o our_o like_n but_o that_o we_o may_v purge_v they_o out_o and_o not_o those_o only_o which_o be_v apparent_o gross_a but_o even_o such_o as_o be_v more_o secret_a be_v not_o yet_o come_v near_o their_o ripeness_n and_o therefore_o wheresoever_o we_o become_v or_o in_o whatsoever_o we_o have_v to_o do_v not_o to_o neglect_v this_o part_n of_o christian_a duty_n but_o especial_o there_o and_o then_o where_o and_o when_o we_o suspect_v or_o have_v cause_n to_o fear_v more_o danger_n thereby_o as_o in_o vehement_a and_o strong_a temptation_n and_o grievous_a and_o long_o go_v forward_o in_o the_o watch_n and_o observe_v of_o they_o which_o must_v the_o rather_o be_v do_v because_o as_o the_o heart_n be_v the_o fountain_n of_o life_n and_o from_o thence_o we_o have_v it_o that_o we_o live_v so_o from_o thence_o we_o must_v fetch_v the_o beginning_n of_o well_o live_v from_o a_o evil_a and_o unclean_a heart_n come_v no_o part_n of_o good_a life_n no_o more_o then_o good_a fruit_n from_o a_o evil_a tree_n but_o all_o the_o abomination_n of_o the_o life_n even_o the_o most_o odious_a and_o vile_a as_o adultery_n murder_n idolatry_n heresy_n etc._n etc._n they_o have_v their_o beginning_n there_o they_o be_v conceive_v and_o nourish_v there_o they_o have_v their_o proceed_n from_o thence_o and_o god_n be_v long_o and_o grievous_o dishonour_v there_o for_o the_o most_o part_n before_o man_n by_o the_o fruit_n of_o it_o can_v be_v or_o be_v offend_v so_o that_o as_o by_o the_o roman_n law_n it_o be_v straight_o enact_v that_o their_o spring_n shall_v be_v careful_o preserve_v from_o all_o filth_n which_o may_v attaint_v and_o poison_v they_o that_o their_o river_n and_o water_n conduit_n may_v be_v sweet_a and_o wholesome_a so_o it_o must_v necessary_o be_v that_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n be_v once_o renew_v and_o make_v clean_o it_o shall_v be_v keep_v and_o continue_v so_o that_o be_v a_o good_a treasury_n good_a thing_n may_v be_v bring_v out_o of_o it_o continual_o of_o all_o sort_n as_o occasion_n shall_v require_v for_o here_o we_o take_v it_o as_o grant_v that_o all_o which_o shall_v have_v their_o part_n in_o this_o covenant_n or_o have_v already_o desire_v to_o have_v must_v be_v renew_a in_o their_o mind_n and_o have_v their_o heart_n purge_v and_o make_v clean_o by_o faith_n in_o the_o son_n of_o god_n example_n of_o job_n david_n and_o peter_n it_o may_v appear_v these_o two_o objection_n of_o great_a weight_n doubtless_o i_o must_v first_o answer_v before_o i_o go_v further_o and_o first_o of_o the_o foremost_a though_o they_o i_o mean_v the_o godly_a be_v not_o void_a of_o the_o sin_n which_o i_o have_v speak_v of_o yet_o that_o hinder_v not_o the_o honour_n which_o god_n have_v set_v they_o in_o and_o give_v unto_o they_o cause_n for_o there_o be_v leave_v in_o the_o most_o holy_a a_o strife_n betwixt_o the_o spirit_n and_o the_o flesh_n and_o that_o for_o this_o purpose_n by_o the_o lord_n himself_o even_o in_o his_o elect_a as_o the_o apostle_n teach_v by_o his_o own_o example_n not_o that_o they_o shall_v perish_v but_o partly_o lest_o they_o shall_v look_v to_o triumph_v before_o the_o victory_n which_o sathan_n will_v most_v of_o all_o wish_n partly_o that_o the_o best_a man_n be_v privy_a to_o their_o own_o weakness_n and_o that_o throughout_o their_o life_n may_v not_o rest_v upon_o their_o own_o strength_n but_o always_o depend_v upon_o god_n yea_o and_o further_o also_o for_o this_o cause_n he_o do_v it_o that_o the_o more_o hard_o the_o combat_n be_v and_o their_o strife_n with_o sathan_n &_o sin_n the_o more_o vehement_a the_o more_o glorious_a may_v the_o victory_n appear_v and_o therefore_o as_o it_o be_v in_o war_n and_o battle_n fight_v among_o man_n we_o do_v not_o measure_v the_o victory_n by_o any_o thing_n do_v one_o either_o side_n while_o they_o be_v contend_v or_o skirmish_v for_o the_o uhemency_n of_o the_o one_o or_o the_o remissness_n of_o the_o other_o neither_o will_v we_o count_v he_o a_o coward_n who_o shall_v be_v grievous_o wound_v no_o although_o he_o sometime_o give_v back_o like_o one_o which_o be_v overcome_v so_o as_o he_o do_v afterward_o take_v heart_n and_o courage_n to_o himself_o again_o even_o so_o in_o this_o spiritual_a fight_n &_o conflict_n vanquish_v when_o we_o shall_v see_v the_o good_a christian_a to_o be_v over-matched_n as_o it_o be_v &_o for_o the_o time_n drive_v to_o hard_a distress_n by_o sustain_v the_o shame_n and_o reproach_n of_o some_o evil_a action_n commit_v or_o rank_n rebellion_n nourish_v which_o be_v no_o less_o then_o if_o a_o man_n shall_v in_o war_n loose_v some_o member_n of_o his_o body_n yet_o must_v we_o not_o think_v that_o the_o spirit_n have_v yield_v itself_o unto_o the_o flesh_n neither_o have_v be_v overcome_v of_o it_o though_o sore_o and_o grevious_o wound_v if_o it_o shall_v by_o the_o feel_n of_o the_o smart_n which_o it_o take_v by_o the_o sin_n commit_v gather_v again_o great_a heart_n of_o detestation_n against_o it_o and_o strength_n and_o courage_n by_o spiritual_a armour_n to_o repel_v satan_n poison_v dart_n for_o hereafter_o now_o of_o the_o example_n and_o first_o of_o job_n you_o will_v say_v example_n how_o can_v he_o cry_v out_o as_o he_o do_v in_o the_o three_o chapter_n against_o the_o day_n of_o his_o birth_n cry_v out_o i_o say_v yea_o howl_n and_o charge_n god_n but_o he_o must_v needs_o show_v himself_o to_o be_v overcome_v of_o the_o flesh_n there_o be_v no_o doubt_n i_o grant_v but_o that_o his_o adversary_n the_o devil_n do_v now_o make_v full_a reckon_n that_o he_o shall_v fall_v into_o very_o loathsome_a blasphemy_n and_o utter_a desperation_n and_o it_o can_v be_v deny_v but_o that_o he_o be_v carry_v very_o far_o out_o of_o the_o way_n but_o yet_o as_o he_o be_v not_o to_o be_v free_v from_o all_o fault_n so_o he_o be_v not_o to_o be_v further_o charge_v than_o he_o give_v just_a cause_n forasmuch_o as_o the_o lord_n himself_o do_v so_o determine_v the_o controversy_n in_o the_o end_n who_o sentence_n no_o man_n doubt_v but_o that_o it_o be_v most_o righteous_a that_o although_o he_o reprove_v he_o yet_o of_o his_o singular_a goodness_n he_o do_v not_o make_v his_o fault_n so_o heinous_a but_o charge_v his_o three_o friend_n as_o the_o chief_a provoker_n of_o he_o to_o that_o evil_n which_o he_o do_v and_o crown_v he_o as_o it_o be_v for_o that_o in_o so_o great_a a_o combat_n by_o his_o valiant_a wrestle_n he_o have_v prevail_v yet_o for_o our_o further_a edification_n let_v we_o see_v somewhat_o more_o particular_o into_o this_o action_n direct_v ourselves_o by_o that_o which_o the_o lord_n have_v say_v of_o he_o i_o say_v therefore_o that_o job_n sin_v many_o way_n but_o yet_o through_o humane_a frailty_n purpose_n for_o his_o intemperate_a speech_n proceed_v not_o from_o a_o settle_a and_o constant_a purpose_n of_o the_o mide_n but_o be_v wring_v from_o the_o exceed_a greatness_n of_o his_o grief_n and_o pain_n which_o hinder_v for_o the_o time_n all_o sense_n and_o light_n of_o faith_n &_o judgement_n in_o he_o for_o in_o that_o he_o think_v he_o can_v by_o no_o other_o mean_n be_v deliver_v from_o those_o so_o great_a evil_n which_o he_o suffer_v but_o by_o death_n it_o show_v that_o he_o do_v not_o thorough_o nor_o sufficient_o weigh_v the_o power_n and_o might_n of_o god_n in_o that_o he_o wish_v either_o that_o he_o have_v never_o be_v bear_v or_o together_o with_o his_o birth_n to_o have_v die_v it_o must_v needs_o be_v grant_v that_o it_o be_v a_o speech_n of_o a_o man_n little_a consider_v what_o he_o say_v but_o which_o have_v forget_v what_o great_a mercy_n he_o have_v receive_v yea_o what_o he_o himself_o have_v sometime_o utter_v i_o if_o we_o have_v receive_v prosperity_n from_o the_o lord_n why_o shall_v we_o not_o suffer_v adversity_n in_o that_o he_o earnest_o wish_a deliverance_n from_o his_o suffering_n but_o ask_v it_o not_o of_o god_n it_o bewray_v a_o mind_n in_o he_o sore_o trouble_v and_o last_o in_o that_o he_o have_v regard_v only_o to_o his_o own_o quiet_a and_o ease_n and_o think_v at_o that_o time_n
do_v not_o see_v what_o and_o how_o great_a a_o benefit_n and_o privilege_n it_o be_v to_o all_o that_o have_v fall_v into_o any_o grievous_a crime_n at_o least_o as_o they_o count_v it_o and_o so_o have_v their_o faith_n weaken_v and_o their_o comfort_n appall_v for_o to_o a_o man_n in_o that_o case_n nothing_o be_v more_o comfortable_a as_o by_o the_o word_n of_o elihu_n in_o the_o book_n of_o job_n 23._o most_o lively_o appear_v say_v when_o a_o man_n shall_v be_v so_o wrought_v upon_o by_o the_o word_n of_o god_n that_o for_o fear_n and_o inward_a anguish_n he_o turn_v away_o from_o his_o every_o godly_a preacher_n have_v experience_n of_o the_o same_o both_o how_o many_o heavy_a heart_a christian_n be_v raise_v out_o of_o their_o fall_n with_o much_o comfort_n and_o how_o intolerable_a a_o estate_n it_o be_v for_o they_o to_o bear_v if_o they_o have_v not_o good_a assurance_n from_o god_n about_o that_o matter_n but_o this_o which_o i_o say_v be_v wise_o and_o wary_o to_o be_v hear_v &_o receive_v i_o confess_v that_o be_v to_o say_v it_o that_o even_o as_o it_o be_v with_o all_o thankfulness_n to_o be_v hearken_v unto_o of_o the_o afflict_a in_o mind_n and_o such_o as_o mourn_v in_o zion_n so_o likewise_o that_o in_o no_o wise_a it_o be_v use_v as_o a_o occasion_n to_o embolden_v any_o to_o sin_n or_o to_o gather_v hardness_n of_o heart_n in_o they_o that_o either_o they_o dare_v go_v forward_o more_o ready_o to_o that_o sin_n which_o they_o delight_v in_o because_o they_o hear_v there_o be_v hope_n of_o forgiveness_n to_o such_o as_o have_v run_v hearty_a manner_n than_o do_v they_o encourage_v one_o another_o to_o look_v for_o mercy_n and_o forgiveness_n say_v there_o be_v hope_n and_o so_o it_o ought_v to_o be_v with_o all_o god_n child_n that_o when_o they_o have_v be_v supplant_v by_o the_o devil_n for_o all_o their_o care_n and_o watchfulness_n then_o ought_v they_o to_o embrace_v this_o sweet_a remedy_n and_o fly_v unto_o it_o as_o to_o a_o anchor_n that_o god_n will_v be_v entreat_v of_o they_o and_o so_o with_o more_o thankfulness_n and_o humbleness_n to_o walk_v forward_o if_o any_o therefore_o abuse_v this_o liberty_n to_o great_a gain_n in_o both_o then_o in_o any_o other_o condition_n or_o course_n can_v be_v find_v and_o enjoy_v yea_o this_o make_v the_o injoyer_n of_o it_o happy_a here_o and_o certain_a that_o afterward_o they_o shall_v be_v happy_a for_o ever_o and_o though_o sathan_n do_v much_o quail_v this_o by_o occasion_n of_o trouble_n and_o our_o frailty_n yet_o it_o be_v certain_a that_o it_o shall_v be_v recover_v again_o this_o in_o few_o word_n be_v that_o which_o i_o wish_v the_o true_a christian_a reader_n to_o meditate_v on_o and_o consider_v which_o all_o god_n people_n have_v so_o
