of_o the_o law_n as_o of_o the_o gospel_n be_v there_o any_o contrariety_n or_o repugnancy_n in_o he_o without_o doubt_v no_o for_o he_o be_v unchangeable_a why_o then_o find_v s._n paul_n such_o a_o contrariety_n between_o the_o law_n and_o the_o gospel_n forsooth_o it_o be_v in_o respect_n of_o our_o justification_n and_o even_o so_o be_v it_o between_o faith_n &_o work_n and_o the_o contrariety_n be_v this_o because_o work_n be_v make_v merit_n and_o that_o which_o be_v more_o we_o can_v do_v no_o good_a work_n but_o by_o faith_n as_o we_o have_v already_o say_v and_o hereafter_o shall_v be_v more_o large_o handle_v for_o the_o cause_n and_o the_o effect_n be_v not_o contrary_n but_o when_o we_o will_v establish_v any_o merit_n in_o our_o work_n that_o be_v to_o say_v when_o as_o we_o will_v go_v about_o to_o make_v they_o available_a to_o obtain_v favour_n at_o god_n hand_n &_o to_o satisfy_v for_o our_o sin_n to_o be_v short_a when_o as_o we_o will_v bring_v they_o in_o to_o serve_v we_o for_o our_o salvation_n this_o be_v utter_o to_o overthrow_v faith_n &_o by_o this_o mean_n make_v it_o of_o no_o worth_n thus_o than_o we_o see_v that_o it_o be_v not_o without_o cause_n why_o saint_n paul_n conclude_v thus_o that_o see_v we_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n then_o be_v work_n of_o no_o value_n but_o must_v be_v quite_o and_o clean_o shut_v out_o of_o the_o door_n for_o any_o opinion_n that_o we_o ought_v to_o attribute_v unto_o merit_n or_o virtue_n whereby_o to_o please_v god_n withal_o now_o we_o be_v here_o eftsoon_o to_o note_v that_o god_n of_o his_o mere_a liberality_n justifi_v we_o and_o search_v after_o our_o misery_n to_o sustain_v they_o that_o he_o may_v be_v know_v to_o be_v only_o righteous_a &_o the_o commendation_n of_o our_o salvation_n to_o be_v absolute_o give_v unto_o he_o according_o as_o saint_n paul_n right_a well_o note_v both_o in_o
this_o condition_n that_o he_o take_v upon_o he_o to_o pay_v our_o debt_n full_o and_o whole_o and_o therefore_o whosoever_o will_v now_o take_v upon_o he_o to_o pay_v god_n usurp_v the_o office_n of_o jesus_n christ_n which_o be_v a_o most_o abominable_a abuse_n and_o yet_o the_o papist_n build_v their_o salvation_n hereon_o but_o for_o all_o this_o they_o cavil_v and_o say_v that_o although_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n have_v obtain_v pardon_n as_o well_o for_o the_o sin_n as_o for_o the_o punishment_n thereof_o yet_o notwithstanding_o that_o this_o be_v reserve_v although_o they_o manifest_o gainsay_v themselves_o for_o on_o the_o other_o side_n they_o say_v that_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n have_v not_o merit_v for_o we_o but_o be_v the_o occasion_n of_o merit_n now_o as_o that_o when_o jesus_n christ_n go_v before_o he_o give_v we_o the_o occasion_n of_o merit_n &_o this_o they_o call_v the_o first_o merit_n so_o that_o they_o give_v unto_o he_o some_o little_a gobet_n or_o small_a portion_n and_o to_o ourselves_o the_o chief_a now_o if_o it_o be_v so_o that_o jesus_n christ_n have_v only_o merit_v the_o occasion_n of_o merit_n that_o be_v to_o say_v that_o we_o must_v by_o he_o come_v to_o heaven_n it_o must_v needs_o follow_v that_o we_o shall_v be_v always_o bind_v unto_o god_n as_o well_o for_o the_o punishment_n as_o for_o the_o sin_n and_o this_o be_v a_o enormous_a abomination_n when_o as_o the_o papist_n will_v presume_v thus_o to_o discharge_v themselves_o before_o god_n with_o their_o satisfaction_n and_o beside_o as_o one_o mischief_n draw_v on_o another_o even_o so_o thrust_v they_o themselves_o into_o a_o most_o wearisome_a labyrinth_n for_o they_o know_v well_o enough_o that_o if_o we_o strain_v ourselves_o to_o do_v a_o hundred_o time_n more_o than_o we_o be_v able_a yet_o can_v we_o in_o no_o wise_a content_n &_o satisfy_v god_n for_o our_o sin_n and_o why_o so_o because_o we_o come_v so_o short_a in_o do_v that_o we_o shall_v as_o be_v most_o fearful_a and_o david_n say_v what_o man_n be_v he_o that_o know_v his_o sin_n 13.12_o psal_n 13.12_o and_o therefore_o although_o we_o shall_v take_v never_o so_o much_o pain_n to_o make_v satisfaction_n yet_o shall_v the_o papist_n be_v enforce_v to_o say_v that_o we_o be_v never_o able_a to_o come_v to_o the_o end_n of_o they_o yet_o be_v there_o also_o a_o three_o error_n among_o they_o to_o wit_n their_o indulgence_n &_o pardon_n of_o full_a remission_n for_o the_o pardon_v of_o their_o sin_n that_o will_v buy_v they_o and_o yet_o they_o think_v it_o not_o and_o tremble_v alas_o how_o shall_v we_o most_o miserable_a mortal_a creature_n do_v in_o this_o case_n and_o therefore_o when_o we_o speak_v of_o this_o certainty_n of_o faith_n the_o question_n be_v not_o of_o our_o entrance_n into_o the_o church_n of_o god_n only_o but_o our_o hope_n must_v be_v invincible_a to_o fight_v against_o all_o the_o temptation_n of_o satan_n but_o especial_o when_o we_o must_v come_v to_o answer_v before_o god_n we_o must_v then_o stand_v firm_a and_o sure_a against_o all_o the_o fear_n wherewith_o we_o may_v be_v stir_v &_o drive_v unto_o and_o this_o be_v no_o speculative_a doctrine_n but_o a_o doctrine_n of_o practice_n true_a it_o be_v that_o the_o holy_a scripture_n must_v instruct_v we_o but_o no_o long_o then_o until_o such_o time_n as_o righteousness_n consist_v only_o of_o say_v for_o our_o faith_n as_o we_o have_v already_o say_v will_v always_o be_v weak_a so_o long_o as_o we_o live_v here_o and_o therefore_o how_o be_v it_o possible_a that_o we_o shall_v be_v full_o righteous_a before_o god_n for_o the_o effect_n can_v be_v above_o the_o cause_n for_o if_o we_o have_v but_o half_a a_o sun_n we_o shall_v not_o have_v so_o much_o light_n as_o we_o have_v and_o therefore_o we_o must_v have_v a_o whole_a sun_n that_o the_o beam_n thereof_o may_v spread_v itself_o all_o the_o world_n over_o wherefore_o when_o faith_n be_v thus_o weak_a in_o we_o it_o shall_v seem_v that_o we_o be_v but_o partly_o acceptable_a unto_o god_n and_o so_o contrariwise_o that_o he_o like_v we_o not_o howbeit_o we_o be_v here_o to_o note_v believe_v in_o his_o only_a son_n now_o jesus_n in_o this_o place_n call_v faith_n a_o work_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v have_v say_v you_o see_v whereat_o you_o must_v aim_v and_o apply_v your_o whole_a study_n for_o the_o question_n be_v not_o that_o the_o work_n shall_v merit_v and_o beside_o if_o we_o do_v confess_v that_o faith_n be_v a_o work_n which_o indeed_o it_o be_v not_o yet_o justifi_v amongst_o the_o rest_n where_o it_o be_v say_v my_o son_n god_n will_v provide_v a_o sacrifice_n for_o this_o be_v as_o much_o as_o if_o the_o holy_a ghost_n shall_v exhort_v we_o not_o to_o be_v overwise_a as_o we_o say_v in_o our_o own_o conceit_n and_o to_o be_v over-provident_a to_o dispute_v and_o say_v which_o way_n i_o pray_v you_o be_v it_o possible_a that_o this_o matter_n shall_v this_o come_v to_o pass_v but_o let_v we_o be_v content_v that_o since_o god_n have_v speak_v the_o word_n that_o he_o know_v well_o enough_o how_o to_o compass_v it_o and_o then_o let_v it_o go_v as_o it_o will_v for_o this_o be_v most_o sure_a that_o all_o shall_v go_v well_o so_o long_o as_o he_o be_v our_o guide_n and_o in_o the_o mean_a while_n our_o wisdom_n and_o reason_n must_v herein_o give_v place_n and_o we_o must_v be_v wilful_o blind_a to_o wite_v we_o must_v not_o be_v so_o sharp_a sight_v as_o these_o jolly_a wise_a worling_n be_v which_o will_v know_v all_o and_o judge_v all_o even_o to_o the_o control_a of_o whatsoever_o god_n shall_v do_v neither_o let_v we_o take_v from_o he_o that_o which_o be_v his_o but_o let_v it_o suffice_v we_o that_o we_o discharge_v ourselves_o of_o our_o duty_n thus_o we_o see_v that_o we_o can_v have_v no_o faith_n except_o we_o set_v forth_o the_o providence_n of_o god_n and_o the_o mean_a to_o advance_v and_o set_v it_o forth_o be_v to_o put_v over_o unto_o he_o all_o whatsoever_o that_o breed_v nothing_o else_o but_o doubt_n and_o snare_v we_o in_o many_o perplexity_n and_o to_o be_v short_a that_o we_o may_v say_v i_o beseech_v thou_o o_o lord_n to_o guide_v i_o whither_o it_o shall_v please_v thou_o for_o as_o for_o i_o i_o be_o but_o a_o poor_a blind_a wretch_n neither_o be_v it_o fit_a for_o i_o to_o look_v into_o this_o for_o that_o will_v be_v as_o it_o be_v a_o bottomless_a depth_n to_o cast_v myself_o down_o headlong_o into_o when_o as_o i_o shall_v take_v in_o hand_n to_o direct_v myself_o and_o to_o be_v my_o own_o guide_n here_o we_o see_v what_o the_o true_a wisdom_n be_v which_o all_o the_o child_n of_o god_n ought_v to_o have_v that_o be_v not_o to_o be_v overwise_a but_o to_o be_v content_v with_o their_o measure_n and_o when_o they_o see_v the_o way_n that_o be_v point_v out_o for_o they_o to_o walk_v therein_o and_o if_o they_o can_v come_v to_o the_o end_n thereof_o at_o the_o first_o yet_o let_v they_o not_o cease_v to_o go_v on_o and_o although_o they_o see_v as_o it_o be_v mountain_n to_o stay_v they_o and_o the_o sea_n to_o swallow_v they_o up_o in_o yet_o yet_o let_v they_o overcome_v all_o this_o and_o know_v that_o it_o be_v not_o write_v in_o vain_a by_o the_o psalmist_n where_o it_o be_v say_v that_o god_n have_v command_v his_o angel_n to_o guide_v and_o direct_v we_o when_o as_o we_o shall_v walk_v in_o our_o way_n 91.11.12_o psal_n 91.11.12_o that_o be_v to_o say_v that_o we_o decline_v not_o from_o that_o which_o he_o have_v teach_v us._n but_o let_v we_o know_v that_o he_o will_v always_o find_v out_o issue_n for_o those_o thing_n that_o shall_v grieve_v &_o trouble_v we_o when_o as_o in_o our_o judgement_n we_o shall_v see_v nothing_o else_o but_o confusion_n and_o shame_n of_o face_n moreover_o here_o may_v notwithstanding_o be_v find_v some_o infirmity_n in_o abraham_n amid_o all_o his_o so_o excellent_a virtue_n because_o it_o seem_v that_o he_o dissemble_v in_o say_v that_o he_o and_o his_o son_n will_v come_v back_o again_o after_o they_o have_v worship_v and_o sacrifice_v in_o the_o mountain_n for_o he_o do_v assure_v himself_o that_o his_o son_n isaak_n must_v be_v slay_v now_o it_o be_v not_o lawful_a for_o we_o in_o any_o wise_a to_o lie_v and_o therefore_o it_o seem_v that_o abraham_n in_o this_o point_n do_v amiss_o wherefore_o some_o man_n do_v judge_v that_o he_o speak_v it_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o prophecy_n but_o if_o it_o shall_v be_v so_o than_o his_o faith_n be_v nothing_o because_o he_o must_v needs_o then_o be_v ignorant_a of_o that_o which_o shall_v
